Wow, 3 years, that is very impressive, keep up the good work. I started reading your story about a year ago. Most of the fan stuff I have read is pretty weak but yours struck me as someone who had a good idea what you were doing.

I think I like Myrie the best. She seems like a no nonsense kind of character. She is becoming more likable as the story develops. It was like you wanted the reader to see her gritty side so that you could then make her more quirky adorable. There wasn’t any point in particular that she became my favorite, it just slowly happened as I got to know her better.

I am sad to say i think the character I like the least is Sylfia. She just seems a bit over the top when it comes to being drunk all the time. Sorry, you asked :p

As for who I would like to see more of: would be the 2 highborn characters. The mesmer Gryphon is a likable fellow kind of like a mentor and you have developed him pretty well; but the one elementalist Yalora you have only mentioned a couple of times. This makes me think you are holding back on that one for a reason. Are there secret things happening behind the scenes with her that will soon be coming to light?

What I don’t understand is-

- The Original Poster got his stuff back, now feels vindicated and is happy he got his point across so it doesn’t happen to others in the future
- The Arena Net team has publicly apologized

- And STILL some of you are trying to stir up a hornets nest

Not true. Vistas and JPs require going UP. You can only go down with Gliding. Since there are no Updrafts or Ley-lines in central Tyria(and Arenanet does not have to add them), Gliding would not help you much in going UP. Perhaps it could save you from a bad jump and smashing your face on the ground, or perhaps it could get you back to a midway spot rather than restarting completely, but Gliding is by no means getting you UP there.

Besides, Mesmer portals already exist as checkpoints. Moreover, Mesmer portals can already “destroy the purpose of vistas and jumping puzzles” completely.

Turtle: Respectfully, this is just NOT true. Granted many JP’ do require you to go up however, MANY have you go down too. Someone posted earlier a list of examples of JP’s that actually require you to go down A LOT.

The one that I can think of is Griffonrook Run(the one you are supposed to carry the bomb but you don’t have to, to complete). In fact this one requires you to jump down for nearly the entire puzzle. I have not looked at the distance but I think you could glide from the first jump all the way to the bottom of the hill at the end.

That’s not actual DR as most people know it. The game does cap how much event XP you can earn in a given time, and it does that across zones. If you were getting reduced rewards at Vinewrath, and then went to join Frozen Maw as it was starting up right away, you’d continue to get reduced rewards for events there as well until you get back within what they think is the right amount of events per minute/events per ten minutes.

So it’s “just” reduced XP, rather than your loot being cut off as it would be with the DR from lingering in one spot. Of course, reduced XP is still bad for people going after Masteries..

I’ve had the game reduce XP when I’ve played in one area for a period of time but it went away when I changed maps. Not saying this is good design or anything like that. Only that it was map specific.

In my experience, changing maps does NOT necessarily remove DR.

Example
I was farming an area and hit DR. I then left the map, did a world boss event then went to a different map and did another boss and then logged off for the night. Next day I logged back on, went to LA for a half hour doing character maintenance then went back to my farming area from yesterday. DR was still in effect.

So that was changing 3 maps, doing two other events, logging out for the day and a half hour downtime in LA.

OMG my immersion is completely overwhelmed.

I am not sure if I like the idea of just buying the postcards and stamps on the TP. What if you had to actually travel to a location to obtain the postcard from a local vendor? That would encourage more PvE map travel and make it a collection item. If you still wanted to monetize it you could buy the stamps from the TP as another collection and you have a Title available too – Stamp Collector.

I would be quite surprised that ANet would now be segregating rewards to the haves and have nots outside the game.

When I go to World boss events, somebody keeps making red hearts come floating off me. What is that all about?

• Aren’t these all pretty much the same? A finite resource used to cast skills, which develops/depletes over time and depletes/develops with use.
• I guess what I am trying to wrap my head around is, do they have to all be different? Aren’t they all just altered clones of the Energy Bar of Old GW1?
• Now I do understand that each one has some variations, (i.e. Adrenaline/ Life Force, build when you attack and Initiative/Energy depletes when you attack).
• But aren’t they all just slightly different methods of adding additional ways of restricting casting?

Didn’t a whole Energy Management system exist in the game pre-launch and was scrapped?

The release of guildhalls is pure specualtion. It was one of the most major outcomes of the CDI and that is now a while ago. So people only asume that it will likely be released together with HoT.

Looking at GW1, there where guildhalls released with the different campaigns, but access was not restricted to those with the campaigns, just membership of the guild.

Guilds can claim and grow a guild hall in the Heart of Maguuma
Provides a home where players can gather, organize for events and guild missions, and build and progress both the guild and the guild hall
Smaller guilds will be treated “respectfully”⁷

I would really be surprised if Anet would comment on this directly.
Imagine if they said that the rings would soon become salvageable/sellable, the Farmers would flood to the Fractals to stockpile Ascended rings to chop or unload once they are made available. This would be actually advertising a farm before hand. Just doesn’t seem to me to be in Anet’s best interest.

I don’t know what confuses me more:

• The OP was playing for less then 2 months and was considering paying ~$240 GP for a dye

Since this it the first forum post for you, what did you do the last three times you came back?

The game hasn’t changed that much in permanent content with the exception of the Maguuma Wastes, so what ever you did the past three times, you have about the same options.

Agalloch: I am trying to understand why you would need to see your character name.

Is there some reason why this feature would be needed? Outside of Deleting a character(ANet spells out your name for you there) there is no time that I can recall when the game requires you to enter your name. On the off chance that for some reason you would need to see your name just hit (H) and click on Story Journal to see your own name.

IMO, two mouse clicks to see your name, as opposed to it continuously adding to the screen clutter all the time, is a much better solution.

ANet has proven time and time again that they do not want to be like all other MMO.

Well since the medium crafting materials are sooo hard to replenish as quick as my 80s use them, I would suggest leveling your alts as slow as possible.

I have been level 2 since my birth 4 months ago. After my creation I was banished to the Bank in Hoelbrak and have been forbidden to leave there ever since. Oh I have been given things from my high-adventure sisters over the last few months but I don’t get any feeling of personal satisfaction, I just feel so used, obscure and neglected.

Ima slowly meanders away, hands dejectedly thrust in her pockets, each lovingly caressing multiple stacks of Ectoplasm. Nodding her head slowly, one side of her mouth barely askew revealing a quirky little smile, she shuffles off unnoticed.

It is a RNG drop.

If the sample size is big enough, one person will get one on their first kill and one will get one right before it closes 2 weeks from now.

If you are trying to gauge how long you have to farm in hopes of getting a drop, I think you are setting yourself up for a great disappointment.

I don’t understand how someone can play a game since day 1 and Three Years later even ask this question.

I bought a car three years ago:

• now it comes in green, I want a new paint job for free
• tinted windows are now available, I want them for free too
• they now have a stereo with more power and an MP3 player available, you guess it, free me baby

When you bought the game 3 years ago you paid for what the game offered THREE YEARS AGO.

I guess I get to be the first Naysayer.

The potential for abuse seems quite high for this request, even with a cooldown.

Imagine the massive spamming at the wait before a mass populous Boss Event i.e. Shatterer.

Having to constantly hear a Zerg of people spamming their shouted battle cries would be enough to force Shatterer to never land.

As someone who has terrible RNG luck my advise:

Buying keys for the RNG chance to get what you want is a path better left untraveled.

Do your personal story, do map completion and/or hope for a free Mob key drop instead purchasing keys, if you want to open up your chests. Go for the sure direct Kit purchase if you really want it.

I have not been on these forums for very long so I am not sure why people are not commenting on the Forsaken Soul story.

I read the entire thing from the first chapter to the epilogue and I can honestly say I found the story to be simply wonderful. For an amateur writer you are very polished. I have read a bunch of fanfic stuff in the past and it usually comes off lacking. However, this story from the first chapter grabbed me by the hand and pulled me straight into the jungle with the main character. The symbolism is colorful and perfectly descriptive. Your wordplay is certainly beyond reproach and your fluent use of diction is astounding. Punctuation was the one thing that could use a little bit of work but it was not that bad. A proofreader might help you out there.

The ending was quite the surprise, though it left me wanting more. I wonder, is that really the end? As a storyteller you are fabulous and I thank you for allowing me to experience your work.

Could someone please explain why:
If I have a stackable item in my inventory (lets say 1 Giant Wintersday gift) and I want to drag and drop it on a partial stack of Giant Wintersday gifts already in my Personal bank(currently 12 gifts), the gift is added to the partial stack at 1 + 12, no problem.

Now if I have the same scenario but this time I try to drop the 1 gift from my inventory into the Guild Bank of 12, it gives me a red box and does not allow it.

So I have to pull the 12 from the guild bank into an empty slot my personal inventory then drag and drop either the 1 or the 12 to the other stack and THEN move it back to the Guild Bank (it won’t let me drag and drop on the 1 gift I already have in the Personal Bank and it wont let me combine the stack within the Guild Bank).

Now my question is what am I missing?
Does this bother anyone else?
Is there a setting or something to change this?
Why is it ok in one bank but not ok in another?
