Diff between ascended and legendary armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

For all intents and purposes, legendary armor is useless [it has the same stats as ascended, which are much easier to get or craft].

It all comes from the satisfaction of having it and the uniqueness of them and changing stats on the fly. [although i’m still waiting for an actually good Longbow]

Is there a finite amount of magic in Tyria? Is it just recycled in and out of Elder Dragons? Or do they use some and then capture and store new magic that is created over time? If magic is not finite, then killing all the Elder Dragons would be an issue, eventually. Unless, of course, one or more Gods could be persuaded to take the Elder Dragons’ role of keeping magic in check.

If Balthazar was full of magic from perished Elder Dragons, would said magic be, once again, released upon his death? Can magic be destroyed by killing its vessel?

I imagine the implication with Aurene is that she’ll replace one of the Elder Dragons.

And no, killing the vessel doesn’t destroy the magic, as shown by Mordremoth having Zhaitan’s death magic and infusing his own creatures with it. We can assume that the other Dragons now have both Death and Plant magic.

Ephemiel.5694

Ok if we kill another dragon the magic gets released and rip tyria. But balth will absorb said magic so why is it bad?

You know, it isn’t really clear.

In the fight where you are trying to stop Balthazar from sucking primordus dry, Taimi indicates that what Balthazar is doing would kill Primordus, which is exactly what we do not want at this point. And in the end we basically stop Balthazar from taking the last little bit necessary to kill Primordus, and Primordus slithers off and back to sleep.

And here, is where it isn’t clear what the heck our character is doing.

The reason we don’t want Primordus to die, is that the resulting release of magic would destroy the world, but Balthazar absorbed the magic, preventing said cataclysmic release. And since that was exactly what Balthazar planned from the beginning, we can assume that would have happened just the same if we hadn’t prevented Primordus’ death. So we basically just saved an elder dragon, for absolutely no reason.

And finally, while Balthazar certainly isn’t a good guy, he’s not actively trying to destroy us or the world so far as we know, he just doesn’t give a crap about mortal life. For all we know, we could just stay out of his way, let him kill all the dragons, and nothing bad would happen, or at the very least the world would survive him, while it won’t survive the dragons. Our character is acting based on giant unfounded assumptions about Balthazars motivations.

Furthermore, even if Balthazars intentions are to destroy the world, a small group of largely unremarkable shmucks have killed and/or imprisoned three different Gods before him. Killing just two of the dragons took the largest and most advanced military alliance in the history of the world, and was still only accomplished at a massive cost of lives.

Even with the power of several dragons absorbed, Balthazar would be significantly easier to deal with than the Dragons themselves. Let him kill/absorb the dragons then we can ship him off to be Dhuums roommate in the underworld if we need to.

……Balthazar is a GOD. Do you really think it would be easier to handle him WITH every Elder Dragon’s powers than just trying to handle the Dragons themselves?

The Elder Dragons have been pushed back before, but the huge point of the Personal Story is learning that we have absolutely no idea how it was done.

People ask stuff that’s easily explained [and in some cases, explained constantly] in-game. Of course we didn’t allow a kittenED OFF —-—>GOD<——- to continue fueling himself with the Dragons’ power, we can barely handle 1 Dragon, let alone the God of War infused with draconic energies from at least 2 Dragons [Primordus and Jormag].

Hopefully this means he’ll try to do a preemptive strike against the specific race that invaded his mind and almost killed him: The Asura.

It was implied that the Pale Tree was actually one of Mordremoth’s Blighted Trees that was purified [i’ll assume by Ventari’s Tablet]. This means that wherever Malyck is from, it has to be a place with very high magical power since, so far, a purified Pale Tree is the only way a Sylvari is born.

The bigger question would be this: Why is he not affected by the dream? Aren’t all Sylvari involved with the Dream? Maybe Malyck’s Pale Tree also has some sort of Avatar who realized that their connection to the Dream is one of the reasons why Mordremoth could control them so he/she severed it.

Although, more than likely, Anet simply forgot that had mentioned Malyck having come from a different Pale Tree.

The game became downright worthless; a complete waste of time.

That being said, a family member for whom I bought the game already got bored and I’m already on the way back to my favourite title from Blizzard.

To everyone:

beware of titles with the NCSoft logo (just as with GW2) on them, or anyhow associated with. Their business practices ruin every single one of their games. It’s shoddy business with only money in mind. Lineage 2 is a perfect example.

I thought Anet broke off from NCSoft and now work on the game independently. It seems some NCSoft tendencies remained in Anet though.

Legendary precursor journey is a joke....[Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ephemiel.5694

Ephemiel.5694

In the end the thought process seems obvious to me. The reason for the expense is less about current trends on TP, but more about the future of Legendaries. They want future legendary weapons to have both time investment and gold cost. Those future ones (like Nevermore) cannot be traded and don’t drop from anything so the cost is something baked into the collection. In the end, they wanted/needed the old legendary collections to use the same formula as the new ones so it made sense.

I’m sure you’ve realized that all the collections follow the same basic roadmap. This roadmap needed to be consistent between old and new legendaries, so what we got makes perfect sense. They did an ok job matching the price fairly well with the TP, but honestly I think that was purely a secondary concern.

What is the point of making the new PRECURSOR collections cost THOUSANDS of gold to craft when they aren’t tradeable and are EXOTICS!?

I can give multiple reasons:
1) It takes money out of the economy for a luxary item.
2) It makes the item more exclusive and thus more desirable by much of the player base.
3) It prevents the item from being “devalued” by simply being a item made so that it can be sold and made money on (which is something the community has begged for over the last 3 years).
4) In the end it is the Legendary that is being sought after, the “exotic” level means very little at that point because almost nobody would make it and then stop without making the legendary since you can’t sell the precursor.
5) Even if somebody didn’t go all the way to Legendary at that point, it is still just about the skin, not stats since that person would easily have enough money to have aquired at least Ascended weapons by then.

In the end, it is either worth it to you or not in order to get the rare Legendary skin. If you only care about trading it then it isn’t worth it, or if you are only interested in the stats, it isn’t worth it either. This is all talking about the reasons for the new system for new Legendaries of course. The reason why the old ones are like that I’ve already answered in my previous post. Simply put, the old ones had to follow the same format, the only difference is that you can sometimes go the cheaper route by buying them from the TP (however that may change as the market changes slowly to adapt to new collection system).

No offence, but you should apply your forum signature to yourself since you don’t seem to understand why people are so up in arms about this.

Eir's Story [Spoilers]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ephemiel.5694

Ephemiel.5694

Ok, so after replaying the story mode on another character, I paid more attention to this scene.

First, the fact still remains that she most likely got wounded after the crash. You can argue about our reality vs the games, but the game has its own reality as well. And since we can die from fall damage, so can she be hurt or killed by it too.

More on her injuries, we can assume there is some internal damage from before, but its kinda hard to show that from the outside other than bruising. But we do see she has a black eye and blood on her face. Also, with the game’s rating, there is only so much they can show.

Next up, being starved and dehydrated for DAYS. We don’t know the exact number since the crash and finding her, so we know it has to be 2+. Attribute to that they were forced to march as well, with injuries, and hungry.

Finally, count the newest injury from Faolin stabbing her. We’ve seen her take a hit before, and pretty much shrug it off or recover pretty fast. Here, she seems to just struggle to pull out the thorn. Heck, I think the most unbelievable part was her perfect aim at this point hitting Faolin.

Now, the creature approaches behind her, and she nods to Brahm, knowing. Now, what does she know? She is going to die? Or understanding the creature is behind her? Well, Brahm shouts it, the creatures falls behind, the screen shakes, so it wasn’t quiet, so it leads me to she was starting to accept her fate that she may not come out of this alive (note, NOT giving up).

Now, she turns and faces the beast, and its the look of determination. In other words, YES she is ready to fight despite her condition, or at least go down fighting.

And then she gets stabbed with the tail. Maybe if she was at her peak condition, it may have grazed her and been a moderate wound. But anet was clearly showing she wasn’t anywhere near peak condition, and in pretty bad condition. She was most likely expecting a front attack with the head or claws, not the tail.

Now, as for everyone pointing out “but she’s an action hero! She did this and this in the book!”, let me ask you this: What makes you think she DIDN’T do that already to stop being captured, or to help Pact members flee as they were surrounded? I am gonna assume she gave it her all to take down the Mordrem that captured her, because chances are at the time, she probably thought they just wanted to kill her. So she already went all out before hand and was STILL taken down eventually.

To sum up:
Fighting turn sylvarie on the ship, surviving a crash, fighting for her life against the mordrem, starved and dehydrated for days while being forced to march, puncture wound from Faolin. I’m sorry, her being able to fight that beast and survive would’ve been really cheap and basically saying “yes, none of the main NPCs will die.”

If something like this doesn’t kill one, then what would? A drago- oh….

You’re adding real logic to an MMO. By that logic, if an Elementalist hits me with any fire spell, i’m screwed.

If you recall, their entire fleet was shot down, including the cannons before they knew what was happening. You know that airship in Verdant Brink with the glowing aura coming out of a ‘core’? That’s the main airship of the fleet. Mordremoth took them out before they could fire the cannons. Meaning we lost our highest tech stuff in this fiasco.

And yet we STILL killed Mordremoth, who is supposed to be far stronger than Zhaitan, much more easily. In fact, we, almost literally, beat him with nothing but swords.

In his mind. He had the most unstoppable body, but his mind was his weakness. If we had a battle against his body we never would have won.

Uhh no, we fought both. WE, as in us the PC, fought in his mind. A lot of the others fought his physical body and actually managed to hold him at bay while we fought in his mind at the Dream.

And may i remind you that the last time someone fought an Elder Dragon head on like that, it was Destiny’s Edge and ONLY thanks to Snaff going into Krakaltorrik’s mind and almost winning.
