Or at the very least give us a DPS oriented Power / Precision or Power / Ferocity rune set instead of Traveler’s to use. Fundamentally though, it’s pretty horrible design that one class is having to give up combat efficiency (or carry two sets of armor) for what has become the game’s baseline out-of-combat travel speed.
Well this was unexpected.
Edit: It’s a typo. The patch notes meant Deflecting Shot.

I’ve been on the dishing out and receiving end of Trueshot and the animation time and visual, particularly for female models, is not distinct enough in my honest opinion.
I disagree on this but i’ve not seen the animation on female characters.
I think that 1vs1 it’s pretty obvious, in a team fight you can miss the animation if not paying attention but i still think it doesn’t need to be changed.
It’s 100% true about female models. It looks exactly like their auto-attack, only they’re standing still. This is absurd and frankly I can’t believe how lazy it is. Their animation should be updated to match the male model, which is fine.
Can confirm. I also can’t see the frog mobs in stealth, which makes zero sense.
Mordrem Snipers are fine, and with their low HP pools and obvious tells, one of the easier mobs to deal with in the expansion. This is a L2P issue.
Yeah, it’s females that don’t have the kneel. This is rather stupid and I agree that it should be changed to be more visible. Male characters are fine.
I am actually going to lobby for that cause to the gaming media. Hopefully they can see the benefit that would have to their readers.
Yeah, right. No one is going to be clicking on reviews after everyone has already played the content.
You can’t honestly think its good for the game that all the best Guardian builds for pvp involve DH?
Not sure how this is different than the meta before (every PvP build involved Valor) or any other class. There will always be builds that are better than others, and people are largely going to gravitate towards the best. This is a much better outcome than no one using the elite spec at all.
they are probably using the heavy light trait ever though about that?
No – there’s an issue where the spell effect isn’t loading for something all of the time. I think it’s Longbow 5, but I’m not completely certain since I can’t actually see it. The knockdown definitely behaves as if you’re encircled by a ward, though.
I’m not sure why the OP seems to think open world content has to be designed to be completed solo by brain dead people with physical disabilities. There’s no reason at all that open world content can’t be challenging (and HoT is only slightly challenging) – particularly when we’re talking about an end game zone for veteran players.
If you don’t like platforming, go play any other MMO – this is one of the features that sets GW2 apart. If you don’t like playing in groups, then don’t play an MMO at all. There are thousands of other games without platforming and for solo players – why you’re here playing one full of features you hate is beyond me.
I would add that this is only really apparent in PvE boss fights. In OWPvE and PvP, there’s enough movement that things just run into your traps, but in PvE, you’re trying to stay at range to maintain your PoS buff, then you have to run in to use trap, then run out again if you want to use Longbow more. It’s very awkward, but ultimately, probably something we’re stuck with (especially since traps work fine in every other area of gameplay).
Even then, in open world it’s faster to just rush them with a GS. Leap of Faith and drop traps, drop symbol and then WW. You will either gank one guy or a group of them. To me, the bow only serves to provide a safety cushion for viable dps when melee is too dangerous.
Sure – melee is always more rewarding in GW2. That’s irrelevant to the point about Longbow/Trap synergy though.
No. It’s an MMO. Use your friends list, guild roster, map chat, or find a different genre of game to play.
> longbow, the virtues, and traps need better synergy or at least not work against each other
How exactly do you feel that these mechanics don’t synergise well together?
It’s the traps themselves that don’t synergize well with the Longbow. Unless the enemy is constantly closing in on you, you have to stalk them from short range to keep traps going off on cooldown, meaning you give up 6% damage done from your build that requires you to deal damage from farther than 600 range. If you opt to stay beyond 600 and nothing pursues you, your traps may as well not exist. Traps synergize best with melee type weapons, since they deploy at your feet and don’t require melee to go out of their way to get them triggered.
Guardian Longbow #2 fires at the location where your aim was at the start of the ability’s cast, whereas if you were using tab-targeting, it would continue to track them. This ability should be updated to fire at the location you’re aimed at the end of the cast instead (checking to allow skill retargeting does nothing to affect this).
I haven’t had any trouble running around solo. Is your build terrible or are you playing poorly? Have you considered asking for advice in your class forum instead of blaming the content?
it just needs counterplay
You mean, besides the dodge button and the numerous immunity skills already in game?
.05 seconds is significant to you?
It just doesn’t feel as fast as the auto even though they have the same attack speed. So yes, it is.
Well when you put it that way – you’re right. They absolutely do not have the same cast time.
Between calling TERA “the only other MMO with action cam” and the insistence that you can only keybind like 6 abilities (Jesus Christ OP, have you played an older MMO like WoW?), this has to be a troll post. Please tell me this is a troll post.
Stay at range and kite the whole fight. This is not difficult unless you have bad players just standing in melee feeding him health.
The cast time on Shield of Courage is also extremely annoying. Not as big of a deal as with Wings of Resolve not being an evade, but would prefer that at least that one be instant.
OP: please go into your control settings make sure you have the “dodge” key bound. Then, when you trigger a trap, press the key you just bound “dodge” to. For a real MLG pro-level strategy, not walking in and out of the big circle trap is advised.
I like it how it is. I disliked seeing people constantly trying to counter comp before the timer ran out.
I think that’s a separate issue entirely.
DH is the only spec I found to be blatantly OP so far. Crazy sustain, burst damage, sustain damage, condi cleanse, crowd control, unblockable. Everything about them is mental.
There are certainly different DH builds with those elements, but it’s impossible for them to all be in one build. I think you’re getting bunker, medi, and trap cheesing builds all mixed up in your head.
Had your targets….idk….figured after the first death not to stand on point vs you and focus you with ranged pressure, you would’ve went down even easier than a thief. No shelter, no RF, no focus, not even PF for some condi cleanse while you burn targets. Everything and their grandmother couldve destroyed a garbage build like that lmao.
LOL, so you are calling Helseth and the other people there garbage? LOL
You can clearly see Helseth run in and out of one wall trap several times in a fight when he really didn’t need to. Obviously he’s not garbage, but his performance in the video clips (which is, of course, a cherry picked montage) was far from great.
Unlike Rangers DH don’t lose dps when they get close on the bow.
Welp, you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.
The only thing we lose is 7% damage bonus from our minir trait. Care to explain how he is wrong beyond that? Medi leap mid trueshot cast is brital in pvp for example.
Aside from that? What a lolworthy request. That’s like asking how cars are useful to every day folks aside from their ability to transport things. You can’t just rule out the entire point of something just because you want to disagree with my statement..
His statement: DH doesn’t lose DPS when going in close. Reality: DH loses a 6% damage modifier. Fact: DH loses DPS when going in close.
I’ve gone from “I’ll play this casually in OWPvE because I enjoy Longbow” to “I’ll play this in everything” pretty kitten fast. I still say we need better access to 25% MS (trait, utility, fourth virtue (lol), a rune set with DPS stats – I don’t care), but the last minute changes post-BWE3 really came through for us in a big way.
God forbid you play with other people in an MMO. This is not a single player game. If you want to kill champions, then get a group.
Unlike Rangers DH don’t lose dps when they get close on the bow.
Welp, you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.
Can we get a better solution to this then just removing it from the slot and putting it in the bag?
Actually giving us a weapon/gear management as part of a build manager system would be the best solution, but even leaving the weapon equipped and greying out the abilities would be a huge improvement. Or hell, just letting us re-equip the weapon by double clicking from the bag instead of having to open the hero menu and drag it in. Lots of room for improvement here.
Not really a bug, but True Shot needs to be fixed to fire at where it’s aimed when the cast finishes, not when it begins (with action camera mode, obviously).
I don’t know. It’s pretty amazing in PvP and WvW. I don’t think it’s OP right now so i’m not against a buff to cooldown/duration, but I won’t be advocating for it.
Agree with this. Line of Warding is an amazing skill in terms of area denial, and if you place it right on top of someone, you can knock them off when they’re trying to stomp or rez. I wouldn’t complain about a CD reduction, but it doesn’t need one.
This post is bizarre. I’m not sure if OP has like a dozen misconceptions about the game all mixed in together, or if he just needs to take some medication.
The only, and I mean ONLY change I’d like to see to Trueshot, is to have it gain 1,500 after-cast range AFTER you have begun casting it, so that if used at max 1,200 range and a foe moves during the cast, it would still likely land.
In pvp, I’d have seen some smart players who would see me standing still, knowing im at max range, and they would just barely walk backwards to avoid the hit, then move back to 1,200 range and keep hitting me with their range. It needs some forgiving bonus range since, unlike most other ranged skills, we lose distance when chasing our foe while trying to use it.
Won’t happen because action-targeting mode and the pierce would just make this a 1,500 range shot. Just gonna have to get used to it, I think.
Praise Joel!
Answering questions I didn’t even think I had!
The stationary casting is one of the biggest unique points of the Guardian Longbow playstyle – there’s no way they’re going to get rid of it. As long as it’s one of the hardest hitting ranged specs to compensate (and it seems that it will be), I’m perfectly fine with that.
It’s an expansion. Every edition is an upgrade edition.
If nothing else, I’d love the option to change the glow/flame effects on weapons a bit. If we could change all of the fiery weapons to the patented Guardian blue fire, a lot more looks would open up.
With the new action camera mode coming in HoT turned on and auto-targeting disabled, we’ll be able to play in a 100% skill shot mode, making lining up those sweet, sweet pierces a whole lot easier and fun to do.
I can’t really express how excited this has made me in words, so I’ll just stop typing here.

…and now for something completely different…
SUPERIOR RUNES OF THE DRAGONHUNTER
(1) +25 Power
(2) +10% cripple duration
(3) +50 Power
(4) 25% chance when struck to inflict cripple for 5 seconds. (Cooldown: 20 seconds)
(5) +100 Power
(6) +15% cripple duration, +25% move speed((suggestion for new profession-complimentary runes for HoT))
(6) +7% dmg to crippled foes
w/ or w/o speed and i’d be a fan, maybe 5% dmg + speed
i agree with this
+15% duration is good and all but you already put duration increase in 2. otherwise it looks gr8
It should be +20% cripple duration and +7% damage against cripple, just like Flame Legion runes. I’d prefer that to movement speed
Movement speed is the entire point of the rune in the context of this discussion.
…and now for something completely different…

Certainly wouldn’t complain if they gave us this. Having to use Runes of the Traveler wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t suck so thoroughly for so many builds.
Virtue of Courage already has an amazing active, and if you’re looking for something more “wow”, then just play a Dragonhunter.
I don’t have the time or inclination to organize/manage/wait for/find/or babysit a group each time I play a game. I want to like GW2 more but the lack of meaningful solo/casual content means I’m turning on a different game and playing it instead.
I like GW2 but all the group only/time gated crud in it just makes me look for something else, something that makes me feel my time was well spent, not filling the time gate crud and logging off to wait for the time gate to open. It feels more like a job then an interactive entertainment experience.
So yeah, OP I understand what you mean. There doesn’t feel like any meaningful things you can accomplish solo in this game most of the time.
It sounds like you don’t like MMOs. I don’t know why you bought one.
I mean us solo players paid the same price for our game and we don’t seem to be getting the same game experience for our money.
If you buy a Massively Multiplayer game and are disappointed in the quantity of solo content, that’s entirely your own kittening fault. Do you also go to Chinese food restaurants and complain that they aren’t offering enough Italian on the menu?
They might be better if there was a better way to command them, like attack a target or have them follow you, or stand in this position..
Shield would be amazing if it were a moving projectile absorbing bubble you could position like Ventari’s Tablet with a flip skill. Probably way too amazing.
I don’t think it’s about forcing traps so much as it is having one work as an option, which really would make sense if ANet wants condi guardian to be a legitimate build. Maybe if they decide one our traps is a bit weak, they can just attach some burning to it (or add it to a trait).
I’d also like to see a bit more burning on Longbow. I originally wanted True Shot to apply two stacks of burning, but with Pure of Sight being buffed, that may put its damage over the top.
I took into account laurels, which is why I’m not converting gems to gold for 40 Damasks. Maybe to help along my infinite light and stygian blade goals.
“Why would you spend laurels and more gold when you can buy for example Verata’s off the TP for currently less gold and no laurels? "
I thought about it, but the fundamental problem with that armor set is it requires charged quartz, which is time gated. At least you can have six pieces in six days, but if you want to deck an elementalist out in full ascended celestial you’ll need to put that on hold.
you only need charged quartz to make charged ambrite, and you can BUY the charged ambrite for about 1g 40s right now, so for charged ambrite at least, there is no time gate
or in other words:
buy the 6 charged ambrite from the TP
buy the intricate sinister insignia recipe and verata’s sinister insignia recipe from the silverwastes (1k crests total)
buy the recipes for verata’s sinister armor from the TP
make verata’s sinister armor.
buy the celestial intricate gossamer insignia recipe from the TP
make 6 gossamer insignias (this is the worst part, since it takes 30 days to get all the charged quartz)
throw them in the forge with the armor, an anthology of heroes, and 5 ecto.
voila! a set of celestial ascended armor with no laurel cost and no extra time-gating besides the charged quartz for the insignias (which is unavoidable anyway)
Charged Quartz is directly a part of the Celestial Insignia, which is account bound upon creation. Unfortunately, there’s no way to bypass the time-gating for the Celestial set.
Mighty Blow is on a utility weapon. Hammer is meant for CC, protection, and a blast finisher. It’s not meant to be a high damage weapon and isn’t, as a result.
Are you going to be comparing True Shot to Mace #2 or Staff #2 next? Weapons that serve different purposes have their damage balanced differently in keeping with the utilities offered by their toolkits.
The only remotely comparable Guardian ability would be on our other DPS weapon, Greatsword, which has greatly superior damage potential on its #2 skill (as is standard for melee damage focused weapons within GW2’s balance vision).
This thread has only gone on this long because so many people on this forum know nothing of how the game is balanced.
(edited by Isarii.2804)
Did you just come here to post an article that’s a repost of a thread that’s stickied in this very forum?
This thread is entirely superfluous.
All of the recently announced changes have been to elite specs only, as you would expect while the expansion is wrapping up its beta. There will be a class-wide balancing pass shortly after launch. If anything is going to happen to Spirit Weapons (which I doubt), it’ll happen then.
