Yeah, WASD can’t break kneel otherwise you’d only ever be able to dodge roll backwards without having to waste initiative to kneel again. Jump makes way more sense.

Noob Question about deadeye

in Thief

Posted by: Llethander.3972

Llethander.3972

I highly doubt that Rifle will end up being meta for PvE Deadeye. It’s far more likely that the damage buffs from Malice, along with the traits that also play with Malice, will be used along with other weapon sets like D/D, S/P, and Shortbow due to their ability to pull higher DPS, or greater AoE/Support potential, than the Rifle has.

Berserkers, however, will, more than likely, be the common meta set of choice. Just gotta wait until the theorycrafters have a chance to crunch the numbers and provide information regarding best-in-class stat combinations for Deadeye. That’ll most likely have to wait for PoF to actually release first, though I may be mistaken as I haven’t exactly gone looking for anything of that sort.

Where's the Deadeye cover?

Llethander.3972

Ultimately, the “immobile whilst kneeling” mechanic is meant to offset the (on paper) increase in throughput on the rifle skills, as well as the range increase, when compared to when standing. In order to balance the upgrades to the skills provided by kneeling, the player has been made mostly immobile whilst kneeling. It’s highly likely, though, that a kneeling Deadeye will get quickly jumped on by the [insert total number of gap closing skills here] blinks, teleports, and shadowsteps that the different classes have.

At least, that’s the way I see the design decision. It is, however, a bit of a clunky-feeling implementation. Pressing 5 a second time to stand up feels odd and, while I’m sure that will pass as familiarity grows, I, personally, would like it if jump could also be used to exit kneel.

Before you nerf Shadow Trap, fix it first.

I actually wouldn’t mind jump being used to move DE out of kneel. Give an alternative option such that skill 5 OR jump could be used. It’s not like jump does anything whilst kneeling, after all.

I don’t think this will be a thing. Imagine the difference in skills and play style, in combination with the different approaches that should be taken to combat, a Ranger compared to that of a Druid.

In PvP, every little bit of information you can glean from an opponent is important. Being able to see that you’re fighting a Daredevil instead of a Thief lets you know that you’re up against an extra dodge, as an example.

It needs work like most other halllf asssssseddd features anet adds to the game while ignoring our feedback. My biggest complaint is that you can’t stay locked on a target once you turn your crosshair too far left or right. Maybe they’ve never played Ocarina of Time? This style was perfected over 19 years ago. It’s not that hard of a concept to grasp. But then again, we’re dealing with anet here.

You can stay locked on – I believe Right-click is, by default, the button to target lock – but you can’t continue to attack if you’re not looking in their general direction if there’s another target where you’re looking.

What drives me nuts is that the target lock likes to break a lot on oversized world bosses that shift around a lot like Tequatl and Shatterer.

Would love to see more throwbacks to GW1 (Monk/Rit/Derv) but I honestly don’t see any new classes being added to the game in the future. Monk/Rit is basically covered by Guardian – the combination of spirits (spirit weapons) and healing/support abilities – so I wouldn’t count on seeing anything like them. Dervish may come in the future as an elite spec for Revenant as, if you think about it, the Avatar system feels similar to the Legend system.

I think, at this point, we’re gonna be seeing strictly elite specializations over new classes.

It sounds to me like the OP got the first exotic collection shield from the Revenant (Herald) reward track, since he’s saying he has the shield but it’s soulbound, put that shield into the bank and then deleted the Revenant.

To answer the question: the exotic shield is borked, you might as well salvage it. If you finish the collection achievement for the Ascended shield – Glint’s Bastion – you can still get it without the need for the first part, since you have already collected the item for that part of the achievement. The Ascended shield is account-bound, so once you get it you can swap it between characters at your leisure.

Just returned, a question about turrets

in Engineer

Posted by: Llethander.3972

Llethander.3972

The latest “balance” patch changed how turrets work – now they overcharge upon deployment, once. After that, they autoattack until picked up or destroyed. This change was made to let us use toolbelt skill regardless of whether the turret is deployed or not

Meh, that is a terrible idea. Why would they take control away from users like that?! My PvE playstyle depended on the Overcharge effect of the Flame turret… guess they want us all to equip bomb bundle and kite the enemy. I assume that is still the Meta? Bombs for solo pve and grenades for Group PvE? Or did they phase that out too?

My flamethower worked quite nicely with my flame turret for Blind Effects… mumbles, and here i thought i was to stupid and forgot something… was wondering why i couldn’t do the overcharge on my flame turret anymore.

The lack of overcharge of my healing turret is also annoying. I quite like to have that burst effect.

What a terrible idea!

“Most of the time, engineers were taking turret skills and never deploying the turret because the Tool Belt skill was too important to be overridden by the detonate turret skill.”

Screw that! I took turrets for their overcharge skills, i hardly ever used Tool Belt skills! I want my overcharge back!

The reasoning has a lot to do with power discharge builds taking turrets but never using them because the loss of access to the toolbelt skills was a noticeable DPS loss.

I like the change because it means I can actually use the turrets I take.

Stop complaining about turret changes

in Engineer

Posted by: Llethander.3972

Llethander.3972

I serious have never once thought about using the tool belt skill on turrets as they are small unnoticable abilites with the only one being any form of useful (and again not by much) is the rifle and thumpers as you can use those while stunned

And Rocket from the rocket turret. And Surprise shot from the rifle turret, moreso on a Static Discharge power build. Both of which a power bomb build will likely use, though they may still sub out the Rocket Turret for use of Grenade Kit’s barrage toolbelt skill. Surprise shot is still a must-have for non-scrapper power builds.

I actually appreciate the change because it means that I can actually use the turrets instead of just having them there but never dropping them because the toolbelt skills offer more DPS than if I were to place them.

Unplayable FPS; Gaming Laptop

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Llethander.3972

Llethander.3972

I think it’ll honestly depend on what you’re doing. Guild Wars 2 is a CPU bound game; what this means is that it uses far more CPU resources than GPU resources.

From the sound of it, you and I have very similar systems. I’m running GW2 on the MSI GT72VR 6RD-050 Dominator:

i7-6700HQ @ 2.6GHz (3.1GHz boost multi core, 3.5GHz boost single core)
GTX 1060
16GB Ram

I’m running with almost all settings at max. Shadows on “High”, because the max setting causes some unusual lighting issues especially in Draconis Mons. Sampling set to “Native” instead of “Supersampling” because it’s unnecessary on a 17.3in display. I’ve also tweaked things a bit with Sweet FX to make the game look more vibrant.

Click the spoiler if you’re running an MSI gaming laptop.

If you are running on an MSI machine I highly recommend uninstalling the pre-installed version of MSI Dragon Center and downloading/installing the most recent version from their website.Go to https://www.msi.com/support/ and scroll down, click on “Download and Manual”, select your system from the dropdowns, click the “utility” option, and download the “Dragon Center” program. Likely it’ll be version 1.2.1703.2001, but it’s safer to go through those steps just to be safe.

Once you’ve installed that, make sure that “Shift” is not set to “Power Saving”.

I typically get 40-70FPS in most zones, averaging around 40-50. During world bosses I typically see between 15-20FPS. It is very unlikely that you will be able to attain 60+FPS on max settings at all times. My CPU draw from GW2 tends to sit around 50-60%. It is somewhat unusual that yours is only using around 20%, I will not deny that.

If you’re getting sub-20FPS at all times (bear in mind that Lions Arch or other cities are poor places to gauge your FPS as there are usually a large number of other players at any given time) then there might be something going on. I would recommend double checking that your graphics drivers are up to date and double check that you’ve got all your Windows Updates. (Bear in mind that some people have been having issues with certain games, GW2 included, with the most recent Windows Creator’s Update.)

At the same time, since your system seems to be very similar to mine I am assuming that it has both an SSD and an HDD. Which one did you install GW2 onto? What other, if any, programs are you running in the background? How old is the laptop? Do you play True Fullscreen or Windowed Fullscreen? What resolution do you have your display set at? Is this the first time you’ve tried playing GW2 on this system? If no, did you have these problems last time? If no, what changes, if any, have been made since then?

(I won’t be able to get back to this thread until tomorrow, if I even remember. If not, hopefully someone else will be able to take the answers you give and help in my place.)

clearly you never used turrets if you approve of this change…
as someone who DID use turrets i could care less about the toolbelt skills,

i’ve lost my instant access to stealth from flame turret,
what did i get in return? a damage skill on a long CD…

i’ve lost the long range knockdown from rocket turret
what did i get in return? a damage skill on a long CD…

i’ve lost the double AoE knockbacks from thumper turret
what did i get in return? a damage skill on a long CD…

so what do turrets do once deployed now?
rocket turret does nothing but weak damage.
flame turret does nothing but weak damage.
rifle turret does nothing but weak damage.
thumper does nothing but weak damage.

they have absolutely DESTROYED turrets and you’re like “cool, stop complaining guys!”
it is against the forum rules to call you an idiot, so i certainly wont.

You seem to have missed the fact that turrets overcharge immediately upon drop now. Whilst it only overcharges once per turret drop, they still overcharge. This was a buff to Static Discharge builds because we can actually USE our turrets instead of only using the toolbelt skills.

After completing the Living World story segment and we recruit M.O.X. for our Home Instance, we have the ability to interact with him. One of the options is to play amazingly updated versions of old GW1 music – from Prophecies, EotN, and Nightfall, specifically.

I find myself wondering if this music is going to end up making its way on to the Anet Soundcloud account – https://soundcloud.com/arenanet - as I have already spent far too much time wallowing in painfully high levels of “Ooh! I know that song!” nostalgia and would LOVE to do so whilst on the go.

Mad props to whomever it was that proposed this feature of M.O.X. It’s gotta be my favorite throw-back to GW1 in GW2 that I’ve come across in a while. There’s the build I’ve been using forever and a day. The zerks gear gives damage and crit (for bunker down) while the celestial pieces give everything, including condition damage to bump up the pistol’s hybrid damage as well as providing survivability.

It brings a lot of breakbar damage, a stun break, 4 separate blast finishers and a decent enough split between physical and condition damage. Swap in a second pistol as preferred.

It’s not something I’d take into Raids, Fractals or PvP but it serves quite nicely in PvE. There’s very little that I have trouble with. Elixer R can be swapped with anything, I just like the utility from Throw Elixir R as I prefer being able to pick people up without having to actually stop to pick them up.

I freely admit that, from a meta standpoint, this build is garbage. I enjoy it, though.

Just going to point this out, but they don’t actually see through stealth. I use stealth a lot to avoid taking damage while gliding through the Fen. If any Mantle have targeted you while you were visible, they will get at least one rock off even if you stealth right away. Likewise, if you allow your stealth to fall off for even a split second between dodges you will also eat a couple of rocks.

The only way to avoid eating rocks while gliding is to chain stealths so that just before your first one runs out you reapply it. Granted this will only work so long as you have endurance, but it’s better than nothing.

And trust me, if my 15k HP Elementalist can glide through the Caldera without dying to rocks, when those bunks of dirt hit me for nearly 2-2K per stone, then you can, too. Just gotta be smart about it.

I would prefer it if exp continued to accumulate towards the next tier but perks were locked until the tier was actually unlocked with mastery points. Assuming people do their research (huge assumption though) then buying should always end up cheaper. If the price of collecting becomes cheaper people would eventually shift to doing it that way which will push the price on the TP down over time until it becomes cheaper to buy again.

The current problem is the fact that if you craft all the materials required to craft the precursor but, instead, sell those materials on the TP you will be able to buy the precursor from the TP AND still have made a profit.

This means there’s absolutely no point in crafting the precursor.

Greatsword vs Dagger for Power Build?

Basically what I’m seeing is that there isn’t a huge difference between the two weapons overall outside of Life Force generation.

While I really like the feel of the Greatsword, I’ve started using Dagger/Focus (in PvE) so that I can use Quickening Thirst instead of Signet of the Locust, since I use Blood in my build for the extra support from Vampiric Presence and Transfusion anyway.
