After weeks of this and answering all questions support have been emailing me,
they are now suggesting all this (timed) lag is being caused by “windows applications running in the background on startup” or failing that “turn off any firewalls etc”
The mind simply boggles…

If I am lucky enough to be able to load my characters, I have been moving them slowly to less populated maps before I disconnect again.
On certain maps, the game is unplayable, namely – Queensdale and Frostgorge Sound.
I wonder if certain accounts get throttled to dissuade them from train use.
Also, I cannot play in the evening anymore (6-12pm), not for over a week now.
UK and EE.
Some maps lack the issue though.
Back to playing other games until this is sorted.

Anyway as I said in a post above, I don’t care what anyone has to say about his or my response. The point is, facts are facts. 16k HMB from Wanze and no giant eyes. 750 LMB and 5 giant eyes from me. Facts are facts. Numbers are numbers.
Except it is not a fact, as I have had Giant Eyes drop from Heavy Moldy Bags. Are you also calling me a liar, as well as the name you just called me in your private message?
i dont like popcorn but i will drink tea whilst you two go at it.
We Dont Want Capes.
And anyway, arent they Cloaks?
Capes are for superheroes.
Silly Kitten.
Cloaks are a cape/hood combo. Capes are the shoulder down versions. What they had in GW1 were capes….and short capes which didn’t look very good imo.
orly?
“Cloaks generally fasten at the neck or over the shoulder, vary in length, from hip all the way down to the ankle, mid-calf being the normal length. They may have an attached hood, and may cover and fasten down the front, in which case they have holes or slits for the hands to pass through. However, cloaks are almost always sleeveless.”

It’s not just the name calling and the ranting either.
Someone shouts “Oak up” – someone else who is on the train at Boar says “wait for train” or “don’t kill” – doesn’t even say please, as if it’s a divine right to the train.
If this doesn’t tell you what’s wrong with the Champ Train nothing will.
way to necro a thread, so worth it too.
I also have zero interest in ascended anything (i spend all my laurels on dyes and that nifty cat potion was the only other thing i wanted) and i dont want anything to do with those joke weapons known as legendaries.
I would be happy just to be able to throw all these annoying mats into the mystic forge and get a minor rune of krait back.
Selling them to players that actually want them would be a dream come true (not really but i want to exagerate).
This skill challenge is very hard if youre on level when you do it.
Wait until youre 50+ and come back for it.

I’m anti-social. I’d love to be all social and in there and chatting all the time and stuff… but I’m just not that person. I’m in a guild of one and a half (that half being my kid, and she only plays to have fun, and doesn’t do any form of progression. She likes to bunny-hop around), although I did do a guild once or twice before, and they weren’t really my sort of people to play with.
Whenever I’ve gotten myself in a group (I tend to think this a mistake on my part), I start to panic somewhat, and don’t feel I can live up to any expectation I imagine the other players may have (admittedly when I’m on the ranger, I should think their expectations are low). I still try to succeed, because I, with all my anti-social ridiculousness, can believe in a greater good and working for it, even if that means in a group situation. I don’t want to let them down, I absolutely hate that idea, and that’s why I’d usually avoid it if I feel too nervous. As dumb as that may be. Sometimes I’ve got to force myself through this stuff – and yeah, if it goes well, I’ll feel better afterwards. Even though it’s just a game, I’ll take it as a win and even use it in RL if I have to.
I haven’t found any concept of guild I feel totally comfortable with, even if on some days I feel like “today could be the day! I could join a guild today and it will be a good fit!” I never get past just looking at a Guild Launch page, or an ages old server guild list. I also know I’m just too chaotic when it comes down to it, and sooner or later, cannot be relied upon. Even if I want to be approaching reliable, I’m just not. Something happens and I switch off.
Forcing me into having to play socially with others breaks my mind. Well… it doesn’t, not really, nothing quite so dramatic. But I do have to be feeling unnaturally confident to succeed. I know I can succeed, I’ve done it before, and I try to be open to ideas and new things, but I don’t like being forced into something. I’d rather decide for myself, not have a game or others do it for me. If what I decide happens to coincide with the game or others, then I’m sure it’s all good. But I don’t feel so bad if it doesn’t, and I will do something else instead. I am acutely aware of my limitations, and if something is trying to run counter to this, I just won’t do it (so a lot of jumping puzzles and things like SAB are out).
The best thing about this game is I don’t have to do things with other people if I don’t want to. There’s really nothing here like that. It’s only if I decide I’m focused on achievements, or ending the personal story, or doing marionettes, or whatever, that I have to co-operate. And yet I still decide if I want to do that or not. I’m not forced into anything unless I put myself in that position in the first place – and if I do put myself there, it’s with the foreknowledge of it involving others. I wouldn’t necessarily describe this as a social environment, however. With some of the backchat and nasty comments, it’s anything but. Sociopathic, maybe. It’s certainly not healthy.
If I miss something I find interesting (anything story or lore related for example), either due to time or “forced” constraints, I’ll look it up on the Wiki or similar. It may not be the same as experiencing it first hand, but frankly, I have a hard time reading/watching stuff first hand owing to the panic of doing stuff with other people who want it done yesterday anyway (dungeon story modes, I’m looking at you!).
A good post that says all that needs to be said.
Heh. OP build is OP. Expect Nerf. Whine less.
to quote yourself laughing at others:
GG whine. WP op. Welcome to GW2 forums!
Haha, and i never even noticed, shows how needed it was.
Given the number of red lizards I see at world bosses, many people playing the Ranger profession have noticed.
Not all rangers do world bosses, not all rangers use that pet.
As i already know about the pet-traits, i am going to ignore that last bit like you did with my post.
My point was that the list is SHORT, and needs to be LONGER, a single pet in 18 months does not cure that.
Players who invested years into GW pet collection have come to GW2 and found it wanting.
At launch i was shocked by how few creatures could be charmed, 18 months later and not a single creature was added to that short list.
Reef drakes were added.
Haha, and i never even noticed, shows how needed it was.
But you do raise a point i forgot,
why so many drakes, moas, spiders?
count them as one species and the short list gets even shorter.
In gw, i have an island-zoo full of creatures i charmed.
In gw2, i have a pocket full of slightly different sameness.
The number of creatures in this game versus the number of charmable creatures is laughable.
At launch i was shocked by how few creatures could be charmed, 18 months later and not a single creature was added to that short list.
ugh, anet, just ugh.
This nerf was brought in at the exact same time as the two new open-world boss events, coincidence?
The reasoning has been explained in an off-hand and misdirectional way.
Many blame the “Teq Burn Phase” as the cause of it but it is far more probable that they were nerfed because testing of the two new bosses confirmed what the devs already knew:
The current server system cannot handle the load of the players that want to attend these events.
This leads to skill-lag and skill-fail across the board, leading to relogs and overflows and failed events.
Nerfing the most-useful consumables was just an emergency band-aid, and it’s not working.
Expect more and more limitations as we go.
anet are keen to ensure that any shortfalls in this game are absorbed by the player base rather than do any more work than is necessary to keep it up and running.
genius <3.
i think i might be dual-classed.
perhaps thief/ranger.
i disliked capes in GW, they looked too short and superhero-y.
i dont miss them in GW2, but i’m not against the idea if done better than GW.
i seem to recall there being capes in beta and they were pulled before launch because of clipping issues, can anyone confirm this memory?
edit: I have to agree with Flytrap, the amount of clipping still in the game since launch is mindboggling. So clipping capes would be fitting amongst all the armour and weapon clipping going on.
(edited by Mimizu.7340)
the level of spite and bile in this thread is sickening.
This comes hot on the heels of the consumables nerf which was excused as correcting “blatantly bugged” content.
One can only assume that this item is also “blatantly bugged” content and can expect anet to fix it within the next 18 months or so.
Of course, by then the majority of players will have one;
“anet” are laughing all the way to the bank.
Hate to break this to you folks but the real “farmers” are not in the champ trains, they are in SE p1 farming the crap out of it. Those people in the trains are in fact, normal players who just want to get stuffs without faffing around for 6 hours and getting jack.
All I keep hearing is is jealousy and envy that some players are having fun and getting rewarded for doing so. There is no real reason to break up the players in QD other than spite.
From what I’ve heard Queensdale champ train was for karma farming. And I thought I saw a thread in the dungeon subforum that alluded to dungeons not rewording karma.
So they could be farmers. Just not loot or money farmers.
at 80, the QD champs give 10k(ish) xp and 200(ish) karma.
200 Karma
a round of 5 champs excluding spider but including wasp gives 1000(ish) karma.
hardly a major karma farm.
make another necro to get the mask and transmute the mask onto the stats of a white head armor piece. then you can put it into your bank and your old necro can take it and wear it, transmuting it again as you like. you just need a spare character slot. then delete the new necro. job done.
If they were made tradeable i would happily sell my stock of these and other mats i will never use.
some legendarys are unfortunately a joke, i feel sorry for anyone who wanted to take a mace build seriously and get a legendary, i hope that if new legendarys are ever released that they are approached with more consideration for people who don’t want their apex weapon to be comic relief.
is there an ETA on next group of legendarys?
i agree.
when i first saw the legendaries i was so underwhelmed i actually felt pity for anyone wanting them.
i ignore them entirely, as though they are joke weapons from some other game.
one thing i disliked about GW was the drawn-by-toddlers weapon designs, and some weapon sets in GW2 have carried on that Kiddy-Kitsch tradition.
honestly, the legendary weapons look as though the designer was possessed by Disco.
Here’s a question from a new player.
So, champ train. Never knew what it was until I read a thread on it. (Not seeing one ingame.)
Aren’t there champions for EVERY starting zone? Why aren’t people running “champ trains” in those zones too?Several zones have a “world boss” that spawns based on a timer and/or certain events, including four of the starting zones. But the “champ train” is not about those, it’s a series of champions that spawn constantly allowing players to run in an endless loop. In Queensdale it’s Troll – Bandit – (Wasp, on a longer respawn timer) – Spider – Boar and then back to the Troll. All are easy to kill with a group, and all give bonus loot every time.
Most zones have champions, but only Queensdale and Frostgorge Sound (a high-level zone) have them arranged so that players can constantly go from one to the next like this.
no Oak?
Imperatora,
as long as the map contains tp and crafting facilities and the champs give bags and karma, i dont mind where the train is placed.
Queensdale just happens to have all those criteria.
With a bit of jiggling, anet could turn any map into one viable for a champ train.
(edited by Mimizu.7340)
Your premise contains too much conjecture for it to be taken factually.
I enjoy the Queensdale Train on the Underworld server, we do not suffer from what you describe.
As you are a resident of TC, i am going to assume your post is roleplaying.
I understand the need to avoid repetition in order to avoid suppression.
Just play with word formats rather than repeat and you will never be suppressed.
I do not agree that commanders should be suppression free, i have seen commanders that troll people in chat just for “lolz”.
this is true.
this is also why the consumables were nerfed with this update.
they would have tested the new zergs with embers and pets and mortars and watched everyone enter skill lag or skill fail.
on the busiest servers/overflows just normal skill use will cause this.
anet needs more than a bandaid now.
i dont like his voice or his acting, too hammy.
maybe he was cheaper than the good ones.
you can only get exotics from world events if you are lvl 62+ BUT you can also get exotic items from champion bags even at lvl 2.
but to expand on that, I do not think you can get any precursors from the champion bags.
In fact, all the exotics from the champ bags are from a specific loot table of the named exotics that released in that up date – entropy, highborn, e.t.c.
So you won’t find precursors, older named exotics or even craftable ones.
yes, the named exotics i have been talking about can be found on this page:
I have had named exotics drop for level 22-46s in Queensdale.
Sure, on a higher level character. Not on a 20th level character. A percentage of drops will be at level, if your level is high.
That’s why I said a low level character in a low level area has no chance for a high level drop.
unsure what you mean, i was responding to the above poster stating that exotics only drop for lvl 62+.
i have had a named exotic drop for a level 22, a level 27, a couple of 30-somethings and a 42. i have had more drop for level 50+ but i cant recall exactly as it doesnt seem as “epic” a drop for higher level toons.
I have had named exotics drop for level 22-46s in Queensdale.
Queensdale Train = Endgame.
I see far too many 80s there with full ascended gear wielding legendaries.
Doesnt say much for the rest of the content.

Anthony,
will you be offering refunds to those of us who have enjoyed using these consumables to enhance roleplaying/soloing? This “fix” hits us the hardest and is most unwelcome. These items made the game tolerable.
Anthony,
you said you would answer our questions about this change,
you have ignored my question so far,
please answer.
I have never done and will never do this “Teq”, Dungeons, PvP, WvW, Fractals or any of these new bosses or any of the content you seem to have nerfed this because of.
You seem to be under the false impression that every single player is using these items to abuse content.
If you will not allow me to use these items in the same state i purchased them in,
please refund all gold spent on them so i can purchase something useful.
Your team has knowingly allowed “bugged” content to be sold ingame for a year and a half now, then altered without notice, the onus is on you.
i thought this already existed?

Maybe the cooldown should only go into effect if the pet is used in combat? Not sure how to fix the situation if it is really causing issues at big events like teq. The teq I did yesterday, however, went over just fine even with this cd implemented.
All other alternatives are too expensive,time-consuming, or difficult to implement.
There were two changes they could have done:
-increase cooldown timer
-increase ember price from vendor to make it more costly to spamConsidering that there are plenty of people with stacks of embers in their inventory, I think they felt that the 1st choice was better
A long term solution for this and other things, something to work on over time, could be an optional and more prioritized culling.
Enemies always visible
Players in party always visible
Guildmates and friends more likely to be visible than others
Everyone else less likely to be visibleGo to escape -> settings -> graphics -> Enable culling. What is and isn’t visible is determined by FPS- it optimized to put you at 20-30 fps, or an fps you choose. Removes players and non-aggressive NPCs as necessary
That would pretty much render this issue moot, as players can turn it on and no longer worry about lag from too many objects on the screen.
I agree – long-term they should make culling a bit more customizable so that you can separate pets/minions/npcs/partymembers/mobs/players.
Also agree, i proposed this on the first page.
Nerf Yes.
Buff No.
Anet<3.
Bugged Content?
I Await My Refund.
I have had it for weeks now, post-patch it is slightly more frequent for me.
The fact that most of these items ever existed is just blatantly a bug.
So your team was designing something else entirely and these items just spontaneously came into existence accidently?
And nobody noticed for a year and a half?
Nice one.
Who needs logic anymore, right?
(edited by Mimizu.7340)
i told you so the little ausura told that i’m right she 2 thinks the dragon is involved
i called it months ago, so have others.
i got shoved into an almost empty overflow as the event started, twice.
quickly failed both times.
i dont really want to try it a third time.
scaling has a threshold that random overflows cannot meet.
Assuming you logged in at the single most inconvenient time (one minute after one of the bosses depopped), you would then have to wait 39 minutes for the next spawn for one of the two new bosses.
Assuming you log on at ANY other time (the times you call more convenient), you’ll find yourself in overflow.
slow clap
Or, you could wait with your friends on your own server and get kicked into overflow just as the event starts, find yourself suddenly alone and watch the event quickly fail, again…
i saw that also, dont much like it either, it’s like they messed up the edges of the text box.
Stop beating around the bush.
The items were op, and they were not meant to be spammed in combat like that.
The faster people admit it the faster you’ll move along.I got zero problem with Anet saying so & making a change. Spouting bs to a paying customer is a different story. The faster they admit it the faster everybody will move along.
If people would stop kittening about every single good change they make because they had to nerf something in the process then I would expect ANet to treat us players with better respect.
The thing is you (and by you I mean a lot of people on the forums) as a paying customer (a kittenty one for that matter) for some reason expect to be able to trash talk the devs every time you (again, by you I mean a lot of players) don’t like something. Honestly if I were them I’d file out bans in bulks. Remember it’s a mmo and you are paying for their services, you don’t own anything in this game, and they can choose to terminate their services at any time.I have never done “Teq”, PvP, WvW, or any Dungeon in this game.
I just like to meander through open-world-pve and level up my nine characters slowly.
I use the consumables to aid my solo play but only where they fit in with the character i am currently playing.
My elementalist specialises in fire magic summoning and i like to use both fire elementals all the time, having a third through the use of a consumable was like christmas for me ( i have a fire imp mini and they share the same animations, all 4 flying summoned fire creatures flapping flames around her).
Why is my casual play nerfed because of something happening somewhere else?
How is this a “good change” for me?
MMO, mass multiplayer online. If you want everything to resolve around yourself, please go play a singleplayer game. They can’t fix a game keeping in mind every single player’s needs.
No need to state the obvious, i think i know that already.
I asked how you thought this was a “good change”?
i shall also edit some extra into this post:
your tone is overly dismissive and confrontational, this isnt a battle.
there are several other ways to have altered these items, the worst way was chosen.
they could simply be culled via the graphics settings and made unable to be summoned on certain maps and instances.
this is just a clunky quickfix that has done more harm than good.
