The combat is not perfect, but after playing WoW, I’ve realized that the trinity system is really not that different except at challenge dungeon levels. When playing dps, I am even less engaged because I am not responsible for my health, as a healer I just tag along and click on people. The trinity system is not inherently better that the one in gw2

I’ve found that the time gating really did not affect me as much as I first though because my main limiting factor is getting emperirial fragments. I’ve made 3 ascended armor pieces.

Gw2crafts.net (I think that is the name) gives a good cost estimate for leveling crafting. I’ve done LA needn’t 5 or so times and I have almost 2 stacks of blade fragments, so it shouldn’t take long to get enough.

One fun thing to do with d/d is to combine that with caltrops and the caltrops on dodge. With death blossom you can pull fairly large groups and bleed them all to death. But you can die from one mistake, but that’s what makes it so fun

How did you get them To stand like that?

With sword focus, I find that it helps to do the 3 leap, then 5 then 2. This will help the phantasm get more hits off because of the immobilize and since you will already be in melee range so the target will be less likely to move.

For leveling I used d/d with caltrops on dodge and the caltrop skills, I aggroed groups of mobs, layer down caltrops and then deathblossomed and dodges until everything bled to death.

They are going to remove magic find on armor and move it to account bonus like from the achievement chests. So either go zerker or wait to see if they remove adventure or see what stat they replace magic find with.

I was trying to do CoE which was closed, but the commander was up so my party decided to kill him. Then scarlet invaded and every time we attacked the commander, scarlet showed up and murderd us all.

It really depends on what stats ou want. The Armageddon set is easy to get but you can only get soldiers, rabid, or magi stats, which are not too great of thieves IMO. If you have leather worker 400 and the right mats/money then crafting a set is a good way to get what you want.

This is kinda related, is the female norn ranger sword animation any different from the male one?

In my experience, rabid is great if you are doing map completion by yourself and zerker is great for events/dungeons/with a group. When I explored Orr with zerker, if I aggroed 3 or more mobs and didn’t run, I would die, with rabid I can fight 5 or more no problem.

I am also looking for a build for fractals and dungeon. I’ve been using 30/0/0/20/20 that I threw together while leveling but I don’t know if its good.

I have a lvl 80 thief that I have not geared yet and I want to start fractals and am wondering if thieves are good/useful for fractals or if I would be better off leveling one of my other alts.

I didn’t notice any speed differences until I started working on my last and when I run with a group. It’s usually not that bad because one blink will let me catch up. I personally don’t mind it too much though it is frustrating.

It sounds like that Mesmer could be using prismatic understanding which gives boons while stealthed.

Clones attack slower than the real Mesmer and they don’t have offhand weapons. Also, Mesmer stealth come from torch off hand, decoy, and mass invisibility which has a cast time. So if they have a torch, chances are they will stealth.

I use a staff condition build that doesn’t require much movement or shatter, get mobs to aggro the clones with phase retreat get more clones with other skills or deceptive evasion, then sit back and wait for things to die. I only shatter when whatever I’m targeting is about to die or i can get another set of clones up. I use 0/20/0/25/25 with all rabid armor but the main thing is the staff.

Thanks for the advice. I do have a lvl 70 theif and I’m about to try and get wvw map completion so I an thinking of how to deal with the challenges.

I don’t play wvw or pvp but I came up with an idea and want to know if it could work. When targets stealth, our clones stand around so if I were to move so I was standing with my back inside a clone, would that make the thief hit the clone and not me?

I have a lvl 13 ele alt and I am struggling with fighting even one, same level mob, I win but with 1/4 of my health left and if there are multiple mobs I die quickly or get downed a couple of times. I think my problem is with in combat mobility. I am used to playing mesmer/theif which has many ways to avoid damage or warrior/guardian where damage doesn’t really matter. As an low level elementalist I only have 2 dodges, no vigour, and only arcane shield to protect myself it seems. I would really like to enjoy playing my ele but I can’t tolerate it so any advice would be appreciated.

My favorite times are when downed #2 actually saves me.

Once I was soloing a champion destroyer troll and I got myself cornered and downed. I used downed 2 and got out of the way and watched my clones hold off the troll while I rezed.

Also I love how I can still kite while immobilized.

I guess I was over exaggerating because I run blink and often have phase retreat. DE was one of the traits I was looking forward to when leveling and what really made mesmers so much more fun.

Another idea to improve mesmers would be to let us summon illusions to dance with us. I want to be able to have a big dance party of myself.

Today I portaled a guild mate to the end of pig iron jp, why? Because after doing the entire puzzle he got knocked off by the veteran mob, twice. If portals are banned or limited to myself, I will no longer be able to help those that fail. True, it can be used to skip most puzzles but that is not really important enough to prevent me from helping others.

I really don’t think it will be moved because while we generate clones we loose dodging as defence. Many times when I dodge twice to get clones I’m left in a position where I get hit because I can’t avoid it. Where as IC has no downside.

What I used portals for is quickly getting back to the place I failed. There were many portals that led to common places people fail so they didn’t have to keep redoing the same parts. Also a portal to the blimp and then a portal to the goggle platform was wonderful when I was trying to do the dive.

Portals only ruin things if you let them. If you want the seance of accomplishment then don’t use them.

I’m glad that we probably are not fighting dragon minions. I’ve been fighting them almost constantly while exploring the world. I would rather fight new enemies than yet another risen invasion.

Well I never used confusion much but I play only PvE and condition works fine there if a bit slow.

I used to have a rather defencive rabid condition build before I switched builds for some variety, and I shattered quite often. I has a lot of clone generation skills so I would shatter whenever I could instantly get another 3 clones up instantly. Now it will not do as much damage as you are used to, so if you want your main damage to be from shatters then I don’t think rabid is a good choice.

Whenever it try to do that puzzle, I always make it past all the timing parts only to fall through a hole and die. Tis happened while I was trying to get to the end to portal for some people, very embarrassing for me.

I am also a Slyvari Mesmer and I love glowing purple as well as shooting purple. I believe that the most pupleness (or pinkness) can be acheved by being a Slyvari, thus they are the best mesmers.

Thanks for putting the bonfires back up, but could you be more explicit on the times? I will be at school almost all day and would like to know if I will have time to get the achievement

I prefer the staff over greatsword too. I’m currently trying out different builds but I love the mobility of the staff and chaos storm.

The Mesmer is kinda limited with respect to AoEs. Aside from what you mentioned, the only real AoEs are pBerserker, glamour skills, and a very limited range PWarden. However, staff, greatsword and pistol have bouncing attacks that let you hit two or so things at a time.

What I do in PvE with the staff is when my first target is low, switch to another and stand near the almost dead one to kill it when my attacks bounce off of me.

I don’t think it is remotely overpowered. We give up the ability to dodge later, or if we dodge to avoid an attack, the clone dies and removes another if there were three up already. If the wiki is correct, there is an effective 5 second cool down with vigor up as endurance regenerates. So it is essentially 2 phase retreats that have a chance of removing a clone. So by using DE, we loose defence, and if we dodge defensively, we actually loose a clone.

I use pretty much that build and I think rabid is one of the better options. Toughness adds to condition damage and precision procs sharper image and the vigor on crit more often. One problem, rabid is kinda annoying to get, since I’ve only found to get parts of the set from Orr temples and besides finding it, dungeons, sylvari cultural, and whispers armor are the only place to get it. Not too much of a problem for my sylvari who joined whispers, but could be for others.

I use a condition staff build and it works fine for me, although I don’t know if it is the most optimal. My build is 0/20/30/0/20 with illusory elasticity, deceptive evasion, and chaotic dampening. I’m trying to get a full set of rabid, but the Orr karma armor only has a few pieces of it.

My favorite is “wha, what’s going on” when I get confused.
