Q times are dope. Poppin quick and easy like a pimple after a steamy bath mhhhmmmm.
Yes, sundering leap will create and immediately detonate a fire aura when used in a fire field.
I understand there is some confusion surrounding the new KoF mechanic. Anet describes it as… “King of Fires: This trait’s functionalty has changed. It now gives fire shield on a critical hit (15-second internal cooldown). Using berserker skills detonates any fire shield currently applied, inflicting 3 stacks of burning for 3 seconds to nearby foes. Increases outgoing burning duration by 33%.”
If you (like myself) thought that berserk burst skills would detonate fire auras, you’re wrong! Berserk bursts do NOT detonate fire auras.
I’m not sure if this is bugged or working as intended. The good news that rage skills WILL detonate fire auras. When coupled with last blaze, that’s instant 4 stacks of burn. When you take into account the spammability of rage skills, this new mechanic is quite strong!
Armed with this knowledge, go forth with and craft a burnzerker that easily reaches 400k+ condi damage dealt per pvp match (like mine below), and feel the bern.
Edit: I think my mmr was in the toilet after taking a break from gw2 for season 1. I am now averaging ~275k condition damage dealt. The new KoF mechanic is fun, but burnzerker remains overshadowed by viper rev in pvp.

Pvp is fine. This patch is a huge improvement from the utterly broken bunker meta of season 1.
1. The name of the person being spectated is already highlighted at the top left or right of the screen. Kill count is a useless statistic in GW2. Its so easy to tag someone or safestomp to get a kill without contributing much to a team fight. Weapons are easily discernible.
Death count is pretty significant. A banner with runes, sigils, trait families, and also amulet would be a welcome addition if it was tastefully done.
2. Good idea.
3. Your best idea. Would allow for more skill rotation analysis (which for some reason doesnt exist.)
4. This is true. Even though they saw the build 14 times in NA, they should have explained it in-depth at least once. By now they should be familiar with it and its rotations.
5. Your worst idea. It contradicts the title of your post, OP. That system would reward unskillful gameplay.
It would also be nice if spectators had access to the death breakdown.
It’s super silly to relate GW2 to CS:GO. CS:GO has great spectator UI, but the reason that its fun to watch is that it relies heavily on coordinated multi-faceted strategies, pin point precision, improvisation, and the occasional heroic god-like feat by players. GW2 will never be on that competitive level.
This thread is pathetic. Tempest is great. If you want to go back to the same d/d rotations we’ve been doing for years, be my guest. I’ll be engaged timing my auras to counter my opponents while offering some of the best support in the game and still putting out decent damage.
I do agree that the warhorn was nerfed into the ground.
Seriously how can you complain about tempest. ITS META. There’s only 5 builds in the meta. Try playing a warrior for heavens sake, you ungrateful little kittens.
Glad to hear you’re having fun on thief. They’re really not as bad in the current meta as people say.
You can right click on people’s names in chat to report them for bullying. I think it says abusive chat or something.
Also, unhindered combatant is a really good dodge for dealing with necros. I always take it if the other team has more than one necro because their chill hurts.
Keep having fun on thief! Hone your skills and outplay your opponents to death.
/forumbug is bugged
Thank you anet! My alts are so happy!
You’re the best around, dulfy!
Good post I like it.
It should be noted that mastery unlocks are account bound, so the second set of numbers is really way too high. I’m guessing it’d take 2 or 3 hours per alt.

The common denominator is not “I don’t want to play to unlock this,” its “I don’t want to grind masteries for 20+ hours and burn through new PvE content to enjoy the rest of the game with new elite specs,” such as dungeons, fractals, wvw, etc.
Example:
- When you create a new character, do you expect to go off and kill Zhaitan at level 1?
- In real life, do you expect to register for college, and walk away with a 4 year degree on your first day of school?
Simply play the game. HoT is an expansion that offers new skills. Logically, your character would need to learn and master the new skills, not just walk around and instantly become Elite. If you really want to get those new skills, you gotta earn them.
Your examples are flat out stupid and do not reflect my feelings towards the road to elite specs. I have no problem having to earn the new skills. My problem is with the process in place. I’ll elaborate below.
The common denominator is not “I don’t want to play to unlock this,” its “I don’t want to grind masteries for 20+ hours and burn through new PvE content to enjoy the rest of the game with new elite specs,” such as dungeons, fractals, wvw, etc.
Only because playing the content has somehow become ‘grind’. I’ve spent my time taking part in events, earning rewards and my masteries level as a result. Is that not how it’s meant to work? If I was going to get everything maxed as soon as the game went live, or in the 20+ hours quoted, I’d have seen it as an epic waste of money as imo a game is there to be played over a long period of time. I don’t care that I’ve not maxed my Reaper traits and all masteries in one day, means there’s more stuff for me to do tomorrow. No one’s putting a gun to anyone’s head and saying ‘sit there for however long it takes and don’t move until these things are maxed’. If you’re bored of working on traits, do some Halloween, do some fractals, do some WvW. It’s not like there’s a shortage of stuff to do in game (or out of it and trust me, there is an outside world!).
I too wish to milk the content for a long period of time, to enjoy it. I play all the content gw2 has to offer. The problem is that I want to enjoy this content with new elite specs. This is paramount to understanding why so many people are dissatisfied: we want to play the elite specs.
Because of this, “just do some fractals or wvw or go play tennis if you get bored with masteries” – that argument right there doesnt work because I’ve done all of those things for years now and I would like to spice it up with elite specs.
No one’s putting a gun to my head but I’m definitely being forced to complete a large portion of the jungle before the rest of the content. And that sucks because I’m loving the jungle. Its beautiful and awesome and I want to take my time with it, but more than that I want to be able to use elite specs because that effects every other stream of gw2 content, so it looks like I’m rushing the jungle.
In a perfect world I could enjoy the jungle with my elite spec, instead being forced to (nearly) complete the jungle if I want to use that elite spec in dungeons, fractals, wvw, and guild halls.

Gaile gray’s post implies people who have a problem with long grind for their basic elite skills and traits are in some way just silly.
But… all the complaints are silly. The common denominator for all of them is “I don’t want to play to unlock this, I want it now.” Anet Devs said previously that they pay attention to legitimate complaint posts, the ones that actually provide constructive feedback. And they take that feedback and make changes to the game.
Edit – Somewhere buried in the forums, Colin or MO actually gave examples of changes they made based on player feedback.
The common denominator is not “I don’t want to play to unlock this,” its “I don’t want to grind masteries for 20+ hours and burn through new PvE content to enjoy the rest of the game with new elite specs,” such as dungeons, fractals, wvw, etc.

Anet wants players to actually play the game? And you’re complaining about that?
I have no words…
Its almost like people expected to play the game with new elite specs or something….
The mastery grind is real. Most people, like myself, expected masteries and elite specs to exist as separate entities.
I agree! Thank you Lena!
Do you guys think that there should be this kind of passives that you don’t know when they are up, that are not displayed as a boon ?
Yes. Absolutely yea.
Part of the game is deciphering what build your enemy is running so that you can prepare to counter it. Having all passives that are waiting to be proc’d displayed is too transparent and would lower the skill cap of PvP.
The windows at Khylo – pretty sure thats a bug that ranged channeled attacks like your gs 1 and ele scepter air 1. The simple solution is to just swap weapons if you dont want to blow a CD.
For canceling any skill, you can use the stow weapon command. This command is not bound by default. You can find it in Options > Controls > Misc.
As long as you’re standing still, you can continue attacking no matter what you do with the camera. Its when you move that a line of sight check comes into play for some skills.
Sounds like condi transfer on steal. Sounds freakin awesome.
+1 keep flexing those wonderful brain muscles.
You can guard a point by not being at it. You simply return to the point if there is a risk of it being decaped.
The argument being presented is that it is impossible to catch up to a thief in a scenario to prevent a decap, which is not true.
That’s just not true for every profession. Unless you have a mesmer port or a FGS, you’re not making it from the team fight at node B to the thief decapping at node A.
If what you said was true, then thieves would have no place in the meta.
Throughout all of gw2’s history, thieves have been a very integral [mandatory] element due to their mobility, however , I think it is time to address some aspects of the class, namely the way their mobility and stealth come into play in Conquest.
I keep hearing that thieves are in a bad spot (mostly by thieves players) but they dont seem to realize the strength of basically forcing a 4v5 everywhere by constant decapping threat, or their ability to get out of vitually anything and anyone if so they wish with Sb 5 and stealth.
Are we honestly ok with this? Is it ok for a class to single handily dictate the pace of a match with only 2 abilities? I honestly dont think this translate to much fun to both the opponent or the thief himself, since there is no fighting involved at all, jsut running around all the match, “chasing” after the incapturable ….
If you leave a point unguarded for a thief to decap you that’s on you.
The simple fact that a theif can’t 1v1 any other meta class in this game means all you have to do is get to the point before its decapped.
Hell even some of the worst players in the game can hold a thief off long enough until help arrives.
Complaining about thieves at this point in time is just a sign of a player who needs to improve his game.
this ^^
You’ve missed the point entirely. Any decent thief would not engage at that node and go +1 a team fight (since +1 is created by guy doing nothing at node) via ganks and res.
OP, removing this role from thief would require a massive overhaul of the class that would likely kitten off as many people that it would please.
Sinister venomshare with high alacrity uptime seems like it will be viable.
yes, running generosity.
I actually got “Hit” 5 times… that went to 8o k burning?
Say what you will, all you come off as is a burning build trying to defend cheese.
You brought a knife to a gun fight and now you’re complaining about it? You’ll have a much better time in PvP if you bring multiple sources of reliable condi clear.
Oh and dodge the highly telegraphed zealot’s flame if a pebble on the ground doesn’t obstruct it from hitting you. Sorry but it really is just L2P.
Hey all,
I’m looking to fill the condition dps role in the upcoming raids, so which professions can dish out the highest damaging conditions?
I’m currently charging quartz for my sinister gear, and I really don’t want to waste it on a sub-optimal profession. I’ve never really messed around with conditions in pve (though I’m excited that they have a niche role now) so I could really use some advice.
Thanks!
The idea of running barbarian amulet as training wheels is actually a great idea for new thieves. Its a great way to learn how to properly rotate and +1 without the punishment of going down in a single enemy burst.
So is this where I QQ because I can’t use my brain powers to craft a build that competes with the ones from metabattle.com?
I highly doubt this is a glitch. There’s oodles of top stats given out every game.
Anet actually announced at twitchcon that with the introduction of leagues, balance will be prioritized with at least 4 balance patches a year. Link:
http://dulfy.net/2015/09/25/gw2-twitchcon-pvp-leagues-info/
You’re right about the soloq meta leaning toward condis. I’ve been doing fine bringing lots of cleanse. Bring AoE cleanse when you can. It can really turn team fights around.
The big upcoming Problem with Elite Tiers
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Spurrlock.3219
The big upcoming problem with your post OP is that there is three completely different streams of content in GW2, and different tiers for each. We should probably all just chill, maybe wait until after we’ve tested the current iterations of the new specs, then give feedback.
Hey guys,
I’m sure this has been brought up before, but wouldn’t it be great if we could save and name our builds, and swap them out with a couple of clicks instead of doing it manually every single time?
I bring this up in the pvp forum because I believe it would be easiest to implement in this area of the game. The reasoning being that amulets, sigils, runes, traits, and utility skills are all always available, so it SEEMS like this would be a simple feature to code in. As long as weapons aren’t saved in the premade build, everything is where it always is so how hard could it be to create a reference to set a of skills/runes/sigils/amulet and equip that reference instead of each individual thing?
Oh and I’m pretty sure anet already has the tech for this, considering my open world build is preserved when I go to pvp and wvw, and vice-versa. (vice-vice-versa?)
This way I wouldn’t have an anxiety attack every time I get Courtyard and I have to completely revamp my build to full zerg support in 45 seconds.
I think it would be soooo nice. What do you think?
Trickster, Shadow Arts, and Shadow Step get me by. If you don’t want to run SA you could try Lyssa runes, maybe sigils of generosity. I think signet of agility will clear a condi. But yea, thieves have some of the worst condi removal in the game right now.
A marauder-esque version of full sinister stats would be nice. 1050 power, 1050 precision, 560 vitality, 560 condition.
Edit: Swiftwynd beat me to the punch. What he said is gold.
(edited by Spurrlock.3219)
Ah yes OP, this is a super tanky version of a build thats been floating around for a bit.
You actually dont have to go berserker ammy for a more offensive approach. There is a very comfortable middle ground with valkyrie ammy and the arms line, since arms can provide lots of crits.
Check it out you might enjoy it. Its a tad squishier but way more damage.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vJAQNAS5ejMdQZIWFCehApIGUCqLLCgfXnijvEwNYE+AA-TpBCABA8AAArMwwHEAKuAAXcEAOa/BA
Wow I had no idea this was split. Considering axes have the only direct damage synergy with the berserker spec, normalization on axe 5 would be a very nice change.
+1
Solid write up Burr. I believe you’re voicing a lot of warrior’s concerns. Choosing between two core specs along with berserker is illuminating problems with core warrior. And the restrictions on entering berserk mode are flat out punishing by rubbing those problems in your face. I’d be very interested in a dev response to BWE3.
I haven’t preordered so I don’t have a chance to test it but does Dead or Alive scale at all with healing power? I’m running a Cele build in WvW and I can see it replacing Strength/Arms (D/D) for us hybrids builds.
In HoTM jumping from a berserker ammy (0 healing power) to clerics (1200 healing power), Dead or Alives heal rose from 5220 to 5268.
So yes! it scales
Alright so .. What PvP builds are chronomancers supposed to run with?
I’m running this power shatter build and its faceroll godmode.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhAQNAR8encfClphlfCufCEgilZj68FyhfrMAqtkpeX/1hF-TJRBABxXGQjLCQS7PAwTAAA
It doesn’t look like much at a glance but the synergy is bonkers. I can’t comment on iAvenger because I can’t keep track of my clones. Illusion on dodge. iDefender on evade is actually REALLY strong because it can shatter twice. Illusion on shatter(of at least two). Heal and aoe blind on shatter which is just hilarious because there’s constant shatter fodder. Team support with wells and on heal trait and res. Seriously I feel bad playing this build. Its hilariously effective.
PvP perspective: cele d/wh
I think I’m spoiled since this is my first BWE, and the tempest felt so right, so polished. Healing on auras is great and I think it puts shouts in the same tier as cantrips (if you trait for auras).
My only complaint is fire 4 and 5 on the warhorn. 3/4 second cast time on heat sync is too high. I’d never use this in battle because it leaves you so vulnerable. So only for prestacking might which is lame. Fire 5 has too long of a windup. It would be better if it came out faster (it could die out faster for balance).
My favorite moments were finding buddies that were less than 50% health, washing the pain away, water 4, 5, 3’ing back to full. Crazy burst heal.
LOL the second one looks like he lands ans lets a huge one rip. NIIIIICE 10/10
Ok guys I’m back and I just finished berserkin in power mode!
First things first, this is from a pvp perspective.
Alright. I had a blast. It was so much fun. I’m freakin serious guys this is not /sarcasm. I’m sure you’re all wondering how so I’ll get to that. So it looks like lots of new berserkers tried to just swap out one of their existing lines for berserker, and it seems like that didn’t go over too well considering all the disappointed feedback. So starting from scratch I crafted a new shiny zerker.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vJAQRAse3XnMdAlkidhAmhAElilfAz4BEAKAIxgcQL495Wd/uA-TpAOgAA7PEXGAA
SO no fast hands are you nuts fail build lol scrub. Well, turns out anet killed it with the new smash brawler. Camping weapons (at least axe) is possible thanks to smash brawler pumping out bursts in just 3 seconds.
Blood Reaction. Honestly I wish there was more traits like this for the berserker. This is the only trait that’s dedicated to direct damage AND its the only trait that has any synergy with a direct damage weapon. Why aren’t there other traits like this?? I mean its fine for me because I like axes. Its still decently effective without the axe trait but oh well. Maybe in that GM choices? That’d be a great place for power weapon/damage synergy. We don’t want 2 condi choices there.
So defense line to stay alive… but this isn’t a build explanation, it’s feedback! The rousing resilience buff was fantastic. It synergizes really well with the new skills, outrage and headbutt. I run with endure pain and balanced stance as well so its just stun breaks for dayZ. Really great stuff I always appreciate good synergy.
And onto headbutt. I really hope this is a tooltip error!! Its hitting hard. Real hard. I critted a glass mesmer for 6.9k. It’s base damage reads 1,755 and I have 246% crit damage
So somethings going on here. I’m critting light golems for over 5k.
Honestly I think that smash brawler COULD (maybe) make up for no fast hands baseline IF berserker had a power weapon or damage GM trait. Also, I’m not a fan of the CD on berserk mode. Whats up with that? Is my toon sedated or something? With the new CD on DoA, berserk mode could be balanced without one.
Overall I had a much better time on a power berserker than condi, and am looking forward to testing a gs/rifle build when gun flame isn’t bugged.
Ok so, gun flame (rifle berserker burst) NEEDS to be nerfed big time. Playing sPVP as a rifle warrior I can 2 shot pretty much everyone with it.
You also acknowledged that its bugged so why call for nerfs on something that hasnt been properly tested?
Back on topic, I tested a sword/torch LB carrion build with def/disc/berserker and found it very underwhelming. While I had great sustain, the rate of condi application outside of berserker mode was too low to be effective. Maybe if flames of war had a lower cd I could keep more burns up, but then what happens when I exhaust my skills and switch weapons? I have the LB, oh boy! So there’s fan of fire which is great up close and kind of useless from a distance and then there’s pin down which has a huge tell. Now I could trait for burning on LB auto but my berserker GM isn’t even effecting that so why drop fast hands? (it’d be great if I didn’t have to)!
While going berserk I loved the build. I could put a lot of pressure on points and do great damage with LB burst. Flaming flurry is a decent burst of burn at best, but effective when coupled with flames of war. The problem is berserker uptime is pretty low. Definitely less than 50%, and the introduction of the torch doesn’t make condi war viable, even with the new traits. So most of the time you’ll be ineffective. Condi war was silly pre HoT, right? Well it still is! (except when breserk(which isn’t as often as I’d like(no cd would be nice, which wouldnt be broken now that theres a cd on DoA))).
Oh and this condi berserker had no place in a team fight. It was kind of like a burn guard only less burns and no suppport. In summary – condi berserker was good when berserk, but due to core warrior mechanics, was near-useless outside of it. Torch is a bandaid on a bullet wound in terms of warrior condi application.
OK I’m looking forward to testing power! The traits aren’t really there, and gun flame is bugged, but rapid fire bursts and tons of ferocity gives me hope. Will post feedback.
EDIT: This is from a PvP perspective.
(edited by Spurrlock.3219)
“Lost cause” – shout about balance, shadowstepping you and all thieves on the map to lions arch if in pve, to spawn in spvp, and to Garrison in wvw.
Port to garri is OP doe and makes thieves useful. Sorry, but that use just doesn’t fit thematically and goes against purity of thief.
Chill has its niche uses. It can secure a stomp against against some professions (not mesmers, thieves, or eles) as their interrupt wont be available by the time you stomp. Its somewhat useful in melee builds to keep enemies close, but now that movement skills are no longer affected by cripple/chill, its kinda meh in that regard. People like to say that its effective against d/d eles after they do a water rotation, but if they really need to get back into water soon they’ll just pop a cantrip to cleanse the chill.
It’s really not that great.
Meh. Let’s invent a new work for it: I propose “fluzzom”.
Nah we should take a perfectly good existing word and misconstrue the meaning.
@OP at this point in the game you should just accept its improper use and move on. Its been used to describe the same thing for years. People get stuck in their ways. At this point I could care less when I see people talk about the dungeon meta.
Put together by some folks at reddit. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BmVqFcrjVp-9G7MTFNovrBCgwTtC9NUi5HMPCcNvg-g/edit
A good place to start would be a set of exotic gear.
Olrun’s right they pretty much are equidistant but it still proposes a problem in soloq. When I’m on red my team is always more concerned about the quarry and I don’t have the time to explain the strategical advantages of waterfall. Some more LoS block from the cart would be great.
Its sad because its true.
And here we have a pretentious thief scoffing at people because we didn’t completely write a weapon off as not viable without getting our hands on it first.
Stinja, the devs don’t care about theories. They want to hear about experiences. This silly thread completely lacks credibility.
