have been having same thing hapening on a new computer i just bought this week: not overheat, max temp anything cpu or gpu is getting up to is 69C…

power supply is 850W for a single GPU (GTX 780) so i dunno?

anyone know how u can tell if its your PSU thats failing?

(Very) casual WvW player here, so I just want a clarification on something someone posted earlier. They said that guilds don’t want randoms joining them because that “makes a blob”. What exactly is a “blob” and why is that a bad thing?

I can at least make an educated guess at what “rally bait” is.

Blob is a dirty word in EU. Subsequently most guild raids run untagged and smaller (typically no bigger than 20-25). Guilds want to fight other guilds here, and the fight becomes non existent when one has a much larger blob than the other sides. It’s about proving your teams skill vs same numbers. Every server blobs, but it feels like EU servers at all tiers at least try to get away from that mentality. Doesn’t always work though.

well not everyone: vizunah, deso, abbadons, jade sea for example dont try to get away from it at all really…

This nerf is clearly, very clearly targeted only at the spvp Hambow war. So why not make spvp ONLY changes Anet???? This is going to trash our wvw builds/effectiveness.

Because that would be ANet doing something smart and being reasonable for once, and god forbid they do that… its the warrior BUFFS that are “spvp only” (see offhand Axe), not the nerfs of course.

Their dev team is so outta touch they probably think we are playing with a 50% damage increase to whirling axe in pve / wvw from where we actually are or some such nonsense and wondering why everyone using hammer having forgotten that that particular buff only went into effect for spvp.

Regardless continued poor management decisions by Anet is kinda becoming old news and starting to bore a lot of people, especially as we move into the beta seasons for other up and coming MMOs.

Are some of you really in denial about how strong hammer has become?

In the last few weeks of WvW i see 80 percent hammer/longbow warriors, 20 percent everything else.

But why wouldn’t you as a warrior. The weapon does the best damage with the best cc out of all the weapons in the game. Aoe cc+ huge damage, on a 7 second timer. (when isn’t the adrenaline bar full?), not only that, if you miss the earthshaker, you get to try again and again until you land it every 7 seconds.

I switched from warrior to thief a month ago, yesterday another thief backstabbed me for 6k (about the normal), and I backstabbed him back for about the same. A hammer warrior earthshakker’d me for 4.5k, with a 3k follow up hit, yet my backstab did about 3-4k on him. Yet he also gets the bonus of it being a 2 second stun and aoe and using no resources if he misses and being repeatable in 7 seconds.

Even if I said ‘Could you make backstab aoe, 1 second stun, up every 10 seconds, use no initiative and not actually require being behind the opponent, but rather ground targetted’, There would be an uproar.

It wouldn;t be so bad if adrenaline took a little longer to build up, but we all know it pretty much up a few seconds after you enter a fight and then the F1 is back up every seven seconds. It’s like having a 6th ability on a 7 sec timer, an amazing 6th ability.

Who the heck uses longbow on a war in wvw large scale fighting?

See, people come complain on threads, and then make statements like that which show they have no idea what they are talking about.

News flash: None of the major guilds use longbows on their war builds AFAIK.

The hammer damage nerf seems to be the 1 thing that ANet got wrong in this patch: everything else is more than reasonable including moving UF up to mastery forcing people to not be able to get a defensive GM and UF at the same time while also getting discp or tactics GM. Yes UF was available since release but burst mastery wasnt and the cooldown on burst skills wasnt.

Likewise mace was only really used for its heavy stunning in spvp, the cast time will have virtually no effect on pve or large wvw combat.

The staggering blow nerf should have been to take away its mobility which is what caused grief in the last patch, or perhaps to nerf its damage by a more modest 10% since it WAS buffed in the last patch if it was indeed felt to be too OP now though i question why people should be allowed to stand in hammer range for prolonged periods of time and not get punished.

The earthshaker nerf essentially makes burst skills in general an underpowered class mechanic, earthshaker has been available with its current damage since launch of the game a year ago including periods of time when warriors were the laughing stalk of spvp, while powerful, it is what gives the slower hammer its utility as a weapon, forces people to dodge, and made it useful instead of just running GS for everything, it is in no way, shape, or form OP and this nerf is uncalled for.

I think i would support removing UF and BM traits entirely before taking away hammers base dmg. This wouldn’t kill hammers in PvE and would be a decent blow to WvW. I shouldn’t be forced to run full zerker to get decent dmg out of a hammer in PvE.

pretty much something like this, the raw dps loss to hammers is way over the top… i am saddened but not surprised with anets history in going overboard when they nerf something.

on another note i dont suppose we can convince yaal to un-nerf mainhand axe which was never really OP to begin with?

nah – warriors had hammer even back when they were free kills, its healing signet that got over-buffed and allowed for passive play to win…

hammer if anything is still super easy for a moderately skilled player to dodge and possibly even UP in the smaller 1v1 matchups, its the lack of skill it takes to sustain ourselves with healing signets passive thats really the OP thing about warriors.

US is strong against noobs who dont dodge its not strong against more skilled players, healing sig is strong against noobs AND strong players AND makes the warrior take less skill to play.

The proper nerf to warrior at this point if there has to be one is healing signet: 400 hp/sec is too much at base… 300hp/sec would be the extreme version of the nerf (and make all skilled warriors change to a different heal right away), any more and they might as well just delete the signet.

Unsuspecting foe – nah, this has been there for over a year without causing problems including during times when warrior was a free kill in spvp… its not the problem. With that said, if they want to remove it completely thats fine too, i just dont think they are gonna get as much bang for their buck here. The proper nerf if there needs to be one would be to move it to mastery.

Berserker’s stance: possibly, would leave warriors vunerable to conditions unless they use soldier runes shouts / warhorn trait.

just because something is popular does not mean that it is a good idea: without giving too much away here are a few fun facts about what some of the guilds are running:
1) my guild runs 25-30% wars in our wvw group maximum
2) warriors are not even our most populous class (only coming in at #2)
3) other good guilds tend to run pretty close to the same ratio or even less warriors: and while they can confirm or refute this on their own, a few examples include

a) Scnd tends to run about our class ratio more or less
b) VII seems to run even fewer warriors than we do

Quick question, i know you used to be able to take a soulbound legendary, transmute with a peice of white gear and make it account bound instead of soulbound… transmuting it back later, does anyone know if this still works with transmutation splitters?

Few suggestions how this mechanic could be improved so a mass res spam cant be abused like this, any single one of these would be a good fix:
1) put a diminishing returns on the number of times in a row the keep lord can be ressed before he becomes immune to ressing: say 10 times, if you cant win after 10 times, having your server run in like lemmings to die should not mean u “win” the fight.
2) make it so killing the keep lord gives a set amount of world score each time… say like 5 or 10 points
3) make it so waypoints cant be abused repeatedly during a keep fight such that the waypoint is shut down and dosent come back up while the enemy entire zone is inside your inner keep
4) just make it so resurrection skills dont work on the keep lord (boring but easiest to implement im sure)
5) make it so that ressing the keep lord works, but the cap dosent reset each time he is resurrected

Or if you truly want this to continue then:

6) if your going to do none of the above then at least: remove diminishing returns on loot for killing the same lemmings over and over (seriously, if we gonna stand in there for 1.5 hours killing em like bugs, at least dun take our loot away, its not our fault they keep hurling bodies at us)

Hello,
I’m sure we all can agree that the rifle is a dying breed, right? Here are some ideas that I think would make it a more viable tool.
1. Increase Bleeding Shot’s attack speed by 30-50% (Replace bleeds with vuln)
2. Aimed Shot immobilizes enemies for 1 second and applies 5 seconds of 50% movement impairment.
3. Volley always penetrates through enemies with or without the trait.
4. Brutal Shot no longer has a cast time (instant) and removes 1 boon from your enemy target and inflicts 4 vuln.
5. Rifle Butt will have you lunge (increasing the rang to 350) towards (or jump away from) the enemy and then butt them for a 1 second knock back.
6. Cast time of Kill Shot reduced to 1 second instead of 1 3/4 time.

Please let me know what you think of my ideas and feel free to pitch your own ideas here. Let’s get the devs attention, thanks!

answer for wvw: make projectile effects actually work by reducing the number of “blocks projectiles” and “reflects projectiles” fields…

problem with projectile effects is they do more damage on average to yourself and your team than the enemy thanks to all the reflect and block available (only takes going into 1 field and yer skrewed)

thankfully we warriors have other options (mele), its rangers that truely got the short end of the stick here…

all in all i dont see this changing much in the near future in wvw, would require an entire rework of multiple classes skills and abilities and then youd just wind up with the inevitable “omg kill shot so op now, what the hell i actually gotta dodge something now?, nerf nerf nerf!” posts for their trouble.

ya you MAKE charged quartz by converting regular quartz, just have 25 or more reglar quartz in inventory (from home node or AH) and go to any “place of power” skill point, you can do this once a day (resets with dailys)

regarding the 2 1 handers vs 2 hander thing:

actually the 2 hander users tend to get shaft more:
1) classes that use 2 handers with the 1 exception of an elementalist tend to use both weapon sets and often the secondary set is just as important as the primary to a good player
2) 2 handers get the shaft on sigils, only 1 sigil per 2 hander

i play a warrior and use a hammer + sword/warhorn, if i didnt already have all of those as legendaries (thankfully i do), id be looking at having to get 3 ascended pieces! (having a 2 hander isnt as much a help here as ya might think given that we spend up to 50% of our time in s/w with our current build)

First tip from a fellow necro..don’t play a minion necro and expect to win in the majority of fights.

I advise you to check the current Necro meta builds that can easily destroy warriors.

As for WvW, necros are screwed due to condi reduction food. Has nothing to do with warriors.

Except necros also have access to +condi duration food..

which completely negates the condi reduction food 100%

Here you go, this is why the build is OP, it can wreck people in 1v2 and 1v1 settings. He casually made it home even when 4 people got to him. Im sorry but this is plain OP.

The biggest offenders are signet of healing and poultry soup.

This needs a nerf

oh we talking wvw then?

you could just:
1) use rare vegie pizza (cheaper than the soup wars have to use and completely negates its effects)
2) dodge the stun
3) use a stun break
4) stop playing upleveled characters: seriously, anyone can kill an upleveled character, they take like 2x the damage

lake is a huge waste of space, sure there are a few people who enjoy underwater fighting but the vast majority of players avoid it like the plague… typically 2 large groups wont even engage one another in the lake.

players who are carrying banners are kinda boring, when i hit them, they dont hit back very hard…

on a more serious note: banners would be decent if we could say spawn them or carry them on our back as opposed to not being able to use our weapon while carrying them, as they are right now they either:
a) sacrifice mobility
or
b) sacrifice players to cary them instead of participating in the fight… since lets be honest, banner ability damage and utility is a joke

dont get me wrong, they theoretically could do fairly decently in seige fights since the mobility loss is negligable as your fighting in a fixed area and if anyone backs up significantly they lose the choke point, cap point etc that they were fighting over, but in open field they are really lackluster…

Someone will jump on here and tell you that they are the best and thats the only effective way to play a warrior. Truth is they used to be the only effective way to play a warrior. Since then warriors got a lot of new and nice things. You still play a shout warrior the build hasn’t changed and you cant use most of the new stuff warriors got. So I say its not the best anymore. Its still works but thats all there is to be said about it.

I actually want to say its not as good as it used to be. If you didn’t trait shouts to give adrenaline, you could get berserkers power or heightened focus. Not anymore. Those were the only traits that helped the build do damage, now it hits like a wet noodle.

Who is scared of a shout warrior on the field its a free bag in my eyes.

probably still is the best way for most warriors to go in wvw…

built properly earthshaker with a shout heal hammer build hits for an AVERAGE of just shy of 25k total damage consistently (assuming u hit 5 people), not really wet noodlish in my experience

for some reason though there seems to be this odd fad with running pure pvt gear on a warrior right now, though i cant for the life of me figure out why.

banners are fun: they require the warrior casting them and his raid group to stand still to be useful. This is very fun for me as i hate having to chase people down to kill them!. standing still also gives our ranged classes abilities plenty of time to work on you too!

If i run dogged march and melandru anf lemongrass i have -98% reduction. If the enemy runs vegi pizza its down to -58%. Few months back this math was being done multiplicative resulting in condition duration being worthless vs condition reduction but it has been fixed. Example a necro with 30 in its power line and vegi pizza has 70% duration to all condis, add runes or weapons and you can push 100% to all condis. This means im not immune to soft cc anymore its actuslly a wash.

This is why if you remove lemongrass you need to remove vegi pizza.

Hmm yeah agree indeed… (didnt know that) i saw old posts complaining the +% issnt good againt -% conditition..

remove that vegi pizza also.. freaking condition meta!! :-P

wait, do you have a source? It doesn’t make sense it’s all being done additively for some reason.

Thinking logically…140% condition duration does nothing when it’s negated by -98% condition duration.

Sorry, that would end up with 42% Condition Duration left, they changed it awile ago so it subtracted from the additictive, not the base.

Ya its 42% remaining not 98% of the 140%… basically if u got rare veggie pizza you negate the lemongrass entirely (except the 70 vit and 10 exp from it), yes pizza is expensive, lemongrass is even more so

I just posted this in another thread: WvW isn’t supposed to balanced. It isn’t made for 1v1, 1v2, 3v3, etc. fights. It’s made for small groups (5-10) and zergs, at which point your… lemongrass is basically a wash.

Ya balancing wvw for small group fights seems like a bad idea…. lemongrass is ok dont get me wrong but most of the top guilds continue to use ye same ole soldier runes and shout builds…

So ya im not seeing where lemongrass needs to get toned down…

Also necros not warriors are probably in highest demand at the moment at the moment, lemon grass is cool, infinite target fear is cooler and they dont have the staff eles squishy drawbacks.

lets be honest here (i used to play on BG by the way) typically you have 70 people around you in tier 1 NA, and the only difficult fight youll face is vs 70 enemies… i dont think i have to tell you what happens when 140 people decide to go to the same spot but ill say it anyhow for everyone else’s benefit (who might not be playing in Tier 1 NA): SKILL LAG!

in otherwords soldier runes are useless here cause your shouts dont go off! nothing but your 1 attack does in fact!

therefore the passive melandru are better in the skill lag situation

Disclaimers:

If they’ve actually managed to fix the skill lag in t1 NA since i left then that would be a different story.

Also note that my advice does not apply to any other teir or matchup nessicarily (it is based on the assumption that skill lag and blobbing are predominating the matchup).

The big thing with thieves is that inside of a large group their usefulness declines greatly, our guild group usually only wants 2 or 3 Max and to use as scouts/yak killers, once engaged in a big fight they don’t do much compared to other classes

And in fairness their survivability in larger groups is abysmal especially if your running inti very heavy combat situations (looking to engage even larger groups), im fairly sure my guild would LOVE to find a thief who could run with us, unfortunately we have yet to find a single one who can consistently survive long enough!

I see a lot of talk recently about improving Warrior class mechanics. Some people have suggested additional F# skills for using adrenaline, some have suggested making Fast Hands a built-in ability.

But what if we got a 3rd weapon set we could swap in combat? Engies and Elementalists already have a similar mechanic with kits and attunement. Everyone else gets the same 2 weapon set options. Why not give Warriors an extra set, since they are supposed to be the weapon specialists in the game.

Would be very nice, but i doubt Anet will do it.

I know that rifle builds in WvW is frowned apon by some. My question is whether or not a rifle warrior build or long bow ranger would be better for long distance I call it sniping. Its what I enjoy doing hamming the back end of a enemy zerg.

If your planning on zoning in to wvw: use anything before a ranger.

Hopefully you will reach the conclusion quickly on your warrior that the sniping does on average more damage to yourself and allies than the enemy and join the rest of us in melee.

Unfortunately projectile attacks in WvW are not just bad, they are so bad in fact that they usually help the enemy more than they hurt them! If your lucky your projectiles get blocked by a shield effect and do no damage, if your not they reflect them back on to you and your allies!

Hi! In order to get some fresh air after my main’s build got smooshed, I decided to go ahead and finish leveling my warrior. As I’m approaching 80 I’ve been tinkering with builds and this is what I’ve arrived at: http://tinyurl.com/os5n2rr

This is to be used for ZvZ. I’m on a t1-ish server, and I’m currently running with my guild that fields 15-20 a night along with whatever pugs that decide to tag along. We typically face zergs with similar numbers or more.

Some questions I have about it:

I’ve looked at other ZvZ builds and literally every one I’ve seen has been using melandru or soldier runes. Is hoelbrak just flat out a bad idea?

Does Empower Allies apply to me as well as the people around me?

I’ve heard a lot of people say that endure pain is bad. If you feel this is true, what would you suggest to put in place of it? I was thinking of: stomp, signet of stamina, or shake it off.

And lastly, healing signet. I know it was buffed recently and more people run it now. But for a warrior with 300 healing power, would it be better than healing surge?

Thanks for any advice!

endure pain: depends on how aggressive your commander is and how tightly the enemy clumps up, can be good when comboed with whirling axe if your on the front end of a mele train and want to take the enemies mele train head on… if either you or your enemy are not running a mele train then its usefulness drops off dramatically

healing: depends on the time length wise of your average engagement, the longer it is the more you care about the raw heal per second and less about how much you can heal quickly, in general though surge is still pretty good

Shouts: if your going to run shouts, run FGJ, SIO, 30 points into tactics for shout heals and soldier runes, if your not going to run shouts, dont run 30 points into tactics and run melandru runes instead, do not try to mix and match. running fear me would also be nice with the shout build but its tough now days to run it sucessfully unless u got alot of guardians giving you alot of stability arround

Warriors in ZvZ shouldn’t even be concerned with damage in their builds because every other light profession heavily out damages you from a range. Warriors can’t fufill the DPS role.

No offense intended…

This seems to be a prevalent (and erroneous opinion) among a lot of people who are ironically trying to emulate setups from guilds who may or may not share their view on the warriors role.

The fact that we use shout heals and condi cleanse on shouts does not in any way shape or form mean that the warriors are not also the core of the focused DPS in guild raid groups.

I think you might be surprised at the gear some of the top guilds are running on their warriors. I can tell you its not pure 100% PVT gear… And if all the warriors in my guild tried to show up to a raid in pure PVT gear our commander would NOT be happy.

Am I correct? Just curious before I invest badges and coins into this. I do see how this brings the most utility and value to a group as a warrior.

Hammer s/w + shout heals /soldier runes is very popular at the moment… but as for the best build it depends on what everyone around you is running and what everyone else is doing.

Best stats on your gear also depends on what everyone around you is running AND how good you are at minimizing the damage you take.

Oh and Id advise against leg specialist in any build right now, while it used to be great, as with all decent things on warrior they nerfed the crap outta it patch before last, hits 1 target only with hammer shock right now i believe, there are at least 2 better traits you could put in that slot.

Terrible idea: theres a reason many wvwers will not play spvp, making wvw more like spvp with its gear limitations is an aweful idea.

I like my gear customization, i like my particle effects, i like the fact that putting in the effort to get the gear and do the dailys gives me a tiny advantage!

Dont wanna give all the answers but do want to point out some of the more glaring issues:

1) for your build (and most builds) balanced stance > dolyak signet, even if it is traited its still a 48 sec cool down compared to 40 sec on stance. If the passive effect is up (rune not being used) your group is already dominating the fight and you shouldn’t be taking massive damage, typically though in a zerg vs zerg, you’ll be popping stability almost straight away. so the difference is the cool down timer.

2) healing signet: unfortunately even with the trait active or passive heal per second from this is << heal from mending… this holds especially true if your build will be running cleansing ire (when u take damage, adren fills up, so its full when u need the heal).

3) If your going to run 2 or more shouts, run soldiers runes and shout heals, if your running less than 2 shouts, dont run soldiers runes and shout heals.

4) Death from above: how often do you find yourself actually killing players or winning a battle off of this? If you really want to defend a gate, aren’t there more effective ways to do it? Are you sure you cant find something better to do with the 10 trait points that would increase your effectiveness in combat?

That’s amusing because many Rangers would argue that Warriors have superior ranged skills with their Rifle.

That healing per second is assuming you are using your heal every time it is off cooldown. This is not the case.

Additionally, let’s look at warrior heals … heal / (cast + cooldown)

  • 272 hps : Healing Surge w/ 3 Adrenaline: 8,440 / 31 = 272 … and fill adrenaline
  • 221 hps : Healing Surge w/ 2 Adrenaline: 6,840 / 31 = 221 … and fill adrenaline
  • 214 hps : Mending: 5,560 / 26 = 214 … and remove conditions
  • 192 hps : Healing Signet w/ Trait: 3,320 / 17.25 = 192 … and 200 hps passive
  • 190 hps : Healing Surge w/ 1 Adrenaline: 5,880 / 31 = 190 … and fill adrenaline
  • 169 hps : Healing Surge w/ 0 Adrenaline: 5,240 / 31 = 169 … and fill adrenaline
  • 156 hps : Healing Signet w/o Trait: 3,320 / 21.25 = 156 … and 200 hps passive

As you can see, Healing Signet with a single 10 point trait is a very good heal without its passive, beating out Healing Surge unless it is used with 2+ pips of adrenaline.

Do the math, then talk :-)

ok my actual numbers with 150 heal power are healing signet is either a passive 215 hps OR a 3470 heal per 16 sec (216.875 heal/sec)

surge at full adren (which you should always be using it at) is 8590 per 30 sec (286.333 heal/sec)

and umm, yes in large scale wvw battles im using heal every time its off cooldown period… In fact im spaming it before its off of cooldown so it goes off right away!

200 heal per sec is horrific at level 80, especially when our 30 sec cool down heal does nearly 300 heal per sec…

The recent patch unfortunately failed to address the 1 weakness of the class that continues to make us next to useless in SPvP and has in WvW since the omnomberry pie nerf: lack of legitimate sustainability in combat.

No im not talking about berserker’s or rifle builds, im talking about for knights and soldiers builds.

A ranger is not supposed to be designed for heavy mele combat like a guardian or a warrior is. Their superior ranged skills are designed to keep them away from having 3 or 4 people focusing high dps mele skills on them at once. A warrior does not have this option especially in wvw since we are primarily a heavy mele class.

The fact that guardians do it better is OK i suppose, but the fact that thieves, eles, and necros all of whom are supposed to be wearing medium / light armor can do it better than a warrior is down right a shame.

Honestly even in WvW it feels like the warrior class as a whole is missing… a Monk.

Hammer >> Greatsword in wvw, infact id go so far as to say GS is nonviable in more than 1v1 fights at the moment.

Hammer > Greatsword in high level FOTM, AC

Hammer ~= Greatsword in most other dungeons

Greatsword > Hammer in world pve grinding, HOTW and COF.

Using a legendary in wvw may or may not draw extra hate… (I honestly dont care since if it does im happy to play the tank role with 3.5k toughness at least in my build)

Legendary wise sunrise looks better than jugs imo (Have both), if you feel jugs looks better then id get it as youll be using it more as the game goes on.

actually true, guardians can pretty easily get 460ish/sec in thier healing with just their 6…

The ONLY way to do this with a warrior right now requires you to be shout heal build (30 points into tactics) and have ALL your utility slots taken up by shouts.

Of course this may have somthing to do with why this is the only viable build in wvw at the moment.

traited warriors have four healing skills (6,7,8,9)
and same amount of condition removals,

or healing skill, perma regen and two condition conversions in a different spec

its just they all dont fit into the GC mindzerg

dont get me wrong: hammer shout does fine with a guild backing it up in wvw, my complaints are:
1) its the ONLY viable build (except for banner warriors as a niche 1 of) for a warrior in wvw at the moment and only with groups,
2) if your NOT running it your a sub par warrior and heavily relying on
3) they nerfed the only other build option we had into nonexistance (omnomberrie pies)
4) most of us didnt roll a warrior to be a heal bot.

no, just because someone followed the super mega zerg around capping and refusing to defend/upgrade for a few weeks to farm wxp doesn’t make them better then someone who has a lower rank but may have actually been doing useful stuff.

Having some wvw experience is better than not its true, but a support class with a low number of kills or a scout / camp sniper / yak slapper are far more valuable than another aoe glass cannon glory hound any day o the week regardless of how much supply they may be able to cary.

Hi there,
I am liking the world exp, but I can’t help but think that everything you gain from it is useless. 5% more/less damage from guards, less damage from siege, all seem really trivial.

In my opinion it would make WvW even better if we had some type of character progression.

Things like:
5% more/less damage to other people in WvW
5% more casting speed
5% increase recharge time
5% more life,toughness,power,healing power, etc etc

There are tons of options that I think would be cool to have.

You could even set it up like a trait tree, have all kind of new passive skills, but WvW only.

Anyways just my 2 cents, something like this would make WvW a lot more enjoyable for me.

Absolutely not, the fact that 1v1 duels are preserved with the current system or 20v20 gvg is a major point… Also would be highly unfair to newer players.

Even more grinding requirements and a barrier to entry is NOT what WvW needs right now.

I agree with character progression and would like to see some thigngs added in such as:
1) ways to get ascended gear using badges
2) additional dungeon or world oriented ascended gear added in slowly over time (guild ascended gear punishes people who are in guilds that dont do as many guild missions (because their guilds spend all their time in wvw) because the only other way to get the trinkets is ultra slow and requires a month long grind each)

The lack of viable sustainability on a warrior has indeed pigionholed us into 1 build in wvw. It used to be we were able to get around this by using omnomberry pies in WVW only to make it so we wernt required to put 30 points into tactics to have a chance of being self reliant but Anet decided to nerf it.

As it stands right now 30 points into tactics and 15 points into defense is mandatory if you want to be self reliant and actually benifit your team rather than be a drain on resources in wvw.

In the pug group there is a derth of heavy support going on so any build other than this one will fail you invariably.

On the other end of the spectrum you have competitive guilds: they have support and are aware of the need for everyone to pull their weight which is in general why the best guilds run mandatory specs, and those mandatory specs are almost always invariably hammer/shout builds for their warriors (perhaps 1 banner warrior thrown in).

The irony of the whole situation is that by “getting rid of the holy trinity” by “not having a dedicated healer class” Anet has instead wound up with people who DONT WANT to play dedicated support and roll a class that sounded as far from it as they could find (Warrior) forced into playing dedicated support.

They could fix this with some trait that would be close to what omnomberrie pies did.

But honestly I think their biggest failure was in trying to reinvent the wheel in the first place, they shoulda just made monks the 9th class, let people who genuinely wanted to be support be support, and not accidently forced people who didnt want to do it into it.

As of right now (and since release) NO, you do not encounter DR in wvw.

Events do not appear to cause DR, and even if you had been doing a bunch of events in say Orr and had encountered DR there, the DR from world events does not cary over to wvw. Before i played WvW on an all the time basis, i would farm Orr until encountering DR then proceed to WvW and farm there for a bit to let the DR cool down.

If you remove the AOE damage cap you gotta remove the AOE boon/heal cap as well to keep things fair.

On the other hand AOE offense >> AOE defense in this game so doing this likely WILL have the desired effect of breaking up oversized zergs: 5 wont be able to beat 30, but 15 may be able to beat 30!
