Yes, they are bugged. I noticed this instantly 2 months ago during the Sept patch, posted it and no one has cared until you posted this thread. See these two bugs:

SotW = Signet of the wild.
Also, if you trait into Beastmastery and go for Natural Healing, it will also also regen AF slowly even out of combat.
I’m bumping this thread because i want more discussion about spirits. maybe if i can dredge up enough interest int he matter we can get them fixed.
By ‘fixed’ do you mean the actual bugs that plague spirits at the moment? With no confirmation by anyone and no one looking into it, I doubt these will ever by fixed. They were introduced in the September patch.

Spirits are pretty lackluster at the moment, even more due to these two bugs.

Beta characters (from BWE1 and 2) were wiped for this upcoming BWE3
Spirits should first be bug fixed before discussing changes. I’ve posted bug reports here and here
After this, since spirits are now made to be static I believe that they should no longer be made affected to knockback+launch. One of the reasons they made this change was because of Spirits Unbound, with this trait now removed they should also undo this.
Since the Sept 29 patch, ranger spirit buffs do not prioritize player characters.
Before the patch: Spirit buffs would be applied to player characters (and team members) first before any other entities (Ranger pets, other spirits, NPCs, etc.)
After the patch: Spirit buffs are applied to any entity around them, including other spirits, ranger pets, etc.
Problem: Due to the 5 target cap, this causes spirit buffs to not be applied to all party members in a 5 person group. This is especially true if you equip 4 spirits (i.e. Water, Frost, Stone, and Storm). In the worst case, these 4 spirits will apply buffs to each other first then to 2 other entities if in range, instead of your 5 person party first.

I have a specific set of gear and food that gives me 100% boon duration.
Using the grandmaster trait Nature’s Vengeance where spirits give boons:
After the latest patch, Frost, Storm, and Water spirits had their boon duration buffed with the GM trait from 1s to 3s. Even though the tooltip correctly states that boon duration should be 6 seconds (3sec * 100% boon duration), the actual applied boon is still 3 seconds.
This bug only affects Frost and Storm spirits, Water spirit gets correctly applied for 6 seconds.
Why not give Heal as one a 1/2 second cast time instead?
It’s already been a 1/2 second cast time when you use it underwater (bugged or not since launch/beta when it used to be 1/2 second on land)

Tested and still bugged. We’ll see if anything changes Monday.
Looks like this is being overlooked in all the patch hooplah, I’d hate to see this wait till the september 2015 balance patch
Has anyoned re-tested with the new patch/hotfix that came out yesterday?
Mesmer stealth is different than ‘thief’ stealth, therefore when you use ‘Sic Em’ it will reveal debuff the mesmer but they will still be able to stealth. For example, if you use sic em when they’re casting mass invis, they will still invis.
It’s one of my gripes about the skill. According to the bug report thread I made it’s intended and not a bug.
It removes them at the end of the roll for whatever reason.
That’s why, I just tested it. If for whatever reason it’s interrupted before you land then it doesn’t remove anything, making it unreliable.
Has anyone else had the issue where lightning reflexes removed no conditions on usage when using Survival of the Fittest? It’s happened three times now in WvW, in one case I had 10 stacks of bleeding from a Mesmer duel and I use LR but It didn’t remove the stacks. I’m also traited in WS for 20% recharge reduction in survival skills.
One of the biggest changes i’ve seen in the patch is actually pretty interesting for the BM Build
Pets no longer have an initialization time after being summoned, where they would stand around doing nothing.
now this might not seem major, until you realize this instantly makes Zypher’s speed in the BM Trait line a lot better.
Before using that trait was pointless, as pets basically stood there for 2 seconds or so wasting most of that traits potential.
However with this change (and I did test it) they no longer do it…This makes pets like the River and Marsh Drake…Much Much better… as soon as you swap they’ll fire all their F2 at the target for some rather nasty burst damage.
So make sure you guys look over that trait when ya test… as that’s a huge boon in some cases.
“as soon as you swap they’ll fire all their F2 at the target for some rather nasty burst damage.”
You mean after the 2.5 second windup casting time, right…?
Try harder. You mean the 1.5 second reduced to ~1s cast time with quickness?
It seems that pet healths are bugged at least for non-80 zones as far as I can tell (I haven’t tested thoroughly in all 80 zones but it may be in-line to anecdotal posts where pets are not lasting as long)
Example: Go to Malchors Leap and get scaled down to level 78/80. Equip an ursine (bear), it will have arould 25k health even with no traiting to the BM line. If you trait fully into the BM line (6 points) it will still have 25k health with no effects.
Now go to Cursed shore (level 80 map), you’ll now see that the bear will have double the amount of health even with 0 in BM. Now if you trait into BM it will affect the total health and bring it up to ~53k fully into BM.
I use bears as an example here since they have the largest health disparity.
It doesnt make sense that your pets health is halved when you’re scaled down from 80 to 78.
I also haven’t tested it with all pets, it doesnt seem to affect cats (confirm?), only bears as far as I could tell.
I tested some more. Pets have 3 health classes, High (bears), Medium (drakes, pigs, moas, etc.), low (cats, birds,etc.).
Edit: Upon further testing, the ones that seem to be affected the most are pets with high and medium health, pets with low health are not affected.
Traiting into BM will affect the total health of pets with low health. Pets with medium/high health are not affected by traiting into BM.
You guys can test this south of Dwayna’s Temple in Malchors Leap, where you get scaled from 79 / 80.

There were many great things from the GW1 ranger, specifically stances and preparations which didn’t make it into GW2.
Idk, whirl finisher and ice combo field maybe?
He’s talking about Main Hand Axe, skill 3 (Winters Bite). It has a 3s chill.
oh so theyre using utility slots on defenses but that doesnt count as speccing defensively in your twisted world
and each of those classes only has condi removal traits in defense lines…
Cleansing Fire on fire line….
And they have the option of using utility skills instead of much more expensive traiting sacrifices, an option rangers don’t have.
You’re just dense.
no im not, youre just mad that nothing looks good at face value when you dont have all the information and too stubborn to keep the kittening at a minimum for 3 weeks.
Keep fooling yourself. I’ve been here since beta and rangers know better than to fall for the hype. Our “big patch” turned out to be an underwater combat improvement patch.
December 2012, never forget.
I agree, all of these GM traits are severely underwhelming compared to other classes.
To me it seems like most of our traits are things the Ranger needs without being GM, where in other classes there are seen as options to diversify their builds.
What about the Chill condition as a whole?
That’s up to you to make the final judgement.
Wouldn’t causing bosses to attack and move 66% slower be a HUGE help to the team? For example, Mossman throws his axe less often, Lornarr (Ice fractal boss) uses his icicle attack less (the one where he warps), and Archdiviner wont be as big an kitten?
So what’s stopping you from using chill then along with providing a party-wide buff? If anything you’re making a stronger (but very miniscule) case for bringing frost. You’re fairly stationary with these bosses and you don’t have to move. This is one of the counterpoints that you gave, that your spirit is on cooldown and you have a long recharge time because you decide to use its active, yet, the combat scenarios that you gave here all involve stationary interactions.
If you want to plop your frost spirit right on top of the boss then go for it, just be prepared to have it 1-2 shotted fairly quickly to try to get chill to go off. Also, a 5~ second chill on a 40 second cooldown is terrible. Chill in general isn’t that useful in PvE.
15% is too random and unreliable. I thought GW2 was skill-based?
Exactly. During their friday livestream they discussed sigils and runes and how their design philosophy has ‘changed’ to have these types of RNG elements to be more predictable and effective. This joke of a grandmaster trait, unless changed, is a 180 on that philosophy.
15% to block ALL attacks, not just incoming projectiles may be worth being a grandmaster trait.
I hate to say it but one of the ways you can tell you have a good or bad ranger in your FotM group is this. No Spotter/Frost, no group. Everyone has to contribute, hate it or not and this is how we do it. I frequent 40s/50s fractals and if you don’t have these two then you’re out.
Why would you want to use the frost spirit active? For a measly 5s chill?
Here’s a protip: if your party is moving from where you casted frost onto another area then switch your frost skill to anything else then re-equip frost spirit. This kills the spirit and puts it on a ~20s cooldown and lets you cast it again at the new location.
Most of the time, depending on the fractal, your party is dpsing something or a mob of some sort and they’re fairly stationary. Killing your spirit and re-equiping it will almost guarantee it to be recharged to recast in the new location.
Especially with the upcoming crit damage 10% damage reduction, I think frost spirit would be pretty essential for any high-level fractals group given its ~7.5% party dps.

All my VO turned off. For some reason it automatically changed my Voice language to Spanish during the previous patch.
Is there a shark animation when you throw the spear after using the 4 block skill (press 4 twice)?
Apparently Allie confirmed these notes were a fake, made by some usurper. Guard will thankfully remain as it should be.
I’m sorry, but do you remember the last 3 or so times patch notes were ‘leaked’ and were regarded as fake? Yea, they ended up being real.
I wish to bump this report since there has been no official word on the issue. The same behavior still occurs, is this intended or a bug?
All pet related traits that buff the pets are not applied when out of combat. Get into combat and you’ll see their stats change. (this applies to F2 skills for your #2 and #3 concerns)
I’m using a Windows 7 64-bit desktop, I’ve been able to purchase Gems in the past but not as of last week when I tried.
I’ve been trying to buy gems for over a week now and no matter what credit card I use or even Paypal I receive an error message that simply says “Failed.”
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I’ve been in contact with support and all they’ve done is had me provide my billing information and asked me to try again in 48 hours and I still receive the same error.
If I have to go through all of these hoops to buy gems then perhaps this is a sign that Anet doesn’t want my money?
Same goes with Guardians

Because of this they can spam dodge-roll healing

Okay, I found the bug. it’s not related with 2H Mastery.
It can be a bug since a tooltip isn’t updated, or a stealth buff which may make the longbow alot more viable!
You do receive 3.75s of Fury per Longbow hit though! (50% chance)
is LB bugged?? each attack give you 1-2 sec of fury.
What traits do you have because I’m not seeing this.
Probably more likely that it is a difference between mesmer stealth and thief stealth. They have a different visual effect and they do not stack.
Although they won’t stack, stealth should be stealth and therefore Revealed debuff should prevent the mesmer from becoming invisible. It’s happened three times in WvW where I’ve just used “Sic Em” on a mesmer and he proceeds to use mass invisibility and hides his entire party with the debuff still counting down.
I’m not saying it shouldn’t work for the entire party, it should all except those with the debuff.
When I use the ranger skill “Sick Em” to apply Revealed to a mesmer, the mesmer is still able to stealth via the skill Mass Invisibility. Mass Invisibility elite seems to ignore the Revealed debuff.
It works, I’ve used it to transfer around legendaries but it’s not cheap (300 gems / splitter)
The new builds aren’t public in fear of further nerfs.
…or is it removing the bleeds one applies on mobs? oO
Oh god…. someone please test this… i wouldn’t be surprised if this actually happens…
I wouldn’t doubt it, remember how “Chomp” on pet Drakes used to heal the enemy instead of the pet for almost half a year after release?
This recent patch Elite Supplies was ‘fixed’ to increase the range on the Mortar. Although we get a measly 100 range with this trait, when the Elite Supplies trait is equipped the Mortar skills are replaced with the pre-patch recharge times, meaning…
The 1 skill recharges in 2 seconds, not 1 second.
The 4 skill recharges in 30 seconds, not 20 seconds.
Equipping Elite Supplies is now counter intuitive until this bug is fixed.
For those who aren’t aware
Ranger Underwater Lightning Reflexes

Engineer Rocket Boots
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5kRFs7T9qE
Instead of disabling the use of this utility due to it being bugged, why don’t they change the functionality of it (only for underwater) to function like lightning reflexes does for Rangers (underwater) if they don’t want to fix the bug?

Search and Rescue does not work on defeated players.
If a player is downed, you use Search and Rescue, and the player dies, your pet will resurrect the defeated player. I’ve used it countless times as so.
Did anyone catch the Search & Rescue Nerf that’s incoming?
@ 53:40 in the SotG video
+1. I’m in for BM5 trait buff in duration.
EDIT: I did a little more testing. 2 second quickness is no longer viable if you rely on pet damage. The freshly switched pets takes too long to initiate the first attack and by the time it lands a second attack, the quickness is already gone. (Tested using canines and felines).
Right. Before I also took advantage of quickness to speed up their F2 skills upon switching, they would almost cast them instantly and now there’s a clear lag between switch and cast with 50% quickness.
I just tested, Zealot’s Fever Quickness duration is still 3s. You can no longer pop quickness and complete the channeling of the 5 skill in one pass….
Patch is now active. BM Zephyr’s Speed was not ‘ninja’ put in line with other skills, meaning it’s still at 2s quickness.
If you want to have a revive-centric build in addition to some defence then the (only) rune set you should consider is the Superior rune of Mercy
Yes, this needs to be increased by at least 1 second. Hopefully it’s an undocumented change, I will test if they buffed it correctly when the patch hits.
Oh and it’s Zealot’s Ferver not Fury
Just wanted to get an answer if this is intended.
If you want to get an answer then why not change the thread title to something less provocative as “Ranger got nerfed?” and instead use something such as “BM Zephyr’s Speed Trait needs improvement”
