They will once they decide on the best way to sell them via gems.

You told me that if I can make 100 Gold doing “A”, then everyone should make 100 Gold doing “B”, C", or “D”. You want the wealth to be distributed equally, thus eliminating the different class of players. Anet (the State) would provide for and represent the interests of the Players (working class).

Yes, based on effort.

But people kept saying: “Can’t do that because inflation in gold value and such”

So I suggested something completely different. Something incapable of hurting TP Players potential profits, something that doesn’t take anybody’s wealth away, something that doesn’t cause inflation. Something that would have no meaningful impact on ANet profits. Something that does all those things and yet allows everyone to “win”, whatever their given value of “win” is.

But everyone ignored it, so I said “kitten it” and went back to arguing extremes, because that’s all any of you actually care about or focus on.

It was ignored? Life just isn’t fair is it gene.

Do you feel taking away from someone who followed the rules. Invested their time. Is acceptable?

No, but if life isn’t fair, then that doesn’t matter. When you say life isn’t fair, and you have no intention of trying to make life fair, then anything goes.

It isn’t “life isn’t fair to only the poor”. It’s “life isn’t fair”. That means life isn’t fair for everyone, even the rich.

The TP isn’t taking gold away from people without their consent. Your example doesn’t apply to it.

The Meat Wagon.7194

How does saying it doesn’t need to be fair validate that?

Because when you say life isn’t fair, what you’re saying is that fairness doesn’t have to be considered. Fairness is meaningless for everyone. The rich are part of everyone, so it’s just as valid to have unfair things happen to them as it is to have unfair things happen to the poor. So since life is unfair, it’s perfectly valid to take gold from the rich and hand it to the poor without the consent of the rich.

The TP isn’t taking gold away from people without their consent. Your example doesn’t apply to it.

@Gene Archer

Why does it need to be fair?

Because the moment you say it doesn’t need to be fair, you validate the idea that it’s okay for gold to be straight up ripped from rich players and handed out to poor players.

In other words, see my comment below.

then we have to deal with words like fairness. Which all I want to say is fair shmair, lifes not fair get used to it. and lets be honest, we may not like it. But that is the way it is.

You’re right, life isn’t fair. So since life isn’t fair, there’s nothing wrong with just straight up taking gold from the rich and handing it the poor, much less making it so TP barons lose the ability to make massive amounts of gold. So forget my suggestion, let’s just do one of those.

How does saying it doesn’t need to be fair validate that?

That’ll I can agree with. If we ever get access to some hard data, we’ll be in a much better place to say the least.

Please explain to me what your process would be for proving your theories if you had the data.

Start by seeing if there was a wealth gap, how large if present, and if it was growing. Then I could go from there.

How would you define the wealth gap?

This has more or less been something that i didn’t like about gw2’s direction since before they released it. Buying stuff from the gemstore has no meaning. I preferred the reward system of gw1 a lot more than gw2 which is probably why I didn’t take breaks from gw1 whereas I have taken breaks totally 1 year from gw2.

Taxes and the listing fee are not the same thing as bidding or setting a price for an item. Anet allows 1c increments on those so it is clearly a conscious design decision.

The way something is, is never an argument for a conscious design decision. I welcome a dev to say otherwise.

So they didn’t design it that way? Somebody better let anet know.

To anet it is negligible otherwise taxes and listing fee would be a fixed rate.

How does it not make sense? If I sell something for 1 Copper less, the tax from the listing fee is rounded to the nearest 1 Copper. Last nite, I posted the same item with two different prices that were 1 Copper apart. The listing fee was 20 Silver and 19 Silver 99 Copper respectively.

So tell me again how 1 Copper isn’t negligible if the taxes can account for this?

Just so you can understand what negligible mean, even though I feel like I should created a new thread for this.

The following are examples of what is and is not negligible.

When I list an Item for 20 copper I pay 1 copper in listing fees, 1 copper here is very relevant here and is not negligible. When you list an item for 4 gold the listing fee will be 20 silver. The reason it is 20 silver and not 1 copper like the previous sale is because in this case 1 copper is negligible. For a 10 gold item, I would change my listing every time I was undercut by 1 copper because a 1 copper listing fee is negligible.

To you it is negligible, but not to somebody else. You are using a subjective measure of what negligible is.

As you resorted from discussing 10g items to discussing copper value, while still failing to state 1 compelling reason why a 1% price difference for undercutting and more volatile markets that it results in benefit the general player base more than the status quo, i dont think there is any shame in leaving this topic.

This is the compelling reason…

There is no reason not undercut a big ticket item by one copper. This effectively creates a stack where the last item list will be the first to sell. This goes against the intended trading post queue of the first item list should be the first to sell.

… and what better reason than going against the intent of the developers

Is that their intent though? They have had 1.5 years to change it if it were their intent. I think the tp is working how they want it to. Why fix it if it isn’t broken?

So, to sum: In some zones where the system doesn’t matter, we’ll get to play with people from our server. In overflow maps, which most servers don’t have now, we won’t get to play with people from our own server. So it seems to me there’s a net loss of playing with people from our own server.

What are you talking about?

First of all, there won’t be any overflow maps anymore. Secondly the replacement for the current map system will take server, guild and friends into consideration, while the old overflows did not, and thus we will get to play with more of our servermates, guildies and friends than before.

You are assuming that most maps had overflows, which isn’t true.

It doesn’t get me playing with people from my server more like the anet rep said.

So you are basically claiming they are lying unless they force people to play on those maps?

What the rep clearly talked about was maps with overflows, where you currently end up in a completely random one, but with the new system you end up in a map with server-mates, guildies and friends.

I am not claiming anything. I asked how it would get me playing with server people more. I don’t think the anet rep clearly meant maps with overflows.

How? This seems like it adds people to my map from other servers but not my own. If people from my server were not in the map before, why would they be there now?

Because before they might have been forced into overflows, that took no consideration of home-server/guild/friends/whatever.
The new system takes all that into account, and thus it is much more likely that you will play with more of your server than before.

Community isn’t just guild/friend list. Community is essentially everyone on your server, and that is being messed with.

One of the most exciting aspects of the new system is that it gets you playing with members of your home server more often.

How hard did anet have to think of a way to call server mergers something else?

Was just writing “stop creating new topics for something like that”. but got an error because it got merged pretty fast.

And it is not server merging but more like an automatic guest function to servers with a higher player density when entering an area.

Sure it is. It is just PR.
