Now, I am a thick skinned person

No, no you aren’t. You came onto the forums to inform us about your unpleasant experience and wanting to report the player in question.

And? Someone can have a thick skin, and still have a sense of right and wrong (and act on it). You can report a person because you were emotionally distressed, and you can report a person because they can’t seem to behave without some form of “encouragement”. The former is thin-skinned, the latter is someone with a sense of right and wrong, and acts on it.

I really don't know where to begin...

One thing to keep in mind with the Charr, regarding their warband: It’s quite nearly impossible to weave them into the same story as the rest of the races if their ‘band is included, since it would give them an unfair advantage. But i still agree that it’s a downer.

As for the rest, including the gripe with Trahearne: I don’t think we should have been made 2nd in command of the Pact at all. That’s what leads to this oddity we have now. At best, we should be leader of a squad – the “best” squad in the Pact, since that’s more generic and subjective to the player’s point of view. There’s only one 2nd in command, and we can’t all be it. But everyone’s squad can be said to be the best (it’s kinda normal that a very good squad would say they’re the best).

From the time we start, those “co-starring” characters we see could/should become part of our squad, possibly even starting with our Order mentor. Instead of killing them all off, how’s about some of them become part of our squad? Build it up until…. dun-da-dunnn! We are ready to face Z-face himself. Then make the personal instance of Arah need our squad, Destiny’s Edge… and that’s it. PERSONAL story, eh? Meet up, shoot the dragon down, and then…. finish him off in a (difficult to design, but still doable, i’m certain) fight, that while still epic, it can be done.

And then we can party back on Clawr Island. I mean… ahem Claw… Island.

ANet’s response to the “moar challenge!!!” crowd seems to be to up the mob spikes, up the mob health pools and decrease the reaction window to spikes. Meaning that all they do are increasing the need to reflexes.

There no real alternatives to dodge. Toughness just make you a more appealing chew toy for the mobs, and control do not control anything because of their short effect durations and long recharges.

Totally agree. What annoys me with dodge, is that you just have 2 charges of it (unless you have a dodge/evade built into an ability) and they take long to recharge – especially with mobs that are on turbo speed (READ: risen). I think 3 charges would help a lot. And CC definitely is a bit short, at least for PvE.

(And once again: risen are dead bodies. Dead bodies have rigor mortis. They’ve no business running that fast. It’s ridiculous. It’s also why zombies everywhere else move slow and stiff.)

A little rant on personal story.

I have read the complaints about Trahearne and I agree with most of them, however, after playing through 4 races and 4 stories I still feel that the character remains a sideliner watching the action.

I dunno, my characters were right in the middle of the action, blood and gore (not depicted), smoke and ash all around them. Depends what type of ‘action’ you want, i guess.

You saved the fort? You fought Zhaitan? You saved hundreds of lives? None of it matters at the end, because you are still a second in command in Orr, and while the congratulations are in order, I still feel that my character plays on the sides – doing the vital things but never getting recognition.

It would be silly to have the player be the leader, because it wouldn’t make sense to have all the players be the leader of the Pact. Second in command is hardly better at all, actually. We should only be the leader of a squad, at best. Non-Charr characters should have a few NPCs assigned to them once the Pact gets going, and Charr characters should get to have their ’band mates with them.

Tikky.6231

I did it without too much difficulty. Here’s my situation: lvl 60 Norn Engineer, kitted out in approximate lvl greens and a lvl 50 yellow or 2. i had the 2 Charr recruited. I talked to Snarl (the Ash legion Charr), and took the ghostbore gun he had, set it up (this probably helps a lot), dropped my own gun turret, and a healing turret, then used my flame thrower. Now, here’s something else that could help: I did not kite him to the end of the platform (our starting end), but made sure to stay at least 1/3 of the way in (towards the beacon), that way he wouldn’t leash and reset. I suspect he has a very short leash, which could explain the resets people experience. A few of the NPCs died, but not that many. I can see other classes having a hard time, though.

As an aside: this is not the 1st time that changes outside the PS affect the PS in a very bad way. Please, for the love of all that is holy (and unholy) would the people that make these changes PLEASE check out if their changes affect the Personal Story? One would expect that this lesson would be learned by now. It’s very annoying for us players.

in Personal Story

Tikky.6231

i looked up what quest this was… I remember doing it some time back, and i feel it could be toned down where the abomination is. You must play an absolute flawless game in that little room, or you’re dead. The NPCs are of little to no use because they get buffaloed by the abom and get killed right after. Dodging is of limited value, too, as there’s still many risen out after the NPC helpers died, and they have near 100% uptime on you because of their speed. And regarless of class, they hit pretty hard. It took me quite a number of tries to get through it – it was a most unpleasant experience after several unsuccessful attempts. The rest of the scenario was fine; it’s just that small room with the abomination that was most frustrating, indeed.

Perhaps lowering their level (and that way, their HP) would be sufficient? Or maybe you can lower just their HP… But the abomination really needs a nerf or something. I don’t know if you can remove that particular abomination’s charge move, but that alone would help things along quite a bit, i think.

“Zephyr Sanctum” could be just a name to refer to the airship, with the actual sanctum being something separate, something on the ship. What if this “sanctum” is not so much a place, but something like… a collection of books/scrolls/artifacts kept safe? A collection that was brought from place to place, as they remained hidden, and is now carried on that ship? It’s not hard to imagine that the ship itself would eventually be referred to as the Sanctum as well, even if it (the sanctum) may have originally been just a collection of items with information essential for (as someone else suggested) taking down Kralkatorik, or maybe all the elder dragons.

Putting a player on ignore should also block the sounds from that player’s characters, as well (for the person ignoring, obviously). As soon as you have anything that can be repeated to annoyance (the Wintersday bell, and now, the new horn) you will have people spamming the same thing, the same note over and over and over. The solution is NOT to turn sounds off (that is just ridiculous) since it’s not all sounds that are annoying; just that one player that is deliberately being a pest.

EDIT: It should also block that player’s emotes (both the sounds and the words).

It would be nice if they introduced some more cultural armors (and weapons, maybe?). they don’t need to be tier-based, like the current ones, they could be just a skin to apply on one’s current armor, and then can be kept using those… stone things to transfer armor looks (the name escapes me right now). Also, i don’t believe these ought to be made “race exclusive”. They could be sold in specific capitals, offer a cheaper price for the intended race, but choice is always better. It should, however, be designed to look great on the intended race 1st and foremost, and then adapted to the other races, and if it looks odd on other races, so be it. If a human doesn’t mind armor with a tail hole (from Charr armor) that should be their prerogative. As for size differences (Asura in Norn armor? Norn in Asuran armor?) i think we could just… accommodate that, and allow for the armor to “magically” fit – like all the rest of the current armors.

Most people are surprised when I tell them this, but I had a FAR harder time with my mesmer than with my ele. I found myself constantly kiting mobs who tended to ignore my illusions (which were doing almost no damage on their own), and it took forever to get through some mobs/events/hearts.

My D/D elementalist, while theoretically squishier, seemed to do more damage and was able to get through mobs faster, while dying less.

Heh, that’s funny: this is similar to my own experience. I use a scepter and… i forget what off-hand, for my ele (don’t play her as much, right now, as i’m leveling other characters), and keep a staff in my backpack. I switch attunement often enough, to fit the circumstances: fire is my basic mode, earth is for tougher fights, air for structures, and sometimes water, but that’s rarer. I have some DOT damage traited, but it’s not my focus. I went more for hitting power and crits.

I always feel like i’m hitting like a wet noodle, with my mes.

I wish we could see more of them, like you say, in the personal story, later on, but that would give a bit much of an advantage to Charr characters. I don’t know what could be done to make this workable (other than making a Charr version for every story installment that would balance out the extra help).

They recently weakened the area substantially with regard to mob density and general difficulty, but it can still be a little rough.

While they did dilute the Risen density, shortly after they buffed up their abilities/gave them new ones. Fire aura pirates, Risen Nobles dropping marks, heck i just saw this week some undead mob drop caltrops like a thief can, now. They’ve been given AOEs that – in my opinion – are quite over tuned, and make the experience unpleasant. I very much feel that their running speed is also nonsensical: a zombie is a corpse, and as such would be stiff from rigor mortis, hindering their mobility. Perhaps just making this change would balance things out? Or tone down the AOEs’ damage? Too much is like not enough.

Anyways… the game’s just 7 months old. I’m waiting to see what they do with things. In the meantime, i just avoid Risen areas as i can.

Risen Noble Anything. A bane to escortmost events

A great many of the Risen type mobs have received new AOE abilities in the past months. All of these abilities made most events’ difficulty levels increase by orders of magnitude, because the “good guy” mobs did not get anything to help offset this, and subsequently, get mowed down in seconds. As a result, players are left to take in multiple heavy-hitting AOEs, many of which are nigh-impossible to avoid because of the super speed the Risen have (which itself is nonsensical, but that’s a different topic).

These buffs also have had a detrimental effect on an alarming number of personal story installments, making a few of them quasi-impossible to complete, to the point of requiring some nerfs.

I get the impression that these buffs were made to counter fully-geared level 80s romping around Orr. Unfortunately, Orr is still a leveling area, to get from 70 to 80. Unless these buffs are only temporary, i don’t believe the buffing of the Risen mobs is/was the correct way to go. Maximum-level characters in high-quality (not leveling) gear should get a challenge in appropriate zones: Southsun Cove is a zone that would fit the bill for a buff. I believe the proper way to go, would have been to add content to Southsun Cove so as to make it MUCH more interesting than it currently is. I am hoping that when new zones are added for maxed out 80s to play in, in the future, that Orrian mobs get nerfed back to what they were before they were buffed up.

Once a character hits 30-40 for the personal story, the motto becomes “Undeads R Us.” From this level and up all the mobs are undeads. I know it has to do with the story and all, but it has become so monotonous. I did all the personal story quests with my first L80 character, but that ended the storyline questing for the other characters. I just can’t bring myself to go through tons of undeads again. Anyone else feel the same way?

I agree – up to a point. I’m willing to risk giving them a chance to spice up the story later on, once we get to fighting other dragons in earnest. I’m hoping they’ll allow for a branching off, at that point, so we can go fight either one dragon and its minions, or another dragon, and its minions. Of course, they’d have to fix it so that current level-capped characters could also do that new stuff in their personal story, if they chose to do it this way.

But outside that possibility… yeah. Speedzombie fest is old.
