I agree op, but inb4 the usual suspects tell us we’re blinded by nostalgia or wearing rose colored glasses.
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
They’re called ‘elite’ for a reason. I think the vertical growth of elite specs are meant to mirror the growth in mob difficulty. Harder areas = more powerful abilities. Of course they get used in all parts of the game anyway, but I didn’t mind my characters getting stronger. It felt natural after being in the game for so many years, like the next step in my character’s story.
Except that elite specs were supposed to be side-grades and NOT upgrades. Perhaps poor naming on Anet’s part, but I wouldn’t expect them to be in line with other trait lines. Anet needs a reason for people to buy HoT, and OP elite specs are it.
my favorite part of the update is when GW2 constantly crashes my PC.
No mouse binds really sucks.
Sigh…. Back to using the Combat Mode mod I guess…
Re-bind mouse buttons please!
NTDK is correct. this is what you want. Toggle action cam. Its just not released yet.
It should be available on HotT release October 23.
a long time ago there was a mod that did this but it was very buggy. It no longer works with the current game.
The OP wants to re-bind his mouse buttons, example: scroll wheel up is swap weapons, scroll wheel down is F1, right mouse button is dodge, etc.
The mod you’re likely referring to is Combat Mode which does indeed still work. I use it all the time.
@OP, you know you could’ve used the Combat Mode mod which was released about 3 years ago right?
Action Camera will suck if we can’t re-bind mouse keys.
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
Who’s betting they will crack down on those “tools” once this is out.
Even if they could detect people using it, why would they ban it? It doesn’t alter game files nor does it provide an advantage. If the devs want us using action camera over CM or ICM then it needs to have the basic functions those programs provide. The fact that we can’t re-bind mouse buttons to begin with is ridiculous.
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
Unless we can re-bind the mouse buttons/ scroll wheel, I don’t see why people would use this over Combat Mode or ICM. I certainly wouldn’t.
Agree. If we can’t have custom bindings for the mouse buttons and scroll wheel, I don’t see why I should use action camera over Combat Mode or ICM.
For example: I have my elite skill bound to mouse wheel scroll up, weapon swap on mouse wheel scroll down, and dodge on the right mouse button (CM user here).
I’m VERY happy Anet finally decided to add this to the game. Giving people another way to play the game is kittening huge, but action camera really needs mouse binds.

I’m surprised that people think Anet would actually allow character collision between allies….
GW1 had character collision.
It was a feature Anet intentionally removed for design purposes. I don’t quite remember what they were, though. Probably part of trying to remove the need of the trinity as that was the prime tanking tactic in GW1.
IIRC it had to do with technical issues because of WvW. I’m disappointed we don’t have character collision in PvP and dungeons. Yet another thing I miss from GW1 .
/sigh
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
Balance is also an issue. If some of the legend skills suck (which will likely be the case) then we’re screwed because they’re locked. This is the same problem the weapon system has. For example; I’d love to use off hand axe on my Warrior, but I don’t because it sucks and I can’t swap out the skills for something better. I really, really hope the devs change their minds about this skill locking crap.
Unless we can swap out the healing/utility/elite skills, I probably won’t be playing Revenant either. It’s bad enough that our weapon skills are locked, but to have the rest of the stuff locked as well is awful design. I wish I could be as optimistic as some of you but I don’t see Anet suddenly changing their mind and adding more skills.
Can we get diminishing returns on CC please?
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
Lol, I dig your sarcasm!
Tbh, I didn’t find combat that enoyable until I started using Combat Mode 1.1. Anet made a funky hybrid between action and tab targeting combat, which, imho, doesn’t work that well.
How about a character creator like that of Black Desert Online?
And I thought Aion’s character creation was amazing. That looks amazing!
Too bad it probably won’t be used in GW2.
The character creator is amazing, too bad they wasted all their resources on the character creator and not the gameplay.
Kinda like how Anet wasted resources on the NPE and trait revamp?
Zing!
But yeah, I’d kill to have even half of BDO’s character creation in this game.

Warriors heavily depended on stances in GW1, so maybe the F1 and F2 is an offensive and defensive stance mechanic for the specialization?
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
I would not like to have the gw1 warrior back.
In the beginning they were good, but in the end not that really.
In GW1 assassins were used to tank / speedclear in high level PvE, not warriors.
Paragon (with warrior skills) was best suporter than warrior.
Warrior stances were better (efectiveness) when used by other professions (Monk for example).
In PvP the amount of melee hate / blinds was insane. Warrior didn´t have any caster hate.
The Healing signet plus frenzy was a joke.In GW2 Warrior is not that bad. Let it be that way.
1) Bad warriors tanked, good warriors made mobs explode with HB and MoP. Tanking was pretty useless with the exception of a very few areas.
2) Paragons were essentially SY! spam bots. D Slash warriors can spam SY! very well while providing great dps and knock lock with BH.
3) I’ve only seen Monks use defensive stances in PvP, but I don’t see how that makes them more effective using them. I’ve also never seen any serious Warrior build use defensive skill in any format unless it was for farming or tanking.
4) Melee hate was bad for all melee except blind for Melandru Dervs. Warriors certainly had caster hate; knock lock.
5) If you use Healing Signet and Frenzy at the same time while under fire then you deserve to die. Any serious PvPer will tell you that Frenzy is one of the best skills in the game in terms of balance. High risk, high reward.
6) GW2 Warrior is excellent… as a banner bot.
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
Yes it works. Do exactly what the ‘Read Me’ file says.
Uh, what? Warriors in GW1 were awesome. I’ve never observed a GvG match that didn’t have at least 1 Warrior. They were awesome in PvE as well. I’d give anything to have the GW2 Warrior be like the one in the original game. Higher skill ceiling, stance dancing, more interesting adrenaline mechanic, etc.
@accelcrow- No. Read Gaile’s response in the thread I linked.
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
@nexxe- GW2 doesn’t have true dodging, your character simply becomes invulnerable during the dodge animation. Also, being locked in place when attacking doesn’t make Tera’s combat any less of a action combat system. I think it’s better than lolspamming skills while strafing attacks, but to each their own…
You’re probably right, but i always thought we got hit by projectiles no matter what. I need to pay more attention to that then.
I disagree. Being locked in place is less skillfull. It might as well be a tab-target combat system then. That kind of gameplay is best suited for action-fighter games, such as Tekken or Street Fighter, not in MMO’s. Strafing and mobility is essential to competitive pvp for a reason.
Let’s agree to disagree. I don’t want to derail this thread.
I use Combat Mode 1.1. There’s a download link on Reddit.
Combat Mode 1.1 is okay. I believe Combat Mode 2.0 and Immersive Combat Mod have a feature that modifies some UI elements which can get you banned, but you can shut those options off. It would be nice if Anet just added this as an optional way to play instead of depending on the mods.

@Tom Gore- I’m pretty sure you can play GW2 with a controller using Xpadder.

I’ve played the original since 2005 and still play it more than this game. Yeah, I’d say it’s worth it.
From what I’ve seen so far I’d have to say no. They didn’t give enough information, and what information they did give was pretty vague.
Maguuma Jungle- looks like a cool place to explore, especially with the 3 biomes.
New PvP mode- don’t care
New WvW stuff- don’t care
Guild Halls- don’t care
Mastery- Sounds a bit gimmicky to me. Might be cool. Are some of these masteries available outside of the new areas?
Specialization- sounds awesome, but raises more questions and concerns; How many Specializations for each profession? How many weapons are available for each Specialization? Will there be new skills and traits added outside of Specializations?
Revenant- Also sounds cool, but no demonstration of skills or much info.
I had rather low expectations before the Pax event, and can’t help but feel rather ‘Meh’ after it was over. The reactions from the crowd seem a bit weird, like they were either half asleep or didn’t seem too excited as I thought they’d be. It’s kinda surprising that the biggest reaction came when they announced Guild Halls instead of the new profession and specializations…

I want to summon Oink.
Anet, make it happen!
Am I the only one around here…
Who doesn’t care about new races or classes as long as we have new areas, lore and dungeons?
I mean, seriuosly, a race will bring new esthetics, new cultural armor and new race elite skills (also new armor clipping and complaints)… It’s very hard that a new class gets me away from the 2 classes I love playing in PVE (Guardian and Warrior) and most of the ideas on the matter are weird or just dumb (no offense intended) so, why don’t we just get a second off the hype train and focus in what is really important for the game: Areas, dungeons, depth, new LS, new events, fixing bugs, maybe changes to WvW and SPvP.
You dont find that a tad hypocritical? The same reason you want more new content, is essentially the same reason some want new class/race. Because people find it fun to explore and try different things. Just because you dont find it appealing doesnt mean nobody else does.
No I don’t find it hypocritical. New class and race will add very little and won’t be enjoyed by everyone and also it also has the problems stated by someone else in this thread. An expansion is about new content (it expands the game). Races and classes might be part of the expansion but are not a priority. Imagine how kittened off everyone would be if we get only 1 race and 1 class and no new content.
Not everyone enjoys the things you listed either. I’d rather have Tengu as a playable race over things like new dungeons, PvP updates, and LS.
On topic; If Tengu eventually become a playable race I hope they keep their running animation from GW1.
Returning player needing some assistance. What does the endgame include for GW2? I’m a 76 atm!
Anet’s idea of endgame is doing the same stuff you did when leveling up.
Have fun!
Today was Anet’s last chance for me when support sent an email saying they wouldn’t restore the characters that were deleted when my account was hacked. They’re under the impression that I gave out my account info, which I certainly did not do. So the only option I have is to start over. But I’m not doing that. Since Anet has no interest restoring my account, I have no interest supporting them in the future.
Have fun guys!
*To clarify, I DO see why people don’t like it, but I don’t see the problem because as Turtle said, it’s so easy to work around.
The issue is you shouldn’t have to work around something as basic as an auto attack. No other #1 skill roots you into place, and the leap forward doesn’t make any sense since the second hit in the chain cripples the target.
It’s like the devs made a bet to see who can design the most awkward auto attack in the game, and Ranger just happened to be the unfortunate victim.
I’d love to see profession themed armor and weapon skins.
I think it would’ve been better if sprinting and even blocking were basic actions and not tied to skills.

Is it possible? If it is I’m guessing I use the pay safe card option?
People have been asking for this since beta, but it doesn’t seem to be a concern for Anet. I remember one of the last topics about this a dev poked his head in and responded… about the UI, not the ridiculous spell effects. GG Anet…
Anet’s idea of endgame is doing the same crap you did while leveling up.
Have fun!
GW1 did not have build freedom. So many of the skills were just useless or so situational be useless.
It’s worse in GW2. I don’t need a snare in PvE but it’s bound to my weapon and thus a wasted slot. I’d love to swap out skills to make Warrior off-hand axe not suck, but I can’t. And let’s not even forget how many garbage traits there are.
In regards to the OP, anything that would make this game as good as the original gets my vote.
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
An extractor cost about $3.75. If its as big a problem for you as you’re taking on, that seems an easy enough solution.
But you don’t seem to want to pay that, nor convert gold for it, or even just buy more upgrades. Instead you want ANet to make it even cheaper for you. Dunno, seems a little selfish to me.
Do you really consider spending $20 or 130ish gold just to be able to salvage upgrades from gear (armor in this case) that should’ve been salvageable in the first place reasonable?
Dunno, seems pretty stupid to me.
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
I haven’t tried but I’m guessing no.
Simple solution:
Karma gear salvages into karma.
WvW gear salvages into Badges of Honor.
Order/Cultural gear salvages into mats (this shouldn’t be an issue considering you pay with gold).
I’m sitting on over 4k Badges of Honor that I’d really like to use, but not being able to salvage the upgrades is preventing me from spending my badges. No one should be expected to pay for the ridiculously overpriced extractor (250 gems for 5? Sure. 250 gems for 1? GTFO).

I played GW1 more. Much more. I don’t have it installed to check the hours, but I played for 7 years. For GW2 I think it’s roughly 1,300 hours since head start. I don’t see that number increasing anytime soon.
It makes me sad thinking about how awesome GW2 could’ve been had Anet kept the core design from GW1.
(edited by Tru Reptile.6058)
Anet tried to make underwater combat that doesn’t suck, but many people (including myself) thinks it still sucks. Can’t say I’d be sad if it was removed from the game.
Check out Combat Mode. It locks the camera and gives you a targeting cursor like other action MMO’s, and you can bind abilities to the left/right mouse buttons and wheel. I can’t play GW2 without it.
GW2 wasn’t optimized in beta either. Plenty of people with top end systems were getting low frame rates on low settings. The WS beta ran much better for me than the GW 2 beta did.
In my 3 weeks of playing the winter beta, I’d have to say I enjoyed WS a lot more than GW2. The game overall felt more solid and seemed far more feature complete, and has things GW 2 should’ve (a completely customizable skillbar, roles, actual endgame, etc.). The only reason I’m reconsidering my purchase is because, well… it’s published by NC Soft.
Haha! It is! First time I’ve ever seen a helm with boobs on it. GG Anet…
It apparently is too large a software challenge for their resources. There have been long threads on the issue, with dev response.
They can’t sell it on the gem store; of course they don’t have the resources to spare to it.
Actually, if they did make a chair toy that you could interact with to sit in for like 800 gems, I’m sure people would buy it lol.
^Pretty much this. And is it just me, or does it seem like any changes to the game (no matter how small) seem to be some monumental task for Anet?
I’m far more annoyed by the combat dialogue. We were supposed to get the option to shut it off. What happened to it?
