You guys do realize you can cross divisions in legendary multiple times right.
Personally i preferred the hammer out of the 2 options we had. I will say that i can’t speak much about PvP, but for PvE i will always choose the hammer over the axe combo. With the hammer weapon and the dwarf legend it was almost impossible to die. Phase smash made it easy to dodge any high dmg skill. Also i found that on the return animation there was a lot of the cast time where CC skills had no effect on me. Even when they would physically touch my character. Drop the hammer was so easy to combo into it was hilarious. especially when combed with the taunt. Speaking of taunts, i believe the hammer skill set is designed to combo with other CC skills.
Of course since when HoT comes out, every level beyond 80 gives you a mastery point, you can ultimately master everything given time.
Not quite. Mastery points come from specific activities or specific places. See this video for a good description of how the mastery system works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=JlBFoHs_siY#t=175
Yeah, that confirms what I said. Leveling up in HoT will give you a mastery point in what your trying to level mastery wise, not a skill point like it works now.
not quite, it will let you level up your mastery track after you have put enough mastery points into it to unlock the next level. It does not give you a “mastery point.” You have to invest mastery points into the track before your exp can go towards it.
turning skill points into named exotic equipment is a good way to make gold at the very least. Also we have been told there is a set amount of available mastery points in the game already.

Looked up your game history for the last week and you’ve had 5 out of 67 games that had the pre-mades stacked against you.

Excuse me but how exactly can you distinguish between PUGs and premades based only on logs and game statistics?
why do you assume that the logs don’t include information about join circumstances?
From what i have seen this expansion will be similar in size to EoTN.
the way they said it in the presentation made it sound like there would be more then one per profession

im pretty sure rytlock was wielding a staff. 2 things i can say for sure he is not using though are a halberd or great axe. the size and shape are completely off for either of those. Also a staff would make more sense for a spellcaster profession.
A guild with around 60 Players Online like we do, GvG like this means only 8-10 can go, everything else stays watching. Bah
nothing has been stated that a guild can only have 1 team fighting at a time.
many of the features in the expansion do not seem like things they could reasonably introduce through LS alone. Specifically the new profession, the mastery system, and the specializations.
also don’t forget that each class is getting specializations, which are like subclasses and even increase the types of weapons the class can use.

actually the next patch is supposedly a story patch. Probably has very few if any game play additions. Its epilogue time. There could be achievements like at the end of flame and frost where you get them by talking to the various characters.
from the patch notes
Aftermath
A small release will be available on March 18, which will provide an epilogue to recent events. That release will show the aftermath of what players have experienced in the Battle for Lion’s Arch and will conclude the current story arc.
I think the worst part of this is all the ppl telling us to do “support” based stuff. These fights are already hard to do enough dmg to get loot when i do nothing but attack on my engi. If i do more support based stuff like the elixer gun i would never get loot from the fights.
Please make all cities fully functional.

its all at the vigil keep now
march 4th is the date of the final LS patch, so it will be sometime after that
Why are people so up in arms about this? This is no more P2W then someone buying a bunch of gems and converting it to gold so they can buy a legendary weapon. Or people buying boosters so they can go through the game or get WvW ranks faster. Just farm gold and convert it to gems, that’s my plan.
So answer me this, why should LS be tied to PvE and not all parts of the game? Maybe as a WvW player i to would like to enjoy story driven elements. If you shouldn’t have to play WvW to do LS stuff, then i shouldn’t have to do PvE to do LS stuff.
Because PvE is accessible to all. For reasons of either disability or computer performance, WvWvW is NOT accessible to all.
WvW does not take good computer performance, my terrible laptop can do it no problem. And i have not heard of a non-treatable disability that would prevent you from playing PvP but not PvE.
This rhetoric is exactly why i loathe MMO pvp communities.
Why would someone who doesn’t want to play pvp have to be disabled.
Why would someone who does play PvP or WvW have any right to feel superior in any way.And sry m8 WvW is not accessible to all. My pc has no problem with it. If however I play this on my laptop it’s impossible. Unless you see playing at as 2fps whenever a zerg appears playable. So yes, you do need good pc performance to deal with the constant zergs.
i never said anything about someone not wanting to play pvp means they are disabled. That was a reason brought up by a PvE person, and is a reason that no one should claim.
As for computer performance, my laptop only cost about $200 last year. It is a terrible laptop for gaming. When was the last time you tried WvW. If this was summer of last year i would agree with you. But the last few months i went from high lag and low frame rates, to no lag and near perfect frame rates 100% of the time. Also EoTM is supposed to cater to smaller groups and solo WvW players. So lag during big zergs shouldn’t be an issue anyways.
I’m not gonna say you should be forced to play WvW. I’m just saying that people need to accept that not playing all elements of the game means you are gonna miss out on things.

If you can’t beat them, join them, quite simple really! Maybe it’s time you pve’ers actually did something for the server you’re playing on.
Yes, because I’m so thankfull of bonusses that I don’t care about.
Thx thx thx for providing me with something that i neither need or want.
Also, don’t pretend you play WvW to give your server bonusses. You do it because you derive fun from it. So the bonusses are more like an ‘accident de parcours’ then something you strive to achieve. And when you accidentaly activate a bonus, you deserve no thx for that. If you were to WvW strictly to give bonusses then you would get my thx. But let’s face it, that’s not why you WvW, now is it?
And what exactly do PVE players bring to anybody but themselves?
We (the WvW community) are forced to play what we do not enjoy – simply to gear ourselves up. We have the worst drop rate and income, the highest running cost for repairs, upgrades and foods, and the least amount of reciprocity from other players and the developers themselves. And the buffs granted to a server are far more beneficial to the PVE community as a whole.
Boycott the content if you like, miss out on your precious achievement points, I honestly do not care.
And another one who doesn’t seem to get it.
I don’t pretend to do anything for anyone. Except give fun to the ppl that i roam around with, while they give me fun. Which is exactly what WvW’ers do, except you do it in another part of the game.
When it comes to WvW drops, repairs and such etc. Yep WvW is indeed forgotten by the devs. Nowhere did I claim that this wasn’t the case, so why bring this up. This has nothing to do with the discussion or with anything I said.
And yes, the buffs are more usefull for pve, did I say otherwise or even hint to the opposite? Nope. Again, why bring up something I didn’t even say?
My comment was simply a response to someone who thinks that pve’ers need to be thankfull to them for the srv buffs they give. I don’t need to be. I don’t care about those buffs at all, and as I’ve said 3 times now, the WvW’ers that WvW just to get these bonusses activated, and not because they love to WvW deserve my thanx. Because their effort is intended to help others. Whereas for 99% WvW’ers having fun is the goal, getting buffs just a result of them having fun. And I don’t blame them one bit, a game is supposed to be played for fun.
Imagine if they implemented buffs coming from pve. If I’d keep doing dungeons because I like them, and they’d give buffs that benefit WvW mostly, then do I have any right to tell you to be thankfull? Nope, I don’t. And that’s all I’m saying. It’s just this misplace mentality of some WvW’ers who think we should herald them as heroes, just for playing a game, just like we do. That pve doesn’t give buffs to WvW, or that those buffs aren’t rly usefull for WvW is not my fault, it’s the devs. For all I care they can remove the buffs altogether or implement their atainability through pve too.
So please read what I write, instead of just adding stuff to it which i never contested or said at all.

I think the problem is more with her than the game. It is going to sound cold, but game developers can’t design their game to accommodate every condition that a person may have.
It’s a more common problem than you might think. Most people who run into something like that just do what she did, they quietly walk away. The forums are the vocal minority, after all.
And the problem wasn’t with the game. The problem was with the Devs trying to pressure her into PvP by putting one of the big PvE goals behind a layer of PvP. Had they not done that, then she might still be playing. (I say “might” because I do not know this person, so I can’t really speak for her.)
I doubt she’s the only one that quietly gave up on the game due to this. The new LS will make even more quit. Given that there’s no subscription fee or way to quit, I have to wonder if ANet’s numbers reflect this, or if they’ll just continue to count all these as “active” accounts.
In that specific case i would bet she has a social anxiety disorder. She probably has an aversion to conflict. One that may only apply when she can’t confront someone face to face. I had a similar thing where i couldn’t call anyone over the phone or text/email them. It sounds like a medical problem to me.
2. Yes, indeed, pve is easier overall. Which is exactly why i play it, to relax. If I want to focus on what I’m doing then I’ll play 1v1, not some MMO pvp nonsense which mostly comes down to zerging eachother, and where one’s personal influence on the outcome of a battle is minimal. And claiming WvW is hard is quite a stretch, I’ve tried it a few times, then switched to my ele, hooked up on a zerg and just aoe’d every zerg i met, was this hard? Not at all, it was stupidly easy, and i got kill after kill after kill, by simply spamming aoe’s on the ground without even targetting one guy specifically.
That is not pvp to me. PvP should be about skill, and not RNG nonsense, or massive battles on which you simply don’t really have an effect. You could tell me to play another char in WvW so that I can’t just aoe everything, but the problem is, there are still ppl doing it, which pretty much nullifies any form of skill required. Of course when you are in a small group or alone skill does come into play, but I’ve only very rarely seen this happen in my brief time in WvW.
EoTM is not designed for zergs though, it is designed for small scale skirmishes. Which means that the aoe spam strategy probably wont work. Also displacement skills will be extremely effective. I can already see the people who are best at knocking people off the islands as being the kings of this map.
Also PvP and PvE feel exactly the same to me. With the only difference being my enemies are named after the servers and usually have better “AI” in the PvP sections.
Also i really want story elements in PvP. >.>
i think that people who prefer to play in small roaming groups instead of large zergs will prefer to play in EoTM. i personally will probably only play EoTM cause it seems to be better for more solo oriented players like myself.
1-5 mins? thats not much of a run. the queue in my server can be more then an hour. also some of us plan the just play EoTM instead of the other WvW maps
While I am tempted to kvetch like everyone else on the low number of class balance changes, I am also mindful that the deceptively short section about Runes and Sigils getting a review on top of individual cool-downs is actually a freaking potentially huge amount of work done if they actually went through them all to make them more equitable.
And Runes and Sigils do drastically affect class and build balance.
So I’ll wait and see how that turns out before complaining.
They also stated that these were just the balances they were allowed to talk about.
Which im guessing means they only account for around 25% of the total balances. (or less)
also i think turrets should gain 50-75% dmg reduction from aoe skills. that would allow for them to still be killed easily if focused, but keep them from instantly dieing to random aoe spam.

The only way ArenaNet will ever get another penny from me is to release an expansion pack. I will NEVER spend any real cash in the gem store. I am against cash shops.
And how would you suggest them getting the money to develop said expansion without the cash shop?
Uhm… the same way they developed Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North, and Guild Wars 2?
Well of those you mentioned only EOTN was a true expansion, the rest are also games on their own.
Im just gonna state this because no one here seems to remember. Factions and nightfall are considered “stand alone expansions.” They can be played as a game on their own or added to other expansions/the base game. Even Anet called them “stand alone expansions” when they released them.
I can’t believe that no one has brought this point up yet. I know some people both in and outside of this game who would do the things described by the OP just cause they enjoy it. They find satisfaction in destroying the market value of an item. One of my friends spent well over 300 gold just to see if he could crash the market on an item with a value that was rapidly growing at the time.
I don’t think it is an issue. PvP eats up a lot more resources for the same amount of results. Usually about 6 to 12 times as much actually. With that in mind I think things are going along at an acceptable rate if they have an even split of resources between PvE, PvP, and WvW.
i don’t even think it gave me a warning. I went in within a couple hours of the release so it might have been a stealth addition afterwards.
One team is working exclusively on expansion like content. This was in one of the live streams.
They also stated that all of their story writers were transferred to LS teams, so who’s to design the story, game designers? At this moment the most the Long Term team is capable of is adding features like the ‘account wallet.’
They also stated that not all living story will be temporary story elements, and that some stuff in the future will be permanent.
As a side not, GW1 was doing the same tasks over and over repetitively. But it felt a lot more cohesive and fun. IT made me really sad when they announced that all development work on GW1 had stopped.
i do agree that we should get one reset each week or 2
this is exactly why i have 300-400 champion loot bags on my main character right now. i plan to use the gear from them to rapidly get my MF% up right after launch. That aside i seem to make far more money from selling stuff (mostly rare/T6/T5 mats) on the TP then i do from vendoring gear.
Ah, while a viable plan, I’d argue it’s cheating the system a bit (but meh). And I guess you do make good money doing that, though I’m still trying to save up for a legendary, so I relish every T6 drop I get. Though I’d still argue that the average person gets more blues/greens than rares/T6/T5 mats.
its not cheating the system if they tell you ahead of the time so you can prepare. Its what i expected everyone to be doing since tuesday.

This is pure speculation on my part but my guess is 300% is the maximum percentage that will affect drops, meaning I believe once you hit max, there will be no need to eat mf food or use guild banners. I could be wrong because ArenaaNet probably doesn’t want to make those things meaningless. But i also believe that 300% mf is going to take a long, L-O-N-G time to reach. I’m thinking tens if not hundreds of thousands of salvages, maybe even more.
they have stated that non-account bound MF% boosts can raise you above the 300% cap
Magic Find Account Bonus Transition Questions

it applies only to account bound MF%. now whether or not it includes the account bound MF% from achievements or not is unknown. although the new interface does seem to keep them calculated separately when moused over.
Chances are you were getting much less with your MF gear than you would have without it. The math on the main stat loss of MF gear was done numerous times after release, the outcome was simply that people killed faster without gear and the % gained was so miniscule that you’d rather have the increased number of draws from the pool rather than the increased chance.
The only time it would be remotely useful is when you’re in a large group of people with GOOD gear on to make up for your junky MF gear while you leech off them and tag mobs. At that point it either leaves a bad taste in your mouth to leech that much, or you’re just a complete jerk.
Except for someone like me that uses knight’s gear. My MF gear has the same stats as knights (minus the extra toughness). So I’ll continue to kill things at exactly the same rate, only with ~130% less magic find. (And yes, when doing group content (fractals/dungeons) I never used my MF gear).
Edit: Also did we get any idea of how rare of a drop these essences will be? If they are similar to the dragon coffers, it’ll be annoying but not painful to level it from salvaging. If they’re a rare drop this is gonna be a slow and painful process to get back to where we used to be.
As an aside, they mention that ~75% of the blues/greens get vendored. Isn’t that the main source of money for casual players (I mean I know I usually get 6+ greens for every yellow)? Between this, causing a lot more people to start salvaging their blues/greens (less free money into the economy) and a ton of mats going to get bought up/traded on the tp (lots of money taxed) it seems that if you were unlucky enough to not be farming the past 4 weeks at either the gauntlet/pavilion/invasion you’re kinda screwed in one way or another.

Thanks for your respond. I definitely appreciate the effort to curb cheaters and understand the difficulty in it. I am just surprised and disappointed that seemingly no investigation was even done prior to a ban. A quick inspect of history would reveal that my husband sent 80G, received 200G, sent 200G and received 80G within 10 minutes of time last night.
I have to admit this experience have a negative impact on my faith in ArenaNet’s ability to identify cheaters correctly. It makes me wonder how many other “cheater” were also falsely penalized. I realize there are tons of cheaters out there (a main reason I almost never play game online), but just the fact that it misidentify something so seemingly easy to discern makes me question things. That couples with the hammer first question later approach makes it even more frustrating.
Very few large MMOs do Manuel reviews before bans are handed out during their first few years of service. This is largely due to them having to review almost every case after the fact in depth anyways due to support tickets. And most companies in the early going don’t have enough people to both do reviews after the bans AND before the bans. The reasons are usually a lack of efficient dev tools and personnel.
the correct term for these weapons is “full metal fantasy.” Which means a combination of steampunk with traditional fantasy elements such as magic.
I have to agree with Anet on this one. This new WvWvW match up system is for the best in the long run. I also have to agree that turning up the variance for the purpose of data collection is the best move also. Cause having data of the same 3 servers going at each other every month is pretty useless for making match ups. all it tells you is how those 3 servers respond to each other and gives you no indicator of which is the actual best server of those 3 in terms of the big picture. which means that most of the previous data can be considered biased and corrupt.
Just an fyi to those of you with a vendetta against ANet about this…
The gem store and it’s products is NCSoft, not ANet. Stop being mad at the company that made the game…and better yet, don’t even be mad at NCSoft, because the cash that’s gone in to these crates (and other things) have given them enough to give the nod for a GW2 expansion.
If you don’t have a job and your mum is getting tired of you using her credit card, then just don’t go for these appearance-only items. You’ll live. For the record I spent $40 of the cash that I earned from working on the game, because the game is worth it in my opinion. Not only that but knowing that my purchases haven’t gone to nothing and that it’s helped fund an expansion, I’m actually happy.
Last i knew most of the profit from the gem store went to NCsoft and funded their other MMOs? But maybe i was mislead somewhere?
my level 30 engineer had no problem, even soloed a vet karka with her

@the OP:
the whole point of this living story event was to make southsun into a clusterkitten
the overabundance of mobs is to show that and breath life into the situation. I am a casual player and i finished the content with no issues. I actually thought there would be even more mobs then there were. It doesn’t even feel cluttered to me
last week i got the same screen as the OP with firefox, now i can’t even see it. getting the connection reset thing
southsun arc is supposed to last till june 11, then it will probably disappear
getting the waypoints does not get you the southsun sightseer achievement. you have to go to all the different settlements for that.
just that “last stand at southsun cove” makes me think of a trap filled dungeon. exactly like those achievements describe
those achievements will probably come in the may 28 patch
in PVE being able to zoom out allows you to see more of the map at a time. This increases your efficiency at killing creature, map exploration, and content completion both solo and even more so in a group. That allows you to do more stuff or gain more gold in less time. I find that to be a very unfair advantage.
The better question is: do we ever get real weather effects?
It’s localized everywhere and it’s so lame.
Breaks the immersion for me sometimes to walk around in one zone and 2 seconds after i cross some invisible border and whoop, rain.
actually that is very realistic
where i live anyways
