I main necro :P just giving my PoV. Feels strong to me but that could be because of the boon heavy builds that everyone else runs. Could be like Oslaf said and once the Meta shifts away from boon heavy builds a bit I won’t feel like how I do now. Ive been here through the good and bad of necros just doing a bit of self reflection is all! XD and like I said I love the new changes to necros. Been Necromancer since GW1! Condition Pressure

Posted by: Zoso.8279

Zoso.8279

Feels like Necromancer condition pressure is a bit too high. Im a casual player but from my pov feels like we could be toned down a bit. Maybe lower Chill damage a bit (a bit! not a lot!) because it feels like we have too much strength. With all the boon conversion that we got with the update it feels like we are just a bit over tuned. Ive only played with a few builds but the ones I’ve played with which are full condi builds feels like I’m melting people down too much. Again I think this is mainly because of how readily available we have boon conversion which was a great change imo and i love it! Just adding a lot of condition damage pressure when paired with our strong burn and chill damage. I could be wrong though still playing around with builds. Also this is only in PvP.

This is an RPG Rock/Paper/Scissor is the way its played that will never change. So I guess at its base… The Abjured is just really really really good at timing together Rock/Paper/Scissor LOL! They will go down in GW2 history as the best team ever.

Wow! Wow! Wow! o// thank you! Diamond Skin change is perfect!!! Thank you!! I can finally hit an Elementalist when I run a condi build! Im so happy! That infinite invulnerability was rough!

Not sure making a good grandmaster trait useless is good for the game, specially in the current condi-heavy meta. Condi are passive offense after all and do not require the same amount of skill to pull off as damage spike builds. What will stop a perma-chill Reaper of destroying eles without any effort now? Chill affect the elementalist class twice more than all the other classes, as soon as the diamond skin threshold is broken eles just melt in place.

Im ok with it removing 2 or 3 or w/e amount of condis between w/e time intervals I just think infinite invulnerability was too much. Any class using condi builds would be hard countered by 1 trait. Just felt like too much for me. Im not a big fan of invulnerability skills or traits. Mesmers annoy the heck out of me but at least they have to combo their skills to get that level of inv. Diamond skin would do it indefinitely just by having it equipped. Its rough to play against that X.X

Writing this post to see if the developers can take a look at the spirit weapons. Most of the Sword and Hammer skills tend to miss and feel a bit clunky. The Sword especially almost always misses because it slams to the ground in the location its in when activated. Would be nice if both the sword and hammer teleport to the location of the targeted enemy and then attack because it feels a bit clunky atm. Also the Shield feels too erratic and when it casts its protection shield its almost never next to me would be nice if the shield stays close to your character and when it activates its bubble it becomes stationary to make it feel a bit better. For me atm it feels like the spirit weapons are a bit clunky.

Creating Builds Guide

Build Creation 101

Hello everyone. In this post ill be going over the basics of build creation from my point of view. Guild Wars 2 is not like many other MMORPGs because as we all know there is no hard trinity. A game not having a hard trinity doesn’t mean there is no trinity because for every RPG game there needs to be a Damage, Tank and Support role (aka rock/paper/scissor) to add diversity and complex gameplay. In Guild Wars 2 there is a soft trinity (thats what I like to call it) meaning every class can take on any role. Each class has their own niche when taking on the different roles. For the sake of the guide ill be using the Necromancer since its the class I main.

The Roles

Burst DPS/Power Burst DPS/Condition Burst DPS
Tank/Power Tank/Condition Tank
Support/Power Support/Condition Support

The Parts

Amulets-Runes-Sigils/Traits/Utilities/Weapons

Weapons tend to be most focused on damage and sustain but there are some that help with support. Amulets focus more on damage and sustain with Healing Power being the only real support stat. Runes, Sigils, Traits and Utilities can all be customized to fill the DPS, Tank and Support Role. The bulk of a lot of support builds will come from Traits and Utilities. Also note that each class has its own support role niche. Using Necromancers as an example our most dominant support role niche is condition manipulation and downstate support.

The backbone of your build will come from the amulet. DPS roles will usually use amulets with 2 attack stats. Tank roles will use 2 sustain stats and support roles will tend to focus on sustain or Healing Power stats. Runes and sigils will help to further optimize your build in which ever direction your going i’d recommend trying to select a rune and sigil that improves your primary stat for example if your building for a precision based power burst build use a amulet thats focus is precision and don’t try to even it out with a sustain stat because your builds sustain will mostly come from utilities and traits. Also since your using precision as your main stat Chance on Critical Hit sigils will most likely give you the most bang for your buck but sigils can be played around with a bit.

When picking your traits you want to more or less go in the direction of your amulet keeping with the precision based power burst build example try and focus 2 trait lines on the more precision attack focused traits and one trait line on more defensive traits. Utilities should be focused more on the sustain side of your build since your weapon sets should be dealing the majority of your damage.

Also note you can play around with it and try and find good combinations to fit your play style better but you should always try and optimize your build for more potency.

The Example

To better help explain the build creation process ill post a step by step example explaining my choices. Note this is all from my POV and others could have a different process. Since I main Necromancer and I’m familiar with the trait lines, utilities and weapon sets ill use it in my example.

Spite 3-1-1
Curse 2-1-3
Death Magic 3-2-2
Scepter/Dagger-Staff
Sigil of Bursting/Sigil of Agony-Sigil of Generosity/Sigil of Earth
Rune of Afflicted
Rabid Amulet
Consume Condition/Corrosive Poison Cloud/Plague Signet/Corrupt Boon/Plague

The build I posted fills the role of Condition Burst DPS. Its main focus is condition transfers and boon conversion. I chose the Spite trait line because it has great boon manipulation and is an offensive trait line. Bitter Chill was my first choice in the trait line because of the amount of chill I have available to me. Staff skill 3 Chillblains Death Shroud skill 2 Dark Path and the trait Chill of Death all apply chill taking into consideration how the minor trait Deaths Embrace applies vulnerability when the enemy reaches a health threshold of 33% I can stack vulnerability effectively. The second trait I chose in the Spite line was Chill of Death not only does it synergies well with Bitter Chill it also removes 3 boons from an enemy every 20 seconds. The last trait in the Spite line I chose was Signets of Suffering. I made this choice because it continues to work towards my role as boon manipulation effecting my Plague Signet and my other trait Plague Sending which is in the next trait line that I will be going over which is Curses.

The second trait line that I chose was Curses. I chose Curses because its the trait line that most effects Conditions. Since the build that I was creating was focused on condition and boon manipulation the first trait that I decided to pick was Plague Sending not only does it help my sustain by removing conditions on me but since I picked Signet of Suffering in my last trait line it also converts any active boons on my enemy into condition basically optimizing the trait further. So I have effectively made a defensive trait work both defensive and offensively while simultaneously making it proc quicker. My next trait in the Curses line was Master of Corruption. I chose this trait because since I am using 3 Corruption skills not only does it reduce the recharge time but since my build focuses on condition manipulation it adds to the amount of conditions that I can transfer to my enemy (blind, cripple and 2 stacks of blood) making my attacks more potent. The last trait in the Curses trait line in Lingering Curse I chose this trait because since I’m running scepter and my build is all about stacking conditions and condition damage it helps me to stack bleed and all the other conditions that I am using as my main damage output.

My last trait line is Death Magic. This trait line is mostly focused on sustain since my first 2 trait lines are more offensive. The traits I chose were Putrid Defense, Reaper’s Protection and Corrupter’s Fervor. Putrid Defense because Scepter 1 last attack in the attack chain inflicts poison and also Corrosive Poison Cloud inflicts poison both able to apply poison. Reaper’s Protection for extra bit of protection when I’m stunned and Corrupter’s Fervor for more toughness and since I apply conditions so easily it gives me an extra 300 toughness to add to the 900 that I get from my Rabid Amulet.

Also note Im using Rabid Amulet which give 900 precision 900 toughness and 1200 condition damage 2 offensive stats and one defensive stat and the traits that I’ve chosen help increase my stats to 900 precision, 1200 toughness (when Corrupter’s Fervor has max stacks) and 1200 condition damage. Also the extra damage I get from Lingering Curse and Sigil of Bursting further increases the condition damage. Besides Sigil of Bursting I also chose Sigil of Agony on Scepter to help with stacking bleeds which is my primary source of damage. Since this build runs on bleed stacks and condition transfers offhand dagger had great synergy both with bleed stacking and condition transfers. Staff with Sigil of Generosity and Sigil of Earth give greater synergy and with its condition transfer and bleed stacking it was a good choice. Lastly Rune of Afflicted Improving Condition Damage and bleed duration to give the build even more opportunities to stack bleed and deal more damage.

The Utilities used are more defensive Utilities but can also be used offensively. Consume Condition is self explanatory. It is your main healing skill and healing power can be increased by taking advantage of your trait Master of Corruption. Corrosive Poison Cloud is great for protecting yourself from projectiles and disrupting your enemies healing both when up and in downstate. Plague Signet can be used both offensively and defensively by removing conditions on yourself or converting boons and transferring conditions to your enemy. Corrupt Boon is your strongest boon conversion skill and is pure attack but can be used to increase the potency on Consume Condition and Plague is great for stomping downed enemies helping allies stomp enemies by using Plague of Darkness and also for sustaining yourself.

End

I hope this helps any new or returning players get a better idea of one of many ways to create a viable build. See you in the mist!

Note this guide is focused on PVP but the general idea can be used for WvW and PvE.

Lava Font, Fire Grab, Path of Scars, Shield of Wrath, and Overcharged Shot all come to mind, and only Lava Font is arguably an obvious animation. Arcane Wave and Arcane Blast can also hit 5k with appropriate damage mods and Might, and those have no telegraph whatsoever.

Let’s be honest here:
Guild Wars 2 is pretty poorly implemented and horrifically balanced. The only damage that matters is instant. It’s not fair, and it doesn’t foster a high skill ceiling. Gameplay (since actions are either instant or outside the realm of CC due to stability, invulnerability or speed of cast) is balanced by cooldowns instead of timing, positioning (because once a player is in range of another player, things are going to hit unless one of the two combatants wants to just sit out of line of sight and then nothing gets done—which means its back to waiting for cooldowns again) or gamesense.

The problem with conditions, though, is that they epitomize this nature of poor design. Direct damage at least needs to be maintained (regardless of how easy it is to maintain it) while DoTs are fire and forget. To have a fire and forget mechanic often exceed direct damage effectiveness in PvP means that the game doesn’t really take itself seriously.

The whole system needs to sort of be gutted, but the playerbase is too rabid at this point. People get super salty if you question their skill levels or builds because CLEARLY, Guild Wars 2 is an esport that has a high skill ceiling. I have to get mad at the assumption of the contrary because anet says so(?); because some streamer says so(?).

If there’s such a controversy regarding “fairness” or “skill” in a game’s PvP mode, maybe there is something critically awry in the PvP mode itself? People like to argue that conditions or damage are all balanced with esoteric and niche reasoning, but given that the questions to the contrary still linger even 3 years after the game has released, are they really? Is anything honestly balanced or well implemented when the questioning is so rampant?

People use the same 3 skills same 3 traits same 1 rune and same 3 amulets and complain that it doesn’t do it all and on top of that talk about balance….. People don’t explore builds. People don’t understand the amulet or trait system thats why they have “dumbed” it down so many times. Number one reason for imbalance in GW2…. Sadly…. The player base :/ Not trying to insult anyone just my personal observation. And since in the highest competitive level of the game rotation is king its hard to break the mold because the team who out rotates the other team can have a worse team comp but still win because they dictate the game better.

The point made by the anti-condi people in this thread is that condi builds can have similar dps as power builds and also that the condi cleanses of most classes (eles are a different kind of beast) are on much higher cooldown than condi applications.

This is rather deceptive, as those damage numbers are assuming no cleansing. Those 8k burn stacks don’t come from a single skill, they had to build up to that point. If you failed to avoid the equivalent attacks from a Soldier’s build, you would also be in dire straits.

Condition builds can kill you, yes. So can Soldier’s builds, with similar efficiency. So why don’t they?

Long and short of it? Because regarding conditions, people don’t bother to learn which attacks to negate. They don’t see a big number up front on these hits under any circumstances, so they never make the association of “this skill=pain.” This subtlety makes them seem vastly stronger than they actually are, as players don’t realize how bad of a situation they are in until they are taking, well, 8k DPS from a single condition. They then blame it on conditions being ridiculous and overpowered when they simply ate hit after hit and it took this long for the full impact of those decisions to be realized.

When you’re dying to massive condition damage per second, you already made your mistakes. What’s going on at this moment isn’t going to help you improve as a player, which makes it much more insidious. Your mistakes were several seconds ago.

+1

I’ve been reading the forums a long time and its funny to me that when people get what they want they turn around and complain :/ before people wanted viable condi damage builds. We get them and now they say its too strong? So many ways to remove condi in this game its ridiculous. What people should be doing imho is trying to find the mass amounts of builds available to us instead of complaining that the same 3 skills/traits they ALWAYS run don’t do EVERYTHING :/ 5 trait lines people… With a bunch of Amulets/sigils/skills to combine. Not just 3…… We aren’t playing LotR… One ring doesn’t rule them all. There is Rock/Paper/Scissor in this game contrary to popular belief. Its just not hard trinity in the sense that any class can run any role with their own niche.

Skyhammer hate?

People are most upset that some builds have more advantage then others because of stability and knock backs. Since there is no build templates this makes it hard for players to switch between builds. Since the map has a lot of instant death drops some players get frustrated. I think there would be less QQ if one of two things happened. Build templates were introduced or the map was altered a bit to have more damaging falls but less instant death falls. Hope this helps.

Also to those complaining about hammer… at least now you can dodge it :/ before you couldn’t even dodge the cannon which was REALLY frustrating.

Nice team support with side point fighter. Really good LF generation because of Spectral skills good siphon for sustain and team condi transferring support. Not sure if Sigil of Blood works through DS maybe test it out and LMK? This is just a quick little brainstorm so you’ll have to let me know. Or you can wait till later so I test it but that will be in a while lol. Seems like it would be fun though.

with staff soul marks is a must and blood bond only trigger in staff but tricky
your amulet give you more healing power but you got less hp and life force also you got no swiftness . focus is nice but warhorn is much better with dagger
the concept is the same though

Just because you have staff doesn’t mean Soul Mark is mandatory. The build is focused more on team support. Dagger is great for creating LF so are the 3 Spectral Skills. You support your team by healing them. Great revives and Condi transfer is great! Also really good sustain. Honestly the build is exactly what you said you wanted. But hey I’m sure their are other variations so you can feel free to play around with it yourself. Just throwing ideas around.

Playing with a nice S/D-Shortbow build right here. Well I think… I still have to test it and figure out the rotations. Was just brainstorming a bit :P Could run Marauder Amulet?

Ranger - Needed Changes

in PvP

I wouldn’t like to see any buff on Ranger. Being farmed from extreme range while being harassed by attack drones isn’t fun. Rangers also have pretty rapid stealth, a speed signet and strong CC.

Well do I remember the rangers laughing in map chat as they insta killed my Mesmer with point blank shot > pet cc > machine gun bow and shouted “l2p.”

No, I’d oppose buffs of any kind to Ranger unless it came with a healthy nerf to the longbow and a reduction in range.

What we are asking for isnt dmg but team support that makes us more viable in pve and pvp not just 1v1 fights but 5v5 and so on

Play around with Beast Mastery some Taunts can be scary good. I have a build I can post if you’d like. Also Nature Magic looks pretty nice but I’m still not as familiar with all the Ranger traits. Necro main :P

Why are the needed nerfs taking so long?

This is why they are not getting nerf imo. Its not that the builds are OP its just that people are not playing their counters. Again just my POV. Maybe if more people play the counters it can help the devs gauge the OPness of each builds more accurately.

Maybe talk about the utility that is actually strong vs. those builds instead of just bad Weapon sets. Focused range\aoe and corruption\boon steal, respectively. P\p and A\f are meh.

:P lol true true I can def give more detail. A/F-Staff Necro using Marauder and Spectral can “hard” counter D/D ele because it can sustain enough to take the hits transfer burns and boon rip and damage. Cele builds are good at everything but excel at nothing thats the balance involved in it. Marauder is all about attack so if u build around that giving more sustain with traits/utilities then you should be able to sustain long enough to out DPS the D/D.
