I’m still playing Pong. Well. I haven’t played Pong since the 80s, but since I never actually ‘quit’ — because, ya know, it doesn’t have a sub, or whatever — I guess I’m technically still playing. Yo.

For me to quit is sell the game permanently not coming back. Now from past experiences when someone post on forums they quit they just leave and come back (sometimes playing their 5th account) the people who quit don’t make a post about it because they don’t care anymore. But your right by that logic if taken to extreme it sounds silly. But if their was pong would you play it again? Quit to me is permanent. But maybe he does actually quit (never plays GW again) and I’m just making too many assumptions.

But at the same time it is true that right now bunkers or point holders don’t get the recognition that roamers are used too. At the same time bunker doesn’t mean stand in point all game lol rotations is key even for bunkers.

The thing about GW honestly both GW1 and 2 since its a B2P (true B2P not P2W) you really don’t quit its like me saying I’m going to quit playing FIFA. The game is already bought their are no sub fee and you can install/uninstall play/take break when ever you want. But sometimes people get mad and want to vent so lol I can understand why post like this pop up every once and a while

Sorry if you’re complaining about med Guard and turret Engi in pvp, this is definitely a learn to play issue. Neither one of those builds are seen in high levels of play because they are extremely easy to counter.

Overall this just seems like an angry rant, and you should come back when you calm down.

Enjoy the leveling experience! That would be my advice to you the game is alive and if your a person that picks up on details you might hear a few jokes from random NPCs. Don’t rush through because once you master the game you’ll be able to go from 1-80 extremely fast. Which is a good or bad thing depending on who you ask (I think its a good thing)

i get stuck with pugs way below my level of play all the time, sometimes to the point where it feels like they just got the game.

best way to handle it is just to go afk the rest of the game after you score at least once so that the game goes faster, meaning bad pugs end up wasting less of your time. fun way to punish bad players for queuing.

That makes no sense. You have a “feeling” that the people are new so you don’t play when your losing…. IDK sounds like you get outplayed don’t communicate well with your team and rage AFK….

I can understand where he is coming from for the F2P but honestly I don’t think that will change anything. F2P = troll/bots/harassment/real toxic environment lol. LoL community is a pool of hate and grief I def don’t want that for this game. The game is what 40 bucks on a bad day and if u get a deal (which is almost always) then its half of that so idk what the big deal is with B2P opposed to F2P (which is basically a better way of saying pay to win)

That is a very large tin hat you’re flaunting there! Given how much is talked about on the forums, and how much more gets discussed in CDI focus threads, if they implement anything that generally fits a CDI topic someone will have mentioned it in the thread. I think it’s more they are working on a thing and using the CDI discussion to refine their approach.

And they absolutely aren’t doing proxy fake posts. That’s just … why would any rational person imagine that’s going on? They have plenty of people who enjoy the game and post positives (me, for one, though I will happily comment on negatives where I see them such as my dislike of the new trait unlock system, and the whole ruination of town clothes). They really don’t need shills, especially if they want the forums to give them some rough-hewn feedback that is any way representative.

I have confidence guild housing is coming, or they wouldn’t have used up so much dev time getting community input. The CDI’s are only a waste if the community turns them into flame wars and other nastiness.

I agree CDI is only a bad thing when people try to use them as ego boost (my idea is good yours is bad) or to start flame wars like you put it. Last CDI got a bit sketchy because people forgot we were just having a discussion and it went from a discussion to a debate. The mature forum users should help keep this type of behavior to a minimum if we want to benefit from the CDI and shape the game in a positive way.

The bit about waiting till an idea comes up in the CDI is just silly, the devs and the company wouldn’t really benefit. As to proxy posts, sure why not? Devs play the game and should be able to post their opinions without becoming official spokespeople.

I hope we, as players, get to choose the next topic. I think the last and several before the last were chosen by Arenanet.

A CDI was done on how the topics would be picked. The community as a whole agreed its better for ANET to decide the topic and us to focus in on it and come up with ideas. The reason the community took this approach is to have an idea of what ANET is thinking of implementing and also to not waste valuable time to discuss what we would be discussing.

In any decent PvP game that call itself of “e-sport” you can play Solo OR Team and have balance, like if you play for 4 months you’ll not fight who plays for 1 year. This is not a decent one for now, maybe after all the updates, just move to PvE or WvW if you really like the game and let this crap away.

Everytime now is a pug v team, at this moment not only me but more 2 friends are keeping distance from there, maybe a break from the game is a good idea too, it’s not like PvP in GW2 is good and the system still don’t help. That’s why the MOBA market always see us as a joke, hurts but it’s the true.

I strongly agree with your critique on weapon swaps. Ele/Engi/War swap weapons better then every other class so I think that should be a focal point. My concerns are by bringing down too many sigils it would affect other classes so I’m cautious about changing too many sigils at once. But enjoyed the video you def put a lot of thought into it.

Necromancers can counter cele builds with all the boon strips that they have. Once you take out the boons from cele builds they go down fast. But I still think either the class or amulet need some tweaks.

Well if you and NeXeD recommend dagger over axe ill play around with it and see if I feel a difference in damage output but to be completely honest the way I have the build atm surprised me as to how effective it is and surpassed my expectations to the amount of fun I was going to have with the build. Only thing that worries me is the range of dagger compared to axe but ill play with it and see if I feel a difference.

IDK about boring to watch; an epic knockdown or treb hit or even a stun to instant melt from certain classes cough cough hint hint is entertaining but I will agree 100% to follow or learn the combat is definitely not an easy thing to do and takes actual practice and studying your class which in a game like LoL or Smite is a lot easier to do. I don’t mean to offend fans of those games I myself really enjoy LoL (Kassadin FTW) but you have to admit the learning curve for GW2 is a lot higher then LoL or Smite when you take into consideration perfect synergy to a build learning timing of dodges and tells of skills.

Baby steps guys/gals. I think the combat is exciting but ANET still need to do a few things imo before going H.A.M with the prize money.

1.) Fix the streams. WTS was great because of the finals (Which is a great thing because that is what you want to be the highlight) but the shout casters from EU saved the live stream for NA/EU viewers. And streams having issue is becoming a bit too common even though the go4 have been nice so maybe this part is slowing fixing itself with time.

2.) Direct peoples attention. A lot of the time unless you know what your looking at a new player can be confused at what he/she should be looking at in a skirmish or duel. Personally I think the fix for this is two things one the shout casters. The shout casters should direct people’s attention to exciting situations or describe the ideal scenario when someone rotating etc.. (I think this part is coming along so gj shout casters!) the second thing is emphasizing clutch knockdowns/fears etc… and I think this can be done through the point system. I don’t know if its possible with the systems being used for the game but I think a player should get for example an extra 5 points if he fears an enemy who is X distance away from him while he is capping/decapping a point. This way people know what to look for if they are new to GW2 and can better understand clutch plays. The point system they have now is good but can be better. This also applies to boons on allies/boon strips etc..

Edit- When I say points I don’t mean points for winning the game but personal points in the roster screen

Honestly I think a fix to the matchmaking system would be a filter to pick your ideal team composition. Pre-made team will always have an advantage to solo teams but thats mainly because of communication which 5 good solo players with knowledge of the game can easily jump that hurdle what really effects people is being in a pug team vs a pre-made and your pug team is 3 rangers 1 mesmer and a guardian… Lol that right there is a very high hurdle to jump.

I agree if your in a pug team where nobody knows each others builds or skill level its safer to run 4/1. Any other split would be better for points but require higher skill cap. Imo 4/1 is just a safer split. Rotation is also easier because once home is capped they move mid and the team has an opportunity to move someone far with mid hopefully still contested.

Also 4v3 the team with 4 can down at least 1 person with a focused combo so having one less person starting mid can really snowball a fight.

I acknowledge the issue, but I disagree with the solution.

In my experience, tons of players in unranked arena are actually PvE players looking for quick and easy rewards (since PvP rewards were changed to PvE items in April 2014). This significantly deteriorates the quality of both PvP matches and players, since players are there to win rather than to have fun (don’t ask me why people force themselves to play games they don’t enjoy).

Instead of changing the flat rewards, I would highly recommend reverting back to the previous reward system (glory), where the reward is based on the player’s score. The higher your score, the more rewards you get at the end of the match.

To make this viable for everyone, I would suggest making more actions award points, such as dealing damage, removing boons from enemies, healing allies, giving boons to other players, standing on a point to prevent capture, etc.

Balancing the amount of points from each action would be a rather difficult task, but it would allow every play style to be rewarded equally, and would prevent one game type from being more rewarding than another (which were the two stated objectives when implementing the new static reward system).

It would also fix most instances where players stop trying as soon as they get 5 points, because they would be encouraged to actually be useful to their team. Obviously, nothing can fix saboteurs, but that’s another story.

In other words, I believe playing the game should be its own reward. People who don’t want play the game shouldn’t be encouraged to hinder other people’s fun just because they want the little chest at the end.

I feel changing to dagger/warhorn is going to take away to much control from my boon strips. The extra stun and speed is nice but spectral walk speed boon duration is enough for me. I am going to take out acc sigil and will probably try nullification or generosity and I think you might be right about frailty will go for energy because I tend to use the staff more as the defensive set and axe/focus as the offensive set.

I trust them more in a teamfight than in rotating. Many players are somewhat mechanically skilled, but a lot of people aren’t that great on rotating/reinforcing/picking fights, etc (basically conquest)

Its funny rotations something that should be easy is the hardest part of PvP LOL. Good rotations can make bad comps beat good comps thats just funny to me but it shows its not only about how high you can get your DPS numbers.

if you’re playing solo it’s often dangerous to rely on winning a big team fight because you’ll usually have 1-2 noobs that rally everything you manage to get down.

idk I feel its more forgiving when its 4v4 then 1v1-3v3-1v1 for new players.

This isn’t for leaderboards but more for matchmaking. I like how the leaderboards are now with the new point systems. I still feel it could be improved a bit for higher tiers. The complaints that Ive been focused on are matchmaking solo/premade. I feel if their was a way to filter team comps it would make for a better experience in solo play and the matches would be more competitive. Thought it related to the OP but sorry if it was off topic.

Hello everyone just want to post about my favorite thing about Wintersday. Hands down the best mini game from both Xmas and Halloween has been snowball mayhem. Its MMORPG to its core (DPS/Tank/Support) mix with some battlefield (my favorite shooter) and it makes for a really fun time. I didn’t try it out till today but now I feel robbed because I didn’t try it out sooner. Just want to say gj ANET for this mini game. The turrets/walls make for interesting gameplay and the number of players is nice not too many but not too little. Gets me excited for if we ever get a GvG mode.

Well I’ve been playing 4/6/0/0/4 with Berserker Amulet and Rune of Strength. Weapons axe/focus with staff. Axe has sigil of acc and staff frailty both have sigil of strength.

Spite – VI/VIII
Curse – V/X/XIII
Soul Reaping – II/X

Been having a very good time with it all. Really effective against boon builds and in team fights it shuts down Cele Ele/Engi. All in all I’m really having fun with it.

I don’t mind solo v team. Only thing that I care about is team comps I feel that is something reasonable to get upset about personally. If your running solo its very easy to talk to your team while game is starting and make a plan i mean you have 2min to do it so its not like your rushed.

Just to be clear I know their is a disadvantage to being solo. Communication is obviously not as strong as a pre made and that is major in a game like GW2 but still can be worked around the team comp is a whole different monster.

It’s not just the communication that helps pre-mades. You need to also realize that it is a group of players selected because they are at least somewhat skills versus a pub of players at variable skill levels. Pre-mades are also more willing to cooperate whereas pub groups tend to resort to complaining and insisting that each individual player is in fact the most skilled and has the best plan.

I agree, I’d like to see what more we can do to encourage pubs to cooperate more. On my wish list is a team finder that analyzes all your games and suggests other pub players to potentially team with based on your past history with them.

Another idea is letting you keep your pub team through the next queue if you won.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Would it be possible to add another feature before joining ranked matches that lets you pick roles. This way you have a better way of matching up teams more evenly and have a better way of defining roles for PvP. You could also have option to pick your ideal team comp.

@NeXeD yeah bro I try to make attrition builds :P Idk I just like the style of play where your an immovable force lol. Slowly bringing your enemy to death but I’m seeing that is a bit tough to do even when we have DS. I’ve been playing around with guardians to see if I can find a nice balanced build but am a bit more focused on getting my Necromancer to the point where I’m happy. MM did that for me but its just too slow compared to all other builds and also the minion pathfinding bug is really hard to get over. I’ve had matches where I am dominating and lose because my minions stayed in point A while I ran to point C lol kinda hard to play through that bug.

Why not take curses 13 trait? Going 2/6/0/0/6 (or even 4/6/0/0/4) is surprisingly not that bad for power builds. Something like a spectral+boonstrip build. But i guess you like the 6 points in Deathmagic…

And i dont think runes of undead are good runes if you dont go conditionheavy even if you have alot of toughness.

I like the idea of a ghost who steals all your boons lol I’m going to play around with it a bit.

I agree the healing is what makes the cele builds have a bit too much survivability. A small nerf on the healing and id be ok with the amulet. At least thats how i feel when fighting cele ele.

Hello my fellow Necromancers today I ask for your opinions! I’ve been playing around with the idea of a bunker build thats main focus is to strip boons and cause constant soft CC and decent damage basically a roamer/fighter role. The link posted above is currently a work in progress and i’d like to hear any ideas anyone has on how to improve the build. A few changes that I’m playing around with are changing Great Mark for either Death Shiver for more damage (feels like the build needs a bit more damage in 1v1 situations the build is mainly a bunkerish build focused on staying in middle of a fight and with Death Shiver the build would be a bit more effective in team fights) or Dark Armor (DS skills use channeling and I’m thinking it would go great with DS #4 and #1). I’d really appreciate some feedback.

I think the leaderboards are an accurate representation on how well you are doing, not the scoreboard. For example, I usally don’t score very high on the scoreboard… But at the moment I’m ranked 47 on the leaderboard. All of this was done in solo queue, without premades.

If you’re losing a lot of matches, you can’t be blaming your teammates. Adding more specific scoreboards would only cause trash talking, blaming the loss on other people simply because they didn’t use enough stun breaks, or didn’t do enough damage… It’s a sinking ship. Practically on a daily basis people blamed their losses over low ranked players on their team, that was fixed by removing it from the scoreboard.

Oh no I think I wasn’t specific enough. Im talking about the UI when finding a match not the in game scoreboard. The UI that you see when your in HotM that has all your ranked/unranked statistics.

I don’t think having more stats that correctly represent what a player does in a set number of matches is really a tool for trash talking; I see it more as a personal tool so you can see how your playing. Imagine your having a losing streak and you question wether its your fault or your being matched up with rookie teammates well with a better statistics page you can see more or less if its because your just missing a lot of your skills or your landing them all. Its always nice to have more information about how your playing and its even better when the information is actually relevant to the game that you are playing. Stuns and stun breakers are such a huge thing in this game its one of the thing people looks at as one of the wow factors in a fight. Enemy closing in to stop a decap the person who is trying to decap stuns them before getting on point and wins the decap.

If you have statistics properly representing those wow moment not only do you know if your having a good streak (by your average success rate of stuns/stun breaks/condi applied/removed) it also gives new players an idea of what they should be looking for when watching a match. Look for stuns/boons applied/boons removed etc.. The new PVP UI looks amazing now we just need some nice numbers or numbers that better represent how your playing to look at while queuing. The health of the community is very important ill agree and you don’t want to create features that will spark insults or harassment but having better statistics that represent what are good/bad thing that a player does while in a game shouldn’t be neglected because of how some people will use that information. Again true player skills is judged by official ranking (which is being worked on now to be more accurate) and wins in tournaments.

A revamped statistics sections is more for the individual so he/she knows if they are having a personal bad run or if they are losing because of another reason. And it would just look nicer. Top stats awarded for example is completely useless and really is information that doesn’t serve a purpose.

hey Justin. what makes the map not competitive is that spawn camping is possible and rampant! have you thought about adding multiple spawn points to the map?

it’s a fun map if youre with a team. consider adding more DM maps.

I joked with Hugh that we should put a big burning oil siege at the main exit.

We’re looking into serious ways to improve things, but it isn’t as high of a priority as the new game mode.

Biggest problem with more specific stats on lead boards is people trash talk over it, I mean they already trash talk now with just the top score which doesn’t even matter.

Personally they should just remove the scoreboard entirely.

Trash talking is fine. All competitive games have trash talking (some games more immature then others) but the statistics is more for personal use so that you can see how your playing or having a good/bad run personally. People judge skill by the official leaderboard even if you take out personal stats or leaderboards people will still trash talk. I’d just like a way to see my personal stats and sees if for example how many of my hits did I land in my last 5 games how many skills did I miss or were blocked. Basically something to look at while I’m in Q.

With all the discussion on leaderboard changes i’d like to suggest a change to the personal PVP UI statistics area. The information given is copy/paste of the last UI and some information is relevant but others IMO not so much. Unranked seems redundant to me why not leave games played and ranked but remove unranked since you can work out unranked games by the difference in games played and ranked games. Top stats awarded is something that I was thinking could be changed to something more representative of what happens in a match on a personal level. Would it be possible to add new statistics that can better show the player what they did well in a match?

A few stats that I was thinking would be nice to see

Stuns – attempts/miss/landed or maybe a percentage of landed stuns.

Stuns – Applied on you/stuns breakers

Attacks (Basic) – attempted/landed/missed of last 5 matches

Attacks (Skills weapon/utilities) – attempted/landed/missed last 5 matches

Conditions – Applied/Removed last 5 games (This stat would be nice so you can see more or less an average of condis that you remove or apply. Basically your success rate if your running condi builds)

These are just a few ideas of thing that I would like to see and that I feel better represent what a player does in a match. I feel that currently the statistics area of the PvP UI needs to be upgraded to better give a player an idea of how they are playing.

No idea where the Sticky went for CDIs. Oh, well.
