that meta thingie is extremely squishy and doesn’t contribute much to damage it does deal….

I really don’t think that particular build should even be called meta. It’s really not the best power necro build available.

There is always that 1 special snowflake who knows it better than Nos.. if this build’s good enough for him it should be good enough for you too.

What would you change? I assume you’d take the WvW approach and sacrifice incredibly significant AoE pressure (wells and DS piercing) for sustain.

Umm wait so Nos is the special snowflake? His word is law and we all must follow the all knowing Nos? IDK if a developer tells me something I’ll accept it 100% but Nos is just a player. Sure he has experience but he isn’t a developer. Nos is good but The Abjured is beast and make him look even better. To attack someone for not agreeing with you seems childish.

The part I highlighted just made me lol so very very hard.

[Suggestion] Restrict ranked arena access

in PvP

Zoso.8279

I don’t really think the OP suggestion is elitist or over the line. Its true that a lot of people join ranked when they don’t truly understand the game and they affect their teammates because of this fact. IDK about Archaons suggestion of 300 would be right I think he was exaggerating to make a point but an amount of games played or games won wouldn’t be a bad idea imo. Maybe 5 games won or 10 games played in Unranked would be a nice number. Too many times I see people running 3 or 4 to buffs in forest because they don’t understand what is a primary objective and secondary objective. Put those same players in Temple and once tranquility pops its basically chaos. I don’t think ranks should determine your eligibility to join ranked games but wins/games played wouldn’t be a bad idea.

And I have to disagree with people that say unranked is the same as hotjoin. In unranked you do get an idea of rotations and an actual idea of how fights will play out unlike hotjoin which is a hot mess.

IDK if its going to be an expansion or some other form of content but I do think something is coming. Personally I think we are getting new weapons for each class that could mean new weapons all together or weapons that are currently not available to certain classes will become available for example necromancer gs or mesmer shield. Also maybe think we are getting new maps and/or game mode for PvP. New explorable lands for sure.

Boon removal

Just by taking a focus over something else doesn’t make it a boon removal build. When you asked about boon removal builds before when I told you to use the 4/6/0/0/4 along with a few other people I did say I wouldn’t use the focus with it. Going to deep into boon removal will hinder you in other ways like damage or sustain.

Condi damage is what makes condis do more damage. Having high duration will help get those high stacks but sacrificing poc for 33% duration increase that only applies to scepter skills just isn’t worth it. Especially considering high stacks are much harder to achieve in pvp. The only condi you really need duration for in the typical terror build is bleeds which is covered when you take hemophilia. To try and prevent your condis from being cleared people will use frailty sigils because they proc so often and don’t require crits, the more condis you have on someone the harder it is to clear them.

Also dark path traited with poc does more than just “maybe” removes two boons, the maybe you use their should also apply to your scepter maybe landing it’s attacks.

Yeah I agree Focus alone doesn’t really make for a proper boon removal build but the build you helped me in tweaking (I posted the link to the post in my earlier replies) doesn’t only use Focus. Rotating between Spinal Shiver, Dark Path (PoC), Chill of Death and CB help in creating almost constant boon removal pressure. Adding Sigil of Nullification will provide even more boon removal but I personally feel its overkill and use Sigil of Generosity. Focus actually does a significant amount of burst damage so idk how it hinders your damage and the sustain aspect of the build is primarily in the Utility skills. And while its true that the maybe applies for both PoC DP and Scepter, Scepter #1 and #2 are greatly more reliable and likely to land then DP. But I do agree the more condi you apply the greater the chance you’ll be able to hold on to the bleed stacks.

What kind of build are you even describing here?

The one that you replied to in page 1.

Lingering Curse, in comparison, is terrible. Terrormancers are rather lackluster if their enemy has lots of Stability, which Path of Corruption is very helpful in limiting.

Dark Path is very easy to land on stomping or ressing enemies, for example, and while it is easy to dodge, there are a lot of times when that doesn’t happen. Most hilarious when people try to block or reflect it, though, since it ignores both. Also, using it point blank range means it virtually always hits. Yes, Terrormancers are a ranged build, but they can readily get in someone’s face if need be.

Basically, since Path of Corruption came out, Lingering Curse became a PvE only trait.

Interesting that Lingering Curse is considered a PvE only trait when it works so well with blood stacking of terrormancers. I do agree the boon to condition for PoC Is extremely useful and a capable player under certain situations can increase the odds of landing a hit but personally I don’t see it being used to its full potential. Just the fact that the build itself doesn’t really focus on LF generation or DS sustain. Path of Midnight helps but LF can be lost fast in a fight.

First off, I can already tell you’re playing the build wrong. Condition necro spends as little time as possible in death shroud, both to conserve life force and because sitting in death shroud kills your pressure. You are never going to sit in death shroud for the full cooldown of Dark Path.

What does Lingering Curse actually do in PvP? Make your bleeds last longer, when they will inevitably be cleansed before you hit your personal cap anyway? Keep poison up longer when it’s already easy to keep it up nearly 100% of the time? Compare to Path of Corruption which, at minimum, is removing Protection from your target, and may even be nabbing Might, Stability and/or Retaliation?

Also, Focus is terrible in PvP because of Spinal Shiver’s monstrous cast time.

Terrormancer is all about positioning if I understand the build correctly. Even though you don’t stay in DS for much time you have to stay in it when using Dark Path because it places you next to the opponent. Leaving DS in a fight puts you in borrowed time so the necro would have to leave the area ASAP. Stun breaks or stability basically counters all the fear the terrormancers have and PoC and PoM almost feel like last minute changes to the build itself to try and counter boon heavy eles. The terrormancer build focus on bleeds so adding that extra 33% duration can add extra stacks to bleeds before it gets cleansed even though its not max its still more and probably around an extra 4 stacks of bleed or more. Comparing a trait that can (maybe) remove 2 boons and add condi to one that guarantees bleeds stacks id prefer the one that stacks bleed passively then the one that demands 2 trait (PoM/PoC) for basically one skill (DP).

Also take into consideration Focus #4 can do huge burst damage. Aside from the burst that Spinal Shiver can do.

You will understand what everyone is saying to you eventually. Hell I used to think I could make vamp necro viable =(

Condi duration isn’t as good in pvp due to the frequent condi cleanses. Better off traiting for boon removal. If lingering curses were changed to effect something other than just scepter 123 it may find a place.

If you like the focus then keep using it I suppose but you aren’t ever landing that burst on me same goes for anyone at my skill level and higher. You would do better with a interupt to keep people from getting stomped or interupting someone who is about to interupt a stomp. You would be better off with a skill that increases your speed, builds crazy lf and cripples the crap out of your opponent letting you spam some air fire dagger sweetness. And I don’t even think its wOrth comparing dagger vs focus for condi builds.

Focus is definitely not a condi weapon it works a lot better with power then condition. But yeah I guess to each their own. Im not trying to say boon removal builds are the be all end all but I do considerate it viable. And it can greatly benefit a team when you completely shut down a guardian/engi/ele in a team fight.

Also this is a question I have for condi builds I normally always run power or bunker builds but I thought that condi duration was what allowed for higher stacks of condi which means the conditions hurt more.

Boon removal

Zoso.8279

And why should someone be able to remove all the boons if the enemy is investing traits+runes+sigils+skill combo to get their boon?

What’s a more even fight…. class x spams boons, class y spams boon removal….. both invested into something it evens out….. why should the boon removal class not be as effective as the one traiting for boons?

They are effective. Necro boon removal and converting boons into conditions is actually too strong.

Classes like guardian and ele have low hp and ele has low armor. They need to have someway to protect themselves, stacking boons and healing. A necro has a much higher hp base and DS.

I think there are too many boon removal/converting/stealing options actually.

-Corrupt boon
-Path of Corruption
-Spinal shivers
-Sigil of nullification
-Null field
-Shattered concentration
-Arcane thievery
-Mind spike
-Mind stab
-Phantasmal Disenchanter
-Throw mine
-Mine field
-Grim Specter
-Larcenous Strike
-Well of corruption
-Searing flames
-Bountiful theft
-Necromatic corruption
-Chill of death

Kk now list the amount of skills traits sigils etc that give boons =) and compare.

Comparing a necros defense agaisnt a guardian or ele is kittening laughable. Necro isn’t blocking, dodging, doesn’t have as much protection and has the most ridiculous heal in game “oh look at that necro with a blue glowing light that takes forever to cast I suppose I’ll interupt it”

“…. doesn’t have as much protection…”

Bingo. So some classes have high hp because they dont have so many sources of protection. Why would it be fair to remove their protection and leave them with the low hp? What if they create a mechanic to remove your 8k higher base hp?

Oh, so the can’t dodge, los, reapply protection again? How many times do you think an ele can apply protection to themselves and condi cleanse vs how many times a typical terrormancer can remove it? I’m not talking about some nonsense build using the boon remove sigils, focus, cod etc.

Your arguments always run in circles, I don’t think you even know what you want other than necro and mesmer nerfed into the ground.

When would it be an ideal time to use the focus? If you say PvE I’m going to LMFAO. Spinal Shiver and Chill of Death do significant damage. Take into consideration Traits and Armor stats also Might stack (but I’m not 100% sure it does extra damage with might stack haven’t tested it out and golems don’t apply boons to themselves for me to have a proper control)

On the contrary, Dark Path was used in Terrormancer rotations before Path of Corruption was even introduced. The trait just makes it even better to use.

No, boon removal is not the primary focus of Terrormancer builds. It is, however, a secondary focus. Condition pressure is the primary, but boon stripping, especially removing Stability, is why you use a Necro over a condition Engineer.

The thing with Dark Path is that its a skill that is relatively hard to land. One of the more effective ways to land the skill is by using fear right before but doing this your wasting a fear just to land one of your hits. Dark Path even when using fear before can still miss the target if in a team fight and an enemy teammate gets in the way which is more common then not. Unyielding Blast is the only sure way to get around this problem but my point is from an outside POV (I don’t play terrormancer too much) Lingering Curse seems like it fits the overall focus of the build a bit more then Path of Corruption.

How is unyielding blast helping you hit with dark path?

PoC is amazing for condi necro. More condis more better.

Opps yeah for some reason I had it in my head Unyielding Blast affected Dark Path. I agree PoC is nice because of the boons to condi but you get two extra condis (maybe because attack has to hit) and you have to wait another 13sec to attempt again that is if you are still in DS.

In my build all my utilities are more for survivability and focus/Chill of Death/CB/Path of corruption are what I use to remove boons. traits are 4/6/0/0/4.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Review-Build-Debuff-Necromancer/first#post4663096 Read my last post to see the final state of the build. Note I changed axe to dagger for DPS.

Define “effective in pvp.” I have some fun, niche boon removal builds but they are in no way viable in serious pvp.

IDK about tournaments I haven’t really seen any real boon removal builds yet in tournament play (even though I haven’t seen a lot of build seems people always just try and copy the team that wins the most so don’t really experiment with comps) but I’m ranked 750 atm and I’ve only used the build I posted. My W/L is 46% but thats because I’ve been on a losing streak for 2 days but normally my w/l is around 50%.

Typical tournament boon removal build runs Path of Corruption and Corrupt Boon as boon removal. That’s about it. Sometimes Chill of Death is also included.

I think your referring to the terrormancer builds that are normally seen in tournaments and although your right they do run some boon removal I don’t think thats the focus of the build itself. If you were referring to terrormancer personally I think that Curse grandmaster trait Path of Corruption really can’t be used to its full potential because the build doesn’t build Life Force very fast or is able to sustain DS as effectively as a build that runs Spectral Armor/Reapers Precision/Vital Persistence that help with sustaining DS and with Spectral Armor if used in the right time can make for a semi invulnerability in DS which allows for more opportunity to use Dark Path.

I really like this idea. +1

Couldn’t adding “official” roles help matchmaking? Bunker/Roamer are roles the community has created (at least I think it was the community) to define different builds. Since Guild Wars 2 has no trinity and basically all classes can be tweaked to fill any role wouldn’t it help to define the roles that people can play? Maybe this could help with matchmaking by adding a filter to balance teams and also help better define roles in GW2 SPvP.

God people, when will you finally give up this Paragon Junk??? this class will never ever reappear. Deal with it.

Although I agree with you, you might want to relax a bit.

No I think your thinking of a Warrior. Paragons are like warriors but are more focused on range but I can understand why someone like you doesn’t understand the difference. Warriors imo should be focused more on melee kinda sucks that all viable builds for warrior ALL use longbow. Feels like warriors are rangers with hammers lol

So the warrior in-game does not fit your idea of a warrior? Well… what can I tell you.. that must be hard for you.

I played GW1 a lot and enjoyed playing a paragon but I always thought that the paragon could’ve easily been added by giving the warrior an attribute called spear mastery and adding a few more skills to Strength and Tactics.

Furthermore, lore-wise the paragon evolved into the Guardian. It’s gone.

Yeah lore explains it but still I like paragon so ill ask to see it again. Warriors using ranged as much or more then melee for me makes 0 sense.

Question for long term vets (1 year+)

Excluding community (guild/friends/etc) what keeps you playing GW2?

I’ve been playing a few months now, and I think I’m burning out a bit. Without anything to work towards (Ascended gear is just too much of a long term grind and expense for no significant advantage) things are just getting repetitive. every day I do exactly the same things, and it seems like there’s hardly any variety on things to do at 80 unless you’re a hardcore pvp/wvw’er.

I’ve got 12 characters to 80 now (keep deleting and remaking) and once my characters hit 80, I just feel a bit lost. I don’t want to spend all day doing the same dungeons and world bosses and content, but it seems like that’s all I end up doing when not just chilling out in DR and socialising with my guild

For me I play this game at a snail pace lol. Still no full Ascended Gear or Legendary weapon I haven’t felt like going on those side quests yet. So I still have lots to do but now I mostly PvP because for me the combat in this game feel smooth and engaging. Personally feels like I’m playing a console fighting game. WvW/PvP keep me here for the day to day and the Story/PvE is when I want to feel like I’m playing an MMORPG and with the combat its always nice to OWN hostile NPCs. But yeah it seems like you might be feeling a bit burned out.

Maybe you should just take a break from the game a little bit. Log in to hang out with budz and then just log I mean this game is perfect for that lol its extremely casual friendly. No sub or armor treadmills really don’t make you feel like your missing out on too much. Unless you are an achievement hunter but thats another story. Only thing would be log in to get the new chapters for free so you don’t have to pay for them later and your set.

I have to agree with Backpack. The Abjured look unstoppable. Even thought EU is looking strong I just don’t think any team atm can beat The Abjured. DoD might have a chance they did beat The Absurd but they have to work kitten out or The Abjured is just going to keep collecting their free weekly bonuses lol. Enjoy the easy money ppl.

Interesting and noble post OP. The way I see it if people use white knight or hater etc its because they don’t really have anything of weight to say so they will try and dismiss the person. I normally don’t use those term too often but I have in the past so i might have to think a bit more before posting because I am adding to the problem. But sadly at the same time some people just like confrontation (normally only when behind a screen a keyboard never IRL) so their isn’t much we as forum members can do thats up to ANET to discard those types of minds because they truly are weak individuals. For me if your strong you raise yourself without brining anyone else down if your weak you try and bring others down because you don’t see yourself at their level.

It’s so fake.. the guy who wrote this does not even know WTS 2’s next and not WTS 3. And the necro nerfs are just too extremely harsh despite the fact barely any top teams take necs.

And there are just too many “dream fixes” like teleport/steal bug, staff mark animations, incendiary powder buff icon, etc. Basically every fix the community wanted for 2+ years will suddenly happen in the next balance patch? I doubt it.

Lol man if this is a troll post then just…… wow. Dude has no life if he took the time to write up this whole list just to troll.

IF this is real then Spinal Shivers change idk if I like it or hate it. 50% damage reduction is an insane amount but the effect causing an AOE around the target is interesting. Assuming it strips + damage not only damage.

Theres been fake wishlist patch notes before. And they were much more detailed.

well thanks for that info gives me a different perspective to look at the “patch notes”

Im sorry but Vayne idk why your even posting here this seems like a troll post to me. Don’t like hearts or arrows that point to spots and kill bug X many times but you like KOTOR and Skyrim? GW2 leveling is the fasted from any other MMORPG that I’ve played so idk what OP is talking about. GW2 is one of a few MMORPG that I know that actually emphasize living world with NPC having for most part audio dialogue and random wolves attacking deer etc. OP you want to find “fun” then look for it…… And plz don’t turn of NPE arrow etc because I think you’ll really benefit from that guidance.

Because I tend to take things at face value and I try to help. A better reason than that I don’t need.

More power to you bro. I guess you have more patience then me. Fight the good fight but for me this post shows why everyone that was Q.Q about the NPE were wrong.

How to make a difference in Solo Q's

in PvP

Zoso.8279

Good tips, thanks for posting them. One thing I might add though: Often, getting a quick decap on an unguarded point and returning to the teamfight is more valuable to your team than staying for a full cap. Full caps take a long time, time that you could be using to help secure a midfight or so on. Especially if you’re playing a high-mobility type like a thief, it can be very useful to peel from a teamfight (when safe), decap far, and go back to the fight. The enemy still loses the point income and one of their team members has to spend time capping it back. It’s somewhat situational , and I guess it falls under rotations, but it’s often a very useful strategy that I don’t see much in less organized games.

Yeah I agree with this post. Thats what I hope the thieves in my team do because of all the reasons that you stated. Battlefield awareness is something all thief players imo should learn to master.

Necro or Mesmer (Boon Removal)

in PvP

Zoso.8279

Yeah after a bit of playing I’m of the opinion in PvP at least, necro is debuff king. While its true some of the cool down might be a bit long but with the amount of boon strip skills necro has you can rotate through them all none stop if u know what your doing even though most fights your not spamming boon strips your reacting to the enemies moves. If you just randomly spam boon strips your going to have a hard time winning any fight (lol talking from experience) and landing focus 5 you have to know when and where to use it because it has a VERY obvious animation and long cast time. I just think necro with both staff and DS can keep the pressure while debuffing (can take out guardians/high boon builds very quickly) and doing good direct damage. I’ve been in situations where the enemy is around 45% health a few slashes from the dagger auto and a hit from the passive trait debuff chill of death downs them instantly. And the AOE from staff and channeling skills dagger 2 and DS 4 are GREAT against stealth classes. DS 4 especially is effective against stealth because unlike Dagger 2 you don’t need to target the opponent to catch them all you have to do is pop DS 4 and be close enough to the target and your tentacles WILL grab them.

necros weren’t hard countered by the braindead cele builds

What? I can’t think of a single celestial build that even soft counters necromancer.

Yeah the only class that I feel can wreak me is warrior. The other cele builds is more of an even fight depends on who is better skill wise.

I’ve always liked MM (minion master or minionmancer) check out my link below to see if it might interest you. Having said that minion pathfinding is bad at times but in PvE its a bit more forgiving. Personally I was able to do all content in PvE with my minion build with no problem but fractals/dungeons ppl normally like full zerker builds for speed running so just be aware of this and you should be fine.

I would consider myself a casual player and I’m doing ok in the leaderboards. Played 87 games 50 points and last I checked I was ranked 654 with 52.87% W/L

That’s your opinion, 87 games in what, 3 or 4 weeks? That’s a lot for me.

Maybe but a lot of people under me have a lot more games or just as many as me and they are in ranks 700 and lower.
