Form of my current build. Necros are actually scary strong and I can understand why devs hesitate buffing them because it can become OP very easily. Boon hate on necro is better than any other class. Only Mesmer can possibly compete. Now with the new class coming out and Devs saying it will counter Necros I’m concerned because I feel Warriors can counter necros pretty well.

This is a double edged sword issue.

There are some instances that ANET needs some slack given and there are some issues to where they deserve the flaming they are getting. For developers, if you are not obtaining criticism you or your Player Management Team is not doing their job correctly.

If you are not obtaining criticism as a developer, one of three things is going on.
1) You are God and have finally unlocked the secret to eternal happiness
2) Players are bored of your content and don’t care about your work to comment
3) The PR staff is not doing their job by shining light on the negative issues.

More time then not, it’s number 2 with number 3 sprinkled in

Yeah im ok with the amount of updates. In GW1 when i’d take breaks it would be annoying to catch up on all the updates. Build diversity looks like its going to improve. At least I see a few different builds for necros.

Make a fighting area at the lobby.

It could solve GVG as well too.

Of course, it’s need to design a new and large lobby.

The whole underwater area that’s been closed could be used as a fighting area

Yeah I saw that. I’m just not sure it would solve much. If anything it could make turrets survive a bit longer. But if turrets survive long, then nerf=pointless and we’re back to people complaining. I don’t know, what do you think?

Idk I’ve only 1v1 a turret engi once so far since the patch (mostly play middle of the night Eastern time) and I won but didn’t destroy any of his turrets to win since he was forced to place them properly and not stack them all in one spot. Its a tough question because I honestly didn’t think turrets were that deadly before patch (id pew pew them with power ranger so ended them quick) just very easy to play but they did counter a lot of builds my necro included. I almost never could 1v1 them with my necro before so I did feel the weakness but really only because of turret placement. If turrets get boons maybe its the middle ground where they are forced to still place them correctly but will be a bit more deadly with crit chance and all other boons that they can receive. Conclusion IDK lol. I don’t envy the devs when they have to figure out whats balanced and what isn’t.

Pretty sure if that GS is going to grant necro great AOE direct damage and strong burst, all the crying necros will finally cheer up and be merry

As a necro worried about the unknown I hope so too lol :P But more then anything else hope it has a good mobility skill in there cuz looks like thats what we are going to need the most.

Ill hold my comments till we get the full picture but yes I am VERY CONCERNED where the necro will be after everything is said and done. Just seems a lot of other classes are getting really impactful buffs and necros are kinda in the same place. This could mean the devs feel necro is pretty close to balance but as a player I hope all the other classes and the necro buster (revenant) don’t completely leave the class on the floor. Again there are A LOT of unknowns here.

You know what kittenes me off the most, guys?

It’s that most of you only talk about number buffs that do not solve the biggest problem the necro has, which is boring skills. All of our builds in both PvE and sPvP revolve around the necro spamming his auto-attacks. This is a horrible design, totally undeserved and completely unacceptable.
Necro weapon sets look bland compared to the existing classes and revenant’s weapons demolish them. Necro axe, dagger and scepter (which are 4 of our main hand weapons) are basically 3 different versions of warrior rifle. Staff isn’t too inspired either. Other classes have such weapons as well, but usually weapon sets for other classes have combos and skills that synergise to create a more or less full experience.

You could take most if not all of necro weapon skills, shuffle them and place back to the weapons and it would have no impact on how these weapons play. This means they do not synergize internally and that’s utterly wrong. The diversity of mechanics in our weapon sets is extremely limited – we have channels, normal attacks and marks which I considere simplistic anyways. Our skills do 3 things mostly – damage, life force generation and condition transferring. Boons are almost not present, siphon is only on dagger, and fear only on staff.
Other classes have skill sequences (we have one on dagger auro), channels, movement skills, fields, finishers, status effects (evades), blocks, stealth and hard cc, boons and so on. Hell, even a very simple ranger weapon – MH axe – has more gameplay to it than necro stuff, because it requires good positioning to maximize the bleed damage.

And you know what’s even worse? That ArenaNet positions some guy, who doesn’t give a kitten about the class who comes to the stream and rushes through those boring traits with ‘old classic’ and ‘nothing changed here’, while the already most versatile profession with gameplay so much more engaging than necro’s and with a superior number of skills and mechanics – the engineer – is getting even more skills and reworks… Who asked for the F5? I guess pretty much no one, but Anet is doing it. Mortar rework changing it from 1 skill to 5? Sure! A new healer kit? No problem. Look at the emotional investment with which Jon Peters talks about warriors. You can see he has the mental capacity and the enthusiasm to work on that and that’s why warriors are good. We just aren’t that lucky.

This kittening kittenes me off.

Um ok so there was definitely a lot of passion in this post lol. Personally I think the devs do care about the class and I’m excited for the necro trait changes and if anything id like to expand on DS. But Im not against changing up weapons skills a bit. And I think Robert Gee does care….

We do have the space to add skills after all and I think LF can be played around with in different ways. Balancing/development time is the issue but still a very fun topic. @Rym Yeah definitely my suggestion is more basic compared to yours which has more variations but for sure we are going to need something because the Revenant looks like they will have fun tearing us a new one…… ANET………….. very very mean. Hope we can at least escape from the Revenant and not just be powerless even with our second health bar…….

Lately just for fun i’ve been thinking (day dreaming) of cool skills to add to DS. I’ve come up with a few that I think would be decent but I think some might be a bit OP ill let you all decide. The skills promote a more active play style even though as a power necro main I think the class is already very active with DS.

  1. - Convert life force to health. (Depending on how much life force you have built up is how much the skill will heal you)
  2. - Teleport to target location (Depending on how much LF you have saved up will determine the range of the teleport)
  3. - Throw shroud causing AOE poison/weakness in target area. Duration depends on how much LF was built up before using skill.
  4. - Throw shroud AOE pulse healing. Duration dependent on how much LF was built up prior to use of skill
  5. - Summon bone minions max 5 dependent on how much LF was built up prior to use. These minions die after X amount of time.

All these skills use all remaining LF so they have to be properly used risk/reward. Some of these skills might be OP with the current builds so balance might be an issue but these were just for fun skills that I thought could make DS a bit more versatile. Again this was just for fun didn’t think about numbers etc just functionality.

I’d like them to add AOE damage around enemy who is targeted by Ghastly Claw on top of the current changes with the trait. My reasoning behind this is because the Axe seems to be an AOE weapon set. Axe is used in mid range fights and is good for building LF and causing AOE cripple and boon rip. Since now Axe only does increase damage to enemies who are crippled it would help if since it already causes AOE cripple to also cause some type of AOE damage.

The OP name says it all. I see no value in this post. Power builds are in a good spot and it seems like they are trying to make terror and condi two different builds. Since numbers are still being played around with all we can go by is what the trait does on its own. We don’t even know how condi stacking will work so how can we say condi builds are going to be broken? I do see some potential power builds which I’m excited about but plan on writing about them in the theory crafting post by Drarnor. Having said all that I do have my concerns with the trait system.

Power ranger has a distinct weakness: In large brawls, all he can do is stand at a distance and shoot arrows. If someone goes down, he can’t go in to rezz. He can’t provide boon support. He can’t hold points.
All he has is his .30 cal assault bow and a surprise dog in case someone comes close.

I lol’d when I read this AND agree. But ranger can rez sometimes if your good with entangle/signet but if the enemy team is good they will be able to hold you down even after you use Lightning Reflex.

The gameplay and action is fun to think about, and play, but unfortunately there hasn’t been a way to really fully enjoy watching a match. Even as players who know what all the skills and strategies are, we as an audience won’t even know what clutch moves are being made. With things like MOBA’s, its top-down and you can clearly see who is going where, what moves they used, and the teamwork involved.

With GW2, the action is so much more fast paced and there are so many more skills and abilities being used, you may notice someone skillfully dodge a Mighty Blow, yet miss 10 other things that happened at the same time.

Agreed. Still things can change and be improved. If anything HotS shows that at least it is possible to make it to the big times (sports networks). And sport networks is whats going to broaden the scene. unlike the twitch and other gaming sites that only cater to gamers. Also GW2 need to work on their DC and other problems that happen during major events. Both WTS has been plagued by DC and other fumbles. the second definitely showing improvement.

Even if Aoe Moa would only last one nano second it would be overpowered as long as it deletes your minions, conjured weapons, guardian books and transformations.

The funny thing is, if you go to the other class forums, the majority are enthusiastic about changes. yes there were some ELE changes that were not positive, as well as some mesmer, but most of the players are positive.

The necros immediately targeted the problems with these changes, and overall we don’t have a positive outlook, and its not because we are overly biased in the opposite direction, its because NOTHING CHANGED FOR THE BETTER, in fact, in most cases, it got worse, except for minion builds and some changes in the spite line. Condi builds, which are a huge part of playing a necro, got nerfed, and our characteristic skill (terror) has to compete with damage output due to condi duration. These devs simply don’t get it, or are trolling. Either case, we are left with the short stick …. again.

The changes I see to condi is basically condi and terror will be their own builds. Power builds are doing great even though they have been shuffled. True the other classes it seems got more changes but kitten it we can do Kamehameha’s with the new dhuumfire all we need is for that DBZ hair to go to all races not just charrs. I’m more concerned with the AOE Moa then anything else tbh……

I should note I don’t play condi builds on my necro so I’m not really affected by the changes to the terror build.

Anet = bias. It is so clear which classes receive attention and what classes they laugh at. Gw2 has become a placeholder for me until another mmo comes out that lacks this juvenile bias. Terrible and unprofessional devs.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. Seeing Davis and Peters joke about necros and rangers on every possibility kind of show their professionalism or lack thereof.

Not only that, but it’s more than evident that they are more excited about certain classes. The way they presented engies, guards and thieves was vividly different from the usual ‘no changes here/that’s fine’ treatment that necro got.

Engie is already the strongest PvP class, so what does Anet do? Improves the Crate, changes Elixir S so that it can counter a whole team, gives them a fifth toolbelt skill…

I want engie to be fun, but they could maybe first give some additional flavour to classes that need it more (fixing some ranger mechanics – sword for instance, adding flavour to mostly uninspired warriors, fixing minions and necros’ redundant state).

It’s much easier to focus on the cool classes and again just ignore the rest.

Idk just because I think AOE Moa is OP doesnt mean its all bad. Rangers are actually going to be deadly at least the new LB Rangers are going to be single target nukes. Also I main necro and I’m actually excited for the update but I mostly play boon strip power necro and I’m saying this knowing my current build just got changed up.

True but Moa removes you from any form your in and removes all your minions if you play MM. Supply crate only stuns you.

Well, supply crate cc’s you multiple times if you have the knockback on turrets (and most engis do). So it’s like aoe longer duration cc or multiple aoe cc + heal + damage. Such horrible elites, really.

Yeah but most elite forms have a stability with it so KB doesn’t effect them too much. I see this AOE Moe basically a kill switch for all elite forms ranger/war/necro which is what mesmer Moa is right now.

Missed the stream been reading up on it on dulfy. AOE Moa seems extremely OP. Regular one target Moa can be extremely deadly and if on a coordinated team or versus a good player its an automatic kill I can only imagine how OP this will be in coordination for example with a ranger (entangle) and AOE condi builds….. instant team wipe.

Overall, playing with your friends in a dedicated team, without fearing that your team mates will be bad/salty/sore losers is a more enjoyable experience. But many of us like the gameplay and mechanics of this game so much, that we’re ready to suffer a little, just to get our daily dose. My final advice: don’t take soloq too seriously, you’ll just get angry.

Personally really enjoyed treb when playing the beta. Completely controls the area and forces enemy players to have to go up and fight you. Really cool video showing how op treb can be if played right.

Really enjoyed Stronghold from the few matches that I played. All games that I played I ran LB ranger thought the mobility and DPS range would translate well into Stronghold and I feel for the most part it does. Played mostly defensive role of treb/supply and won the majority of my matches with a few epic games in the win and lose column. A quick list of things I think would make the experience better.

1.) Treb aim being fixed to be able to hit road in front of keep gate.
2.) Archers add speed boost to door breakers when near them.
3.) Add Ballista near inner gate.

I feel siege weapons should be a highlight of the game mode (Not saying it should be its only focus) not only do they control NPC really well but force a fight between players. They can also help teams have come back moments by how significant they could be in fights. This is why I suggest adding a Ballista near the inner gate. My other suggestion archers adding speed boost to door breakers would make archers a bit more important for offense. Maybe for each archer near the door breaker it gains more speed. Ill probably do a more detailed post later.

When I play Ranger and get the advantage on thief (see them and attacks 1st) I normally almost always win the exchange. The amount of immobilize and interrupts and pure power is more then enough to blow up a thief. Feels like it doesn’t matter what the meta is some people (with a grudge) are going to complain. And to say EVERY BUILD has to be good and viable is just crazy talk.

Guys we should also remember that we are talking about more or less a 15min game mode with one map. MOBA games can be one map because its 30+ min games but I would imagine a 15min game mode with only 1 map will have the possibility of getting old quick. Thats not even taking into consideration the blow out games that I’m sure will end even quicker.

Ideally I’d like to see each game mode have its own que but right now since their are not many maps compared to conquest I understand why they are going this route. But since we have three different game modes in one que I hope we can have build templates or another way to set up our builds before the matches begin. Personally I hope its build templates over extra time before the match starts because having to go through the process of changing build after each game would get annoying very quickly.

MM high tier doesn’t work. I coast the leaderboards 50% w/l and been in top 100k for a good while (not farming leaderboard point might I add) now and can tell you your better off running another build if you want to get better results in the high levels of the game. In PvE (not dungeon or fractals) you can solo EVERYTHING. I’ve done all PvE with my MM build with not trouble at all. But again in PvE fractal or dungeon runs your better off going full DPS and changing class lol!

Bone Minions are fine as is, Bone Fiend’s active should simply act as an AA reset and immediately fire off, and I actually really like your Shadow Fiend idea, although the animation time also needs to go down to 3/4s.

If we want more swarm though it would serve much better to have new skills. The way they interact with AoE makes swarming skills have a unique advantage.

Hey thanks for the feedback. Yeah I was just throwing ideas around because I really like minions and would like to see them get a bit more attention. Im all for new minion skills but was thinking of ways with as little work as possible but still getting a bit more from the minions. I hope i’ve sparked some ideas or some more brainstorming for minions because MM4life
