Not really interested in using the grenades etc., more interested in stacking as much might as possible and going to town with the flamethrower, I know it’s not optimal etc., just looking for fun. Any well known builds around that someone can link me to?

Is this game dying?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: galandor.1059

galandor.1059

It’s not dying and it’s not flourishing. It appears to be just okay imo. Zones are empty for the most part unless you are in Queensdale or the focus of the LS. SPvP has hardly anyone at anymore. It does seem to be dropping off a little bit as time goes on, but that is normal for your typical mmo.

See I disagree here. GW2 is such a young game, it should still be growing. Take WoW for example, it grew for years, and years, and years, before a few faulty expansions have started to cause it’s player base to dwindle. Grandit, WoW is the most successful MMO of all time, but if were talking massive MMO’s it’s a legitimate comparison.

I think the argument falls in the Entitlement category.

Ah yes entitlement, the fallback position to demonise those who don’t want to grind.

“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.” -Mike Obrien, President of Arenanet

Some how, I think aNet lost it’s way.

Is this game dying?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

galandor.1059

So me and my bros had been playing GW2 from release till about 2 months or so ago and we all just sorta stopped playing. With the stagnant additions to the game in pretty much all aspects of the game, specifically WvW, and PvE, and with seemingly the primary focus being placed on PvP and trying to push the game into an eSport, I pretty much lost interest in the game. I have been following the patch notes though and keeping an eye on the game looking for an opportunity to come back and play, but with each new release it seems like nothing is really getting done other than more and more PvP balance, and very minimal changes to the PvE or WvW systems.

So my main question for those whom are still playing is, how is the game doing? In your opinion is it dying? Is it dead? Or is it flourishing, which I don’t see how it can be in it’s current state.

Best PVE FT build?

I am using a variation of the build that Phineas Poe built(I made my own then looked at his and it was pretty much the same save for a few small changes), so basically I was wondering is this still the meta in regards to a FT engi build in PVE? Or has anyone discovered something even more amazing and fun to play? I must say the build is the most fun I have had in my GW2 time.

WHY dont you Spvp ?

in PvP

Posted by: galandor.1059

galandor.1059

I used to do nothing but PVP, but ever since the change of the Q system I have totally abandoned and stopped playing PVP. Why?

1) The SoloQ system is unreliable. One minute you have a juggernaut of a team, the next you have a team that couldn’t find their kitten with a map and directions. You have 4v5’s, 3v5’s, and you get a loss for a match that you have no real chance of winning, thus your ranking plummets, thus you get plunged into worse and worse competition with no real means of digging yourself out. If you were one of the unlucky ones when the Q was first released and had 5 or 10 straight losses I highly doubt you have recovered enough to face solid competition.
2) The Meta. The condition spamming meta makes the PVP game brain dead. It requires little to no skill, yet it dominates the field, especially in the SoloQ.
3) Poor map selection in the SoloQ. The addition of Skyhammer and Spirit Watch to the map selection was just terrible.
4) No real reward for doing it other than your ego.
5) Lack of diversity. I feel like once 1 build is discovered the entire meta of that particular class shifts to that. Often times the build is so vastly superior to anything you ran before that if you continue along your path you are not doing yourself justice, and are nerfing yourself by playing a weaker build just to be different. The build diversity needs to be greater and on balance with each other so that there are multiple options to play a class while remaining competitively balanced.
6) Overall balance. The balance in this game at times is just a sad state of affairs. Coming from a game like Dark Age of Camelot where I understand how balance works and there are times that you simply cannot balance a certain class without nerfing them into the ground, Thergist anyone? I sympathize with the devs on this one. On the other hand though, they could do a much better job than they are currently doing, and I can only hope they will improve.

You don’t need a 7970 for GW2, a 7950 will be more than enough. Also, I would suggest getting a better CPU cooler, since you are looking at an unlocked Intel processor. A Corsair H100i would cool that CPU nicely when you overclock, and will have space in your Phantom 410 case up top.

The 7950 I like, the corsair cooler I do not, 100 bucks for a cooler I don’t have the coin for o.o

Thks for the advice. During dungeons, idk, I haven’t done the math, but 10% damage from the rune seems like it would benefit you more than a 6 stacks of might, idk, that’s just what I would think. The thumper is a nice idea, but if I give up the fury goggles and the runes then I am down to strictly drop stimulant and elixir b + elixir B throw which is random, so that is 24 seconds of fury with a possible 36, compared to 48 with a possible 60, I could pretty much have fury up 100% of the time, giving me a very high increase in crit % over the course of a fight, compared to the crit increase during the might up time which would be a spike effect in DPS. I may be thinking about this all wrong, you could be right, idk much about the FT, and idk if it benefits more from a high crit % all the time, or higher might, and a smaller crit %, with a high % some of the time.

Thoughts on it? I am trying to maximize the damage available to the FT with stacking up as much fury as I can, while maintaining a solid amount of might as well. I know it won’t stack up to the dps of a grenade engi, but I like the FT, and want to play it. Any thoughts on how I can improve the build would be wonderful.

Deployable Turrets works. I also like the 5 point minor trait in tools for Turret Builds. I often use the tool belt skills, and detonate my turrets—both of which trigger Adrenaline Pump.

Thanks for testing Rifled Turret Barrels.

Rifled Barrel Turrets seems to be working just fine against the golems, idk about actual PVP yet though, but I can only imagine it would work just fine

My current turret build, thoughts?

galandor.1059

I believe Rifled Turret Barrels is currently bugged. It doesn’t increase the damage or the range. It looks like you chose Speedy Kits in tools, but I think you meant to choose Deployable Turrets. The Rune Selection is good and works with your traits, but you might want to consider Earth over Forge. You’re not really taking advantage of burning, so Forge isn’t giving you much benefit. The amulet is fine—it’s a nice one for turret builds. Lastly, the sigils. Paralyzation is great with Static Shield/Throw Shield. Life I’m not too sure about. I’d go for Sigil of Minor Corruption. The condition damage bonus snowballs pretty quickly making subsequent fights much easier. I would also swap out Rifled Turret Barrels for Reinforced Shield. Rifle Turret does okay damage, but Thumper brings with it a stun breaker in the tool belt ability, and its cripple and blowout compliment the control of Net and Rocket so nicely. Consider it instead.

Thanks for the input. Did they fix Deployable Turrets though? Last I remember it was bugged. Also, sucks to know that Rifle Barrel Turrets is still bugged, /sigh.

So I just built a turret build and was curious to see peoples thoughts. Yes I know, blah blah, they are not viable, blah blah. Anyways, I was curious if there are any other turret engi’s out there that mind sharing their builds.Trying to build one atm and I am curious to see others builds and how they compare to mine. I built mine as a side point defender as that is a point where I can put my turrets into strategic locations, up on ledges, away from the points, to shoot into the point, etc., Good players will obviously walk over and attack the turrets taking them out 1 by 1, I know this, but I feel I might be able to give them some defense with my abilities, knockbacks, shield throw, etc.,

I had to come to a decision to either go for more turret damage and toughness, or reduced cool down on my pistol, I elected for the toughness and turret damage, but I gotta play around with it some to see if I really miss the lower CD on the pistol.

I personally hate the new system in the soloQ. It is open to exploitation more so than the previous system. If you were lucky enough to be q’ed with quality players at the beginning now you are almost assured victory, as you will be q’ed with high quality players for the foreseeable future, if you were like me, and q’ed with rank 1’s for 10 matches in a row, you are somewhere at the bottom of the board and could careless about pvp anymore, because the quality of player you are given match to match varies so greatly it makes the game literally, not fun to play. Just a bad system overall, great if your at the top and were lucky enough to get good players though, I will give you that.

PVE Build: Bomb kit or Grenade?

in Engineer

Posted by: galandor.1059

galandor.1059

I think it will depend primarily on the group setup you run and whether or not you are comfortable in melee range in zerker gear. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/PvE-Dungeon-Speedrun-Zerk-Build/first#post2605725 this build puts out fantastic damage, it’s only realy weak area is condi removal and lack of perma vigor. I suppose you could drop 10 out of firearms (dropping precise sights) to add into elixirs for vigor on demand without losing too much in terms of damage potential (slightly less vuln stacking for more dodges). If you have a warrior with a banner or ranger with spotter or both you will hardly notice the loss in crit chance from losing the 100 precision. Personally I much prefer the bomb build over the grenades, a lot of grenade damage is tied up into conditions and kitten having to spam pressing 1 hurts my fingers just thinking about it. Grenades with hgh does do really good damage as well, though I find having to stop dpsing to build might to be a bit of a pain in the kitten. I know many people will swear by grenades being the better choice for damage potential and maybe it is, but roz’s build definitely is not lacking in the damage department by any stretch of the imagination, though it really does need a melee focused group to truly shine.

I was looking at running something like this. I would run a primary rifle build, I would have a variety of weapons with different sigils, bloodlust for stacking up initially, and a night sigil for certain dungeons, when not running that, maybe either a fire sigil, or force sigil.

Is the solo arena good or bad for the game?

Tournaments prior to the patch were an area where we could go for competitive play. A place where you could get away from the stupidity of hotjoins, and actually play the game the way it was meant to be played. I know, we are only 1 day in, but if the past day has been any indication, the quality of play has dropped off substantially. Player IQ in the soloQ is at an all time low, you could be the best player in the world, but if your paired with 4 dolts named Herb whom run from point to point with 3 people all standing on undefended points, you can only do so much. That being said, the Q has separated the hated premade comp’s from the solo community, which is really what everyone had been clamoring for, for so many months, myself included. The first day of the Q was anything but fun. My 7-12 record for my first 19 games aside, I was more concerned about the quality of play in my games, and quality of teammates vs. the actual outcome of the game, or my fictitious leader board ranking that IMO matters next to nothing other than to elevate your personal ego. Maybe this will improve over the course of the week as the rankings are developed, I can only imagine that it will, but then there is the problem of players with just horrendous luck. I know players, good quality players who are playing the Q atm and losing every match. They are getting 3v5’s, 4v5’s, 5v5’s with true Hotjoin Heroes running to every point and capping it with 3 people, zerging around, with little to no intelligence or actual merit of skill, and their ranking is plummeting. How does aNet expect these players to have any motivation to play if their LB ranking is so bad, that when the Q finally does self correct itself, they are so low that they will never be able to get reliable teammates to build themselves back up into the Q? Honestly I can see the Q at that point negatively impacting the community itself. If I keep on my horrendous streak of luck, and my LB ranking plummets to unfathomable depths and I am stuck in the games for the foreseeable future with the quality of player I am now, I could see myself abandoning PVP all together, and I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way. The grass is not always greener on the other side, I shall give it a few weeks though, before coming to the conclusion that the new soloQ is in fact, bad for the game.

Hotjoin invading tourneys...

Just had a match where I tried to lay out a strat for my team, I would cap home and bunk it while supporting mid when needed. So the game starts out, and I run to our point, low and behold, 3 of the 4 all come with me and stand on the kittening point for their glory points. Seriously? Is this what the soloQ tourneys have come to? I almost raged out of the match right there, but I said, okay, maybe that was just a mistake. So then, 2 of those 3 go for our boss… and die, to the boss, the 3rd rushed to far and got insta gibbed, and the 4th went mid and got insta gibbed. So the match concludes, I am holding my head in agony, expecting to see rank 1’s, and the ranks pop up, and wham! They are all rank 40+ …

leeeeee /sigh

cool story bro

/end rant, good night.
