I used to train this tactic in Blood Pact way back when i was on Dragonbrand. It was primarily used for golem rushes. It requires a set of coordinated mesmers to pull off, which is surprisingly difficult to find.

Use for moving a large army(zerg) is limited by the portal’s usage cap. The mesmer positioning could potentially telegraph the attack on the objective as well especially with the last mesmer aggroing guards usually. Better to have the zerg run together and assault the objective as one. Players never scout well enough to give ample warning of the attack anyway.

Not sure if this suggestion may have appeared before but…
Allow Guesting for guild halls. Make a system like a guild invite (with similar privilege settings) where you can invite players to access your guild hall who aren’t in your guild.
- Show off your guild hall!
- Invite players from other guilds for scrimmage in the arena
- Hold a concert or other event in your guild hall and invite players or even charge admission with invites.

Possibilities are endless .

The end boss should actually be challenging. I thought the mordremoth fight was challenging. I would have had 1 less reset on it if it didn’t glitch though. Strike out the “not too hard” part of the OP request at the end.

I do agree Zhaitan was a bit of a letdown. There should have been a ground battle phase where you go in and finish the job after he falls off that mountain spire. I’ll keep faith ANET will get it right for dragon number 3. And… make it hard. If people are coming to the forums asking you to nerf it you did it right.

Cannons aren’t that great of a defensive weapon outside of smc. I tried to use them to defend anz and the enemy commander just dropped cats right on the wall. Players just dodge the shots too.

I’m going to vote to keep the cannons and see if anet can make some changes to improve them (like no through gate splash damage, faster shot delivery, mastery line improvments, etc).

I agree with the quick command idea. It has to be local area and put a chat bubble over my head too (cause zerglings eyes don’t leave the center of the screen). The commands should be keybinds you can set. Ideally your character should shout the command verbally (ingame audio) too. These should not be subjected to spam filters either but would be suppressed if you block the person trying to use them.

I think their survivablity is fine. I’ve had trouble dropping them on my guardian.

I do love landing a moa on a necro in shroud (with my mesmer) with 10% hp left though. It feels so fun to totally ruin their day.

I got this from UFO Abductions and realized that with a few small modifications that it was eerily close to this situation.

The aliens Asura perform staring procedures during which they gaze into abductees’ eyes at at distance of only an inch or two. These “mindscan” procedures appear to be neurological manipulations which give the aliens Asuras the ability to “enter into” peoples’ minds.

Sometimes abductees report that they are required to perform tasks, that they are “tested” in some way. They say that machines are brought in to examine them. They are returned to their normal environment and within seconds, they forget what has just happened to them.

Problem with gliding is it trivializes defenses. Flight itself changed the face of war in the 20th century. I’ll leave it at that as it’s probably a very interesting history research topic. The basic premise is you could fly over the enemy’s lines of defense and walls and attack their home directly.

In WvW gliding would have very much the same effect. The maps weren’t designed to take gliding into account. Even the desert borderlands wasn’t designed that way. There are many supposed ways that you could alter the maps and gameplay to make gliding less impactful but the end result is ultimately detrimental to WvW.

You’ll just have to break free of your conditioning or eat the dirt like Wile E Coyote.

The problem with WvW tournaments is that the scoring system (even the current skirmish one) in WvW does not indicate the competitive skill brought to the game but rather the population brought to it. It displays the population disparity between the servers involved and nothing else. The actions of players generally have little effect to the outcome. Having more coverage is what effects the outcome. Attempting to tie any kind of competitive prize to this system is complete folly.

I’m not sure if there can be a system where player skill has the ultimate impact on the outcome with WvW without some serious limitations to the game format that may players and ANET don’t want to explore.

Link locations in Team chat instead of Map chat to prevent getting blocked. There is a separate counter in the map and say chats that track the number of links you do consecutively and that triggered the suppression.

Adding some slight information after the links should prevent getting blocked but if you want to be totally sure use Team chat as that has no spam filters in it.

1v1 Mesmer vs Guardian (at least condi-chrono meta) generally goes to the guardian when a capture point is involved. The points in the maps are small enough that the guardian traps can take up most if not all of the capture point. That makes it impossible for the mesmer to actually fight on the point. Against a DH i’d end up giving up the point to get mobility necessary to fight. The good DHs don’t even blow all their traps in a single shot, they do one then pull you and spam the rest.

In the queues I’ve noticed whatever team has the most guardians wins. This especially goes if the guardians rotate together while the other players defend points until they can get there. Team of 3 DH, 1 mesmer, 1 thief (or 2 of any other class) could sweep any match they come across so long as the DHs are half decent (like winning amber material).

Fights are fun off my condi-chrono with thieves who think i’m gank bait. So many of them bounce off my shield and while they’re in that range is the perfect time to unload a shatter or two and either smoke em or scare em off.

I think the circle for the bell needs to be twice the current diameter to counter the obvious DH trap stacking on it. The point reward should also scale regardless of who caps it to make it a comeback mechanic near the endgame.

I personally don’t mind stronghold. I find it kinda fun actually. That said more conquest maps will be received better than a new game mode even if players say they want a new mode.

The commander felt the need for faster communication than map chat. With VOIP communication (Teamspeak, Mumble, Discord, Skype, whatever) the commander can micro-manage the fight and bring himself on even ground with another zerg which is using the VOIP. At that level commands need to be issued in split seconds and followed just as as fast or the zerg could suffer a wipe. This wipe leads to a loss of objectives while the zerg regroups (not to mention a loss of zerg size due to players quitting, missed opportunity for bags and rewards and a ruined map strategy).

The commander saw players who are unable to join the VOIP as a liability. The reason for this liability is two fold: Players who are not part of the VOIP can miss communications and will not react fast enough leading to the second part: It takes very slight numbers advantage to reach “critical mass” where a zerg wipes another through sheer firepower. The commander wanted a more accurate count of the players in his squad who were reliable to fight with so he knows when this critical mass would hit and help him improve the sustain of the zerg. This was most likely why you were kicked.

I’ve been on both sides of this issue. It can really be frustrating when as a commander you need better coordination to win fights and objectives and simply can’t get it from your players. It can be equally frustrating when you get kicked from a zerg for not having voice comms.

How you should handle this: Shrug it off, follow him still if you want or do your own thing. Single players and small groups are viable in WvW despite what you may have read. 2-5 people can take towers, camps, and even keeps that go undefended and can also provide valuable scouting information to commanders on the map.

The last thing you want to do is come to the forums in a wall of text fit when you get kicked. That does nothing for the respect you wish people to have for you (it harms it quite a bit actually). You’re going to be kicked from parties, squads, and raids in the future. Learn to let it go. You’ll soon be doing the kicking too.

I think the pips should also be tied to personal performance during the match. Things like your KDR, points decapped/capped, uptime during fights, length of defense on points and such. Maybe have the top 2 people on the losing team not lose a pip if their match scores were above a certain threshold.

My thoughts on Capricorn:

The bell event adds a bit of fun to the map as it increases in strategic value over the course of the match. It makes a good distraction for 3-capping while a team focuses on it. The map size is good and the flat easily navigated terrain makes rotating easy. The objective spacing is decent, preventing zergs from dominating too much.
Ok, that said… improvements it could have to make it a decent map
- Fix the Blue spawn direction so it points out the main gate.
- Add more buildings around the dock to match the ones around the bazaar.
- Match the general topography of the Bazaar and Dock. The raised pedestal of the Bazaar unbalances it from the Dock’s generally flat north area. Having to jump up from the Blue home makes it harder to capture.
- Improve the speed at which side gates can access the Home point. It’s actually faster to get to home from the main gate, which defeats the purpose of the side gate (other than spawn camp breaking)
- Increase the capture point sizes. This is quite a big one. A Trap DH can totally overwhelm a capture point and make it impossible to contest the point. The side points are especially difficult to contest. The Bell point should be significantly larger as well to reduce the dominance of trap builds on the map.
- Make the bell scale for both teams when one team captures it. The scale currently is per-team, making it not as valuable late in the game except for teams who regularly controlled it. If the bell scales no matter who captures it then it becomes a more important item late game and can swing the match. It would be much like tranquility on Silent Storm.

In seriousness… their gods are real. The same could be said about the Sylvari probably. None of the other races’ gods appear to be real in the same manner as the human gods and none have definitely played a part in the shaping of recent events in Tyria. While they’re not as active “today” they were very active in the past and could increase activity at any point in the near future.

My QOL suggestions for the music system ingame:

  • Remove octave switch lag. This can be done client side as the lag comes from the skillbar animation when switching octaves. Remove this animation completely for instruments so we can more effectively do octave change chords.
  • Semitones: Add semitones on the F1-F5 keys on all instruments. C#, D#, F#, G#, A#.
  • Server side: Store the state of a player’s selected octave. Little known to musicians in GW2 is the fact that the music system lies to you. If you changed off the default setting for your instrument, it does not update that setting for any new player who approaches you. Players who have been around you since an octave change hear the correct thing, but the new players only hear the default settings. And DONT TELL ME YOU CAN’T DO THIS!! YOU DO IT FOR ELEMENTALIST ATTUNEMENTS ALREADY. The selected octave on an instrument is no different from the selected attunement on an elementalist.
  • Normalize keys for instruments: Flute and Trumpet are in E. Bring them into C. Choir bell is in a strange D-D yet in C octave. Bring that to C as well.
  • Remove autoplay mode on the bass, its unnecessary.
  • Add long note orchestral instruments: Violin, Cello, Bass, Asuran Synthesizer, Charr electric guitar with chord capability.
  • Allow custom tempo for the drum. At a minimum make the current tempo consistent (it’s not btw, it seems to be between 59 and 61bpm but when I try to match a metronome to it i can never perfectly match it).

Lotro has this in their game. The difference in pve and pvp of a group/raid being managed with voice vs typed was night and day. IMHO if people are going to run in a group get off your lazy kitten and into a ts server if its provided. Difficult to direct and get your skills off correctly while typing as apposed to hands free voice or ptt on a easily thumbed key.

Thing is I’ve tried the “get off your lazy kitten and get in the TS” approach and it rarely works save for the few dedicated wvwers that are on at the time. While it may be buggy sometimes an ingame TS doesn’t require any third party apps that a player may not recognize or trust and doesn’t require tabbing out of the game to activate. I’d even prefer if they didn’t have to do anything to activate it, simply being near me or in my squad and being able to hear the voice comms would be sufficient. The stability of the feature depends on how well the devs implement it.

Faction System Proposal

I’ll start by saying I’m not in league with the other faction system guy. I would like to propose a faction system though that could possibly work to balance population.

Introduction:
Servers would be split into 3 factions. Names TBD, lets call them red, green, and blue. This split is done based on each server’s active wvw population as a median over two weeks leading up to its release. During that time no transfers will be allowed. ANET would do well to not announce this faction system release, but just say they’re locking transfers for another purpose. Servers are divided into the 3 factions to have a close balanced starting population. After that the servers will never change faction.

Basic matchup:
WvW stays the way it is but each map now has 3 districts, akin to shards in the megaserver system, but permanent and persistent. Each district’s warscore adds to a faction’s total war score, which determines the winning faction at the end of a week. A faction must do well in all districts on all 5 wvw maps to be successful. Players may choose which district of a wvw map they wish to enter, and this will be crucial for a faction’s success Factions will change colors based on their position at the end of the week: Winning faction gets green color, second place gets blue, third gets red.

Edge of the mists:
EOTM will no longer be the overflow it is but will be a normal wvw map with 3 districts. This adds into the 4 current maps to produce 15 total maps to conquer. Structures on EOTM would be upgradable and supply easier to come by as an adjustment to make it mesh with other maps.

Transfers:
For the first week transfers will be locked.
After the first week, the faction which won first place in a week may not receive transfers. Transfer costs to other factions depends on how far the lead was for the first place faction.
- Greater than 100k lead would allow free transfers to the second place faction.
- Second place transfer for a closer lead would then be 100-50k lead would be 200 gems, 50-25k 400 gems, 25k-0 800 gems.
- Players from the third place faction may pay the same lead price to transfer to the middle faction. Transfers to the third place faction from the first place faction will always be free. Transfers from second to third place will be based on the same lead scale as for first to second.

I propose this system as a way to balance out wvw population and provide decent fights and ppt at the same time. The existence of districts allows small parties to avoid huge zergs and make headway while providing ample room for the total wvw population. The number of districts and maps can be expanded if the wvw population increases or reduced if the population decreases. That would be manual at ANET’s discretion.

The system is open to volatility with the free transfer allowance but also allows for players to correct balance without having to pay to do so. If they all bandwagon a faction and it wins the faction gets locked to incoming transfers while the losing ones open up. The prices to transfer from second to third and first to second place prevent those factions from being unbalanced against each other.

There it is. My idea for a faction system that could work.

I know all the potential negatives and trolling that can come from this. I did some commanding last night and it was nigh impossible to coordinate a stonemist 3 way with typing and the pugs simply ignoring the chat while the other servers were clearly in voice comms of some kind with how effectively they coordinated.

Something for my squad or for shot range comms that could help me coordinate pugs who don’t want to alt-tab out to get on teamspeak would be sweet. It should have vox, push to talk, and continuous stream options (though i doubt anyone would use the thrid one).
