I don’t know man, your premise arguments about development and support seem not to really understand what those words mean, and the rest of your post is a bunch of complaints based on personal opinion – when the changes to the guild system and to traits had clear rationales behind them and came in response to player feedback and consultation.

Your ideas about level-limit geared content are just laughable. Forcing players to have different sets of equipment for non-80 content is just going to make players desert this content en-masse in favour of less micro-management.

Do you have a full ascended set? It’s not going to make any of your characters overpowered, that much I can say. If you couldn’t do content with exotic gear you’re not going to have much more success in ascended gear.

It’s not like players don’t already have reasons to work together. The materials that you have to gather for free into your guild treasury – well, the magnitude of that is precisely so that a guild will feel like a community that you have to slowly chip in to to receive benefits from. Your contribution is a small part of every upgrade, every buff you receive. Heart of Thorns hero points are, in a way, a replacement of the trait system – they require informal groups to form up to beat them, and they reward everyone who participates.

I get that some ways the game has changed may not be to your liking, but I really dislike the way you speak in “shoulds” and lay out a badly-formatted list of badly-thought-out suggestions.

It may be in game but truthfully, lore wise, it makes no sense. Why should any god bless an atheist? How does the Charr statue give a boon when boon giving at a statue is a god like attribute. Why would making a statue of a mortal, no matter how famous they are, give the statue or the dead person the ability to give a blessing? Why only Charr statues then? Why wouldn’t statues of famous Humans, Norn, Sylvari or Asura give a buff too upon request?

But, no matter. You just want shrines and statues that give buffs and whether or not it makes sense is beside the point.

/shrug.

I’ve said a few times now, and allow me to cut it out in neon for you The Buff Does Not Matter! It Is Not Important!
No one care about the buff… it’s a minor effect… What we care about is the Flavour and the Lore… And it makes perfect sense. Why would a god not bless ANYONE who chose to worship them, regardless of which race they belong to?
Kneeling in front of a shrine = sign of worship. Thus the god would bless you, regardless of which race you belong to…

What you want is already in the game for the most part then since you are ignoring boons. Go to racial cities and you will find statues, labs, and whatever. Well, not the Sylvari but plants and the Great Tree are there. Is it just a matter of requesting the emotes then?

As I understand OP’s perspective, it’s the possibility of some sort of lore-related reaction from paying homage/saluting/worshipping at these shrines that is being requested here. Shrine/statue-emote interactions already exist at rare points through Central Tyria, and it would be nice to see more.

my experience of tagging has generally been very positive! I like going around the HoT maps, calling out what I’m doing (blue tag doing Mellagan’s Valor chain! purple tag killing frog champs, feel free to join and bring CCs!). So long as I stay chatty, people seem to bounce off my energy and for the most part I can usually get a nice group. I feel like people are always happy to find someone willing to lead.

On the flipside, leading is tiring! Sometimes I just want to follow someone else and shoot things, and not just because I don’t know how event chains work. Tagging up feels to me like a responsibility because you’re not just rallying people to an event – you’re also managing the moods and expectations of a mixed group that might comprise experienced event farmers and complete HoT newbies trying to cope with jungle combat.

I would love it if more people tagged up at events, but at the same time I understand why the apples and doritos are not more liberally sprinkled across maps. I think this is a good thing! I like that leaders are uncommon enough that someone who’s willing to step up WILL get recognition. I like that when someone calls out in map that they’re doing an event chain, they can almost always get together a group of pugs tired of aimless solo wandering, eager to group up around a decisive rallying voice.

Alright, which of you chuckleheads...

I’ve read the recipes where you get gold from upgrading mats. Because of RNG, you don’t always make a profit. You are expected to do it sufficient numbers of time that RNGeesus smiles upon you. An example I read explaining how to use it said they refined and upgraded over 12,000 elder wood logs. Another person tried 50,000 green planks, and still lost gold because their RNG didn’t reach enough upgraded mats back per try that is needed to break even.

I just don’t have the patience to mess with the mystic forge and its RNG. I would rather sell these scrolls to people that do want to spend time in front of a spreadsheet, calculating the odds and how much profit per skillpoint. That way is not how I want to play the game though.

I respect most of your posts on this forum, but I really feel like I want to clarify this perspective here. Although there is some RNG, the promotion formula is much more forgiving than the other RNG-heavy thing the mystic forge is known for, which is precursor-fishing. Because we have a lot more data on forge promotion, we can work out a general sort of average output over a large number.

Forge promotion alone is not enough to guarantee a profit – one must also be familiar with the cost price of the raw material and the sell price of the result material, and be able to buy when the raw material is at a low point, and hold to sell when the result is at a high point. I think I saw the post you’re referring to about the guy who did 50k green planks and if I remember right he was very careless about when he decided to sell the soft wood.

Knowing the input price, the average expected output and having a target sell price can make forge promotion a steady and predictable way of converting SP into gold.

I was searching the second and third pages of the forum to find this thread because I didn’t expect it to still be on the front page; came back to discover that the reason it’s still here is because

I would like to protest the fact that my answer is not listed among the best answers. Get on that, nyctalopia!

I gave you a +1 for your answer, I swear!

Anyway. I don’t know where the supply on the TP is mainly from, and I think none of us can know. GW2Spidy suggests that there are cyclical supply spikes (sell-price or buy-price dips) – including one that started yesterday and increased TP supply by 4 stacks’ worth. My working theory is that a buy-price dip (caused by a lot of buy orders suddenly getting filled) is caused by people who mainly want to clear their inventories or bank spaces and want money immediately, while a sell-price dip (caused by a faster-than-usual increase in sell listings) would be caused by farmers who want to maximise their profit. What we’ve been having over the past day has been a sell-price dip, which suggests to me that some people have joined me in farming poultry after this thread :P

I’ll quote a few of the useful answers so other people with the same question will benefit next time

What fowl deeds are you undertaking?

If you step outside LA into Blood tide, just off to the right is a grp of raptors. I can think of more when I get home

Go to Crossing Waypoint in Queensdale. There are a ton of Moa’s there.

The SW corner of Fireheart Rise has lots of them running in groups.

Lotsa raptors (if I remember right) in Metrica just East of this WP: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Desider_Atum

Do CM daily. the bags give plenty of poultry. Buy whatever extra you need. Someone else will be running CM and willing to sell them to you.

Back when i was on a silver league server and would lead a karma train over the borderlands, i would run across all the moas/raptors to kill them, when running from one objective to the next. There are quite alot.

The Rowanwoods in Caledon Forest have a herd of raptors that used to annoy the hell out of me when I tried harvesting the lettuce there with my low-level characters. Slay a few of them for me, will you?^^

Having been dazed enough times by those sods, I’m in full agreement. Mine some poultry nodes for me, too, OP!

The level of the moas/raptors doesn’t matter to me but the accessibility of the “poultry node” does, so the Bloodtide Coast suggestions work best for me! Just for you, though, RQ at al, I’m going to detour to the Rowanwoods right now and clear the raptors a few times, that’ll learn ’em

While we wait for ANet to fix the audio bug, I just thought I’d create this thread to appreciate the lighter side of things.

Running around Bloodtide Coast for today’s dailies, a few players worked out over mapchat that not only were we hearing shouts from across the entire map, but it felt like we were tuned to a few specific players (of course, coincidence =/= correlation etc etc) – one player said they mostly heard the same “For Great Justice!”, another two said they got a lot of “Turret Up”. So – if we assume that you’re randomly “tuned in” to the shouts from a few other players on the map – what is your shout radio picking up today?

For most of my journey through Bloodtide Coast, I was accompanied by the voice of a female mesmer running Mantra of Pain. “Agony, torment, pain!”

https://i.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/related/2s7bku/debunked_claim_that_kdb_daewoo_has_never_been/.compact

“These claims simply wrong. Lets review the written record. There have been 21 reports on NCsoft released since GW2 launched in August 2012. Of those, the following 8 mention a prediction for an expansion:
December 18, 2012 — “Furthermore, we expect NCsoft to release an expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 in Europe and the US in 2H13.”
February 6, 2013 — “An expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 is slated for a 2H release in the US and Europe.”
April 25, 2013 — “…the release of the Guild Wars 2 expansion pack has been pushed back to 2014 from 2013.”
August 16, 2013 — “We believe the market will start to reflect the strong earnings momentum for 2014, underpinned by: 1) the launch of the Guild Wars 2 expansion pack, …”
October 11, 2013 — “An expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 is also set to go on sale in 2014.”
November 18, 2013 — “Looking further ahead in 2H14, the expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 is due to be released in the US and Europe…”
April 25, 2014 — “In 2015, the company is expected to launch the expansion pack for Guild Wars 2…”
January 8, 2015 — “Also, in 2015, NCsoft is expected to roll out an expansion pack for Guild Wars 2…”
The pattern is pretty clear. KDB has always written that an expansion pack is a year out from the date of the report. As time passes and it becomes obvious there will not be an expansion, they push back the target. When it was clear that 2H14 wasn’t happening by the time of their April 2014 report, they pushed their date back to 2015."

[Trading Post] Ectoplasm Price Dip

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nyctalopia.4735

nyctalopia.4735

I just replied to someone on the other ecto thread who believed that there was an influx of cheap ecto coming in from artificers assembling them out of essences of luck. Now obviously he was patently wrong about the source of the ectoplasm, but he did bring to my attention that there’s been an influx of cheap supply.

Globs of ectoplasm have gone into a (relatively) steep decline over the past week, which has been great for crafters, luck salvagers and dust salvagers, and has lowered profit margins from salvagers (which I feel to be a GOOD thing). Thing is, I can’t really account for why the price has dropped.

Sell listings are up this week, obviously; the last time ectoplasm hit 40s we had around 55k on the market, and now we’re up to 78k. At this point in time, though, I’m scratching my head as to the reason why it’s gone up.

Is it the Silverwastes? Is an increase in interest in SW contributing to more rare drops and therefore more ectoplasm entering the market?

Don’t forget we had an influx of cheap ecto’s from mesmers combining EoLs due to new dailies.

Uhm are you saying that essences of luck affect the ectoplasm market? Because artificers can’t make ectoplasm out of EoLs. I would posit that ectoplasm consumption goes into crafting or dust-salvaging rather than luck.

oh man if artificers could generate ecto out of essences of luck

so many markets would be affected wow

There’s no duplicity in this. The odds are spaded just a link or two from the page Wanze linked at the top of the thread, including a distribution of the promotions. It’s about making your own calculated risks knowing the odds and the price points.

Instead of thinking about this in terms of getting “duped”, why don’t you think of this as a data point, and move on?

200 stacks of green planks isn’t really very much. But let’s take it as a data point!

The advantage of making your own spreadsheet is so that you can project the value-per-SP based on current prices as well as your forge average. So if your forge average has given you a consistent 69, enter that into your future spreadsheet calculations when deciding the pricepoints at which to buy T1 and those at which to sell the resulting T2. Hopefully that should allow you to turn a profit next time you go into this market.

Wow Wanze, you’re sounding a bit more harsh than usual on this topic today!

To Azure and anyone else with more skillpoints than they know what to do with, I recommend you take about half an hour to make a quick spreadsheet for yourself to compare profit-per-skillpoint on bronze-to-iron, green-plank-to-soft-plank and jute-bolt-to-wool-bolt conversion, such that all you have to do is enter the price you’re buying ore/logs/scraps at and the price you’re selling the resultant ingots/planks/bolts.

Here’s a very rudimentary example.

Vayne is very charitable when he talks about good writing.

I feel uncomfortable thinking of “divide” and “baby parts” in the same sentence. And the metaphor is kind of mixed, since clearly the intent of the analogy is the urge us not to focus too much on the living story or the revenue stream to the point where we neglect WvW and PvP game modes, but what are the dev team and the players doing in that baby, I’d like to know…

/offtopic

That aside I agree with the OP that the game is well-made because of many important components. I would say that each component caters to different (but overlapping) subsets of players, and I would like to join in the spirit of his post by reminding everyone that WvW, dungeons, and PvP would like some love even as we enjoy the latest installments of the LS.

Don’t relist. Relax. If your price was reasonable, it will be bought sooner or later. The size of the GW2 market sometimes surprises me – sometimes I put up a sell listing thinking “no one’s ever going to get that!” and then a month later I get a surprise chunk of gold in my TP box.

If you’re not frequently at a TP, just use the link I posted above, and it should help you check whether the tonic has sold (you’d see the sell price go up). Sure, the guy who undercut you will sell first, but in the bigger scheme of things it’s not going to matter.

I remember once someone said (in response to the accusation that flippers were such greedy gougers that they would only ever put up sell listings) that people who put up sell listings instead of selling to buy orders were providing a service to those who wanted to get things immediately.

In a similar vein, anyone running the forge promotion is providing a service to the economy – by creating a demand for high-level masterworks, and subsequently through great personal effort creating a supply for high-level rares to supplement that already provided by crafting.

Anyway, I made my first 500g through this method starting out with only 10g to begin with. It’s not very fast, but it doesn’t take much effort, and is nice to do while you’re feeling idle, and you can do other things – dungeons, other PVE, WvW, just having fun – while waiting for your buy orders to fill.

Rare daggers, rare axes, rare staves and rare swords are all good alternative markets to aim for if you’re tired of the greatsword-mania. Velocity of these markets are relatively high, and so is the return-on-investment.

The ecto market is also a consistent earner, but it’s got a lower margin now that you can’t put in buy listings for below [vendor+TP tax].

You do realize that prior to the Wardrobe Change, you wouldn’t even had the option to use it again, right? Anet made a change in the game to allow you more options to use an item you purchased with gems but you want to complain about transmutation charges?

BTW, there are methods in the game to obtain T-Charges without RL money costs.

Simplest method (if you dislike buying transmutation charges): make a new character, map-complete all the racial cities. Rinse and repeat. If you’ve got all character slots filled for the time being, purchase an extra as an investment – if you feel like you’re going to change your outfit a lot, the infinite transmutation charges are worth it. It doesn’t take long – DR and Hoelbrak are particularly quick and painless.
