Zerg trains in Queensdale

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

I think everyone who voiced their advice in this thread on how to best troll the champion zerg in Queensdale should be banned from the game.
It’s one thing to play the game and do events, but intentionally disrupting dozens of players for the “lulz” should definitely be a bannable offense.

If a zerg is running around helping people run champion events for XP and rewards, there’s no issue with it at all, but as soon as someone starts being an kitten about it, then the rules change. People like you run around in a zerg and then scream at others for breaking your precious chain, not giving a care in the world for the fact that the person doing it might be new to the game and completely confused about what is going on.
Arenanet sure as hell isn’t going to do anything about the people verbally harassing others for some perceived slight, so it’s up to the players to do something about it.

The ones who should be banned are the idiots in the zerg that start hurling insults when someone does something that doesn’t fit their myopic view of how the game should be played.

…we were talking about trolls.

Which, so far, in this thread have been pretty much defined as anyone who doesn’t give a 3 page glowing review of GW2 along with kid-glove “feedback”.

I agree that trolls on forums are bad, but this thread contains a whole lot of thinly veiled commentary that is nothing more than “anything negative is trolling and people should be banned for it”.

Incorrect UI characters

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I’m asking this here because after filing bug reports and such I’ve never received a single reply on the matter and can only assume that Arenanet doesn’t consider it their problem.

On the UI, in various locations, such as when I have a mob targeted, the hyphens/bullets between things get converted to ASCII characters other than what they are supposed to be showing as.

For example:

• displays as É

This isn’t limited to the selected target window, but also shows up in the crafting lists window when using a crafting station, as well as other areas in the game.

Does anyone else have this issue, or has anyone experienced it but found a fix for it?

Thanks

Where did they get it *right* for you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

Inspite of a few core problems that I have *cough*precursors*cough*, I think I should state for the record, and much to the shock of a few people here, that I do not think I wasted my money on the expansion.

I also think that I’m not the only person in this situation.

So, that being said, I pose the question: While you may be unhappy with some aspects of this expansion, what makes the expansion worth it for you?

For me, I can think of several things that make me feel I got my $50 worth.

1. In spite of my misgivings about only getting 4 new PvE zones, Anet did make them really large on the XY, and actually found a way to deliver quite well on the Z axis. Gliding makes a huge difference, as I expected to be stuck using only specific paths through the trees.

2. Personal story dialog. It’s not just that we have these conversations with NPC’s in world now (no more face to face cut scene), but have you noticed that if you’re a human and you talk to a norn, your character actually leans back slightly to look up at the Norn, while the Norn looks slightly down to look at you? It’s a little detail, but one that stood out to me.

3. While I feel like some of the progression is slower, I haven’t yet run into “grind” when it comes to doing what I need to do in Verdant Brink (I’ve only gone into Auric Basin so far for a quick look around, but haven’t been anywhere else). I am a little frustrated by how you have to balance getting XP with getting Mastery Points, but I’m learning the process, and it doesn’t feel “grindy” (yet). From my level 3 perspective, I actually think the gating is ok, and is, to me, acceptable in the realm of “content stretchin” (I might change my mind in the future, but for now, I’m happy with it.)

4. New models. I appreciate the fact that Anet didn’t just go through and reskin current mob models, but went and created a whole group of new ones, with their own mechanics and so on. I’ve played games where new zones had re-skinned old content, and it just takes something major away from it all. The new models are great, and in some instance, in my opinion, humorous and whimsical (mushroom soldiers, etc.)

5. Specializations aren’t forced. I don’t have to turn my ranger into a Druid in order to do things (as far as I know). I may need to do it in order to use a ranger in a raid, but that is content that hasn’t been delivered yet.

6. It’s somewhat self conflicting, but I do like the precursor crafting process and how there is no progression towards legendary weapons. My main complaint is the gold cost, and even that might change, depending on the economy.

Anyway, that’s why I’m not on the “refund” wagon. Yes, I’m a bit burned by the precursor crafting costs, but it’s not a game wrecker for me.

So, to all you who have complaints about HoT, but aren’t quitting.. What DO you like?

Official Feedback Thread: Episode 4 -- Head of the Snake

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

Feedback:
The story was good. I came out of it with new ideas and new suspicions, and it was very entertaining.
The new zone however leaves a lot to be desired. Once you finish the story, there is almost no reason at all to ever go back into Lake Doric. Normally I would follow up the story with doing the renown hearts, and zone completion, except that 2 of the Points of Interest, as well as what appears to be one vista and one mastery point are all inaccessible solo unless you are on a class that has lengthy stealth skills.
The mobs in Lake Doric are almost all cut and paste from Bloodstone Fen. Frankly, a lot of this “new” zone is cut and paste. They didn’t even bother to change the voice acting for the training area on the south west side. It’s just a replication of Claypool in Queensdale.
If exploration of the new zone followed the mechanics of other living story zones (i.o.w. NOT the Heart of Thorns zones), I’d spend a lot of time going through the 15+ characters I have and completing it on each one, but since “challenging group content” has taken precedence over exploration… well.. nothing to be done anymore.
Bloodstone Fen was good. Ember Bay was amazing. Bitterfrost Frontier was challenging but a lot of fun.
Lake Doric? Nope.

Universal Gobbler

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

We have gobblers for ascended material (a few different ones), and if I recall there’s one for karma?

My idea is this: A Universal Gobbler that is coded on Anet’s side to allow them to easily change what the thing eats. Still outputs an item like other gobblers that double-clicks into a piece of armor/weapon, a crafting mat, and a junk item.

Why/how it would be useful: This would allow Anet to do soft-balancing on certain materials where there may be so many on the market that they are practically vendor value, or items that are account bound that pile up (Airship Maintenance Oil anyone?)

An example would be: Tuesday hits and users log into find out that the universal gobbler is interested in consuming Barbed Thorns (currently at around 18c with a supply of 3million+). Players could then put 4 or 5 stacks of Barbed Thorns into their inventory, and the gobbler would consume them and spit out a bag of some sort.

A stack of thorns is currently 38.25silver, and, at least in my experience, the output of the gobbler bags is usually around 5 to 8 silver worth of material, with the occasional surprise.

Let’s say that a week later, Barbed Thorns are around a silver a piece, because so many have been eaten. Anet could then switch the gobblers desires to something like Airship Maintenance Oil, or Tiny Totems, or whatever they determine could use some supply reduction. It could include the entire range. Crafting mats, essence of luck, account bound items, and so on, but only one item type consumed.

I’m no lore person, so this is probably completely wrong, but a backstory idea for it might be something like “hey boss! remember that chak organ? It doesn’t just consume magic!”… and let it go from there.

Legendary vs. legendary!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

I’ve been working towards my legendary for a couple weeks. Not very long, and I don’t have much to show for it, though I’m half way to the total BoH I need, and I’ve collected a LOT of wood.
That being said, I’ve been seriously reconsidering due to a couple factors that are along the lines of what the OP is talking about.
Gathering 250 each of the T6 mats is pretty much an exercise in insanity. It’s not impossible, but I wonder what percentage of legendary owners actually just bought most of theirs. I farm for a couple hours in different zones on nights when I want to really push things, and generally wind up with maybe 10 of the T6 items, and perhaps 25 of the T5’s. With limited time amounts, that’s just a long way to go time-wise.
The other thing is stats. Right now you pay for a skin. BFD. It’s a skin, several of which are ridiculous, and some of which aren’t all that special when it comes to effects. That aspect is fine, but the stats that come with them bring legendaries down to the level of standard skins.
Legendary weapons should be legendary in all aspects, including stats, and instead of having Anet give them some set of stats that no-one uses. It would be better if legendaries had 3 “legendary attribute slots”, where, much like infusions, you would place in special gems that imbue the weapon with the stats you pick, AND the number those attributes add would be at least 2 points higher than any other weapon in the game.
That would make them a little more worth the effort.

Retrospective: "Is It Fun?" Article

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

More importantly, it’s rather clear that ArenaNet is measuring success through metrics. Do you guys remember:

  • When ArenaNet was asked if they were ever going to fix Char and Asura bad armor textures? And ArenaNet said they wouldn’t, because very few people play as one of those races? Is that measuring the success of the Char and Asura based on how fun they are, or based on metrics?
  • When ArenaNet asked a designer to overhaul the Ascalon Catacombs dungeon so less people would farm there? And when the dungeon was changed, and less people farmed there, and thus (obviously) less people played there, that designer was fired? Was that measuring the success of the dungeon based on how fun it is, or on metrics of how many people played it?
  • When ArenaNet introduced log in rewards? Were those introduced because they make the game more fun? Or because they were meant to increase the number of unique log ins each day, which is an important metric?
  • When ArenaNet asked people to grind the Silvewastes and Dry Top for beta access? Was that because grinding for a lot of time knowing most players would not get a portal is fun? Or because ArenaNet wanted to have metrics showing a lot of people playing on those two maps?

So, how do you guys think ArenaNet measures success today? Based on how fun GW2 is?

The defenders aren’t going to like that at all. Prepare a flame suit.

BL Chest: Essense of luck? Really?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

those chests really need to feel more like a chest of goodies. Like, you open it and out pops like 5 random cheap things (such as essence of luck, bag of alliance supplies, crafting materials, booster, …) and 1 random expensive thing (such as a key, rev orb, perma contract, repair canister, ticket scrap, …)
currently, opening it feels so meh because it’s crappy things and 1 crappier thing and rare rare chance of something useful. If you opened it and got a lot of crappy stuff, that at least feels like a lot. Wouldn’t you prefer a chest that gave 8 greens items, 1-3 of each metal ore, and 3 × 50 essence of luck to one that has a 1 in 10 chance to give an exotic item and a 9 in 10 to give a blue item?

I’ve opened probably a total of 35 chests since I started in Nov. 2012. Ten of those were from keys I recieved from opening black lion chests, another 10 were from a time before I realized buying keys was a complete waste of gems. I have yet to get anything of value from a chest.
Given, it’s only 35 of them, but I’m sure as hell not going to waste more money on keys. I’ll use them if I get a drop, but that’s it. A slot machine at a shady casino is a better chance than a BLC

It's not the lack of a trinity

Neural.1824

Meanwhile, in GW2, no-one needs a 400. Because just about everyone is either already at 400, or will be in a couple hours of work. Crafted items are sold pretty much at material cost.
I would love for crafting to be a real part of this game, and not just an occasional easy-daily or extra XP boost for when you want to level a character. I highly doubt that we’ll ever see it go beyond that though. I don’t think Arenanet is capable of doing something like that, and even if they could, I don’t think the care enough to do so.

the problem is easy to fix though. When I thought about it… You know how jewelcrafters can have recipes drop in TA and Arah for rings that are bloody expensive? Why not to add special dungeon skins for weapons and armor that are not buyable with tokens, but rather you would have to finish all paths of that dungeon and buy the recipe with tokens, however that said recipe for a weapon piece or an armor piece would cost more tokens than an exotic armor piece and would also cost a certain amount of tokens to make? That way if the skin is awesome enough we have a system for making sellable awesome skins whose recipes are hard to get, therefore not every crafter would go trough the trouble of getting them, meaning that the crafter that does get it could sell it for a high price?

I suppose we sort of have that with the MF recipes.
Arenanet should make some of the MF recipes require 400 in a set of trades. For instance, the Mystic Staff. Require Artificing 400, Huntsman 400, and Weaponsmithing 400 (3 weapon related trades).

AFK Farmers in Silverwastes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

To be completely honest OP, I’ve even seen people announce that they will afk in front of red rock… guilds even. Also please note these afkers are more than likely Necro minion masters or rangers, I’d get more into the details but I don’t want to explain more on the subject.

Remember the battle for Lion’s Arch? People, entire zergs would afk at the way point next to the exit to get a free reward. Can’t speak for anet, but a few people were punished for doing that from time to time.

Arenanet has had plenty of situations over the past 2 years in which to wake up and realize that giving out rewards for failure and attendance are detrimental to gameplay. Yet they refuse to change. It’s as if they want people to collect rewards while AFK, no matter how much damage it does to the game.
My first night, which was just this week, in Silverwastes was a lot of fun, and at one point in the mess I went to the entry waypoint and stood at the vendor while I grabbed dinner really quickly. When I got back, I was shocked to find a reward chest shaking away in the lower right of my screen. I still haven’t figured out what it was from, but I know I’d completed all other events before I went to get food.
Now, I’m not going to turn down free sand, but still, we shouldn’t be getting rewards for just standing around.

And since this topic is, in fact, about the precursor crafting they talked about back in 2013, then these posts are very much on topic.

That is exactly what they did. They knew back at the end of 2013 that there was going to be an xpac, and they decided to take one of the most heavily desired QoL changes and shove it into the xpac so they could charge for it. They couldn’t get enough people to pay real cash for precursors on the TP, so they came up with a new way to do it.

Ironically, I metal detect. And I do my very best to go to areas where no one is around. I bring my dogs. Three or four of them. But, almost without fail, someone, usually someone curious, shows up. I could be in an area, and have been, with eight ball fields . . . and yet a guy or two will decide to play in the one I’m in.

Every freakin’ time.

While I never go to an area where people are playing or gathered already, I more often than not find myself leaving the area if too many people also show up suddenly.

It isn’t worth the aggravation. So, just like in game, I go to another area to enjoy myself without the distraction of rubberneckers or those eager to call the police because they don’t understand what I’m doing.

Again, that just makes sense.

On a side note, I’ve made quite a few friends with the cops who come to investigate and ask if I’ve found anything interesting before they leave me in peace.

It’s like when you have a nice car, so you park way out in the parking lot in the middle of nowhere (on a cold windy day no less), and you come out and there’s people parked right next to you.

Leather Farm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

That’s a rather cherry-picked conclusion. I could as easily conclude that it’s as if the developers at Anet completely understand how their RNG loot system works. The way you present your post, it seems you believe that the system works badly and that Anet can’t see that. You completely excluded the idea that it works exactly as Anet intends it to and that you’re idea of what is bad or good doesn’t really play into how Anet designs the game.

Read it again, the whole thing.

They just put in and entire area in a new map as a supposed answer to fixing the price issue with leather, and through implementation of the RNG system they supposedly understand, they killed the purpose of it.

It’s entirely possible that they do know how it works, but if that is true, then the whole story that this is some sort of “leather farm” is a facade put up to give players the impression that Anet is providing a solution to the problem, when all they are doing is adding another source where players won’t get what they are after.

As has been stated before, people have spent an hour there and only gotten a very unimpressive amount of T6 leather, which will result in players saying “never mind” and going back to Silverwastes or whatever pops up to replace the AB multi-loot. They’ll go back to simply making gold in one of the far more efficient ways, and buy the leather outright.

The end result is leather prices stay the same, and this brand new area that took who knows how many hours for devs to develop, will remain a place where people only go to grab the two points of interest for zone completion.

[PvP] Down-state Evaluation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The downed state is very likely a permanent fixture in GW2 due to it’s function in PvP. It is not there to provide you with an escape, it’s not there for your friends to rez you, it is there to provide the enemy player with the ability to stomp, which is nothing more than a power trip that most of the player-base gets off on. The act of murdering a helpless individual makes them giddy, and the downed state provides the closest thing they can get to non-consensual PvP. This is exacerbated by the fact that you can stomp anyone in a downed state, even if you did no damage to them at all, so even people who don’t PvP very well at all can “feel the power” and get the thrill of taking someones life without having to fire off a single shot.

New Guild Missions are bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I’m adding my voice to everyone else here. Anet have successfully taken something that wasn’t broken and fixed it into oblivion. It’s just terrible on every level. I get that Anet love and worpship the power of RNG but do we really need to rely on its rarely benevolent hand to decide what activities our guild is going to partake in each week?

Frankly the OP nailed it with what he said. Even if the missions weren’t bugged to the Underworld and back, the increased limitations and lack of choice for guilds would still make this awful. Especially lowering rewards for choosing a category of play that a guild may actually have built its community around.

Lord in heaven, stop it with the hamfisted attempts at social engineering and just let your playerbase play instead of punishing them for not doing what you want. I get it, you’re in love with the idea of esports but, Gretchen, stop trying to make esports happen. It’s not going to happen. Between the first week of missions “just happening” to “randomly” roll a straight set of PvP missions and the penalty to rewards for choosing one game mode it really does feel less like fun guild community time and more like Anet’s attempts to shove its playerbase where it doesn’t want to be.

+1 Well said and very accurate.

The new guild missions set up is the perfect example of “if it’s not broken, fix it ’til it is.”

ALL Mobs should use boons...

Hard to tell if thread is serious or not. Adding boons to mobs is a good idea, but seems to me most people here just want to beat their chest about how superior they are to all the other players. Maybe try focusing on the topic instead of spewing hate and vitriol towards the casuals? Probably too hard.

Can we get World PvP?

in Suggestions

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

It wouldn’t be too hard – just make 3 factions at level 80 that are all at war with eachother, and players can only join 1 of them… Aaaaaand, if anyone doesn’t want to join in world PvP, they just don’t join one of the factions. Hmm?? Hmm??

Riiight. Open world optional PvP, where everyone has to listen to you smack-talk to the person you just “pwned”.

Spam Chat Problems....

I do like the idea of not receiving whispers from people who aren’t mutual friends. That is a worthy suggestion, in and of itself, regardless of the gold selling scum.

Frankly, I would agree with those of you who feel that way, and I do see the value of that. In my line of work, it wouldn’t be the best thing. But for most players, yep, it’s something I believe could make a good QoL change.

But I wanted to ask a question: How would you build a friend list without whispers? Or maybe I’m more wondering how would you discuss adding someone, mutually, without whispers? Open chat?

A) it should be an option to block whispers.
B) 90% or more of the friends I have in game I met via party/squad/guild chat.

I don’t believe for a moment that he has any “good” intention.

At the very least, he needs our help to fight the dragons, so that he can then move forward with his plan to wipe us out (which he can’t do with the dragons in the way).

Legendary Armor: Feedback [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

That’s the intent. Anet did as little as possible to make the appearance of the armor unique, added the features to make it Legendary, and will then go back to pushing outfits.

That theory is erroneous since the Legendary Armor will provide unique pompous effects that won’t be visible unless you use the skin.

The product has to be viable on some level, but I don’t think moving parts are going to change that many peoples opinions about the medium and light armor. I mean, up until this release, Ascended gear was pretty darn prestigious if you were into having best stats, but I don’t see that many people using the skins. As with all the skins, there are people that like them a lot (I happen to like the medium ascended armor chest/legs/boots), but when the player base has been saying for a long time that they don’t want anymore trench coats, and Anet turns around and delivers a trench coat for the most anticipated armor release in the game…. yeah.. they want people to make the gear, then buy an outfit to cover it.

Congratulations on finishing the set, but I can not more strongly disagree with any sets in the future being account bound. Not unless Anet changes and guarantees a ticket scrap in every chest.
Locking people into having to gamble for something they want is simply wrong.

1) The cash shop is a non-starter. It literally has nothing to do with product quality. It’s a revenue stream. If a company is putting out cheap, lazy content… they’d be doing the same thing with a sub-model or expansions.

I have to disagree here. The cash shop has everything to do with product quality. They have the option of retaining players by putting out cheap gimmicky “buy it now” products that act just like fads, or they have the option of producing quality content that retains people for a longer period of time. Anet is clearly going the quick-and-dirty-short-term-cash-now path. I highly doubt that their monetization department looks further than a year into the future. They are the tools for short term minded investors to pull in profits, and, like the investors, couldn’t care less about the players experience. We are simply suckers to them.

The Fan focus is a beautiful skin, and as designed might actually have some re-usability. (decorate it differently).
I think 400gems would have been more appropriate, as it’s an off hand weapon, but meh, if people are willing to pay, then so be it.

Living Story Humor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I’m going to drop this here because it will retain a better chance at being seen by the folks at Arenanet, as it is directed more at them.

Currently there is a popular thread on Reddit in which dozens of players are making a stink over how much “humor” there is integrated into the living story episode dialogs.

You know what? [redacted]

Everyone here knows there’s a lot I think that Anet does wrong, but on this one I’m going to stand with what they have chosen to do. I have enjoyed the dialog in the Living Story episodes for some time now, and the light hearted nature of it is often something I look forward to in upcoming story segments.

Taimi is a strong point here. Her attitude, quips, and sarcasm are undoubtedly something that breaks the over all gloom and doom that the story carries.

If I want a tense, doom filled story that is carefully balanced and all serious, I’ll read a book. With all the hoops we have to jump through to get some of the things we want in this game, the Living Story is a pleasant break from what some would call a grind.

To be able to sit back, do some combat, but have a good laugh is one of the things that keeps me playing this game in spite of how much I’m at odds with its maker.

“That horribly disgusting body part of an even more horribly disgusting giant bug you keep in a despicable blighting pod fluid?
Yes, I remember, despite desperately trying to forget.”

That quote from Taimi’s Game was one of the funniest moments I’ve had when playing a game such as this.

And yes, I think the consistency of the humor has been delivered perfectly, so I don’t think it needs to be reduced in any fashion.

"Fixed" Monk Outfit - Updated July 28th

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

Yes, the item has been reintroduced to the Gem Store. I will pass along your input regarding the corrected outfit.

Honestly Gaile, there shouldn’t need to be player input regarding the issue of the legs simply being invisible above the thigh. Anyone in QA using a test server should have been able to see the transparency issue. If the test environment doesn’t display this issue, then there is one of the major problems in the first place. Discrepancies between the test are and live.
It’s not that the players are all running around looking up skirts, but all you have to do is go for a swim and you are presented with that angle and it becomes painfully obvious that there are issues.

The work done on this outfit is poorly done, and poorly executed. It’s not worth remotely what people are paying for it, and the player base deserves content that is at much better.

QA needs to do more than just a quick 360spin on the models and say “ok, ready to go”.

New outfit trend!!!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

Outfits are just a sing of Anet’s mindset: Fast cash fast.

They don’t want to spend the time to make a polished game with armor that doesn’t clip, so they go the quick and dirty route and make entire outfits that can’t be split up into armor pieces.

 Who can blame them, they are making millions of dollars doing it. The game majority is comprised of people who don’t care or don’t know any better, and until they change their minds and close their wallets, we will continue to get the cheap and easy solutions.
