It adds to the “play your way” concept, for starters. Gives people options on what they want to do in order to unlock a given mastery.
Crying for them to be limited is just another form elitism.

Right now, there are at least 3 threads on the front page complaining about “farming” and “zergs”. Same applies to Reddit.
And yet, at the same time, there are other threads where-in people are being told “go play another game” because they want solo content.

So is this a “massively multiplayer” game or not? You tell people who want solo content to quit and find another game…. but then you get out the torches and pitch forks when a group of people get together and play the content as a group.

I hope that Anet has the insight to just ignore most of these type of threads. It’s like no-one plays GW2 anymore, but instead spends their time trying to convince Arenanet that people should be forced to play the way they think it should be played.

Black Lion Keys are pretty simple.

Don’t buy them unless you are willing to lose every single time.

You could buy hundreds of them and not get anything good. That’s how Anet makes money, they prey upon the weakness of gambling addiction.

Chris, I’ll state this under a flag of truce, as I’m considered a troll by many.
I do not feel the need to explain my emotions/outbursts/commentary, because I am not going to research all my own posts and write a book on why I feel as I do. I think overall it should be obvious to most that I am primarily unhappy about two things. Primarily the monetization of the game, secondly, the crafting process (from gathering to finished product).

For now though, I will set aside my opinions of the Arenanet staff, and take your words at face value, giving you the benefit of the doubt.

If you asked me what I want out of GW2, and if you gave me just one thing to choose out of the many I could come up with. What one thing would I change?

I’d like to play GW2 and not feel like I was in a rat maze where every dead end was the gem store.
I want to log in and play the game, and not feel like I’m constantly under the shadow of ulterior motives to drive me to spend RL money. I’ve spent plenty of money on vanity items and perma-gathering tools, etc. But (I can hear them now, Vayne and everyone are going “oh god, here he goes again”), when I step out of Lion’s Arch to focus on crafting something, I want to move towards it with confidence. Confidence that I can gather those materials I need, that I can seek out their sources and if necessary farm those sources until I have what I need. I don’t want to feel like getting 250 Armored Scales is impossible compared to farming gold to buy them. In the long run, that is what I wound up doing. I farmed scarlet invasions and before that the Crown Pavillion until I had 300gold with which I simply bought the remaining T6 mats that I needed for my legendary gifts, simply because it is unrealistic to play casually and gather 250 of each material the traditional way. I’d like to gather the materials without feeling like I’m taxed 15% to do so. I’d like to adventure my way to a legendary. Not buy my way. Not gamble my way. I’m probably the only person on Yak’s Bend that thinks Ascended Weapons crafting is the best thing to happen to crafting ever in this game. You can gather materials reliably, without Diminishing Returns limiting you. If I want to take my characters and run through all the zones in the game 8 times to gather all the soft wood logs that I can get, I can do that.
The time gating is perfect, because it regulates the overal time it takes to get a weapon, but it’s set. There is no mystical number attached to it that says I can’t make them at normal pace because I’ve made to many recently. I can sit down, open an excell spreadsheet, plug in numbers, and know exactly what I have to do and how long it will take. It’s a set path, and unlike Legendaries, there is very little gimmicky RNG stuff involved with it. I’m not even to 500 yet on my first profession (because T6 mats are hard to get, thus I am not crafting exotics very fast), but I feel like I am progressing as I see the Empyrial stars piling up, and the Bloodstone Bricks, and so on.
With Legendary crafting, it took me several months to get a couple of the main components, and I really really enjoyed it, because the parts I was working on involved world completion, and other aspects of the game that I’d not tried. I still don’t like PvP and WvW, but I did it. that Gift of Battle is a major milestone for me.
But then I got to the Gift of Fortune. Suddenly I found my locations limited for options, most of them chained by diminishing returns. I saw my normal playstyle bringing in approximately two T6 material items per hour, sometimes 4 if I was lucky. For a casual player such as myself, finishing my legendary suddenly stretched out to a years worth of time if I didn’t start farming specifically for gold to buy materials.
Which brings us back to gold. So much of the game seems focused on getting players to obtain gold one way or another, with the gem-store looming in the background like a steroids dealer in the shadows beckoning to the dejected athlete that just wants to finish a race.

I know this rambles, and may not get read, but it is here. If I whittle all my wishes down to just one thing, I want to feel like the gem-store is a place I go to because I want to look better or buy neat things. Not like it’s hiding around every corner trying to convince me that if I just take a pill, my life will be better.

OP, you do realize that adding flying mounts isn’t just as simple as throwing some wings on a Dolyak and having players download it, right?

You have to code the physics for it. How does the mount react when hitting a cliff face, does it fall? does it keep afloat? What happens when you try to land in water? does it sink?
What happens to rangers pets? You have to code auto-stowing of pets. Do a necromancers minions automatically pop out again upon landing?
And what about all those mountain tops in places like Lornar’s Pass and Timberline Falls? You know, the ones that need to have collision areas added to them.
And don’t forget that when you go from zone to zone, you have to currently use a portal. Do you honestly believe they put those in just because they thought they were cool? How will the players react to “you’ve hit a strong air current and can’t progress” every time they hit a zone border? Because the devs certainly aren’t going to restructure the entire foundation of the game just so you can fly freely from one zone to another.
Oh, and if they do, maybe they can direct all the complaints about zone crossing crashes, stuttering, and lag to your personal mail box.

Arenanet needs to hire it’s playerbase to write living story content. Scarlett is evil and all, but this is pure gold.

The RNG and grind in GW2 is mind-numbing. NCSoft and Anet are obsessed with squeezing as much money out of the playerbase as possible in the shortest amount of time. The end result is a game that comes across as kitten in the “finished product” department, and a loot system and economy built soley on the push to get players to open their wallets. For the majority who fall on the “lose” side of the kitten RNG, everything is a grind. Want T6 mats? Grind gold to buy them. Want a special skin? Grind gold to buy it. Want a mini? Grind gold to buy it.
The entire game is focused on forcing people to grind for gold, and it is deliberately designed that way. They are creating a high pressure environment where the only thing that matters is gold, because psychologically it has been proven to bring in more real cash.
You know why we don’t have a large number of emotes/animations? Because they were seen as superfelous to the end goal of making money. They were additional development work that was seen as “no cash flow”. Same applies for fixing a number of QoL issues. The Monetization Lords see it as a waste of time because players aren’t leaving the game over it and it doesn’t bring in more money.
By design everything is forced into being an issue of gold. Diminishing Returns is not about bots, it never has been. It’s about limiting loot drops so that players need more gold to buy the items they want, because needing more gold is another pressure to open the wallet and just buy gold.
Then there’s the “urgency” pressure. They introduce gem and gold valued items that are only a round for a short period of time. “buy now, or miss out!”. People feel pressure to open their wallet to get that item they want. RNG plays a massive part in this. “Buy black lion keys with gems and you could get a Black Lion Claim Ticket!”. Anet is actively, and knowingly, feeding off of people who have money and don’t know they have a gambling addiction. It’s worse than gambling, in fact, because all the items are virtual and have no real value. So people are not even gambling real money to get a possible cash prize.
Every aspect of it works together to apply as much pressure as possible on the players to pay real money.

Yes, Anet needs to make money to stay in business. What they are doing however is abuse. It needs to stop.

How about anet actually produces the content that we PAID FOR?

They could offer me a free Legendary of my choice, but it will not entice me to ever purchase early again. They simply are incapable of delivering on their word.

Here is a perfect example of why RNG is just garbage.

I just finished Dragons Reach: part 2. In fact, my partner died half way through the final battle, and I got to solo a dragon by myself.

In the end I get a bright shiny box called “Summit Hero’s Reward”.

It’s contents?

3 Obsidian Shards
7 Globs of Globby Gloop
2 Spikes
2 Potent Venom Sacs
1 Large fang

That is INSULTING in it’s level of “reward”

The ability to craft precursors would be a good feature. Make them account bound if people are worried about crashing some “markets”. For people worried about their items being “devalued”, make the craftable ones look like white items of the same type without the fancy effects even, I don’t care really.

The ascended stats and the stat switching ability is mainly the reason for me. It would certainly let me play different builds without lugging around too much stuff.

Or perhaps treat all ascended weapons as precursors. Upgrading to legendary status will be through crafting where all the craft materials are account bound.

They should just make new legendaries have craftable precursors and the existing ones have RNG precursors.

Even if I agreed with this, which I don’t, Anet has been deceptive and outright cruel in their wording regarding to precursor crafting. It’s as if they are trying to make the user-base quit.

Seriously: Not only is this a bad move, it is not exactly promoting health and well being in terms of community. When people aren’t gutting others because they don’t dodge as perfectly as Mr. Elitist warrior, they are screaming about people using condition.
I can think of two people in my guild who are very casual players who are going to basically skip this entire segment. Heck, of the two level 80’s my wife has, both are condition builds, and being that she only plays a few hours a week.

Sure, just throw money into the system and buy a new outfit with weapons. That is not something that should be required if you want to effectively participate in the game events. If Anet is going to do that, they should just make the living story “Ascended Only” and start at the end of the road they are going down.

Again, this isn’t about sprockets, it’s about the extra items you get themselves, and the lack of alternative picks that give you the same chance.

I’m pretty sure that Anet is betting on the forum being a ‘small minority" that they can ignore with their P2W scheme. People need to get the word out to their guilds and get non-forum players to speak up as well. Sadly it is likely that Anet has already calculated that risk and found they can get away with it, otherwise it wouldn’t have been implemented.

Remember, the Devs have said that this year they are going to change GW2 forever in a way that the players did not expect. :/

While the content of RP chat can be a problem, it supports the primary issue of emotes needing to be reworked.

A) Emotes need to not travel nearly as far.
B) The name of the person emoting needs to be interactive for reporting issues.

In the realm of RP, it would simply make it faster to click on a name and choose “report” if there was a content issue.
In trolling issues, it would make it worlds easier to be able to click in the name llililillllilliilllillilliii and report it, than trying to deal with whatever sequence of letters it actually is.

More and more the release stuff like this that, while aesthetically beautiful, has parts that are locked to one color! STOP IT.
Let the players choose the colors for the entire item. the Phoenix glider is great. Very pretty, but that blue section completely clashes with every single one of the characters I have that I’d think to use it for.

This change does nothing in regards to making money or losing money for Arenanet. The typical monetary reasoning behind most of their changes does not exist in this area. Town clothing is static. To go and make changes that only screw the players over like this seems more like deliberate trolling. There is no reason for what they have done, it’s like it was thrown together on a whim to see if they could damage the role playing community.

Well, for one, they may certainly not be done with their plans of adding new skills. Secondly, you can hardly blame them if you go your hopes too high by incorrectly assumptions.

Except that Arenanet habitually uses slight-of-hand in wording their statements about what they are going to do in the game, to maximize the anticipation of new features without actually having to deliver what the players are expecting.

Take precursor crafting for example. They’ve been talking about it, and there’s lots of excitement among the players, but it’s pretty obvious from some statements in one of the precursor threads that what is really going to happen is the implementation of new legendaries and the ability to craft the precursors for only those legendaries.
There are a number of people over the past year that I’ve seen express dissatisfaction with Arenanet’s delivery of changes and additions when compared to the “hype” that was put out in regards to those improvements.

But that’s Arenanet’s choice. If they want to destroy any shred of respect that the players have for their word, they are free to do so. If for some reason they want to retain some standing with their customers, they are going to have to start releasing exact details on their plans, and then follow through and deliver, without any gimmicky word-mincing.

Biggest thing holding me back on buying this isn’t the over-the-top price, it’s the character-bound issue.
If I could use it on any of my characters, I’d have bought one as soon as I found out about them.

Don’t take my ability to help people away, it’s the best part of playing a mesmer for me.

It is the very reason I created a Mesmer in the first place. To help people with difficult jumps (puzzles or not). Given, the character has grown into a lot more than that now, and is my primary WvW character, but the primary purpose hasn’t changed. OP and many others want this to be removed from the game.

No. This is not about the fact that the OP and Anet are both happy with the outcome of this situation. This is about the fact that Anet first attempted to strip the OP of both gold and items, and hoped he wouldn’t complain about it. It is only because of the uproar on Reddit that Anet was forced to go beyond sending him “We’re right, you’re wrong” e-mails and actually do something to rectify the situation in a manner that is fair to the OP.
This is a serious issue that needs to be resolved on Anets side, and other players, as well as potential players, have a right to know that this sort of unethical practice takes place at Anet.

I’m not a fan of the Spinal Blades back pack, but it surprised me that Anet hasn’t yet turned them into a glider skin. It would be pretty popular.

I’m not really seeing how the EotM update won’t be anything but full WvW/open-PvP. Most game devs these days are former PK “elites” so they have that as a foundation for designing games. Pushing PvE players into unwanted PvP content is a common goal.

Every time I see someone complaining about AB multi-loot, I can’t help but wonder how much gold they have tied up in ectoplasm investment.

I think for me it was a situation that was so over the top that all we could do is laugh.

To preface this, please note that not everyone is a zomglighthousebbq game god that can solo level 9001 fractals like 95% of the people seem to be able to.

We had been trying to finish a fractal for quite some time, something like 45minutes to an hour, with a fair share of party wipes and lots of frustration. We finally got to the final champion and started plinking away at him.
His health was only 25% left, we were winning!

They’re saying here NCSoft isn’t giving you enough return on your investment. So they can try to get a block of votes.

But NcSoft isn’t going to sit there and let this pass unchallenged. And most saavy stock holders will know this is a power play anyway.

Stockholders are why we can’t have nice things.

I’ll bet there isn’t 0.1% of shares held by people who have actually played an MMO. Heck, most of them probably don’t even know Guild Wars 2 is part of their investment. All they care about is their ROI. They are too busy jetting around on their Gulfstreams visiting real life exotic locations and full service luxury hotels to ever have the time for a game.

Anet reps (even Colin himself) have flat out said it’s not worth their time to fix all numerous issues with charr and their armor and weapons.

So basically this game is being “developed” by people who refuse to take responsibility for their actions. Lovely.

Simple answer: don’t use them.

Even if the difference in drops is measurable, Anet is releasing more and more loot which is gated behind a specific drop type.
Magic find only affects the first drop type, not the item you get from the bag that dropped.
Every time they put a special item inside a bag, box, or some such container, they are removing magic find from the equation completely.

I’d mark blue/green sigils and runes as junk in a heartbeat, because that’s what they are.

Admitting that Anet had some fault in the matter was a drop in the ocean compared to blaming it on the players. Quite conveniently, from here on out, every time someone complains about the price on a given item, or a change in the pricing, Anet, along with a dozen or so people here on the forum that I could probably list by name, will jump up and say “It’s the players fault.
