I’m more fed up than bored. I log in when I have nothing else to do. Every time I consider actually buying gems, they do something like what they pulled with the Pavilion. I’m a loot person, yes, but what really ticked me off was the removal of the XP from the vets and other mobs.

Haven’t dropped a dime into the gemstore since last summer, and I don’t intend to any time soon. They have stated they have not even considered an expansion, they’ve admitted that China is driving the changes being made on our version of the game (see: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/fotfw/Zephyr-Sanctum-has-no-energy-now/first ), and they are consistently removing loot and gold sources from the game.

It’s almost as if they are intentionally trying to kill the game.

Evidence that I see:
-There have been many complaints over the past year about loot getting nerfed, and gold getting nerfed etc.
-A short while ago, a dev video about Wildstar comes out regarding their raid content, highlighting at least once that loot is a major draw for doing their content.
-Not long after that, GW2 says on their facebook page “hey, Wildstar is in beta, check it out” (translation: go see our competitors game)
-And then finally we have tuesdays “patch”, where in GW2’s supposed open world raid content is pushed out with next to no loot, and dismal XP gain.

Give me a tin foil hat if you want, but I think they are trying to push people away.

Seriously. My main is zerker fit with 6/6/2/0/0 for the traits using both piercing and increased range.

There is a very good reason I don’t take this build into WvW or PvP. That extra range is only on paper. Anyone with half a brain can close that gap faster than you can finish Rapid Fire and swap weapons.

Frankly I think OP is simply trolling.

I hope crafting the precursors are a grind and not something that can be completed in a matter of hours.

I hope that crafting the precursors isn’t a grind deliberately designed to make the player give up, grind gold, and buy off the TP (which is exactly what I suspect it will be).

As opposed to what? The current method of hoping for a drop, luck with the MF…or buying on the TP?

I don’t understand.

There is no point in crafting a precursor if the amount of time invested could be used elsewhere to grind gold to just buy a precursor.

Say for instance you need 800 gold to buy a precursor off the TP, and we’ll say that it takes 10 weeks of grinding gold to make that much (hypothetical here, I have no idea how long it does or doesn’t take to make 800gold).

If the new precursor crafting takes 18 weeks while doing similar activities, then it is stupid to go the new route. Just grind gold for 10 weeks and buy it off the TP.

Personally, from what I’ve seen with Anet, that is exactly what they’ll do. They’ll make the precursor grind so obscene that people will just default to farming gold or, as Anet really wants, opening their wallets to buy gold.

I personally think that the “power creep” has put PvE in a generally good position. I’ve had a LOT of fun over the past year since getting specializations set up on my characters, etc. More fun that I’ve had in the 3 years previous to that.
With that said, I do appreciate the buff to the bosses in lab. about half an hour ago, I was leading in the lab and we had the classic zerg-wipe scenario of Viscount plus Horror, and it was an appropriately difficult fight, in my opinion. We had a couple who fell, but usually the downed were able to pop right back up due to guardians with reflect trait when they rez people, etc. It was a perfect level challenge for a zone that is just festival fun.
As for removing diminishing returns, I have long been against the use of DR in general in the game, so I sincerely hope this is not just a nice gesture, but that Anet is testing to see the kind of impact removing it has. This is the perfect place for it, because a large majority of the items gained are low value, or related to the festival specifically.
But yeah, I’ll say it. Thanks for turning that off.

I love how they call the things legendary, give them effects that belong in visually loud animes and people practically kill themselves trying to get the things.

The illusion of prestige, man. Gets the suckers every time, right square in the wallet and wasted time.

They’ve got you folks pegged. Why should they change anything when many here will complain, but keep throwing cash at gems for gold anyway, or keep throwing loot into the mystic toilet, hoping that today might be their fifteen seconds of ‘glory’.

They haven’t ‘fixed it’ on all these years because our isn’t broken for what they clearly want it to be accomplishing.

Don’t look at what they say or what you think they said – look at what they do, or in this case, don’t do.

Story tells itself. Not much else to be said about it, is there?

What I find interesting is that while Legendaries are such a huge cash cow for Anet, why do they not keep developing them? Why not fix issues with current ones? Why nothing new? Just seems strange to me that they’d let their flagship items collect dust.

Maybe because you’re making the assumption that so many people buy gems to convert to gold so they can get their legendaries?

Credit card to gold is Anets primary focus. If they wanted Legnedaries to be something other than a cash grab, they’d have balanced prices on precursors and such a long time ago by making it actually challenging to get a Legendary. Why do you think they aren’t account bound?
Any time gold is on the line, there’s a chance that a user will pull out their credit card to get more. Plain and simple.

So you’re treating speculation as fact?

So you have facts to contradict me? Please do.

You’re the one who first made the claim that Anet’s primary focus with having legendaries (and/or precursors) sellable is to make money from the gem store. The burden is on you to cite your proof.

My speculation is based on common sense. If Anet wasn’t making money doing it, they would change it. They are in business to make money, using a cash shop model. Just about everything in this game in one way or another is tied to gold. Gold is the focus of the entire economy. Arenanet needs high prices and for players to feel they don’t have enough so that they are more prone to spending real life cash. It’s how they run things.

I don’t think this is possible. It would make things way to easy for gold sellers.

anet could just remove the ability to send items or gold using the “web” mail.

or are you referring to the spam mails? yes, that would be bad..

Yes, i was thinking of the spam. They’d just use a program in game to grab user names and then there’d be a mailing list, etc. Spam to no end.

For the OP: last resort might be if you can find the person you want to contact here on the forum. If they have posted here, you can click on their name (on their post) and choose “send a PM”. They’d need to log into the forum to see it, but if it’s getting down to “last resort” you might try that.

I object to gating on principle — it impedes the player from exploration and running into things by accident; it forces everyone to follow a near-identical path.

However, the current implementation by ANet is as close to a good compromise as I can imagine:

  • You need only complete the first instance (or in LS3.6, the first two) for a character to gain access to the new map.
  • That character can purchase a portal so that all toons can reach the zone, for free. The cost is nominal, in map currency.
  • You can combine all portal scrolls for LS3 maps for a somewhat less modest amount of local currency.

I’d prefer no gating, but if we have it, this isn’t too bad.

Small edit: You don’t even need to finish the first story segment if you have Teleport-to-Friend’s in your inventory.
I realize not everyone has those, but for the casual players who have been around a while, all you need is to find someone willing to party up and go there.

Anet makes a remarkable amount of money from the RNG “gambling” part of this game. Do I have numbers as proof? No. What I see as proof is that they are still doing it. They are constantly making changes to the game to optimize their income, yet some aspects of the game have changed very little (gambling).
That being said, it is clear that gambling is a core part of their income model, and as such they probably have spent a lot of their own money into researching the psychology of gambling and how to maximize profits based on peoples weaknesses.
Magic Find is a perfect example of this psychological manipulation. Magic Find (MF) was a pretty bauble that people went after because they perceived a better reward for time put in. Anet capitalized on this in a big way. They made MF a big deal. Integrated it with the account. Created new shinies to help you gain MF (essence of luck), and set a maximum on it (300%) that was at a set distance from the starting point (no RNG involved. Just keep salvaging stuff for luck essence, and you’ll get there.)
The players rejoiced and the overall morale of the community was increased. Then Anet silently started to replace all types of loot that were affected by MF with loot that could not be affected by MF.
Now we are at a point where MF is almost useless except for a few different select spots that Anet may yet change.

This is but one facet of the games they play with the minds of the players. They are not a game company that is focused on making money while making a great game. They are focused on making the greatest amount of money possible with the minimum amount of effort needed (there is a difference between the two. The former is long term investment thinking, the latter is short term “want it now” thinking).
RNG is the core of their game. It affects so many areas of what happens regarding loot and obtaining items. Fed up with it? Just whip out your wallet and pay real cash (see how that works?).

In the long run, this thread will get buried and ignored like the rest, because the majority of players are still pumping enough cash into the game that Anet is meeting its monthly income projections, and that’s the true bottom line. Nothing will change until Anet is hurting for cash, and even then, it’s likely they’ll just throw out more fluff as opposed to fixing a core problem like the overall loot system.

So regardless of fact vs. fiction, you can bet all your gold on nothing changing. They simply don’t care.

Because it’s one of the main tools used to stop gold sellers and others who use bots, and usually won’t affect normal players at all.

You know, I never thought about that. Once a gold seller discovers DR, they must just close the game, uninstall, and move on to another game. wow. That’s genius!

Here in the real world: Gold sellers and bot makers are constantly updating their software to keep one step ahead of bot restrictions. Everyone talks about how Diminishing Returns has some mystery to it as to how it works, etc. I guarantee you that bot makers know exactly how it works, how long it takes to kick in, and how to circumvent it by using other maps. They have thousands of hours of data to look at to make adjustments to maximize the profit. They don’t even have to program their bot to look at evidence of DR. They simply time it to farm for x amount of time in one zone, then switch to another zone, and so on.

The only people that DR hurts is honest players who play in one zone for more than 45minutes or so.

Crafting is a boring, tedious chore.

in Crafting

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

The MMO Vanguard tried to create a crafting system that encouraged you to make decisions while crafting. People could build their own houses and so on. Even so it was essentially repetitive and ultimately dull. Crafting in all other games has been dull from start to finish and it shouldn’t be the only way to get top line gear.

There is no skill or capability involved in getting ascended gear. It is all about sinking time into collecting money, sinking time into farming events and dungeons, and sinking time into crafting.

The issue of better-gear only through crafting is valid, especially since GW2 seems to have been marketed in the “play your way” arena. Anet would like come back and say that “Ascended weapons are also available through drops” or whatever (which, if I recall actually has not been implemented yet). They are good at twisting facts to fit their lack of effort and design thought.

Outside of that issue, crafting is simply not for everyone. Vanguard had one of the best crafting systems, in my opinion, because just like real crafting, you had a chance at failing or messing up. Risk was rewarded if successful. Or you could take moderate risk and progress slowly.

The fact is, however, crafting takes a certain mindset. Many in GW2 seem to think that rewards should only be given for fighting other players or champions. They would have gathering removed completely if not for the fact that they can make some side money by selling the materials. Crafters are often more patient, but just as goal oriented as fighters. Crafting in Vanguard and other games is what got me started on my RL hobby of jewelry-making. I’m just someone that enjoys it. I like working with my hands. Doing so virtually is fun because it doesn’t cost nearly as much (silver is not cheap these days). In the long run, I don’t think that people who enjoy crafting and people who enjoy fighting will every truly merge into one mindset.

Again, with the exception of crafting being the only method to access certain gear types, crafting itself simply is “not for everyone”, and that’s why often times it is glossed over in game development. It’s not a mainstream thing in games.

Possible watchwork mining pick solution

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I stress “possible”, and will point out that due to the activity on the long lost thread on this subject, that there are at least some who feel there needs to be a solution.

the problem that some see: The watchwork mining pick has an advantage over other infinite mining picks. It is seen as “unfair” or such, in spite of being able to grind gold to buy gems to buy one.

A solution: Give infinite harvesting tools a special sigil slot that holds a special class of sigil. An example sigil would be the watchwork sigil, which when fitted to an infinite tool, gives a chance at harvesting watchwork sprockets with each use.
Other sigils could produce similar things. Candy Corn, Geodes, Bandit Crests, etc.

All current watchwork mining picks would automatically get the sigil for watchwork sprockets, but all other infinite tools would then have the ability to have such a sigil fitted to them.

Again, just an idea that would resolve the issues some people have in a manner that doesn’t demand that people who bought the watchwork pick lose out.

If you guys really want a lower price then you should be campaigning to reduce the price of T3-5 dust. There are millions and millions of lower tier crystals that are flooding the market, but they can’t be upgraded because dust is too expensive.

Instead of asking for flat out price nerfs that will never happen in 1000 years, look for the root causes of the prices, in this case, dust, and ask for the drop rate there to be changed.

Of course the devs already know this, which is why radiant dust has dropped 50% in price the last month since its drop rate was adjusted. Now they just need to add another source and do similar things for T3 and 5 dust.

This is the best suggestion so far.

Absolutely not, in most cases we are attempting to remove what we can before the player returns. However, there are just going to be some things we can’t remove.

“just going to be some things that we can’t remove”.

If this was a ban wave for the winters day jumping puzzle, that means that each of the banned accounts would have a total of around 20 items specifically that would need removal (that is if they were opening the gift loot at all). Most probably weren’t doing that, so there is only 1 item that needs to be removed from the accounts.
Your choice of words in this simple case tells me there’s going to be a solid spike of activity in Wintersday Present trading come early June.

^^^ this. World bosses need a rework, but the ones in the starter zones need, by nature of their zone, to be newbie friendly.

The idea of crafting a precursor was to remove the insane randomness of getting a drop…

Except that is exactly what is so infested into the precursor crafting system. RNG is again blocking people from completing their quests. I’ve been killing risen in Orr over the past few days, doing events, killing all levels of mobs, and have yet to get a black pearl. Others are doing the fight against Shatterer in hopes that they will randomly be chosen to be crystallized in order to get a token that way. Others still are waiting for RNGesus to bless them with whatever token they are on.

And that doesn’t even include the issues people are having with bugs and broken events.

At this point, I half expect to get The Lover as a drop before I get to actually craft it.

But that’s just a guess. Could very well be wrong.

New York didn’t change its name to “Not so new anymore York” either. (<— Joke ^^)

But it was once New Amsterdam.

Why they changed it, I can’t say.

People just liked it better that way.

Nothing can be done.

It’s all up to the FBI to catch em. Took months for the FBI to catch lulzsec.

All the feds will do is hire them and pay them a kitten-ton of money.

For the record, when i pug, I don’t have a long list of wants and needs. If I’m pugging I know I’m going to get the bottom of the barrel play how you wants. Even if I give a description. People don’t read.

Do me a favor and don’t join my elitist stench parties. Because it isn’t like I routinely carry cleric guards and bow bears whenever I’m too nice to kick, which happens.

The reason you hate me here is because I’m trying to stop this at the root of the problem: all of you think you know what’s right and you don’t. Thus you spread false information which spreads into unknowing pugs. It is your denial that is the issue here. No one would complain if you didn’t say things like “My build is fine! It’s better than the meta! I’m right and I don’t care how much proof you have you’re wrong!”

I feel sorry for anyone you try to help by teaching them.

Edit: I also want to make this point. If you want to play the way you want, by all means, but don’t say I’m a terrible person for wanting to play how I want, and thus not letting bads into my party.

(and there’s the core of the problem. You think you’re better at the game than everyone else)

Why would wind riders carry recipes for their own destruction…? Rather risky of them.

Why do Mosquitoes carry rifles?

If Anet is going to introduce musical instruments like this into the game where you have to pay a decent amount of money/gems/gold for them, they need to put some time into them. This change wasn’t implemented the best, and it would have been much easier to have it sustain as long as the button is pressed (this mechanic is in game already for trebuchets/catapults/mortars, etc., so don’t tell me it can’t be coded, Anet).

And kitten it, I want half steps!
