This topic is 3 years old and, as noted, much of the reason for the original discussion has been changed as a result of content patches.
In general, if the most recent thread is over 6 months old, please start a new one, as patches and updates may have significantly changed the way things work.
As such, I am closing this thread.
Usually if there’s a delay with whispers, there’s some sort of internet/network problem. Check your ping to make sure it’s about the same as usual. If it is, then it might be that the route from your computer to the chat server is different from the route to the game servers.
Typically, if the problem is on ANet’s end, lots and lots and lots of people would experience the problem at exactly the same time; that doesn’t seem to be the case.
If you don’t feel like doing the troubleshooting work yourself (and who could blame you? you’re here to play a game), file a support ticket and someone from ANet will try to work with you to figure out the issue.
I have never, in my time in GW2, experienced any problem with that.
You might want to consider expanding just a touch on what the problem is, how it manifests, and what triggers it — because right now I’m pretty sure that the GW2 team, who likely have the same experience I do will probably … not be able to resolve the issue with the information available.
I’d suggest the best choice being to move the content to the GW2 wiki, and then link to that from the forum post. Possibly with an excerpt or summary here, but ultimately, that’s a better place to maintain a document anyway…
It looks like you’re right – I found a number of posts from Jeffrey which do indeed state that I should revert to my own story after the current chapter ends. Thank you for the information
Kinda annoying, since it means I’m going to miss the main part of the Priory storyline, and it absolutely wasn’t clear when accepting the story credit that this is what would happen. Also somewhat frustrating that support didn’t know this – I have specific statements from two different GMs that I’m permanently part of the Vigil from now on, which directly contradicts what Jeffrey has described should happen. I guess the only thing to do at this point is to play on and see what happens.
If anyone else is interested, posts from Jeffrey Vaughn discussing this issue can be found at:

I’m sure race change would bring them a lot of money. But if after 4 years and many requests it hasn’t been done, then maybe there are fundamental problems with doing it. In a post about why they can’t make backpacks dyeable, the dev said something that I think is also relevant to this subject.
(Snip) “We’d still encounter a ton of programing challenges and bugs from altering a core mechanic of the game and the years of code built on top of it. Every player and many npcs use items, so the wrong bug slipping through can have a major impact on everyone in the game. Not to mention finding that bug could be like searching for a needle in a haystack because of how fundamental this part of our system is” (snip)
I expect they have looked into it and found out it would result in a bugfest that would take too much valuable dev time to fix. Far better imo that people simply reroll and make a new char and let that dev time be used to make new content instead.
While a “Race Change Contract” might bring in a lot of revenue, it would also cost a lot to design, test, implement, and maintain. The question isn’t “will it earn a lot” but “will it earn enough to make it worth the risk and expense.”

ANet may give it to you.
I feel as if this topic is dead because people choose to troll towards it so much, not only on these forums but in game as well. When trying to duel in pvp, we are restricted with the gear you can use. In wvw/eotm, you get destroyed by zergs and they yell at us to go to pvp for duel. And to be told that you have to be in a guild…HAVE TO BE IN A GUILD to duel safely……..to add on top of this pitiful list of excuses, “This game is designed to NOT foster greed and apathy, but the opposite”……..It is clear that everyone in this topic has not dueled and has zero experience with what happens.
No, these people have played other MMOs where ganking and dueling happens. when you dont want to fight, its incredibly stressful and can ruin your entire experience when someone decides to harass you. when YOU want to duel, you go to the place for it. pvp. not when youre trotting around trying to harvest iron ore and some kitten wont leave you alone.
the answer is no. anet has said it. the community has said it. get over it. go play wow and get roflstomped to your hearts content.
because at its core, GW2 (and GW1) is a cooperative MMO and open world conflict with other players is a very hostile feature. This game is designed to NOT foster greed and apathy, but the opposite. thats why unlike some MMOs who shall not be named, events, nodes, mobs, etc are for everyone. this just goes against the entire mood this game has.

I had to log out, since nothing worked for me- can’t move anything from bags, can’t tp to wp, etc. I’m like a ghost in the game.
Yes, that’s what a lot of us are noting. We’re so sorry and will do our best to get this addressed to the best of our ability and as quickly as possible.
Nothing you have to apologize for. DDoS attacks are a mess to deal with for any company. So it’s not like it’s your guys’ fault. Just hopefully whatever person or group is doing this is either stopped or gets bored soon.
Thanks, Damio. I wanted to express our regret and our sympathy for the situation. Not really an apology in this case, because you’re right, we don’t “own” this issue. But it’s fair to say we truly understand the irritation felt by for those who are being inconvenienced. We are — I am — right there with ya on that.

Our network team has continued to track this issue, and at the present time, all systems are working properly. As you will be aware, this issue arose due to a DDOS attack, and it continued in that vein for many hours. We’ll continue to monitor and work on this issue should it arise again. In the meantime, our thanks to everyone for your reports and for your patience during what has been a very trying time!
Aye, i don’t blame anet nor ncsoft in this case, one really can’t when you understand what backbones are. Most players probably don’t really understand the nit and gritty to this (I don’t entirely just basic things I’m no IT) Most will blame anet over and over blindly, but to be honest probably out of your reach. Unless you switch to different backbone company that’s probably still out of anet’s reach unless ncsoft does the deal.
So really us players just s.o.l. just as much as anet is in this situation and btw as one stated above it’s begun again round 1:20 pm est. For most of the morning on east coast was stable. The ddos attacks seem to be only kicking in after 12pm east and seem to be lasting on into night I’ve been going bed round 11pm east it was ongoing till then. When everything stables out I can not say, maybe a late night player can let us know.
As we all know About Site Problems, Please Be Patient and let them fix for us.
Anet has in a quick action for such issue, Be patient folks
Guys $50 is the price of the expansion only those who pre-purchase get the the core game from free. Those who pre-order aren’t paying for the the core gw2 game.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/HoT-Price-Feedback-Base-game-included-merged
New players getting the core game for free is a good thing for the game overall.WoodenPotatoes Review of the HoT per-purchase sums up things well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUtMGS3ezLINow if there is something to discuss if would be $50 price tag, though it is a bit high its kinda standard price for a lot of expansions.
they should get the game at the base games price.
and old players should be able to get an expansion at an expansions price.
an expansion should not cost as much as the initial product UNLESS it is as big as the initial product.
basically they should have created a collected version for like 50-60 bucks(with hot and core), and sold an expansion, or upgrade to people for some lesser value based on how much content they were adding/or extras they were offering.
Its not genius, its fairly common, and smart.

WOW a price for a new player that equals a normal new game cost with both! and a price for people who are upgrading that costs less! CRAZY!
Thanks for the feedback everyone! It still seems like there is a general lack of interest in the idea, so we’ll pass on it again.
Maybe you should consider the ideas given in the feedback than asking the same idea twice. Asking the same idea twice in such a short duration is already giving the impression that devs are reluctant to accept other ideas other than their own preferred ones.

I just want the Raiment Outfit. I was hoping it woulda been released b4 or during Halloween Will it be released solo anytime soon?
I also much like the previous packs, “an outfit, glider skin,(5) keys, Immortal weapon choice, total makeover kit-meh” only for 2000gems" (valued at 2650) 22%off .
It would be cool if you had the option to not include certain things and auto price adjust! I think more people would be happy. I’d like another option please.
I don’t need or want the dyes, already have the mining pick and really only want the outfit. THIS MAKE ME SAD

Today it feels good to live far away from the big world powers.
I spent last night helping people get the orbs at Scavenger’s Chasm, and didn’t hear anything about the elections until I closed the game and went to bed with my girl. She was facebooking like mad, so the news just flooded everything, but I was too sleepy to give any opinion.
Thanks GW2 for shielding me from reality.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Thanks for tracking what we say. #Privacy
Anyone who thinks that there’s privacy on the Internet is going to get a big surprise one day.
ANet may give it to you.
Stuff happening in real life should indeed kept outside of the game.
Hey All,
We’ve been monitoring the in-game chatter tonight during the US Election, and while most conversations were civil, some were going well beyond the boundary of acceptable behavior that we allow in-game by bordering on harassment.
Guild Wars 2, the world of Tyria, and most games, are meant to be a way for us to enjoy ourselves and allow a possible escape the confines of reality for a short period of time. MMOs are nothing without their communities, and sometimes real-life can splash into that very quickly and aggressively.
We are all here because of our love for games and the worlds that they allow us to explore. Opinions can differ, but by playing Guild Wars 2, we all have something in common. So, please, stay civil. Remember that no matter what is going on in the real world, Tyria should be a safe place for everyone to enjoy.
We are all in this together.
It’s working for me!
My funny tumblr post about it= http://guardianbeargaming.tumblr.com/post/153087818285/yeah-the-ground-is-back-in-the-norn-personal
Thank you!
I’m pretty sure this doesn’t qualify as bug – more as suggestion.
Township of Claypool has this Bank NPC guy who’s standing on square near crafting stations: http://i.imgur.com/F7PvxYk.jpg (I do believe it was added not so long ago) but since Crafting stations grant access to Bank storage its presence nearby doubles the feature.
Sure, it’s easier for new player to get familiar with game features but I would like suggest moving that Bank NPC to proper building nearby: http://i.imgur.com/cUnjGSQ.jpg – either behind the counter or just simply inside building. I’m pretty sure that place was originally designated as Bank – mostly because of obvious signboard hanging over the entrance – but it seems that during very early development that idea was scrapped and Bank NPC was removed or maybe not even used at all since this video here from beta times doesn’t feature Banker inside building nor NPC nearby crafting stations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHzY3qsAdQk (around 1:09)
As in topic, a small change to this place would be really cool and set proper immersion of the in-game world – let’s move Bank NPC to the proper building
24h later and not a single person played their Norn story line? Yeah right…
That’s the funny thing about problems: Once there is one, each and every single person feels compelled to share their two cents without further increasing information gained but when the problem is solved, nobody feels the need to express gratitude or even share their positive experience. This leads me to the assumption that it is taken for granted that everything works perfectly.
Makes one think.
Happy to be of assistance. I’m glad you are back on track. Don’t be too harsh on the Devs, there have just been so many ‘bug’ reports about the new PS functions, I’m sure they are overwhelmed. Jeffrey is great, posts very often to help players with the PS, and has been known to offer the same advice. (It’s where we lowly players learn what advice to offer.) =)
Good luck!
