Game to fast for that to be commented, rason why gw1 pvp was much better than gw2 is, was needed much more team work, more general know how, ganks, spikes, pull conditions and transfer, interrups by rangers and mesmers interrupting certain almost instant skills, and had a good pace of combat to be commented.

Gw2 combat meh to spammy, to much biased on gimmicks, to flashy its a bit of a mess… not even worth watching and listening it is even worse, i tried.. seriously i tried…

I’d like to point out that F1 pull does not always work… I had countless situations when I needed to pull someone on clear ground (no obstacles and no elevation). The animation showed my enemy beside me for a second or two and then they just pop get back to the same spot they were before pull.
I thought it was just some teleport at first but well… guess that warriors, scrappers can’t teleport, let’s not forget ranger and guardians and necros (guard needs a target and necro needs a wurm up and running but I was sure they didn’t have those circumstances).
Sounds like a lag issue, but even then the pull should have worked anyway, but with some kind of delay.

Had similiar experiences in good terrain and low elevation, “target is obstructed while” nothing was there…

There are certain areas in WvW (a couple of camps in EBG that I can think of) and a certain node in Legacy of Foefire where projectiles become “obstructed” on otherwise flat ground due to some poorly designed terrain/barriers. Doesn’t seem to be a guardian-specific issue.

Indeed, not guard specific probably, i imagine those places would affect all classes skills with similiar mechanic.

Obtena is just a PvE casual hero with tunnel vision.

He lacks the insight to comprehend other styles of game-play and a desire to perform in different game modes.

He just pipes along with everything is fine because he is quite happy with the 11111 hammer meta for his PvE slot. It fits his skill level.

I see him everywhere it seems like he defends everything over the smallest criticisms, id say tunnel vision is an understatement no one is assuming anything everyone here including me has played their guardians well enough to know the clear flaws in the class right now.

The point is that you can’t really be very successful in PVP if you and everyone else play the same build because even the average PVPer won’t think “Oh there is a Guardian, what will he do?”, they will think “Oh, there is a medi trapper Guardian, I know EXACTLY what his tricks are” and they will counter you as best possible.

That is exactly the issue here, atm u cant play anything else besides it.

@Arcaedus.7290, well i dont see any other way to bring guardian do a decent lvl besides change some skills, usually Anet only increase and decrease power output wich results in broken builds for the good or worst, i dont want ending with a easy class that carries me… like i feel when playing some classes…

About the projectiles guardian skills .. i dont know what to say, since my main build counters mainly projectiles :\, all i can say is that GS, Hammer, scepter, sword, think torch 4 chain is aborved initially as well but condi passes to target, all of this skills wont work, and they are all on the same class, other range classes dont have this problem.

Guardian has no trade off to be this counterable.

Well that i dont know, i dont do pve, but since mobs dont evade stuff makes sense.

Wonder if symbols had Writ of persistance native :P or something similiar that helps allies on symbols.

Remove the ligth field effect and make something guardianish probabaly???

Make it some mixture of symbols + concecrations? where people with traited on virtues/concecrations line could get a buff on symbols and thieir build? last longer, so we could have access to “decent boons” while inside our field place/symbols,
if we move place we could relocate the skill since would get reduced to 4-6 seconds instead of the 8 seconds??

What if guardian symbols were concrations based with fire and light(holy properties similiar to gw1 ??) deppending some trait or atunement?

From pve PoV in most encounters (instanced) bosses don’t rly move much so you want that symbol for the dmg modifier in zeal. That’s why it’s pretty decent in burst encounters (dungeons/low fracs).

If writ of persistence was integrated that’d be a decent pve buff already, especially for hammer builds, since you no longer have to go in an otherwise useless traitline (honor) and can pick the dmg modifiers in virtues.

If symbols had burning and it’s decent condi guardian might finally be a thing.

An ofc if symbols moved with the guard they’d finally have a more decent spot on bosses where you move a lot, mainly raid encounters.

However sadly none of this fixes the issue that a guardian in raids is pretty much only auto attacking with hammer which is ofc extremely boring.

I would rather see a CD to symbol skills than see them moving,i dont know how raids are in this game, so i cant help much there, but sounds abit similiar to wvw where player is never on top of the symbols, so that makes them useless, not even the enemie hits them or decides to ignore.
What if?
Hammer 3rd AA needs to cast AOE prot w/o being a light fight or a symbol, and light symbol is aplyed on ring of warding, players/mob stuck on ring would take damage also, and CD decreased into 24 seconds?
That also would fix the light fields over other fields and avoid prople to AA and pressing ESC to cancel the 3rd AA.

Wirst of persistance would help guardian lack of surviability on WvW team play, probably we would see moreplayers encouraged of playing anything else besides meditrappers.

The flaws is that medi trapper is a easy build to defeat, and anything besides that dont work.. you wont be able to fight with other than that.

DH trapper even w/o meditations is a very very weak build, what saves the traitline its JI+trap combos.

And guardian survibility exist when leeching other players, even defensive builds aka shouts + mace shield are not that defensive, guardian looses damage, support is still almost zero, it is a build that will make any player beign killed also in very easy situations.
So outside power creep situations guardian dont exist.

Well that i dont know, i dont do pve, but since mobs dont evade stuff makes sense.

Some mobs (a lot of them) actually do evade and sometimes they also just randomly move – for example if you run into/through their hitbox or because of bad terrain.
And i’m not even talking about all those happy bowbear rangers using their #4 knockback all the time in open world content. It’s so annoying.
This would really help guardians..

That tends to happen in pvp component as well some ally saving the enemie from your symbol, not that it would do anything but…. it is annoying… even if the enemy stays on your symbol couse it is not doing anythign on him and not helpin me… people will just KB the target from it…

GS is melee range so make sense have the same range description as mace and hammer.
Even making symbols moving with guard, i dotn see how that would help the class.

I’ve never played and don’t claim anything is better than wvw right now, but I’m seeing a lot of streamers talk about how ESO is starting to get their wvw style in order and improving. Not sure if anyone can confess to that but seems like it may be worth a try.

I am excited about DAOC though, looks fun.

Dude have you seen the running animation for DAOC, those animations are 5x crappier than LOTRO!

On early stages of a games it is normal, for graphics and animations to be like that.

The new unleashed version of doac is still in pre alpha I think.

yeah somewhere 2018-2019+?… i bet, needs alot of shaving, and the game is huge, only the combat sytem itself is really good an complex within a very interesting concept.

-IF blocked/evaded every boon targets has becomes condi, if resistance was aplyed target gets double of condi damage until he logs off.
-CoR now tracks target, if target gets hitted, ground will oppend and players will be kicked out of WvW.
-every 8 seconds CoR animation will be invisible, ground issues will quadruple damage and CD less 2 seconds on skill recharge.

Invocation – Equilibrium, while player e stand still with stability , will gets 5x times energy regeneration and resistance.
Also will protec player fall from chair.

Corruption – replenishing repair , for every conditions receiving will increase healing amount by 0.5% max 5%, after 5 seconds all conditons will be spreaded to closest enemy, if target dies ravcenant health will be fully healed.
When full healled 50% of all enemy guardians nearby are kicked from game (pvpwvw effect only).

Iknow balance is relative, but shutting down classes over time to make other classes or builds in that class to look good…it is not good either.

Actually i dont think Anet have any kind of target or limit to impose to other classes, they do whatever they think would sound and look good when being commented on esports, that is how they balance stuff, guardian being more slow and tactical does not fit in the actual gameplay because atm is to limited for it.

Probably something arround this, but i would bet im not that far away from the truth..

I don’t see anything there that disputes anything I said in the previous post you quoted. Classes differences are not fair or equal, REGARDLESS of what differentiates them in this or other MMO’s; if there wasn’t that differentiation, then classes would be different in name only. If that differentiation is seriously a problem for players, they have options to choose from for playing (or not) the game.

1. Quit the game altogether
2. Suffer with the class concept they like with diminished performance
3. Play a different class concept to get the performance they are after.

Anyone who has played MMO’s long enough knows that the more classes a game has, the less likely that a given class will meet a particular player’s requirements for both performance and conceptual appeal. It’s a fool’s errand and a questionable return on a developer’s investment to even try to deliver that to players. Hence, it’s partly why there are so many QQ threads about class performance, even when the performance is good.

So…Guardian “performance” outside medi trapper isnt..good or anything close to it, and PVE does not count for class analysis, gw2 has only 8 classes, with a very simple trait system and are not balanced towards pve or even close to that…

…. it is not a conceptual appeal how you call it.

If u do pvp you must be figthing afk players for sure or very new players to the game.

And another thing….
On other games classes are “equal” due trade offs, cause one excells in something that the other dont and vice versa, each one has its place, and sometimes they can support each other, its trade of one for another, this concept of sacrifice does not exist in gw2.
There will be diferences and weak classes to certain effects, the gap in gw2 is to big.

Let me try to give you some example, class A can defeat class B, but class B can do things that class A cant do… well now lets see guardian Class C that is defeated by A and B and only in some peculiar situations have chance to defeat B, class C is also weak outside the build that makes it have a chance with B and dont have any strong or mediocre feature, anything outside that will also tend to loose with class D E and F, but wont have any trade of or role in exchange.
C cant defeat other builds also since will sacrifice the low surviability that has for damage, or will sacrifice damage for nothing, not even is mediocre at support, so the only option viable is to keep fighthing and have a chance against B.

This is not a class that is in good spot, while other have many other options, guardian atm has to many counters.

Guardian dont have that trade off, it is weak, its only option is being “forced” to play with what still works, medi build on 2+ vs 1 situations, or meditrapers, even so medi trapeprs are easy to counter due its obvious combat type.

Give me reason to think guardian is in good spot? can you?

Personally, i think DH was a mistake as an elite for the guardian profession, i’ll prefer they restore guardian as it used to be

then druid was a mistake too imo and they should restore ranger…

You won’t see me complaining. Whoever thought “Guardians want to play like rangers and rangers want to play like guardians” was a good idea clearly needs to rethink their mindset.

The intent of Anet on classes is for all classes have all weapon sets and the similiar gameplay utilities.. now if this is just the beggining, with the actual awfull balance to look and sound cool concept for esportz we know where this will reach….

Every class will have every weapon… so much more power creep and more dumb ways to play will be there, ele with traps, necros with bow and traps etc…

it is siege, siege is ment to be strong…. the issue is how Anet will handle it… obvious they will do it a to much of a gimmick so can be spammed…

Like i said some siege should have restricted rules, deployable cannon should be used only in some places, and should count as more than one piece of siege, so it fills the siege limit faster and not much siege can be build next to it.

hammer, cannon build or transported, whatever is added is good the issue is the “how awfull” Anet is at game balance to enforce their broken gimmick game.

That is the same as cry about Oil on pvd situations….. when pvd players complain about oil when they dont even target it….

Professions are unique and those justifications are not sensible. lf you’re going to push for RS buff, it’s going to be based on the fact that it’s necessary to fulfill the concept of the class. Through the concept of Guardians, Anet decided that the buff wasn’t needed. Nothing has changed there if Anet didn’t change the class concept.

This is where our views differ. Pre HoT, I would have agreed with this statement. This is the whole reason ANet originally designed guardian without the +25% movement speed. However, things change over time, and that includes the range of capabilities a class possesses. Pre HoT, not every class had access to it. But now, every class except for guardian has access to a +25% movement speed util/trait. From a pvp and wvw balance standpoint I think that is a very compelling reason to give guardians a +25% movement speed buff somewhere.

Here’s a simple analogy to explain my argument: Mr. Anetto goves you 100$. That’s great right? Yeah! Free money is great, of course. Now then, imagine that at the same time you got that 100$, 8 other people around you get 200$. The value of that 100$ hasn’t decreased, but the disparity between you and those 8 others has. For the sake of fairness, I think it’s pretty obvious what Mr. Anetto should do.

You analogy assumes that across all professions, things are equal. They are not. It’s irrelevant if it’s fair … MMO’s are also not fair. There is nothing fair or equal between professions in any MMO I have ever played. Perhaps you are an idealist that thinks that is how it should be, but I prefer realistic expectations.

Obtena in other games, classes differ roles, in gw2 classes diffeer by being playable and not playable due how gimmicks are far stronger than a non gimmick builds and some classes gimmicks are completelly a joke i feel super carried when playing them, except when playing guardian, they have no strong trade offs, they cant play anything else as medi trapper or medibuild on 2 vs 1 against decent players, if u play any other build on this class well… you will be ending a burden for your teams and that is what is wrong, due how other classes have been overbuffed.

The thing is there are to much classes with speed boost, and the class that does not have it, also does not have any trade off, in other games those tade off exist.

-Low surviability.
-poor combos outside medi traper builds.
-poor of team support.
-DH virtues are easilly interrupted.
- traps dont work outside spvp need to get 2+ vs 1 due stats and some classes were overbuffed over time, while they dont sacrifice much damage, in guardian u cant be as sturdy as other classes and that will kill your damage also, some classes still have surviability due the 25% speed bosst + overbuffed skills + damage output of that class still good.

Bow damage in GW1 took altitude into the calculation; I dunno why that was removed, so I assume there was a design decision involved. Balance, maybe?

In gw1 people needed to understand how game works , on gw2 is more follow the gimmick than anything else, it was not about balance, but to cut the gap between players effectivness, was removed to make game more easier for everyone.

  • Power of the mist rewards showed as a buff with server name and percentages, to players of that world in wvw and pve. (That’s if the rewards stay with the skirmish score changes). Perhaps if pve players see the buffs they get from wvw they may want to help in wvw more.
  • For example when you hover the mouse over the buff:
    Blackgate WvW bonuses for Pve.
    Artisan: 20% increased chance of crafting critical success.
    Gatherer: 20% chance of additional gathering node uses
    Defender: 10% increased defense against monsters.
    Energetic: 10% endurance regeneration bonus.
    Medic: 10% increased healing effectiveness
    Robust: 10% increased maximum health
    Scavenger: 10% bonus coin per kill.
    Wisdom: 10% bonus experience per kill.

If anyone has anything to add, please do, and let’s keep this thread constructive, thanks!

Carefull with that, “must be in server X for boons or GTFO” requirement for fractals and the raid.

How the actual game works that would be a nail in its coffin.

Also that would be a huge advangate for servers that blob with numbers… and make WvW more empty at then end, more stacked server vs empty server situations, the linking sistem is already awfull, there no need to scramble it further.

And some classes would be completelly broken more than they already are…

Not expecting such good changes, if guardian gets more viable will be in DH damage output, some even easier damage gimmick, or probably will increase bow damage to make guardian “viable”.

I would rather expect nerfs on HD virtues…. there are people who thinks tthey are stong :| and make guardian unkillable.

Only way to reduce that might be by reducing the spam, reduce the number of cleaves, aoe and condi ticks calculation to a better condis system, being more single targetted , less server calculation, less skill lag.

And then compensate in a few trully AOE spells with target number increased more than 5 targets, like meteor shower hitting 7-10 players.

At this point if you hear anyone mention “guardians are in a good spot” ironically or not, you can sleep well knowing they’ll never make an intelligent post again.

They have been lowered to the level of guardian changes overtime…. no inteligent guardian updates either.

Players have been asking for fixes for Spirit Weapon the last 3+ years, when Anet decided to kill/shutdown those utilities, Anet never cared…..
Overall SW is the image how Anet looks at Guardian class, they dont care….

The issue is not guardian alone, the entire process affects the whole game, while they keep up with this mentality and forcing it, game wont grow well.

When classes are pve designed on a aoe spammy content and forced to a pvp that suffers from balance in exchange to what would sound good for esports speakers to talk abaout in matches.. alot of things are wrong..

if somebody is outnumbered should not have any kind of stats privilege
this would just make guilds go agressive against pugs and eachother so they can steamroll a map with 20 vs 80. Ofc you have not considered how this will affect guilds or roammers /duellers .
using siege will also not atract players on your server. Make your server more atractive , and you will gather the players you need to fight: )

That already happens, who owns more towers/castles have more stats, as example, my guardian when my server is being outmaned i have arround 20-23k HP, when we own a good portion stuff on the maps health goes up to 26k+ Hp

The more a server owns more stats players have…

A bunker build that is basicly invulnerable?……

DH medi trapper only works on awfull palyers or power creep burst situations. where players putted themselves in that situation….when they go melee knowing DH have traps there… on squishy builds…

Saddly bunker guard does not exist, they are a free kill….

Tree of class roles for WvW, based on guild tech if that wasnt so dull & liniar.
Not all repair hammers would reapair everything, some for siege others for golems repair etc based on what guild chooses on tech tree.

But since it is Anet doing it, would result in some broken stuff… as usual.

Kharneth.7931, avoid guardian atm, guardian was supose to be something like a paladin but it is not.
Guardian is in a very bad state, since Anet keeps buffing all other classes.

Warrior can be pretty fun, imagine a mixture of soft paladin(alot of sustain compared with guardian) and a arena figther(while can keep up the damage and bursts).

You can have excellent damage and being tanky, guardian in sturdy gear is squisher than warrior on non sturdier gear, and guardian looses all damage in that gear and its support is useless all class can sustain themselves.

NSP/SF and DH/FC got the rawest deals with this pair beta. According to the updated leaderboards NSP shouldn’t even be a host this next week and DH is in the same situition NSP was two weeks ago, only DH is now listed as Full. Unless Anet reworks the pairs, if we get another T4 match with the current pairings, no matter who gets green is guaranteed glicko gain.

The linked servers work well together, but the population balance has a lot to be desired. Green has had the advantage (overwhelmingly) in that category since the linking. Starting to believe “Outnumbered” is a base skill. xD

Population balance is impossible to achieve with the linking system, any stacked server is balanced against any other stacked servers that is what link tries, but being based on population is to volatile, guild changes server, people quit etc….

(EDIT) NSP will not be a host… how can a empty server be in a host position?

Sure there are far more pressing problems than a lack of repair hammer, but we have to consider that maybe repair hammer is just within the limits of what they are capable of creating at this point.

Creating a good experience would require creating a new game.

This is true, the only solution to fix many things in one hit, would be a remodeling of WvW concept to a true RvR/AvA system instead capping shrines with walls redundancy,, wich for what i understand is far from what Anet wants gw2 to be.

Since WvW is the evolution of AB, not a new mode, just with several added features, so the best they can do is adding new tools to cover that lack of the game not being a pure RvR/AvA.

Still maps are to farmable, but when Anet tries to resolve that… skrits complained…

This will suck if they let super blobs use their 1200+ sup to keep all their trebs, gens, ACs, balis, catas alive. It’s bad enough fighting the scrub horde without giving their siege sustain.

I could see this if you needed to be out of combat and it only worked on tower/keep siege. Open field is asking for trouble.

if your server is incapable of burning that blob’s supply, u gonna lose ur stuffs either way. furthermore, that is a really stupid argument. they can juz rebuild another siege and building multi sieges is way more effective then repairing sieges

the main point of the repair hammer is for freaking canon or mortar since you cannot rebuild them.

Then fix the matchups first plz. As I said, I wouldn’t mind something like this on tower/keep siege.

For that to happen alot needs to change, even if matchups change they wont get far from blob arround and nuking every siege with AOE, reason reapair hammers were needed to counter how easy is to destroy siege,(in case of one or another piece survived that nuke raid….) if a group cant defeat a few pieces of siege there are only 2 situations, they are awfully bad or the broken linking sistem did his job again, for what ic people just want to take stuff w/o effort of fighthing siege and easy pvd, many even roll in and out of the mortar fire…even if Anet adds the simbol on the ground “hey move mortar fire inc” even with that players will cry cause they need to move asside or drop their pvd from one person shooting a mortar.. that is the gw2 player quality.

Rapair hammers are gimmicks to counter another gimmick, it is just fine.

Altough larger blobs will be in advantage of reapairing and spamming trebs against keeps, cause sometimes a server dont even have enaugh players to counter siege (that is how linking is working….) , a few rules need to be added in future.

Boons doesn’t make the guardian a guardian, the ability to tank and heal itself does.

Tank? only in pve… meanwhile some classes can do that and do way more damage.

I don’t see a contrast with that. If the concept is team-based boon dispenser, why would that automatically make the class awesome at using boons? I don’t think it does, unless of course you’re just another person that complains about anything they can think of as a way to show the class isn’t performing how you think it should.

That is true, but class besides meditations or traps, doesnt work, but that might be due other classes have to much compared with this one.
Ive been fighthing changing chouts and traps…. ive been sold to the thing i hate more to play in guardian… traps, cause shouts are being just stack buff bots for groups.

That’s it? You guys really think being able to hit up to 50 people every couple of seconds and get up to 40 stacks of burning near instantly on a target from range is a good change? Many of us have been complaining for years about how ridiculously unbalanced siege damage is and you do something incredibly mind boggling like this.

Nerfing the mortar fire means that it will become another semi useless siege like cannons and oil. Besides, with all the resistance spam meta, zergs should be pretty fine as it is shown on the screenshot where you have a rev with 123 stacks of burn but he won’t die at all.

Getting an instant 40 stacks of burning is not balanced, especially from something that can be fired from over 9000 range and hit 50 people. One screenshot changes nothing. And for all the people complaining about boonshare being to strong, well you know who to blame, for making these idiotic changes and paving the way for making stuff like boonshare almost a necessity.

Anet balances broken stuff with more broken stuff, only noticed now?
I cant recall it but doesnt the shield siege protects from that siege shot or cata shield?

Build diverssity means Anet had to balance most classe on some stats, that is not how the game is suposed to be i guess.

TehHobNob.4687, build diversity actually “lacks” on WvW, the thing is there are alot of weak build arround, just need to select a weapon or utilities that Anet dont care on X class to be in bad spot, and people tend to adapt and run almost the same thing.

And some strong gimmick build on pvp are way more stronger in WvW due stats, people tend to envolve to use those builds all tend to converge to the same.

I only see these being used after u have defended your keep/ tower to repair damaged siege after getting the walls up. Is this only for cannons/mortars ? Or would this work on catas & ballis too?

I assume it is for all siege. Including golems.

It is a very interesting mechanics that probably gets easilly transformed to a strong gimmick XD, gw2 is heavy gimmick based dont forget about it.

WvW isn’t going to be good until there is more infliction of more players.

I dont think so, if that happens people will get bored already due massive stacking aoe and range spamming… more skill lag, more broken gimmicks to wipe groups faster etc.

the way WvW is being managed is a contradiction to itself, the large population RvR system that cant hold people for RvR besides blob empty stuff… even there skill lag happens on pvd..

The issue is how WvW is(was) designed, with the aditions of banners and other gimmicks made the dull game even more duller, not harder, they have beeen changing the wrong things.

It’s possible, part of the issue is so many people are slaves to the norm and metabattle. Just need to get a little creative, find the kitten in the armor and beat the crap out of it.

There have always been Meta’s that evolve, even if just slightly that give someone the edge. Stop drooling over metabattle (half of which is outdated) and boon sharing and find the counter. Eventually people will catch on and everyone will try and run that comp but then you just get creative again. This is exactly what those HC guilds did constantly and is part of the reason they remained on top aside from just being good at what they did.

u cant be that creative in this game, if u wan to win, metas in gw2 are far stronger that gw1 metas, cause require less team work and more spam, if u go for that creative build or weak weapon set, yuou will be a burden to your group, saddly that ius ahow it works.

Play gimmick, look good all is fine…
