Reving because of bad geological structure design?
Just like some mesmer blinking into the wall or some warrior/engineer hopping over the wall from a cliff, it IS NOT game mechanic, is a design flaw that SHOULD BE FIXED.
Anet already fixed the last example I just mentioned.

Whoever defending it clearly have some of their guildies/friends taking advantage of it, and don’t want their lame trick to be fixed.

Fixing the structures so you can’t take advantage of glitches, etc, is one thing. Making an automatic respawn is another, and it is not needed. Place your anger at the proper direction.

Right now CD and EBay are in a good match up to see who will finish 2nd this week.

You can find maybe 1 or 2 good fights each week between servers. Last week, it was Dark Haven, edging out FC. This week CD and Ebay for 2nd. Kaineng and ET were really close for 2nd until last night when ET took over. But, it has been back and fourth all week. I wonder if Kaineng has it in them to fight til reset and snag ninja the match, like Dark Haven did last Friday.

Why are we talking about tier queue servers in the silver league thread?

Because watching SoR implode from the outside is rather interesting.

I’m surprised it wasn’t more BG. BG I would assume would be first as it is built largely on pve (fair weathers) and transfer.

BG is made up of past T1 implosions and a lot of people who are dedicated to staying in that tier. After facing them for the first time in months I can say that it’s actually their strength that they aren’t built around a hub of large guilds but are many smaller guilds.

Also SoR got their act together so no one is going away any time soon.

SoR is fine atm. It’s really annoying that BG can turn all our T3 to nothing AND fortify it during ZDs PvDoor time. Discourages many people from trying anymore.

It’s funny that you say that, because that is what you do to any non t1 competition.

But, you are a t1 server, shouldn’t you guys have a backbone? Just because they flipped everything, you should not be giving up.

I think where the failure is lies in the rewards. You don’t get nowhere near enough rewards for doing DEs compared to other things, because karma is not very useful. Also, doing something extremely short and simple like killing a champion gives the same if not more rewards than a long DE like escorting someone, so no one does the escorts.

We agree, this is something we’ve been discussing a lot lately and working on some various answers for, but I’m curious:

What rewards would you like to see from rewards? Would they be different when you’re leveling up than when you’re level 80? What would motivate you to want to go around the world playing as many different events as possible, rather than the same 4-5 over and over again?

Some of the fun challenges we are currently solving, but it’s great to hear peoples thoughts on this subject as well.

Actually, Karma is very useful for crafting ascended items. I go to Orr and get those jewelry boxes and enjoy all the obsidian shards that I get from them.

I know there are other ways to get Obsidian shards, but Karma is a great way to get them.

Replace PPT. I think its the biggest contributor of stacking servers. It encourages off hour play and having more off hour players, which makes it unfair for those who don’t play off hours or don’t have enough off hour players

Replace PPT with system similar to points gained from stomps when you capture nodes/ruins. Towers gives 10 points per kill, keep gives 30 points per kill, camps gives 5 points per kill. This basically don’t reward timezones where its PVDoor, when theres noone to kill. This will work well for most NA/EU servers that don’t have off hours players and encourage fights

Under this system, the good guild and players would try to form alliances and move to other servers esp to lower tiers wheres theres very little players that give needless points to hostile server.

So, tell the people who play off hours to take a hike, and make the match only decided by the prime time players?

That right there makes your solution fail, because the game mode is 24/7 and everyone needs to be considered.

So, if prices for server transfers were based on WvW population, what would a fair distribution of costs look like from the lowest population servers to the highest? Keep in mind that making it completely impossible to transfer to a server puts a burden on other players. That doesn’t mean that you couldn’t have an incredibly high price, just that completely blocked isn’t an option.

Transfer to lowest Tier/Populated servers for each region needs to be free. Any gem cost, even if it is very little, will turn people away just for the mere fact there is kitten cost. Is this an option or do your overlords insist on having a gem cost for every single transfer?

There has been debate on what exactly defines “low” WvW server since there is PvE population, not everyone does WvW. Right now however it is crystal clear even without statistics which servers need help, which are in the middle, and which are completely dominating due to population. If we ever get to the point where population advantage vs success becomes too muddled – that means things are much better place than they are now. So pick a metric (rank, server pop, total hours spent in wvw, etc.) and go with it, and adjust as things start to balance out.

Maybe, full charge to transfer into gold, half price for silver, free for bronze.

I am not sure if you have read my post two pages ago, why focusing on the “players transfer problem” if you can just get rid of it once and for all? ^^;

If you get rid of players transferring, then you are saying you want the imbalance that currently resides on all the servers.

Transferring is a service the player can choose, and it should be left for them to decide if they want to stay on their server or leave to another.

If you transfer up you should “ride the pine” if you transfer down, there should be no penalties. This is basically what we should be trying to accomplish is it not ? To try and populate the less populated servers ? I think alot of people think there will be some sort of mass exodus from the top servers to the bottom servers mid season so thats why they feel there should be a penalty for any and all transfers. Most players do not want to be steam rolled or do the steam rolling, they want fights, your not going to see all of JQ (for example) transfer down to GoM and PvD for 7 weeks.

Would love to see this as well. I don’t know why they can’t make a nice little addition to the hero panel menu, under finishers, that would be called “builds”, so people could switch between preset trait builds (and maybe add gear build with it)

How about if Anet puts a countdown timer on the WvW page showing time until match complete? Same with the daily and monthly achievements.

Personally I liked the 8PM Central Time reset as it gave me time to eat dinner, now I need to eat early.

I would rather them just spend the time they would on changing that in the website, to adding more into the game.

You need to offer free transfer OFF t1 servers

What would this accomplish? They could just transfer to a t2 server, and now that t2 server can become the next stacked t1 server.

I remember the days when the end of free transfers happened. That is when our t1 server (SBI) started its plummet to t5. Oh, and then Kaineng rose from the depths of t8 to t2. Don’t really think transfers from t1 servers will solve the problems, cause t2 and t3 servers would still smash t4, t5, t6, t7, t8 servers.

i’m seeing a trend -

it seems casual wvw’rs favor the “score isn’t much to me, i don’t only wvw, so price will affect my choice, these guys are rude and the ques are long so i’ll transfer down”

the hard core player favors making it easy to transfer up “4 packed servers would be sweet, just remove a few empty servers”

the hard core players loyal to their server “break up the t1 so they can’t roflstomp us”

the people in t1 “haha, as if i plan to move, just fix the kitten que, skill lag, filter out the pve players and I’m good”

anet is like “yeah, transfers are good, i like this subject.”

People forget that transfers used to be free. So, stop trying to pin the server transferring to anet just wanting to be greedy.

I agree, transfers are good. It is an option for players, and it is a freedom those players have.

I will maintain that the scoring system is the biggest issue, since it doesn’t take into account the imbalance of population coverage.

Anet will not be able to balance servers, through restricting transfers, etc, for 24 hour coverage. Their will still be imbalances that could lead to blow out matches.

Sticking to the lines of transfers, what are reasonable restrictions to place on players after they transfer? No WvW for the rest of the match? No WvW for 24 hours? Would that help any or would it actually exacerbate the problem?

In the interest of WVW, I feel that individuals that transfer should be prohibited from WVW for the duration of the current season. This restriction could be lifted during the off-season. This would allow guilds and individuals to freely shift around during the off-season. Also, it would act to maintain a level of competition during the season by preventing the over stacking that we are currently observing.

I have played this game since nearly the beginning, and the one act that causes many players to stop playing WVW or give up is the over stacking of servers. I feel that the transfer restriction would combat this, and through encouraging “In-season” competition, more players would continue to enjoy the game.

Devon, Thank you for your time and consideration in making our game better.

That is absurd. What about the people who transferred off t1 servers, so they could actually get into wvw to play? Your response would leave them with only 1 option, and that would be to play the queue game, and hope they can play. That would also affect everyone else on their server. By transferring off, they were able to actually play WvW, and free up some queue space for other people on their old server.

They already have it set up that you can only transfer once a week. I don’t think you should punish players and not allow them to even play wvw because they transferred.

This isn’t going to solve the problem. This will just allow lower tier pop servers to buy guilds cheaper than higher pop servers, thus just stacking other servers.

Sure, it will change the balance of power, but at the end of the day, their will still be nothing but blow out matches.

Scoring is the real issue, and how to a scoring system that can take in population imbalance would be the key to success. But that system is very hard to design.

Lets all not forget how fast SBI fair weathers flee though as we saw pre-league. The organized guilds will need to push kitten SBI over the weekend to maintain it close to keep fair weathers active.

This is very true, but we’ve also gotten some fresh transfers who hopefully won’t run at the first sign of a challenge.

Just some friendly advice. You’re SEA time slot will be in trouble if all they do is pvd. I’ve honestly seen nothing but poor showing in fighting terms from this week— now there could be many factors to this as well such as build testing, alts, k train mode,etc. Just want to make you guys aware. Don’t know if it’s cause easy week or what.

Well, in the match up with FA and DB, our SEA is fine. DB has a nice SEA presence, and when they log off, there are some PvD time. The problem comes in the unemployment time, from 1pm to 8pm. That is where FA was able to pull away from us in the first match up (on Tuesday, afternoon).

But, if we manage to hold our own during the night, and out tick them during overnight hours, we will be ok.

Remember, they only beat YB by 80k, and I believe most of that came during the week. We are doing much better against YB.

They need to tell us what the tie breaker will be. I am pretty sure they didn’t think there would be a tie, but now that it looks like SBI will most likely beat FA in week 7, leaving the silver league with a tie for 1st.

They need to tell us, so we know how to better position ourselves for that, if it happens.

I really think that limiting people’s freedom of movement isn’t going to solve the WvW issues. What we really need is what golf, and bowling have. We need handicaps.

The problem is, how could you implement an effective handicap, that would not be exploitable? Also, the handicap needs to not be a means to punish the server with more population, but just to help even the playing field for the servers with less population.

Maybe scale the strength of guards based on the population within the zone. So say, server A has 30 people running in the zone, and server B has 5 (and it is server B’s home bl). Now, as it stands now, server A is gonna take the whole BL, and tick like crazy all night, leaving server B in a whole they can’t get out of.

So, with this kind of a disparity, strengthen the guards so server A just can’t easily PvD their way to victory. Add some extra guards in the towers and keep, and if server A had built some siege before they logged, then allow these guards to use the siege. Make it harder for server A to take the BL, while server B is sleeping.

Maybe, make an npc squad that could automatically trigger (like siegemaster), that could go out and take back towers and keeps that the enemy have left unattended in Server B’s bl.

Sure, that is a lot of pve to add to wvw, but, when there is an absence of players, npcs would be better than nothing.

Something really needs done to the scoring, to make the matches competitve, no matter the population imbalance. This would benefit WvW for the near and long term, as the game ages and less people play.

I think it would be nice to earn points for each kill (not just when you finish him) when you have the buff. It maybe would solve some population issues, so for example, Vizunah have a great coverage and can own any server on EU league, but on open field they aren’t that good, so maybe would be all more balanced.

@Andrew Clear, well i doubt what you say, if a server wins by nightcap, ususally is because there are just a few enemies, so they couldn’t earn that much points from kills during night time.

But, you can also just not fight in the prime time, so you don’t lose ground on the other servers, and let the small night crew try to make up for it. etc, etc, etc.

This approach, if kills were the only points, would seriously hamper the game mode. Would be easy to exploit.

I like having kills added to the score, but there has to be more than just that.

We already complain about uplevels and rally bait. Stop being a care bear. To make it not about enough coverage, get rid of the PPT. There are other incentives for cappings and holding. Add something similar to relics like in DAoC, and make it way harder to cap. You still get WxP for caps.

Wouldn’t help on the coverage issue. The server with the most people on at night, will easily destroy the server with less. Unless, the server with less doesn’t come out to fight, which then leads to WvW = no fighting at all = boring and everyone quits.

I’ve found myself playing WvW far less than I did before leagues and I used to spend 80% of my time in Gw2 in WvW. So I’m playing GW2 less now. But I like the idea and I can’t exactly pinpoint why WvW isn’t as fun anymore.

They said each server was gonna play each other server at least once. After that, it looks like they tried to match up the #2 and #1 seed only twice during the season. After that it seemed to be that the higher seeds faced the lower ones less than they would face the middle ones.

SBI was #1 seed of the silver. They end up facing the #2 twice, #3 three times, #4 three times, etc. They only face #9, and #8, once.

The numbers are from this year. BG has done nothing but to continue to buy guilds.

A week ago someone from BG was trying to incite guilds to move there. After confronting them, they said that the guilds didn’t need to move to BG… meaning BG is buying spies. We now have to face potential spies in addition to the treacherous guilds that go there.

It is pretty sad that people want to win WvW so bad that they have to buy guilds and spies.

Their patches are just new game builds. Actual server maintenance that requires downtime has to do with hardware maintenance, and / or deploying a new server build on all the servers.

Could be potentially fatal for some servers in this league play. Close matches could become land slides in those down timed maintenance if one of the three servers stacks up a huge ppt before the shutdown.

By looking at MOS, it appears that they have stopped keeping score for the maintenance.

love it. It has brought more people into wvw, and the scoring system (5/3/1) is better than the glico system.

Wish it could be more competitive, but they can iron that stuff out for the next season. Right now, the matches are no different than the rng ones, but with better scoring, and prizes at the end.

That and theres been talk of them getting more xfers recently cause people dont give a kitten about leagues anymore.

Yep, and it only happens in the green bl. Now, if you are green and greatly outnumber the other server (overall), then you have no problem winning the week.

But, if you are close in numbers, then having your bl decimated hurts alot.

You know, you can’t get rid of pugs / militia, they are going to find their way into WvW. The smart servers use them to benefit the servers. The dumb servers, dismiss them as inferior, and lost to those smart servers.

We have sports in real life that poach players all the time, its accepted practice, to the highest bidder goes the spoils.

But in sports (at least in US sports leagues) this is generally regulated by salary caps — preventing teams from dominating just by having deeper pockets.

Only the NFL has a real salary cap. The rest are a joke. Baseball does not have one and the disparity shows. The NBA doesn’t have a true cap either, and again, the disparity shows.

What do you claim is buying guilds? Is it paying for their transfers, either in part or wholly? Is that buying guilds?

Is buying guilds paying gold in excess of transfer to fees? or would it be buying guilds if you paid them 2 transfer fees for their entrance and exit from a server. and gold on top of that?

I’ll do you one better, I’ll describe the situation.

SoR dominated BG through the first 3 days of its match up last week. Sunday night going into Monday morning Blackgate paid a Russian guild an extremely large sum of gold to transfer to their server just for the league. The guild has already stated that they have no intentions of staying on BG and are only be paid to help them win league. As SoR has no players in their particular time slot (9aPST/12pEST) the guild continues to flip all borderlands uncontested.

Now SoR players are quitting the game left and right. The league was viewed as the savior of WvW for a large section of the base but now that one server has gone to the extreme to literally ‘pay-to-win’ a lot of the player base has lost faith in leagues and ArenaNet.

Honestly, I don’t really feel sad for you on this part. SoR, JQ, and BG have gone months in their little bubble, not caring at all about the rest of the WvW community. Now, you guys are starting to feel what 21 other serves have been feeling for months. A lot of the players on JQ, SoR, and BG transferred there from the 21 other servers, and it hurt those servers.

IoJ got destroyed by the preseason transfers. Anvil Rock dropped like a rock during the summer, when no one even knew about transfers. Kaineng, DB, dropping like rocks as people transferred off.

Some of those guilds were bought. And, actively recruiting guilds, whether paying for them or not, is what YOUR SERVER, JQ, and BG have been doing for a while now.

Servers rise and fall in this game. SBI was once in your position, and we lost a lot of guilds in Jan. Now, where are a lot of those guilds and players now? On SoR, BG, and JQ.

You have hit a rough patch, and your server is falling apart. But, let me tell you, if you handle it correctly, you will be able to salvage it. If you keep acting this way, you will drop. People will transfer, and you will have to build back up your community.

Ultimately, you win and lose as a server. The community needs to come first. We have built up a good community on SBI, and after falling to FA, we came together, fixed our problems, and no one left. We didn’t implode, like deathtouch on maguuma kept predicting we would.

Just give up on it. They know it is broke, so they are creating a whole new system, that deals with an overflow map.

That should tell you that their tech for the queue is so broke, that it isn’t even worth spending the resources on fixing it.

I still think a rename to ‘Lottery’ would be nice. It’s not fair to be lied to day in and day out when im in queue for an hour vs others who pop in 5 minutes.

On SBI, we usually just keep requeueing constantly. It seems to help us get in faster. But sometimes, we will be in the queue forever as well.

I can only imagine how bad it is on SoR.
