Yep, I approve this message too. FFXIV does it, but it is easier because you have only 1 character that plays all the classes.

On the other hand, Anet could queue up your main character, let you switch characters, and when the queue pops, transfer you into WvW, but log you onto your main character.

Only problem there would be, what happens if a person goes completely offline? They would have to implement a feature that would determine if the game was completely closed or just went to the login screen.

It is doable. The programming wouldn’t be that bad for this. The question is, do they want to invest the time into doing this, since they designed the game not to do this.

Hmm, I have to contradict my earlier post and agree with you Andrew. I was a bit upset and made the post right after a heavy slaughter fest.
The season is in my opinion still a success, despite the cons I described in the OP.
WSR was actually winning in the first half of the first matchup because it brought people to WvW for the achievements and a considerable amount stayed for the fights/fun. This made our first matchup very exciting and fun, which (ofcourse) is a success.

We actually had all 4 maps queued for a short time monday night and thursday night. Other than reset night, that never happens on SBI. Was just awesome to think that many people is in WvW.

Anet hasn’t done anything to make WvW balanced, quite opposite they’ve stated it will never be balanced.

Apparently making mindless zergling gamemode and call it some kind of competition makes them more money than actually competitive pvp in any form. Looking at the numbers in game this is probably also true.

If WvW was actually even closely some kind of form of open world pvp, it would be actually fun. But it isn’t open world. It’s just whack-a-door. It doesn’t really reward you much, although it’s 1000x times more rewarding than this.. thing.. they call spvp. At least you get skins you can like.. use in whole game. Counting out spvp of course, it might unbalance things if armor would look same there.

In the FA/DB/SBI match up last week, we (SBI) has some whack-a-door, but we also had a lot of fights trying to take things (as well as defending things).

Whether they have the same size is irrelevant to the argument. NFL is more balanced due to the salary cap, but college is heavily imbalanced, no matter the size. Other pro leagues are heavily imbalanced due to payroll size.

Imbalanced, is imbalanced no matter if it is roster size, payroll size, recruiting advantages, etc.

We of Whiteside Ridge were tired of the easy servers like Fissure of Woe and Vabbi, we wanted to play with the other big servers! This season we can show our true value against higher tier servers as Ring of Fire (lol) and Ruins of Surmia. A truly great idea!
I especially like that they introduced no armor damage in WvW and a permanent WXP and magic find boost!
All sarcasm aside, heres a random screenshot were you can see Blacktide and Ring of Fire (lol) literally fighting over our last remaining blue point on the map.
If you or your guild is looking for WvW on hard mode please strengthen the numbers of Whiteside Ridge, it’s much appreciated.

I like the seasons. And, actually, with this structure, you have a better chance of finishing higher than you could in the glicko system.

Plus, the season (and achievements) have brought back people, and in some cases, brought out some new people. The insane map queues are awesome (I like the fact that people are playing WvW again).

I consider it a success, even though FA did beat us in the 1st week. Can’t wait for the rematch.

It’s a PvP game mode, (in spite of what a net says) therefore it should have at least some sort of balance in place. As it stands right now having the same 7-9 stacked servers being the only competitive ones is a problem, in spite of any apologists arguments.

I also want to point out, that the same 7-9 stacked servers were stacked by the players, not Anet. Who are you to tell those players they couldn’t transfer if they wanted to? If the players want all the servers to be competitive, then it is up to us to police ourselves. But, the reality is, a lot of players don’t want that. They just want to be on a server with huge fights, coverage, etc. That is what is fun to them. If they want to spend the money to get there, then so be it. If they want to be stuck in a queue during the season, that is on them.

Everyone pointed out that queues on top ranked servers were going to be the worst ever. Why are people surprised when everyone else was right?

Agreed. It is either transfer, or deal with it. Last night we had some people in the SBI BL que for hours, and when they got in, the other servers had already left our BL and there was nothing to do. Feel sorry for them, cause they were stuck in a dead BL, with the only option of leaving WvW for the night, playing around in the BL, or sitting in another long queue to have some fun. And, we aren’t even a t1 server.

On the other hand, FA’s matchup is 8 vs 10 vs 14. Now, they should in theory, be blowing out their competition, but they are losing atm. They will prevail during the week.

Every league will have blowouts, that is just how it goes (I am talking about a much bigger picture than just WvW). Leagues are designed to be competitive, so you are fighting for your wins. In this case, you are fighting for 5 points or 3 points (I hope no one is really fighting for 1 point).

Just stay focused, get through the week, and plan for the next match up. Which might, or might not, be a blowout.

When I bought this game and got big into WvW, there was no mechanisms in place to guarantee months of blowouts (SoS has already been fighting t1+ TC for 5 weeks straight and have 5 more for certain and possibly even more after the season thanks to RNG.

As messed up as tiers could get at times, you were never fighting anyone ranked more than 2 ranks higher. Now we’re being led to believe that Northern Shiverpeaks T6(some sort of sandbagging by other servers I guess got them to T5) issupposed to be competitive with a server that was a hair away from being Tier 2?

Actually, with all the transfers off of IoJ, NSP will not finish last in the Silver League.

We don’t know how server transfers, PvE players, morale, etc, will effect the outcome of the leagues. Yes, population and coverage is king, and in a 24/7 match up, coverage will always be king.

And, didn’t everyone say SBI was gonna roll the Silver League? Well, we lost our 1st match to FA, who got a guild a few days before leagues started, as well as they were able to rally PvE guilds to their cause in WvW. They had better organization as well, and were able to demoralize some of our fair weathers, and they rolled to victory. Also, DB didn’t really show up until oceanic and sea time.

Now, FA is having a battle this reset weekend with YB. So, there is some competition going on with the leagues, and the outcome isn’t completely determined yet.

I think we had over 40 last night, just from our guild, in the green BL. We also had other people in there as well.

If green is your BL, and you see that you have low numbers, but a queue, then check the ruins and the jumping puzzle. We had that problem all last week against FA. Hard to combat a 60+ man zerg with 20 to 30 people on the tag (and the map was queued the whole time).

2. (Playstyle): WvW and PvE. Mainly play WvW these days.
3. (Fun): Yes, I have had a lot of fun. Fort Aspenwood wouldn’t have brought the numbers they did if it wasn’t a season, and that made our match up fun as hell. I also like the new scoring system. It is much better than that crappy one they had before the season started. The fights have also been bigger as well, which is more fun.

WvW is playable for me. Sure, we have some skill lag here and there, but I deal with it (and most the people I run with do, as well). The thing is, if there is problem (ie, skill lag), you need to anticipate it, and plan for it. That is all.

The queues, well, the achievements and the season have brought out a lot of WvW players. The system is also broke, so keep on queueing.

Then everyone would get a commander tag and skip the queue…and crash the servers.

TBH I expected this on the first week. I was even wondering how could we cap SM 5 time for the meta achievement. Finishing second on the first week was a huge surprise even more since IoJ did beat us pretty hard the last two time they fought us.

The way the match up seems to work we will probably never face them. It look like it’s the 3 winners face each other, 3 second place and the 3 third.

IoJ will finish last in the silver league. A lot of guilds stacked that server in the hopes of winning Silver, then the new divisions were announced, and right before league play a lot of their guilds transferred off. Core left for FA to win silver, and well, YB is giving them a lot of grief so far. It seems hard for FA to battle in a real 3 way battle (DB rarely even showed up for our match up).

I want to say, Ebay, I loved your tenacity last night in SBI BL. Had some awesome fights. I wish you guys wouldn’t have left our map though, because we were stuck there, with nothing to do, thanks to all them queues.

Yeah, they swear they don’t run in zergs (just like mag does). I guess, when Core and Hope join up to fight you at once, it isn’t a huge zerg at that moment.

The weekend wasn’t too bad for us, but they pulled away during the weekdays, in the afternoon when we don’t have a lot of coverage. That will be the test for you YB.

I have little memory on actually rolling FA last night. Of course I wasent all there lol. Did we actually beat FA in a fight? I had a riot leading that last night, I know everyone on TS was enjoying themselves.

Yes. Abyss had a zerg rolling though there, with a lot of pugs added into the mix. Was a blast. We were constantly fighting battle after battle with FA last night, and winning. I loved it. FA kept throwing different guilds at us the whole time. One minute it was Hope, then Ret, then Core, then rinse and repeat. After about a good hour or two of this, our BL was abandoned.

Can’t wait to meet up with kittenain in 6 weeks. That matchup should determine if we both are 1st (don’t know what the tiebreaker would be), or if FA has sole possession of 1st.

Yeah it was fun. But then again, so was running around without pants on and debating what you guys were doing in Briar. I will give mad props to that portal bomb. First one that’s worked on us in a long time. Next time though, just bring your guild and not the pugs!

I got left out of the bomb. I had to jump down and try to catch up. Missed all the action.

Well, the pug issue is tricky. Considering we had a map queue, and only 50 people on the zerg (most abyss), we know there were several other pugs running around doing nothing. I stress nothing, because only camps or ruins getting capped at the time was by people in abyss, or a militia member in TS.

When we would assault FA BL, it didn’t seem that you had the same problem that plagued our BL over the week. A map queued, and only 20 people on the commander (if there even was a commander).

Have fun the next 6 weeks. I wonder if either of our servers will suffer some upset from a server that stacked without us knowing (maybe YB?).

Yeah, the size is still the same. There just seems to be a problem with too many people doing their own things within the zone.

Sometimes, you can see 70 people in the zerg. Later, that same zerg might end up at being 30 people. Where did the other 40 go? Always a mystery when the map is still queued.

It will be and it will fall in line with the other Ascended crafted gear. I don’t want to talk specifics until we are locked in, but the idea would be that you can relatively easily acquire the item that is replacing the fractal item. You will still be able to use the fractal items as well.

I like to farm for months, and I have 6 level 80s atm. It gives me something else to do, and helps me avoid burnout. Plus, it really is a good time killer when I am in a 2 to 3 hour queue on reset night.

What happened to all of SBI’s guilds that use to run as guild groups only? I know you guys might not be facing many guilds from FA that run tagless now, but I miss seeing the 3-4 different guild groups on the same map. We figured at least this week out of all 7 weeks, we’d at least have a variety of guilds to fight that run decent sized groups (20-35) but its been really disappointing. While we had fun tonight hopping map to map, there is no competitive satisfaction from beating up on groups that have 30 or more non guildies.

And for the record, HOPE and so many of us on FA wanted nothing more than to be in gold. You guys faced a server that was really licking its wounds last time we fought, in the two months prior, every match we had was decided by almost 100k points or more. It’s not ideal at all, but silver lets FA get back up to where we use to be.

I hope to see actual guild groups out and about at some point this matchup. I think i saw ING from DB that was running some good numbers, so hopefully we can get some good fights.

If you’re a guild that wants to GvG, please let me know.

Unfortunately we can’t bring more than one guild per map(20-30) because it gets queued up, so only half will make it in. I am not sure if that’s from achievement hunters, people just now getting interested in WvW, the jumping puzzle duels, ECT., but that’s most likely the reason you will only see one per map.

And, the only night that we spanked you in PPT, was Monday, and that night Beast and Abyss were both able to get into your BL, and keep you busy there, while other guilds were able to take back SBI, and wreak havoc on DB.

Sadly, we can’t get any organization anymore, and we haven’t been able to attack you on your BL like we did that night, because our BL is getting whacked in the afternoon by you.

Why is FA so disrespectful. We know our skill level. We know the skill level of our opponents, but we don’t disrespect them on the forums if we roll them. And, NV, I don’t really think you should be talking trash.

I guess you transferred to the wrong places. Some of these silver league servers have some really good communities. Plus, there are some good battles to be had.

Well, there is a reward for defending, but since it isn’t loot, it seems no one cares. The league is a competition, and holding your stuff equals more points. Just because it doesn’t drop a chest, or more bloodstone dust (which you will have way too much of anyways), or more emp stars (which again, you will have way too much of), doesn’t mean that there is no reward.

You do get karma and stuff for repealing defenders. But still, it is about the ppt.

Also, when defending, you can farms some serious bags (Abyss, on SBI has been farming FA in the southern towers all week, while defending). So, you can get loot out of defending as well.

People just don’t look at it that way. Defending can be a blast. It usually involves a good fight. Why do people complain about not getting rewards for defending, when they clearly exist. I guess, fun, bags, wxp, karma, holding ppt, and pride just isn’t enough for some people.

Our server has plenty of number, but you will have a map queued and only a 20 man zerg, in our own BL, and we will barely have anything in it.

It is a shame…

Guess you can just hang out in EB. Back when SBI was t5, our BL would be understaffed at nights, but EB would always have numbers.

JPs aren’t causing skills lags. The amount of players, playing in WvW is causing the lag. They need to optimize the code, and probably upgrade the servers, in order to alleviate the skill lag.

As far as queues go, well, you just have to deal with that. It is nice that there are enough people playing WvW to make all the maps queued.

Yep, and I’m having a great time as well (tired of running into CORE and HOPE all the time).

We have epic fights on all the BLs. Sadly, Dragonbrand doesn’t have many numbers at night, so the epic fights there are usually between FA and SBI.

FA has a quick response time, and hops between maps. Makes it fun.

Our map (SBI), is getting whacked, due to people doing their own things, and little to no organization. Sad, when the map is queued and only a 30 man zerg….

But, we are having a blast in silver. I am sure you could have fun on any one of the servers. I don’t know your play time, but I know in our matchup, that the NA primetime sees a lot of action, even through the night. Dragonbrand has a strong asian presence and they are a beast in the morning. FA is kind of light around that time, and SBI has decent numbers, but not DB numbers at that time. But, from 1 or 2 pm eastern time, to 8pm eastern, SBI doesn’t have much coverage, but FA does.

So, if you are to transfer to a silver league server, research the servers, and when the most action is. Also, look into their communities.

Please, don’t even say that. There are gonna be plenty of people who finish the meta, that barely contributed anything to their server during the seven weeks. But, sadly, they get the same reward as the people who worked hard to get their server to finish where it does.

BTW, I wouldn’t really stress out over the rewards. My guess, they will be a joke. A finisher….not really that special. Whatever else is in that chest, isn’t gonna be special. They aren’t dropping legendaries for first place finishers.

Winning is about “coverage” and not “skill” . Probably true.

IMO though, all servers have enough people to queue all maps all the time. Convincing them to do so is not easy and takes skill. A special kind of skill.

Are you guys fielding a militia commander on each BL? With the new influx of PvE players a Commander designated for them seems to keep their participation up.

Last night we had a problem finding people on the map. For people who don’t know, SBI seems to take Saturday and Monday off, most the time. This week, we were in full force Monday, but then, we took Tuesday off it seems. That Tuesday break really hurt, especially after catching back up.

I just had to LOL at that. Sure sometimes we get face rolled, but sometimes you have been face rolled in the open field as well. Last night we had a very huge battle in your BL, just outside of hills, and you were getting rolled. The only reason we had to fall back is that you were able to get your dead back to the fight quicker from garrison, than we could from spawn.

Coverage and numbers wins. But you also need leadership, because it is not just numbers, it is what you do with those numbers.

Anyways, been fun so far this week, and with how things have been going, SBI could go on a tear tonight and cut the lead down again. Can’t believe we had it down to 3k just to fall back to 20k.

This is not the biggest WvW patch in 6 months, not in 1 month either, simply because it didn’t change WvW at all except for adding achievements and changing the matchup system

The wvw season is a great step in the right direction. You have an incentive to finish 1st and second now. None of this “Oh lets just focus on fights,” mentality.

I honestly can’t tell if you’re trolling, but I hope you are. “We gotta switch focus from playing because it’s fun to playing to get a reward”… really?

No trolling here. You are in a league, this is competition. 5 points, 3 points, 1 point. There is a big difference between 3 points and 1 point, during the course of a season.

If you are going to just run around and focus on fights, then you are gonna lose, plain and simple. You have to have ppt, and points to win.

You might want to focus on fights and cost your server victory, but not everybody does.

And, if 2v1 is done right, upsets can happen.

Cant take anyone serious who just stated they are in WvW for the rewards.

Maybe, maybe not. You don’t know why they are there, and even if they are there for the rewards, they might end up staying because they enjoy it.

I love how the league has brought out the worst of the WvW community.

I’m a pure pve player and I usually detest any form of pvp but the I got tempted into wvw the other night (mostly for the ap yea). So I joined a party of some people from my alliance and have to say that I enjoyed it better than I would like to admit. I did offcourse gear/trait on of my 80’s for wvw and looked up viable builds, and honestly didnt do too shabby in zergs or smaller 5v5 battles. Its not like I was actively looking wich achievements I still need and ignoring everything else. I genuinly had fun, mostly due to beeing in party and mumble with people who play wvw alot more often though. Even had most fun in the smaller battles since the big zergs are kind of a lag fest. And since we won most smaller encounter I’m probably doing something right. Offcourse I could have just been encountering other people like myself the whole time I was in wvw :p

And you’re exactly the type of player I’d love to see more of; people who assumed they’d hate WvW and find out it’s actually fun.

Ditto. Even though my prior post was harsh against pve’rs, we all started there. That being said, you’ll find the wvw community much more helpful, with very little elitists compared to pve. I read about the dungeon/fractal elitists booting, scorning newbies all the time. I have never been treated badly in wvw. Never.
You’ll find your wvw community to be very helpful, and always have your back. Just pay attn. to the do’s and don’ts, and you’ll love it. Welcome aboard.

You know, if there was a kick option in WvW, the same crap would happen. I myself hate that. in FFXIV, they won’t let you kick people out of dungeons, and that is how it should be.

League isn’t anymore of a joke than what we had before leagues. I am loving the leagues. The scoring system will be much better than some crappy, let’s hope for a good draw from the rng, system.

Sure, the playing field isn’t even, but that exists in most sports. The NFL is the only sport where the playing field seems to be even. In baseball, and basketball, it’s all about which teams spend the most money. In college sports, it’s all about recruiting, and the big conference schools have an advantage in that.

I can’t wait to see how the league will play out. Why can’t anyone just sit back, relax, and play the game. See how the league goes, and then make suggestions about where to go.

The queues are also bugged. While one person can be in one for 3 hours, another person, can queue up within those three hours and get in within 10 minutes. Oh, and that is the same map, as well.

You need to refresh the queue, after awhile, or you might be waiting til you long in the next day.

It’s a total jeopardy. Players who wants to play are stucked and then there some people how give a kitten about their servers.

I think he would say, that you brought this on yourself, by recruiting guilds to your server. That is what he is trying to say. It isn’t just about the people who transferred, but the people who were there since day 1 as well.
