Like i said first days…when you see prince vingador in top 10 you already know something is NOT working…at all, let alone the #1 guy playing hambow and popping all stances at once as soon as someone gets too close (Just an example…and there are many others..)

This is a team game, kills, assists and so on have no meaning here…you already have your pie chart divided per class (Also with rated\unrated tournament games\wins) You can’t divide stats based on builds rofl…what if i change 1 trait to fit enemy team for example? Builds are almost always a bit different depending on enemy comp..or at least..they should be…

Region based stats would have no meaning too since 90% playerbase in pvp atm are just pve\wvsw heroes farming for chests, achievements, daily and only god knows what else…

There is a reason.

Here we would have like 20-30 ppl in platinum\gold\whatever…and after those an ocean of pve heroes in bronze farming for chests, achievements, title or whatever . High level pvp in EU is just about no more then always the same 20-30 ppl (And it’s pretty optimistic) otside that there’s just…nothing. And this is why most games are 500 – <100 roflstomps…still i can’t see the reason why good players has to be punished with max 1 pnt no matter what for winning with their team (This is a team game after all) while bad ones are rewarded when losing..if you don’t have\make a team it’s your fault…i personally wouldn’t even allow anything that is not a 5ppl premade to go into ranked…if you’re less then 5 ppl you can just go unranked or hotjoin (With no rewards, track and so on). This would give a way better team based ladder (As it should be) promoting ppl to play as a team not as a bunch of headless chickens on meth…wanna see ppl starting to play in half decent way? Just stop giving rewards to losers, no rewards at all in hotjoin (Or practice like they like to call it now) no matter if you win or lose…some silvers for winning team in unranked…and reward track only from winning ranked matches, in both ranked and unranked if you lose you get nothing…not less…just..ZERO

I assure you’re gonna see ppl trying to organize teams and play decently pop up in no time…instead of just randomly going solo with no clue

If you’re expected to loose you’re not a good team…good teams should be expected to loose only a few games once in a while or noone at all, regardless who they face

When football teams play vs trash ones do they get less points? Or bad team gets points when losing just because they weren’t expected to win? No..noone gives a kitten if they were supposed to lose or not, if you lose you get nothing…end of the story. At the end of the season the team that won most matches, and with better win\loss ratio always ends on top…you will never see bad ones get something just because they tryharded a lot and failed

It’s made for pve\wvsw heroes…they can’t set up decent teams, l2p and win so they just made ladders farm based…rewarding points even when losing, pve guys can now go pvp like going into dungeons…if you cap close with 2 ppl, go boss at start and get rekt most of the times np, you’re still gonna earn points and go up on the long run

thanks for your input. I like the new system. I"m not sure it is fair to say that baddies can just show up and win 50% of their games. Or even average people. I see that you are EU, but in NA – I’ve played against/with some of the top 10 and they are legit. They are typing out orders telling people what to do and playing to win.

I am still new to taking this pvp seriously in GW2, mostly due to the reset. Before the reset I was trying to dig out of the losses from when I was learning…it was daunting and I was inching my way out of the “Percent” bracket.

I really like the restart and it is making a person like me – a mid-skilled player – really get into this and try to be better….because I have a shot at top 250 now.

Again, thanks for helping me understand this better and any advise you can give to newer players who are trying to break-in to the group would always be welcomed.

The only advice for new players is to watch esl weekly and try to learn roles and rotations..but for god’s sake dont’ look at leaderboards…

I have about 1400 games on warrior, 500 on guardian, and 400 on ranger.

For the other classes combined I have…about 40 (with 25 of them on ele). If I’m in practice mode it’s extremely likely I’m doing one of the PvP dailies on one of the classes I don’t play much.

Because even at rank 80 I probably play those classes like a rank 10 headless chicken.

well 2k games is almost nothing btw….expec if it’s total games and not only team tournament ones…hotjoin/custom arena games count 0 as pvp experience, high level players probably just go there because there’s no reason to tryhard atm, ladder rewarding farmers with less than 60% win/loss ratio and top 100 full of nonames…pretty much the opposite of what “competitive” means

Go look for battosai, best ranger time ago and probably still the best….he was really good when rangers weren’t carried by ai…or just spamming entangle around

Ranked Match. Some guy says to team, “Nobody go to far unless you can kill something.”

I play a bunker. I can hold of 1 or 2 for quite a while. I like to go to far and do that because it gives me a well-delineated role that helps the team win at the other points.

Thoughts?

If you can hold 1v1 on far point keeping it neutral it’s fine

If you can hold 2+ ppl on their point it’s fine

1v1 on neutral point means situation is even as long as you don’t die, same goes for 1v2 on their point…ofc if you can 1v2 while also keeping it neutral (As decrap engis used to do in every single match during decap meta) you’re giving your team a huge advantage…it’s all about maths after all

If you get matched vs bad ppl going far is actually a good tactic since most times, if you run a pretty bunker spec on war, engi or ele you can easily stay 1v2 (Even 1v3) while keeping it contested for some time while you teams is, hopefully, gonna win on other points…sometimes i also go far at start on shatter mesmer, if they don’t have a thief there ofc, just because even if i will never be able to hold the point i can still force at least 2 of them to chase me around kiting them all day, dropping portal and going away after some time and then come back to decap as soon as they leave…randoms literally LOVE to chase mesmers around for some reason, and while they’re doing that my team can easily outnumber them on mid and get the cap

Ofc any half decent player will never stay 1v1 on your point if he can’t win fast, or chasing ppl everywhere…but since playerbase is awful atm, and matchmaking too, chance you can troll scrubs on far 24\7 is actually pretty high. Ofc i would never go far alone with shatter mesmer vs ppl i know but if other team is composed by uknowns i usually always give it a try…i can still disengage if they eventually start using their brain, but that’s a pretty rare case xD

Well, I don’t like the changes either, but there are a lot of premade teams now that farm pugs like it’s a COF p1 speed run and they seem to be enjoying it. I can only hope anet isn’t trying to cater to people like them, but with how farmy the rest of the game is, it wouldn’t surprise me any. :/

Can’t be longer than 60 seconds. If you can’t log back in, in that time that is your kitten computer/ ISP. Not going to make it 3 minutes just to ensure everyone gets back in. Already at 60 seconds you are pushing the verge of loosing the match because of YOU. If enemy team realizes one of u left…it is an instant push for a 3 cap. Easily done in 60 seconds in a 5v4. If that happens, they will be 50-100 points further ahead by the time you ever get back. 45-60 seconds, somewhere in there; no less, no more.

Server errors while trying to relog while isp and everything else (Like ts stream and so on) is fine it’s not your pc

I would be happy with a leaderboard not rewarding ppl for losing and that’s all, and since most top players\teams only play during night prime times most of them are nowhere to be seen in this “top” ladder while, on the other end, looks pretty crowded by scrubs who just keep playing all day no matter the result

You should show those scrubs how scubby they are and scrub those scrubs right of that scrub lis and take the #1 scrub spot.

Already met many of them…but if you play 5 matches\day and they play 20 you can rek them every single time you face each other but they will always be over you, it’s just plain simple maths

Clearly thief due to his ability of constantly outnumbering fights / beeing able to fast decap open points.

If youre not good with thief then go for Cele Ele/Engi since theyre the strongest classes overall and have high potential of winning 1v1’s along with great aoe dmg/grp support.

Bad thief is probably the last thing you want in your team, too bad i still see thieves so crap that they actually manage to lose vs mesmers, i really dunno how but they do, i swear…also had 2 thieves 1 s\d 1 d\p going far vs one shatter mesmer (So you just think by yourself “Ok we’re gonna get far”) and you actually see both of them getting stomped by that random shatter mesmer…then just for the lulz you ask the d\p in teamchat if he was running panic strike at least…and the answer was “Panic strike is for noobs” …while losing 2v1 vs a shatter mesmer apparently is not..

Our pvp playerbase always amazes me

They’re not gonna do it…for the same reason they removed pvp ranks from scoreboard: because ppl were flaming nabs and kids started qqing “I’m bad but i don’t want other ppl to call me bad, please anet don’t show other ppl that i totally suck” and stuff like that..you know in any other competitive game like dota, cs, lol and so on, nabs are flamed pretty much 24\7 but looks like we must all go carebear mode here for some reason

Happens really ofter on courtyard…when ppl go down on top of the stairs on mid map body is there but you can only stomp if you go under the stairs…many times you can’t even dps him from point blank cause you get los, maybe if you kill him mid air while he’s jumping down or something his body ends up on top but he’s actually at the bottom…i dunno but it’s really annoying

I think the matchmaking algorithm values MMR much more than classes. Because of the new daily system (today’s being getting a win with Mesmers/Warriors), there are a lot more people playing those classes. I can understand why the matchmaking system is allowing this to happen. xD

I didn’t even know there was a daily something (I don’t give a single kitten to pve crap) but it’s good to know…so you can just que up with hardcounters then. Let’s wait for engi’s day and everyone going necro lel

Engi is for sure the best class to go solo que with.

They go crazy 1v1, very effective in teamfights, can bunker points, can solo bosses, push bunkers off nodes and decap, get people into downed state off node and eliminate them from game by letting them bleed out.

Necro is most likely the worst class to carry with if you ask me. I mean, this one guy who is well known for playing necro, he went elementalist as solo que instead of playing his well known necro build. That alone goes to show how necros are bad at carrying.

Just thinking about the last part, I don’t know of anyone that mains a necro that swaps to a different class in games, unlike warriors, engineers, ele’s and thieves. I don’t recall ranger main’ers changing either. Like Euratien I’m pretty sure he never swaps out of ranger.

But ele’s like ZOOSEYBOY, Egggs, H man I’m pretty sure he switches, and Karmy.

Ranger and Necro too easy to carry thus no reason to switch. As for guardian, well they just guardians, I don’t see Stunningstyles playing a different profession.

If you have to swap your profession out, means they aint good at carrying, thus reason for swapping.

Most time when you lose to an engineer, its not because they easy to carry, its because that person playing the engineer is good. If it was easy to play an engineer than everybody would do it. I do have to say, that there condi cleanse needs some toning down. Hate seeing engineers act like ele’s splashing that water and condi cleansing like crazy, tone that kittener down.

And whats funny is that most people who complain about Engis are Mesmers. Shows how garbage the majority of the Mesmer mains are in reality.

Engi takes A LOT more skill than Mesmer yet they refuse to understand that Engi requires skill shots to land, have really bad stun breaks, and is unable to fight back when CC’d.

In fact Engi is probably one of the hardest classes much like Thief.

Granted that Engi is the more rewarding class for when you are good at the game, it just doesn’t make sense that people don’t understand why Engi is hard unless it’s maybe turrets which isn’t even a viable build in 5s anyways.

It’s actually medium skill cap. It’s not hard to get a shout warrior to be cleansing condis for you.

It’s also not hard to use null field or spam evade frames while baiting out people’s evade because of the fact that you can attack while evading 24/7 and call it skill.

I don’t get why people think Mesmer is hard. IF you wanted HARD and high skill cap then play warrior without 30 defense glass cannon great sword. Or play THIEF in general against people with half a brain.

Hell even that shout build that Tarcis is using right now is harder than Mesmer just because of the fact that it’s easy to chain CC that to death. Chain CC a mesmer though? Nope spam invulnerability, dodges, and shatter randomly. Add condi cleanse to that? One of the most braindead classes in the game.

I guarantee that these “Mesmers mains” are bad at every other class that takes real effort and is not simply about spamming cheesy mechanics.

I like the way it gives points to players who perform better than expected. And gives less points to people who win because their opponents are less experienced. Like having brackets. Or like getting no XP for killing easy, gray mobs in PvE.

Nah you actually get points also when loosing most of times…you just need to play, you can go up even loosing every single game…just need a bunch of points and your +1 is almost always granted

(That’s why when we go full premade we always try to snowball asap in order to keep other team under 100 pnts, ppl who lose shouldn’t get points…no matter what, tricap as fast as possible and spawncamp…hoping to discourage farmers at least, since anet doesn’t really give any kittens we’re doing that our way)

Always used to let losing team members to all get some points in order to get rewards (Since with 0 pnts you get nothing) but they just made us going full gank now or ppl are gonna start farming just aiming to get some pnts and their +1 at the end..no mercy now…not anymore

Average decent celestial ele or engi, good (And i mean really GOOD) thief or mesmer for higher levels…but since thief and mesmer are probably the hardest classes to play, and even more at high level i’ll suggest to stick to some meta celestial bs keeping 2 ppl on far forever while you hope for your team doing something while 4v3
