Purity of purpose!

Yea let’s have a cast time for doing pitiful damage that doesn’t scale and doesn’t do anything else besides resetting cooldowns and setting off something as specific as final salvo….

So the purpose is to not bother.

The broken "run away" warrior roamer

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

As a rifle engi, (toolkit, nades, rocket boots) I find fighting warriors really frustrating.

Before HoT powercreep, I used to have no problem getting in close with a warrior and trading hits. Now, I have to kite like my life depends on it and pray they never get within 300 range or so.

  • If they get close to me and manage to get a taunt combo off, I lose. That instantly takes me from full health to below 25%. They’re faster than me and have stability, so I can’t cc them or escape.
  • If they land any one of their stuns, I lose. Rocket boots isn’t a stun-break.
  • If I land any of my cc’s, they just break stun and continue fighting.
  • They have stability and resistance for a good portion of the fight, so I can’t use my cc’s. Overcharged Shot, Net shot, Magnet
  • They have more sustain – They regen health faster than I can deal damage, considering I have to spend a lot of time kiting and maintaining distance.

If at any time I make one mistake (fail to dodge a stun, be too close and get hit by the unblockable undodgeable taunt, use Overcharged Shot when war has stab, Net shot when they have resistance) I lose the fight right there.

If I do everything right and kite perfectly for 2 minutes while still dealing more damage than their regen, .. they just run away until their stances recharge again, and I can’t catch them because they’re faster than me.

That’s not a problem with the warrior as much as other issues. Namely, Engi rifle being in a horrific spot because it hasn’t kept up with the power creep, and I’m impressed you actually made it to work at all. If we’re taking about base classes, then they’re also in a really bad spot now. And before anyone says that “all classes have bad weaponsets”, they should probably note how many weapons engineers can use period.

It seems more reasonable that your argument would be for a reevaluation of Engi rifle and rocket boots. The later is so unreliable with a miserable aftercast and Anet’s way of “buffing” it is beyond pathetic. But that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

WvW roaming build question

ArchonWing.9480

Well, I also suppose as numbers increase, shield tends to be better for the group protection and especially well when you have more healing power because of pure of heart so that’s always possible too. There’s also some value in being able to knock people offf.

As for the condi removal, I put more value in being able to remove more conditions at once as opposed to over time. It’s very likely they’ll be able to proc my hunter’s fortification pretty much by accident, and can clear up to 3. And if they don’t remove my shield, that’s not a bad thing either.

For some reason I somehow don’t put a premium on protection. Maybe it’s because too many people run condi kitten, I gear too defensively, or maybe I really should take another look at it— granted I have trouble focusing (pun intended) on these things. There’s also a good point with the projectile hate. I do use shield on a roaming build sometimes, but usually with focus on the other end too excluding the odd occasion I want to be a resbot in a small party.

WvW roaming build question

in Guardian

ArchonWing.9480

Symbolic by nature is more of a bunker build. I’m not too fond of mace, but some people swear by it so I might as well bring it up. Mace does have the greatest synergy simply because the symbol already heals, so stacking it writ of persistance makes it even better sustain with the extra large symbol making it easier for you to be in it. You also get to take invigorated bulwark and that’s nice because alone none of the Honor adept traits are that great without mace. You get another block/cc that yet again can help with condi clear. It basically turns you into quite a troll build. I would take it over sword and not scepter though, since double melee is not fun and sometimes people can just walk away from you and guardians are already sort of slowpokes.

As a result, sometimes I stick a torch into the build instead of shield, not because it’s that great, but almost nobody expects a sudden zealot’s fire to the face. Sometimes that and smite condition (that thing is actually really good for damage) point blank can take down some squishier opponents.

Here;s some interesting discussion over it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Dragonhunter-fights-back-agnst-cheese-builds/first Given how triggered others got just by seeing the build, I think is a great indicator of its success.

Focus >>>> Shield especially in cases where you can only take 1. Focus blocks + hunter’s fortification too good.

Sword and Mace are probably better for symbolic because those symbols are really good. But you could get a GS or hammer swap to work, though it’d be better for the more general meditation build.

GS is for the mobility which means quite a bit in WvW and pull. The symbol isn’t bad. Hammer is good for the immobo and troll banishing/ring of warding. However, it’s highly unlikely anyone’s going to let you whack them with your hammer so that symbol will be unreliable.

Either weapon requires good setup because anyone can see these things coming from a mile away. So you generally pull them out after your enemy has wasted some dodges to deal with the other stuff. Oftentimes people will let their guard down and feel a bit smug after evading your spear of justice— this is the best time to send them into a panic.

I like EOTS. Zero cast time skills have their own value.

It’s not too hard to use. Typically if you get stunned in a big fight, someone else is stunned too if you’re following anyone with any degree of consistency. Let’s say you got stuck in a static field. It’s very likely it’s also caught whoever else is next to you. You don’t need to know who exactly is around you. So you hit it and can continue, maybe dodge.

And while stability is provided by guardians most of the time, it’s still a good backup in case kitten happens or gets corrupted or w/e.

The superspeed is obviously more useful as it allows you to pursue enemies while in combat as well as just being able to get out of the way of any things that would smash you in the next 2 seconds.

Ranger/Druid Not part of Current Meta

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I think blindly following a “meta” just because other people say so as a self-imposed authority is a dumb thing. I also think that the current game design is dumb and causes exclusion. I think that blaming people for not going by whatever you were trying to plan is also dumb and generally a form of projection. I don’t like to comment on the way people want to play usually and don’t think kicking from squads is a great idea. And finally, I think the average skill level isn’t that high thanks to the game’s tendency to favor numbers so honestly you could get away with whatever you’re doing if you practice enough. It’s a game, have fun, etc, etc. But that doesn’t change certain matters.

I can’t really buy the “haven’t met a really good druid” question. It would seem to me that it would have shown in the meta since good players tend to force the meta in their direction. That just seems to be a case of proving a negative, which isn’t possible. It’d be fine if people were provide evidence in that regards but I can’t really say I’ve seen anything beyond theorycrafting.

There’s also the possibility that the player is carrying the class, not the other way around. So any of the “fight me bro” things isn’t really going to show much. I know of a druid player who is very impressive and is one of the best players I’ve ever seen and while he can certainly hold his own in fights of any kind, even he admits there’s certain limitations in ZvZ much to my disappointment but that’s just how it is. And here we have posters here that I have read their posts in the ranger subforum posting here and I am aware that they are incredibly knowledgeable about the class as well since I’ve learned quite a few things from them. It’s in my best interest that every class is fun to play and has roles everywhere but we’re not there yet.

In that case, I don’t have much argument for or against, but as an unknown, there’s no way to make that assumption for people.

One of the things I feel that people are getting triggered about is that somehow all of this means that if you’re a druid, you’re a bad player. I’m sure there’s a lot of parrots that do believe that, and there’s where most of the rage happens but when sensible people talk, it doesn’t really mean that at all. Not running a meta class doesn’t mean anything about your own personal skill level in and of itself. But your performance is ultimately limited by the tool you are using.

What is true though is that in most cases, it’s that baddies will be baddies and you’re 99.9% better off telling them to get on a Rev or something because they’ll be more effective and have a higher floor. At worst, they’ll just die but at least they won’t do massive damage when they unload off into a reflect. So as for those organized runs that are taking random people, that’s simply as much risk you could take.

It’s entirely possible that you are the one special snowflake that will kill anyone on any class on any build. But as a stranger, why would you expect people to know that? You need to earn that respect before people give you that benefit of the doubt.

I mean look at scrappers. I think I can do pretty well with them in ZvZ and they even have their own metabattle page on zergs. And as for the aforementioned “Druid”, I’ve pulled off some nice performances with them too when I’m running around on them and zerg merged because I’m smart enough not to shoot into reflects. But…. it’s hard for me to conceive of where these could outclass GREN in. Hell, when even warriors are becoming a marginalized choice when they are capable of bringing so much, what chance do the rest have in this push meta?

Poll to remove Daily Achivement Cap?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

So I didn’t know about this cap or about the one on Agent of Entropy until reading this thread, since I’d gone on hiatus back when it first announced. I’m nowhere near capped on the first and close to capped on the second, for the sake of transparency.

Having found out now about this, my reaction is that the caps should be removed. To me that seems like it’s just obviously a bad business decision: ANet has created a system of internal reward in the game that’s particularly Pavlovian: you do certain things, you get a reward and a little bell rings to reinforce it, and you come back again and again for that stimulation. Remove the reward and the bell will eventually become meaningless, and the motivation to return for the stimulation drops off. This is basic behavioral science.

Having the achievements on the daily and repeatable things like Agent of Entropy gives players that Pavlovian motivation to continue to play, at minimal or only contingent effect on the economy. Taking that away is bad for business. This seems like a duh to me.

So are we really comparing players to Pavlovian beasts that are easily manipulated? While that might be the case in many scenarios, it would seem to be only a duh if said business had zero respect for humanity.

That comes across as too cynical even for me.

Maybe walking next to them with a Rev makes for easy credit?

Flamethrower feasible in any aspect of WvW?

ArchonWing.9480

I think it’s more trouble than it’s worth.

It can be good in condi builds for the burst via toolbelt. There’s little point in taking juggernaut, because you’d kitten your burning by the lack of incendiary powder anyways.

In zergs, FT is a poor idea because your autoattack is weak and subject to retaliation— and juggernaut requires you to camp FT, which sorta means you have periods of not being able to do anything. All you really have is the 2,3, and 5 skills. Also, you’d have to take firearms which is fairly mediocre in large scale fights and you miss out on either inventions/alchemy/scrapper which makes survival take a hit. Plus any condi you do probably won’t matter due to the large amount of cleanse/resistance out there.

It’s manageable but at the same time, you probably aren’t contributing that much compared to others. Maybe: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASnUUB1ahFpCuoCEqil7ii+2b9aX8g6hQEsBjwAA-TFiFABIp8IhHAA66AA4CAUlSQjUiRo6Pqv/QAAEADdoDdoDdoJAIG-w

ArchonWing.9480

I’d want even a lower cap, but steadily increasing the cap over time isn’t a terrible idea. I personally think that having such a disproportionate amount of it devoted to a few activities just trivializes any sense of accomplishment that is left. So you have a lot of AP? You did a lot of dailies. Whatever. That’s nothing special, and stop considering yourself as such.

Nonsense about catching up to other people doesn’t matter to me. To me, it’s about good game design. And having more than half of a certain metric to be heavily weighted to a class of achievements that really isn’t that hard doesn’t make much sense to me.

I think either the permanent achievements should be more valuable or if they really want to give out more progression, to actually add more permanent achievements. But right now, I do dailies for their rewards, and probably will continue to do them after the cap anyways.

Server Pride

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

What a false dichotomy!

If the server is the neighborhood, then the guild is the family. They’re arbitrary distinctions in the end anyways. Both kinds of things can have social connections, but you know some people’s ideas of “family” can be different, and honestly it’s all arbitrary to me. Some people care about their guild, but others just associate themselves with the server they play on. Did anyone forget you can join multiple guilds? And there’s also a ton of solo contributors that just don’t work under a guild structure or really any kind of structure? Blobbies tend to call it pugs or roamers that they have to content with queue space for. I just like to call them “unincorporated players”

Some people would ask, “well, what if your guild transferred!?” I would most certainly follow them. But then I’d also follow them away from this game too, so what? Doesn’t mean I don’t value my connections over here, even if the same people would follow me. It’s just simply a nice thing to go to a VOIP room with the same few people and regulars that are loosely connected to me and it’s different from interacting with guildies.

From my view, I’ve noticed a lot of people will do stuff like throw down ton of siege and all that defending jazz and I don’t see many possible reasons unless they genuinely like to PPT or their guild likes to PPT just for the kitten of it which is entirely possible but in 2016 I find that even sillier than any concept of server loyalty.

Finally, I’d also say that two of the linked servers that were linked to us are now host servers and a lot of them strongly identified as their respective server even when they were linked with us, I think there’s gotta be something. Or they just didn’t want to be listed as “Stormbluff Isle [x]” as a motivation. I could understand that too. But hey, something mattered.

Even if you could reclaim the cost in 1 year, it still wouldn’t be worth it due to opportunity cost. You could have taken the 200g and invested in various materials and probably make more profit much faster. And then use the profit to make even more profit.

[Community] Newer/Low Rank Players

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Rank means nothing. I’ve met players that weren’t even rank 50 that were incredibly skilled and players that were higher than 5k that were terrible.

Ya I have this in t3/4 once in a while. It’s wierd coming across a no-rank and end up fighting for your life and then turning around and bug crunching platinums 1vX.

It’s often someone’s alt, or a really bored PvP’er.

And yea, rank means very little; outside of PvE open world, WvW is one of the easiest places to get carried by other players. A player that has done something as simple as mastering the interface would already have a significant advantage over others, and that can just be from general game experience— and you don’t need to spend time farming wxp to learn how to do that. I mean you have “veterans” clicking on skills and unable to ground target. And for some reason many players still have not understood that, why yes, standing there when someone’s trying to kill you is a bad thing.

I know players that have been generally pvp focused when they play games and they may have paltry stats like rank 200 with 1000 AP, but rest assured they’re much better than your average player because they learn so much faster due to experience. So naturally I always laugh when someone’s rattling off their AP or some other useless metric. Who cares how many hours you’ve played when half of it is behind a cannon and the other half is pressing 1?

That being said, I think it’s fairly obvious judging by someone’s movements to see what they’re up to. Obviously if they’re coming with you with full confidence and able to dodge your attacks, they’re an unusual target. Regardless, I mostly understand OP’s sentiment. If you’re out to get satisfying fights or trying to test a build. then naturally some targets aren’t going to be a good use of your time. I generally don’t finish off players in a 1v1 unless they’re attacking an objective mainly because of the sheer rarity of players that will actually go for such a fight (I don’t count those “try to burst and run” people). or they’re part of a gank group

I see you don’t grasp the concept of supply and demand……

Not at all. It’s more pointing out that recipes like that are in no way prestigious and still require Mystic Coins. Those trays of pies come in quite handy on a weekly basis for my guild during guild rushes. It tickles me that single recipe is more expensive than more useful recipes for feasts. If I had the Mystic Coins to spare, I’d be more than happy to stick up a recipe myself for half the price and see how long it takes to sell. Sadly I need them for Mystic weapons and the like. Again, the coins used in creating those recipes could and imo should be substituted for something else.

https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/item/12587-Tray-of-Mango-Pies

So without the recipe and just buying the trays off the TP will suffer you the indignity of about 5s paid more as opposed to being able to make it through the forge.

Even if you got the recipes at 15g, and that means the seller is selling it at a horrific loss excluding coins, it would take you 300 trays just to break even. And this is exactly why I never went for the recipes even when coins were cheap.

And this is just through buy orders. Sure, you can get the materials for cheaper using buy orders too, but rarely are you going to see a large disparity between buy and sell you will with feasts than with materials. In this case, you will usually be able to get mango pie trays with 9s-10s buy orders while it’s very hard to get -33% off the materials. In practice the margins are razor thin for food, and thus the main people that would benefit from cheaper recipes are those really focused speculators that really know their stuff for the TP, so it’s not like I’ll have much sympathy that they’re having trouble anyways.

You’ll probably need a more expensive tray to really make any semblance of a difference.

So let’s post some legit examples of feasts people actually use that are somewhat costly. But in the end though, I think it’s a huge fuss to save pennies.

Bank and Bag space

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

ArchonWing.9480

Post a picture of your inventory so people can help.

The first pic is my ranger’s inventory. It’s one of my characters with the least space and most clutter as I haven’t tried organizing it in years. You can add about 10-15 spaces for salvage kits and mining tools as I don’t need them anymore. This would amount to about 35-40 free spaces assuming 18-20 slot bags.

The second pic is my Revenant’s inventory. Being relatively newly made, I don’t have any alternate equipment sets so the inventory space is minimal.

But in general, salvage, salvage, and salvage even more. Also, I use invisible bags for stuff I want to stay put and not get accidentally vendored.

Also don’t open chests or bags until you are done for the day.

Of course, as for the gem store (just convert gold to gems over time)

  • Copper Salvage kit
  • Extra Bag Slot (Going from 100 to 120 is a pretty good boost, from 120 to 140 less so. I don’t think it’s needed especially since this upgrade is per character, skip if you have many characters. )
  • Shared Inventory Slot (if you play a few characters, skip if you have only 1-2)
  • Bank Tab for hoarding purposes; honestly just sell most of it until you can afford the rest.
  • Watchwork Mining Pick

In roughly that order.

Also note that quite a few spaces are taken up by siege blueprints, so if you don’t bother with WvW (and it’s likely someone else will place siege anyways), these spaces are effectively free anyways.

You get mystic coins for logging in; it’s not like leather where you have to farm and be dependent on RNG. Thus getting whatever amount seems inevitable to me. Yea, timegates are lame I guess but how many of those things do you really need? To me they’re just an extra 15 gold every month.

I mean in the span of 3 months, if you did nothing but dailies, you would take in 180 gold, 105 laurels, 60 coins, and a choice between more clovers and laurels. Oh, and I suppose this inevitably benefits newer players more who aren’t ready for legendary as they can stockpile more gold.

It would seem the real issue is the RNG behind things such as mystic clovers.

The thing is you can reliably farm Mystic Clovers through Pvp and WvW without having to involve RNG or Mystic Coins.

You certainly can, and I have like 100 or so Mystic Clovers from reward tracks that I’m considering just vendoring.

But I do understand some people don’t like WvW or PvP so I decided to leave that out.
I like to pretend the issue is at least a problem for the sake of discussion. I was also wondering what the coins were for, for the most part.

Though, what say you, if reward tracks gave mystic coins? :p

Right back at you, you can farm leather. Easy, but easy. You cant farm coins. You get a fix supply every months. Not cuts, no extras, 60 coins. There are a LOT of recipes that cost way more than 60 coins. In fact, the mystic clovers are really cheap compared to the average MC inclusive recipe.

Farming leather might be easy I guess, but it still takes time. Logging in and doing dailies is significantly less work

It’s the same thing to me though. I don’t farm for a specific thing. I just sell whatever and then use the gold to buy whatever I need. A few hundred gold for a skin doesn’t feel like a big deal so I’m trying to grasp what the coins are so desperately needed for farming.

Day 1. Opinions

  • Most important things are: Gain XP to 80, gain gold, and explore the map in roughly that order. Don’t focus on crafting until you’re established
  • While it’s profitable to sell things on the TP, it is very tedious. It’s generally more efficient to salvage low level requipment for crafting materials and sell them in bulk. Also a fast way of compacting your bags. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting_material
  • https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Options
I like Free Camera because the camera adjusting itself made me dizzy. Disable “Melee attack assist” because it means you can’t pass through enemies and that sucks. Enable “show all target names” as many things require you to interact with an object, and so you don’t have to squint.
  • Exploring the maps and doing events (marked by orange symbols or circles on the map) gives you the most XP. Killing enemies not nearly as much, so you generally want to explore the map and find more events. Ideally, you’d explore more of the map each time you play.
  • Hearts (marked as a heart on the map) can be a good source of XP too, espeically if there’s an event happening.
  • Equipment. You want to upgrade your gear overtime, but do not go overkill— before 80 you shouldn’t spend more than 10s on anything. Typically (green) masterwork gear is very overpriced at low-mid levels, so (blue) fine gear works. Later on, past 65, green gear starts to decline in value which means you can start using them.

The most important thing to keep up to date is your weapon (every 5-10 levels). Chest/Leg pieces can be a good boost, so replace them every 10 levels. Jewelery is good but often expensive, so get at your own discretion. The other pieces are not important. so replace them whenever. Typically I would aim for gear that has +power and either precision or vitality depending on your needs.

Level 70’ish will probably be your last gearing before you go for end gear at level 80.

  • Food. There is a ton of food on the Trading Post that is very cheap. In fact, only a few copper which is literally less than vendor junk. Food is an item that works by double clicking on it— it gives you a buff for 30 minutes. Only one food can be active at a time; using another food just overwrites the previous. All food gives you a small XP boost for killing enemies which isn’t a big deal but it’s so cheap that there’s little reason to pass it up.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Food

Suggested Food:
Level 15-30
Roasted Meaty Sandwich — 2c (gives power)
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Roasted_Meaty_Sandwich

Level 30-40 (can skip— you can keep using the old food because chances are these levels will be fast, will probably only need a dozen of these. )
Chocolate Chip Cookie — 10c (precision, healing)
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chocolate_Chip_Cookie
OR
Cherry Cookie —3c (healing, vitality)-- not as good but cheaper
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cherry_Cookie

Level 40-55
Cherry Pie — 3c (Precision, life steal)
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cherry_Pie

55-75
Blackberry Pie -2c (precision, life steal)
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blackberry_Pie

75+
Mixed Berry Pie- 8c (precision, life steal)
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mixed_Berry_Pie -It’s almost as good as the level 80 version.

  • Utilities. Utilities work just like food but can be used alongside food. Low level utility items are overpriced and a waste for low level content. In the past I used them to get experience boosts but they’re too inflated in price now and I don’t suggest them into you get to level 80 zones and they’re still optional.

Hardened Sharpening Stone -2s 81c
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hardened_Sharpening_Stone

Quality Maintenance Oil — 2s
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Quality_Maintenance_Oil

  • Buy Orders. If you’re willing to wait, when you buy something on the TP, you can always put in a bid instead of buying something instantly. Sometimes you’ll be able to get an item for cheaper; but only do that for things in bulk. Waiting for new equipment is generally pointless as it may already be obsolete by the time you get it. Same applies to sell orders.

Oh yea, and welcome to Guild Wars 2.

You can but relying on those drops is a bad idea because you have no control over when it drops. I would say from experience maybe an ascended weapon/armor every 200 levels or so. Useless jewelry being more common. But if you have bad luck it could just be never.

I would definitely say craft the weapons. Weapons make a bigger difference and is cheaper to craft. Waiting for armor to drop is fine as it’s so expensive anyways and the stat boost is smaller compared to the rest.

DH hardcounter DD: Fact or Fiction?

in Guardian

ArchonWing.9480

I would think it’s an uphill fight for the DD; typically if the DH struggles then they messed up. Though obviously it’s possible for a better player to win and a good DD can stalemate. Given the large variance in ability, I suppose it’s sometimes really hard to tell whether it’s the player or the class.

Main things are that it’s typically dangerous to fight the DH up close due to traps and hunter’s determination being a threat allowing them to turn your CC against you, with hunter’s fortification being a real annoyance. And there’s of course the god forsaken pull which must be anticipated. In a vacuum none of these things are hard to deal with, but nor will they only give you one thing to work with at a time.

It’s especially pronounced at the skill floor. If both don’t know what they’re doing, it tends to end up extremely ugly for the DD. (I have experience on both sides!) But at least they can’t abuse reveal like some of the uglier cases.

Yea catas are probably not the best thing to manually forge because even basic catas are so expensive regardless of badge or tp. Buying regular siege with badges is probably bad because of Badges of Tribute conversion.

But what if you buy those cheap flame ram or ballista blueprints off the tp and change them to superior ones?

I already took that as my example but have been called wrong, so I guess Cerby just wants to believe that this QoL change is all bad and a complete hoax.

ETA: Because the siege you buy off the TP just produces itself, no one has got to do anything for it, right? (at some points there might be too many proofs of heroics, yes).

I imagine a lot of people just monetize their heroics by selling superior siege, but yes people have to make it to sell it though the prices are still the prices.

It really depends on what you want.

Spirit shard conversion, much like karma, is tedious regardless of method used. And yes there’s some ways to get some really good value out of them but the methods can be very tedious and boring. So being able to do something faster while getting less value of it can be a good thing. Individually crafting them I just saw as a waste of time, but being about to bulk produce them on a dime has to be useful somewhere. It’s like the provisioner— a lot of the food is cheaper to get off the TP but maybe you just don’t want to fiddle around and get some food immediately.

And you definitely want to use buy orders on the TP and wait a bit so you get the lowest prices possible but a lot of people don’t want to wait like that. But then some will argue that you shouldn’t just outbid the highest buyer, but put it lower because you’ll inevitably get it anyways. I don’t do that due to a lack of patience, and this can go on forever.

It’s a good precedent nonetheless since convenience at a premium has always been part of this game.

Though for the most part I think Cerby is right. https://www.gw2shinies.com/alchemy means that it’s almost always more efficient to use your spirit shards to make something else and then use the profits to buy the siege and the same applies to getting badges of tribute and selling as such. However, if you use a TON of siege, it’s entirely possible that you don’t have enough provisioner tokens and need siege on the fly, without having the time to liquidate all your investments before all your server’s stuff gets lost. Then I suppose you could break out the mystic forge conduit and make more siege.

So it’s very possible that people aren’t going to need a tag to make posts that summarizes various sentiments, it’s fairly obvious if they can recognize various posters who aren’t full of agendas even at a glance.

ArchonWing.9480

Not really a roamer myself and often just go for soft targets cough not listing those so anyone’s that’s actually competent will probably look good to me.

Probably Mag has the most good roamers though my observations may be outdated. One really weird thing is that they have the highest concentration of solo’ers that will message you to actually have a conversation and not send hate mail. I know it’s weird huh. I mean I’ve gotten hate mail for posting on this forum. They also hold these little dueling groups complete with bouncers that I’ve always found amusing.

FA/NSP also have their fair share of good players that will willingly 1vX without some runaway build.

Another way to spot the quality of the roamers is how many zerglings/defenders they can pull off. Usually you have like a dozen of people that are like “git this guy!” mainly because this person has killed them all seperately and they want to chase he/she off the map, lol. Then again, I’m on SBI where you have people calling for backup against a solo roamer attacking a camp. And sometimes the camp has 3 minutes of RI.

Though I guess with linkings it’s hard to tell who is what.

Even worse then that. Say someone buys GW2 now. How do they get to BF? Buy the story? Buy (or otherwise obtain) a TP to friend?

Yes. But it’s not as bad as it would have been last season, since it seems like the new zones and the new LS2 episodes are more closely related on a 1 to 1 basis.

I think that is worse. It’d be like if you couldn’t access SW/DTop if you didn’t unlock the LS. And honestly, that just reduces the people who can readily access a zone and I feel that’s a bad thing.

Balance Changes Upcoming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

So are we still trying to do half measures instead of just separating the modes instead of screwing over one game mode to fix problems in another? And end up doing nothing as a result? If revs and mesmer boon share is too good in WvW, then just nerf it in WvW. No?

Why even bother?

Because having a split is a major reason why we see imbalance.

sPvP is already balanced differently than WvW and PvE because the sheer amount of stats and stat diversity available are simply less than PvE and WvW. What doesn’t work in one format works wonderfully in another.

There doesn’t need to be a split. ANet would just be overwhelmed with things to adjust (as if they aren’t already), especially as more elite specs are released. They need to actually normalize the formats better. PvE balance seriously doesn’t matter so long as the content can be completed. All this complaining about the PvE meta doesn’t mean crap. You will find a group doing literally anything playing on literally anything. You might not be optimal, but if you beat the content on a sub-optimal build, it doesn’t actually matter. There will always be a mathematically-superior meta in PvE and it will never change until professions are nerfed or buffed, because encounters don’t change and can be broken down into literal formulas. So long as can group can complete the content, it shouldn’t matter. PvP areas, not so much, which is where the precedent of good design really matters.

And that’s the other major reason why we see vast differences between formats: the actual skills and mechanics themselves are often terribly-designed or implemented. ANet has a staggering number of reworks to do, because some things like certain weapons, traits, etc., will never actually be good regardless what they do, until totally scrapped and re-worked. If balance is split up and everything “seems” good, it just makes it a much more difficult knot to try and untangle unless the skills and mechanics themselves change between formats. I don’t know about you, but I’d like to rest assured that my weapons skills are the same when moving between PvE/sPvP/WvW. That’s just not possible if they take the split balance approach without just adding objectively more work; if they’re going to re-design something, doing so in ways that won’t break any given format is easier than trying to manage re-designing the same mechanic into three different ones between the formats, which may propagate more balance work and demand the same process over and over.

The absolute best thing they could possibly do right now is put PvE stat-selection options/values (aside from food) into sPvP, remove Durability and Perplexity runes altogether, and then work on re-designing terribly-designed mechanics to function between formats.

We see vast differences between formats, because well, the formats are vastly diffrent to begin with. Normalizing all of them doesn’t really make any sense to me, and I don’t take laziness as an excuse either.

Factually speaking, we have just seen game modes affected negatively by changes intended for other game modes. Trying to find a way to do it while tweaking it so it doesn’t have such effects seems like even more work if you ask me. There are also good examples of the split such as the differences between confusion and retaliation which makes things playable to begin with.

PvE balance does matter; and it’s not just about tweaking the meta. Sure, some options will always be the best, but it doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be more options. Obviously the balance isn’t going to be with the same intent as it is in wvw or pvp but with the bulk of the player base in pve, doing things that impact the content via balancing should be somewhat carefully considered.

Yes, this is true. If you find the content offensive, not because you don’t like any roleplaying, but because a certain segment of roleplaying is crossing the line into sexually-related content, abusive chat, truly “offensive” content in the standard definition of the word, then use the in-game report system, please, and the team will review.

How do we use the in game report system for /me?

You’d have to run around the area to find where the player is, then right-click their character and select the report option. For explicit/offensive chat, verbal abuse should be the correct category.

For something that appears in the chat screen, there’s no need to find the player. You simply right click the name in the chat window, and report.

You can’t right-click a name via emote though, but you could temporarily add that character name to your friends/block list, then right-click and report from there. Or just see if they said something earlier in /say

It’s very difficult to do so if the character has any exotic characters or something like IIIIIIIIIlllllIIIIIIIII. In any case, it’s evident that this is a weakness that trolls are exploiting. Also if you zone in, then you might not even catch a lot of their crap before.

On a side note, I do suggest people without an Airship Pass to go to Rata Sum! :p The RP’ing here seems much more mild, or at least I’ve never seen anything bad and a lot of the stuff is conveniently placed, much better than the nonsense that is LA at least.
