Aha, someone was offering help with Spelunker almost immediately after this thread was made. With 2 left, I will probably focus on Lore Untangler slowly and also read the posts above carefully to snag the last one. Of course, since I imagine there will be more masteries added in the future that it wouldn’t hurt to try some more.

Thanks everyone!

Update: 2 left!

So I just need 3 more points to max everything out. The goal of this is just wanting Spirit Shard but I wanted ideas on how to sneak out some Mastery Points I could do to get them. Id rather avoid the adventures because at this point it’s a hopeless cause (you can go on about how easy they are but I’ve really had enough of them. >.>)

4 possible points from Story Mastery
I have done 14/18 out of Act 1, not very close on the other ones at all
(Missing: Conservation of Resources, Dug In, My Friends, the Smiths, Stick the Landing. and Sylvari Solidarity— wait why are there 5 available?)

1 Point from Out of the Shadows— Grief Counseling

5 Points from Verdant Brink
Shooting Gallery (Silver/Gold)
Bugs in the Branches, Flying Circus, Tendril Torchers (Gold)
I really don’t like any of these especially when they’re locked at night, getting silver was already a pain. Haven’t really tried for Flying Circus. I hear that Shooting Gallery was made easier.

6 points Auric Basin
A Fungus Among Us, Sanctum Scramble (Silver/Gold)
The floor is lava, Fallen masks (gold)
These are even worse, watched videos, still hopeless

6 points fromTangled Depths
Beetle Feast, Haywire Punch-o-matic, Scrap Rifle Field Test (Gold)
Always come up a bit short for these
Chak Crusher (This is the one boss it seems nobody ever does. I’ve used a tag to lure people to the others but this is just ignored.)
Lore Untangler (Currently 9/20. Guides on this seem incomplete)
Master Mushroom Spelunker (Okay, so I heard it was a Jumping Puzzle and didn’t even try. Maybe?

I didn’t include any raid ones (I got 2 from that), but that’s an unlikely possibility to get anymore

Still wondering if I should get a Royal Terrace Pass. I hear it lacks the activity NPC that other ones have but that’s not a big deal.

I’m looking at it because I figure I could get easy access to the mystic forge NPC because I don’t want to go to Lion’s Arch or WvW for it. The mystic forge conduit has proved lacking because a lot of the stuff requires you to go buy the crystals and wine and crap.

The close crafting stations are nice too, but Rata Sum seems good enough as well.

My one gripe atm is that DR’s home instance is utterly terrible at node placement. I could use the gate to go to Rata Sum though.

The Gift of Battle track has particularly bad rewards, and that’s been complained about a bit which is why I hate it being randomly selected. The dungeon tracks are significantly better when you can salvage exotics though yes it’s still not as good as pve.

The tomes of knowledge are mainly so PvP and WvW folks can level alts, but then again they probably do come in excessive numbers and don’t justify the track times.

While the tracks could be buffed since progress is rather slow, the main thing is that the tracks are mainly meant to help those who actively play the game mode and not necessarily those who want to farm it. Beating up on fixed, predictable encounters is always going to be far easy to optimize to farm.

Mystic Coins...

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Within the next six months, during a living story event or holiday, they’ll introduce a way to get Mystic Coins.

They already did, with those ley energy events once a day.

Yea I know, but that was limited so that the effect was only temporary. Still that short term effect was pretty dramatic.

Still made a good amount in the meantime; now just waiting for something substantial.

I thought the exercise was great evidence that people are willing to pay a huge premium for getting mystic coins now:

  • The instant that news of the events dropping coins popped, the price plummeted.
  • As soon as people realized it was account bound to one/day, the price increased back to what it had been.

That shows that sellers aren’t very committed to the current prices; it’s the buyers who are willing to pay extra.

Accordingly, it would be my guess that ANet isn’t going to add substantial new sinks. The might add some more 1/day events to see what happens again.

It’s pretty amusing how mere news affects things so much. It’s very exploitable.

But yea, since it is a luxury item, these things tend to be very noticeable. Newer players will most likely just see a source of income.

major runes having to be vendored?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Just vendor them.

Trying to squeeze whatever puny value they may have off a RNG gamble while working through a tedious interface is not my style and I have a mystic forge conduit. It’s the equivalent of going out with the purpose of finding change on the ground and then people reminisce of the time they found a $20 bill.

\The only time I would forge them is if my inventory were that full but if you don’t own the conduit, you’d have to make a trip to a inconvenient mystic forge and that too me, is a complete waste of time which defeats the purpose of clearing space. You’d be better off just TP’ing them for a loss almost.

If you want to gamble, promote mats or something. There’s also a few promotions that aren’t gambles as well. Way better use of your time.

Let’s put it this way. If you vendor 10,000 major runes for 1s each, you’d get 100g. Let’s say you get lucky a few times and get double the value per rune for 200 gold. Then imagine the time you wasted forging 10,000 runes and selling the results. Congrats! You can afford an extra piece of ascended armor. Almost. In the meantime, you will have salvaged over 10000 rares which would on average net you around 3000 gold.

I think it is pretty generous too, because what are you even forging to? How many exotic runes are actually worth anything anymore? Even strength runes are 3.6 gold now…

Is that worth 100 gold, where it isn’t even guaranteed? I’d rather take the guaranteed 100 gold.

This is also why Karma forging, while incredibly cost effective, isn’t very time effective.

NOTE: Now, I’m quite sure there’s someone out there that’s managed to corner a super niche market in some major runes and probably was able to eek a profit out by mass buying tons of these things, however, you’ll have to decide if it’s worth your time figuring it out.

Gw2 player burnout, PvE gold Grind

Again, I do use cheaper food myself at times, but for the hardcore players there is definitely food that doesn’t have a lower level counterpart that may be considered significantly BIS for certain purposes to the point where alternatives really don’t pack the same purpose.

While it’s true in a zerg optimized food isn’t absolutely needed, it also becomes a bigger deal in smaller scale encounters. So in these cases one might spend 2g an hour on consumables and 20 hours a week would be 40g. Of course, dailies give 14 gold a week, and if one is able to make 50s an hour from reward tracks that would already cover 24g… meaning it’s only needed to grind 16g a week to break even. In any case, it’s unnecessary to grind for that much gold anyways especially considering daily rewards also provide income. All in all, that’s 3 hours a day actively playing in WvW plus time spent pve grinding and no real reason write a novel about the later part.

I honestly don’t think it’s a problem with the game.

Gw2 player burnout, PvE gold Grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

I’m not sure what’s the point here. You decided to devote your time to a tedious and unenjoyable activity every single day. What else would have happened? Your account doesn’t delete itself if you don’t get the gold. You say you make 250g a week. If you only do this 5/7 days, your rate would drop to 178g/week, but honestly 72g isn’t worth your soul.

And spending 40g a week on food isn’t really too bad. Pure daily gold is already 14 so that covers 1/3 the cost and surely whatever you do in the time should net 26 gold. And while I’ll agree level 60-70 food is usually not a big diffrence from most level 80 food, there are foods that don’t really have a lower level counterpart, eg Mussels Gnashblade,

Typically I’m cheap. So for casual runs I do Saffron Bread or Sage Salad (Whatever the +8% while moving damage food is though I now just use the provisioner to get it. ). So that’s about 6-7 silver and then I run the potent superior sharpening stone because it lasts 1 hour— that’s actually more important than the stat boost to me. (20s) So I’d spend about ~33s per hour. If I play about 20 hours a week, that is about 7g not even with the best consumables. And then there’s siege…

Anyhow, I’m sure if someone was more hardcore 40g isn’t a big deal. Of course, even if I were to spend like that, I would still have no compunction to grind. Honestly unless you’re constantly making legendaries, gold is everywhere; don’t fret if you miss out on a few silvers here and there.

Just takes some good planning. I don’t even think I’d even have to hit the chef station for a long while and I’m sure I don’t even make 1/4 the gold OP does.

Mystic Coins...

I think they’ll definitely tackle it as Anet dislikes nails that stick out. Hell, I’ll tell you what will probably happen.

Within the next six months, during a living story event or holiday, they’ll introduce a way to get Mystic Coins. This might be through the story itself or the events. I would guess it’ll be in RNG containers because that’s what lures people in. Many people will farm these things in an effort to get them and the coins will probably drop to a fourth of what they are now because then people will panic once they see the price drops. Approximately 3/4 of the way, I will buy a huge stack because the coins have most likely dropped to their lowest point, and approximately one month after they end, they’ll return to a bit lower than their original price at which point they’ll probably normalize to where they are now but that’ll take a long time. This is when I would sell them back.

At this point I’ll be selling them for a huge profit and we’ll be back to where we started besides the fact that all these TP transactions will have lifted gold from the economy. This has happened before with other items, and I am sure it’ll happen again, even if I’m wrong with the coins.

For a small preview of this, take a look at June 28-29. And note the rewards were time gated during that particular event. https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/item/19976-Mystic-Coin

If, tomorrow, I tell everyone that events will spill out some extra linen and elder wood per event, nobody panics. Because it’s all part of the plan. But if I say the events drop one little mystic coin each, well then, everyone loses their minds!

I sort of regret doing the dungeon tracks. The rewards are neat no doubt and very profitable but having to pick out of a list can get very tiresome. Not sure what can be done.

  • Step 1 : allow dungeon boxes to stack
  • Step 2 : apply the select stats system to dungeon boxes content (no need to even change the final choices). It’ll reduce the list to a third.

That would be a nice beginning !

Amazing suggestion. Thanks.

It’s a result of the mastery system.

Basically you progress to make the game easier. When you come in with no masteries, VB is a lot harder, but if you go back to VB with maxed masteries, say, do map compleition on an alt, it becomes a literal cakewalk.

Also you don’t need poison mastery at all. Just look at where you land. And I find the AB hero points harder.

Even with Masteries I still find VB more difficult to navigate than AB.

AB has a bunch of smokescales, bristlebacks, and rolling devils as such blocking key paths. It also has annoying HPs like Balthazar though I suppose you don’t need to beat it to get it.

VB doesn’t have much of any of those threats. The worst of VB is bascially the frog thief HP which got nerfed and the vampire beast one mainly because there’s a chance most people can’t even get up there to help. I guess the entire area of north of Faren’s Flyer really sucks.

I don’t know. I usually don’t get encumbered anymore ever since they introduced mass salvage, though this is because I like to open things as soon as possible.

It’d be nice if the reward track stuff went into its own dedicated box and we could withdraw at our leisure. Make it be limited by the end of the reward track.

Though I’m more worried about the boxes that give you t7 mats or Obs shards. Yeesh. And of course boxes in boxes….

Bloodstone Fen is a great map.

ArchonWing.9480

Yea, it’s not as quality as the main HoT maps but as an addon via Living Story, I found it a nice piece of gameplay. It reminds me of how concepts were expanded on when Dry Top and Silverwastes were added.

The map itself feels very HOT’ish but without a number of the annoyances. The local map currency is actaully naturally acquired. The rubies kinda suck though. Also, who knew having something as simple as a ley-line loop to be amusing? The map design is pretty simplistic and straightforward, but the few things it does use are pretty effective. That glowing red sky and distortions really do make for some atmosphere.

Anyhow, I hope to look forward to what’s in store in the future.

Anyhow, to everyone, I’d like to point out the bloodstone fen reward tracks gives quite a bit of blood rubies that let you purchase ascended trinkets including marauders and also zealots. Unfortunately, the caveat is that you will need to farm some unbound magic (not that bad) and unlock the reward track by doing part of the story (that really sucked because it was very dialogue heavy— bring a friend or two) but you only have to do that once. The blood rubies are the bottleneck and would have normally really sucked but the reward track will definitely be the choice for any WvW player.

The other thing to watch out is that Anet despite making infusions general forced these bloodstone trinkets to be “unique” meaning you can’t have two bloodstone rings. You can have a ring and an amulet though and I’m happy with making them with zealot stats on my ele. There’s also a backpiece but it’s rather grindy.

Anyhow, better than raiding for sure.

Leveling 400-500 Armor Crafting

in Players Helping Players

Typically it’s best if you were to make a set of gear you’d use anyways; maybe for a new build or new character. That’s how I usually did it. http://gw2crafts.net/ is very useful.

Also, the cost for crafting to 500 is peanuts compared to actually crafting ascended armor. If you’re having trouble with leveling up crafting, then I would recommend reconsidering pursuing this until you have more gold and instead farm some more materials. We are talking thousands of gold here. If the idea of 10g for an insignia troubles you, then well…

This build is obviously by no means the be all end all.. but… it’s what I use very successfully a lot of the time. For a ranger I believe I do very well. Yes I get killed by all kinds if they are decent players. I’m an old fart and my reaction time isn’t what it used to be, otherwise I think this little pewpew would be even better. Colour vision is poor too so I can’t see the queues that other people can see when being marked etc, but do my best :P

All in all I continue to love my little pewpew… but I do indulge my Guardian, Ele, Rev, when the mood hits and the team needs it.

I should note that the stats I posted at the top of this note do include food, utilities, and stacks… with different skills being hit the crit goes over 100% and I’ve seen power as much as 3500 at times if I took time to look while I was fighting.. which I do now and then out of interest..

MM, not that I am a fan of exuberance, but your build has base vitality outside of the rune set. Plus going overkill on crit can be bad if you get fury from somewhere. That seems like a pretty big waste of the set. I’d suggest marauders.

It’d look something like this: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQNBjODbkRFKZxGWwiF4axyegB/Wzr/VmBWAr3tc7CAntSceYA-T1CBQBaRpnEeAAKU9nNcEAi2+D5R3AFuAAA4AIgFlBnRJIDOIBBAQAc0je0je0j2Qv5Qv5QvZpA0TZE-w

[I didn’t put marauder trinkets because they are hard to get]

The other thing is that I think it doesn’t make much sense to put bloodlust on your main weaponset since you can just build up stacks on swap outside of difficult battles. It would make more sense to maximize the damage on the main weapon.

I love organized and semi-organized large scale battles, especially when things go completely sideways and kitten happens and chaos and all kinds of shenanigans ensue and at the end of it its the players and team wide ability to adapt and change on the fly that ends up winning an engagement.

Life is all about the shenanigans. Everything else is just on the path to death.

I’m really glad you’re having fun, OP. Given the state of the game it’s nice people can still enjoy it. But honestly, it was not the best weeks to post this.

Hope you keep enjoying these matchups we have now.

“- or if it’s as badly imbalanced as people claim it is”

This past re-set there were a few A-Net people running around on DH+E-Bay. After about an hour or so in we were ticking less than 30. The only thing we had was Our Garrison in APBL and a few camps scattered across the other maps. The only reason we held onto Garri is because the SBI groups failed to work together. (even though it was usually SBI and a SF group at the same time)

sadly that’s why we (sbi) never really go anywhere meaningful or do anything important in matchups.
we’re sort of like the sith empire, amazing potential if we decided to work together, and have some very strong guilds and players, but put us together and it ends up being like a power grab, with nothing happening but weaker servers than us getting beaten into utter submission.

It’s gotten better. though. Better than the days of 3 groups of 20 trying to glory hog and wiping separately vs 25, lol

RIP build diversity.

It’ll only get worse because content seems to be balanced around elites. Base classes thrive in zergs, but……

Honestly, here’s the other thing about it… Joining a commander’s squad has been in the game since launch, but no one ever really joined because it wasn’t necessary. In a lot of ways it still isn’t necessary. Why are players getting upset if they are not in a squad? Squads are for group comps and party boon sharing priority, something that guilds have been asking for.

That very much is true. If for example, you are away from the melee train, there’s no way to share boons with much and it hardly matters. I guess they can tell where you are and how much supply you have?

Granted, there’s also many groups that you can get to know and they will be more likely to accommodate to your needs when they get to know you better. I would imagine that people are more prone to let someone run their special snowflake build if they know who’s doing it as opposed to some random guy that’s like “put me into the healing squad”

Rev’s ate the W

That’s what I feared. I imagine the resistance (condi management) and perma fury would push warriors out but I guess bannerbotting is still a thing? Though I hear some people don’t even do that.

See, the original statement was saying it wasn’t a trap build. It said nothing else lol. The rest of the stuff involving cheese is just a tangent.

But let’s humor the point.

The build takes every available Trap trait and uses traps. If you cannot see that, there is no hope. We can call it a Medi-Trapper, Trapper-Medi build or Meditation-Trap, mmm-K. Doesn’t matter still CHEESE.

You can keep parsing the words till you think you are right but my point stands, uses multiple traps and trap traits which makes it CHEESE, glorious CHEESE. Some other portions of the build simply pile on the cheese.

Yah, but we weren’t even talking about that point.

And, yes it takes every available trap trait. Both of them. And one of them is taken by default because the other traits suck and is often taken by people that don’t have traps on their bar.

Anyhow, I think putting stuff in all caps definitely makes it right and infallible, so there we go.

I honestly think my way of arguing is cheesier than the build, but YMMV. I think I really need to be more considerate of possibly triggering material.

Running two of a thing doesn’t necessarily define the build. That’s like calling a necro that runs flesh golem and flesh wurm a minionmancer. Or a ele that runs ether renewal and lightnig flash a cantrip ele.

I get you don’t want to be wrong but come on. The build runs two active trap skills and two trap traits one of which is a passive trap. Could it be more “trapper”? Sure but it is running enough traps and trap traits along with Durability to be called a cheese build. Add on the passive healing and DR food… yeah total cheese.

See, the original statement was saying it wasn’t a trap build. It said nothing else lol. The rest of the stuff involving cheese is just a tangent.

But let’s humor the point.

Objectively speaking, the build has 3 meditations. I can technically just end this here but that’s no fun. So it’s more of a meditation build with traps. Most of the sustain is centered around taking the Monk’s focus tree and is more essential to the build itself. Purification, for example, is run generally due to the lack of better options and not because it wants to be a trap DH. It has the shortest cooldown when traited and triggers Smiter’s boon which is integral to meditation builds.

On the other hand, the build I posted is centered around traps despite not having that many because the rest are purely for utility, and has basically no sustain about anything else, mostly around abusing traps and the trapper runes. It is literally a “teleport on enemy and hope for the best” braindead build that works on people that don’t know anything and gets countered by people that do.

That would be the very example of a cheesy trapper DH build reliant on passive play.

Helps to understand the class one is talking about, I think. My point is that it’s really hard to consider OP’s build cheese when the biggest brag thus far is stalemating people.

why they allow rangers in wvw anyway ?
nobody like them
even rangers hate eachother

To kill thieves.

Pet swap for quickness unto RP+Bb F2 is glorious.

Well, that was nice. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Anyone who mains ranger in wvw and considers themselves “good” at zerging, should try playing a real wvw class (GREN) and see what they have been missing. If you are good on a ranger, you’ll probably be great on an ele or necro.

Out of curiosity, what happened to the W?

[Replace a trap with “retreat” if too slow, swap is for w/e you need, probably sw/f, mace/f or gs if you don’t like the idea of stuff that fights back.]

Gw2skills hasn’t updated but the virtues GM skill also causes Virtue of justice to burn every 3rd attack. Add a fast hitting weapon and…

Reh pretty much has the point nailed down; it’s very much related to my post above.

It’s very easy to act all high and mighty when you’re behind the winning team, but those are the same out the door the moment when it’s not as such. Though I’ve noted the rudest of the rude tend to be baddies that are so excited that they finally got to kill someone even if it’s 10:1

Personally, I’ve not even played most days for this matchup at all and when I am, I’m really some silly build.

Naturally. That was one of SBI’s most pathetic moments, though it’s not really the same people as today. The server was heavily stacked in anticipation of it going into silver league and dominating most of the matchups and thus people were expecting a blowout against anything but FA which was poised to win.

I mean most of that tournament was boring. We blobbed the lower servers until there was nothing left to karma train. (Naturally this is okay if you’re on the right end) So come into a match where it looked like the outcome was predetermined could have been better than the snorefest that would have ensued…

You’d expect people to rise to the challenge, but instead there was just tons of whining and fingers pointed and not soon after the bandwagon fell apart. Well, some didn’t, mostly the folks that didn’t stack on the server hoping for 100 more tourney tickets (Hey, ascended jewelry was hard to get!)

To this day there are people that get triggered by Yak’s Bend for that reason, if there weren’t already enough reasons. But in the end, they turned the tables on a situation where they would have lost normally. And that’s all history really remembers.

But yea, deliberate 2v1s are a very different story.
