It’s good for the far future too.

It is fairly clearly stated
WvW is designed to accommodate players that would not normally participate in PvP. For instance, the high player limit means that a new player can get involved without immediately feeling pressured to contribute. In addition, objectives are available for a variety of group sizes, so players don’t need to be members of dedicated guilds in order to be productive.
Also, anonymous naming as well makes it a bit more inviting to pve’rs. Being able to come and leave as you choose also matches the fairly casual nature of Gw2, and to some PvE would be too boring anyways. So this is an extension, and possibly an endgame to some.
The way I see it, WvW was mostly meant to be the bridge to esports PvP. They wanted PvErs to be exposed to player vs player combat but in a more familiar and less stringent environment. In addition in the past, WvW performance also influenced PvE as an additional lure along with stuff like map completion. Of course, PvP didn’t live up to the hype and the game became centered around PvE, leaving WvW sort of just hanging there. And WvW at a certain point being too popular for its own good, perhaps even overshadowing esports in the eyes of some, it might have led to some degree of resentment by certain people in charge and overall not really knowing or understanding what to do with what was left.
It would seem to me that this is a pve centric game with WvW catching quite the peripheral fanbase that is unique enough to not fit into Arenanet’s paradigm of how their player base would be (pve/pvp). This is illustrated in the infamous statements where some thought we were definitely into pvde. A lot of the rest of the game is alright, but it would not have been enough to keep me around.

It’s really funny, because if someone wanted a free port to a vista or needed to be led to a waypoint or HP or do an event, I would help them without hesitation if I am free, and I imagine a lot of people will. I don’t subscribe to the “I suffered for this so you must too” philosophy. But I won’t lend anyone that’s not a close friend a single copper for nothing. I remember chastising a friend over it once for giving some random beggar some gold, but in reality it wasn’t that much gold, and nor was it mine either to really say anything about. It’s just something I’m against.
It’s funny because a lot of the above things above do yield material rewards which indirectly does give them coin.
Honestly, if you want help, there’s a lot of ways to go about it. Begging for gold is not one of them.

Obsidian Shards for ToK seems fair, since it really won’t affect anything.
If you play hot maps and have too many airship oil/auric dust/ley line sparks, consider making fulgurite with your obsidian shards and make them into jeweled damask patches: Those sell for more than what a elonian square and bolt of damask would sell for together by a bit.

While I understand those people saying that gear / skins should never be made unavailable, there is at least one aspect of this game that depends heavily on the idea of exclusivity: Legendaries. At least some people work so hard for them because they like the idea of having something that others don’t. If Twilight started out easier to get so 50% of players already had it, and then Anet changed the method of getting Twilight to be as difficult as it is now, I bet a lot of players wouldn’t bother trying for it because “its common”.
Notice how this has absolutely nothing to do with what OP is talking about. Effort-based exclusivity is completely different to exclusivity based on being at the right time in the right place.
To be fair, this isn’t as bad as feeling important because you just happened to log in at a certain point of time since I assume it had to be earned, and maybe it was harder?
Nah, you could get them from achievement chests if you were lucky.
Oh, well less of a deal then.
Also when taking into consideration that players that have been playing longer have had access to achievements that will never be seen again, dibs on living story if they were there for free, daily rewards that pretty much reward attendance, and sometimes easy acquisition of things before they get “balanced” I think old players get enough things.
Effort and feats yea. Being at the right place? Meh.

Same…. I guess xD
But that’s nothing unusual. If it’s not EOTM or pvdoor, I don’t gain more than 2-3 levels an hour even on an active day since the bulk of wxp comes from captures. With dailies no longer giving drops or boosts, I expect it to be even slower. I think I’ve earned around 800 ranks since HoT release, going by a post I’ve made around that time. (That means all that work is worth a paltry 250 gold about) So 800 ranks over 9 months would probably be reduced to 600 ranks over 9 months. That means I might reach Diamond in about 5 years. One mitigating factor is that my play time in the midst of the desert borderlands dropped really low though.
Happy grinding I guess.
As for the subject of gold, there’s literally about three things even someone that does 80% WvW could do. 100% WvW’ers that go eww PvE, can still do two. Since the April patch, I’ve done exactly 1 DS meta (and it was terrible), a couple of AB/TD runs, and some random VB. 0 dungeons/fractals, never liked those things. I think 1 raid where I got carried by guildies through the first boss though I’m not really sure when that happened before or after April.
Ironically, with the new changes which allows you to buy HoT things with heroics, I found that my time in pve was redundant because I don’t need those currencies anymore. Maybe I should be salty and demand refunds and stuff; that’s the popular thing to do when things change.

So it’s been months and Enlargement still cancels it? That just makes it such a bad trait.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Marauder is the easiest as it just takes level 400 of the appropriate craft. The recipe can be bought from the crafting vendor.
On the other hand, the other stats require a recipe that can only be bought with map currency in an HoT maps or WvW proof of heroics and a WvW mastery. They also require HoT
However, Crusader and Wanderer ascended also require more materials to make their ascended counterparts. It’s acutally more cost effective to create a ascended armor with non-hot stats, and use the exotic wanderer/crusader insignia in the mystic forge with the armor to transmute the stats.

What exactly don’t you like about the metabattle builds? They’re standard and unfortunately the guardian frontline build really hasn’t changed over the years; not much diversity.
Base guardians tend to be > DH when it comes to frontlining because they have more sustain and support since DH would have to give up Honor, Valor, or Virtues.
In addition Hunter’s Ward has been nerfed, and the general recent buffing of stability has made that and daze traps a lot less relevant.
Exchange any of the gear for soldier (PVT— survival), marauder (PPFV damage + some survival), or berserker (PPF all damage) as needed.
Also, the mussels gnashblade and sharpening stones are expensive and one requires a specific HOT recipe, so sub in something cheaper like Saffron Bread or Poultry Leek soup for more casual runs. However, the expensive stuff allows Stand Your Ground to grant over 10 seconds of stability on a 24 second cooldown, which is really sick.

It certainly had an impact on the gold to gem exchange rate.
It might have, although the sudden deluge of items from the gem store didn’t help. The prices are slowly falling back though.

You should buy ascended rings with pristine fractal relics if possible, if not with laurels. Earrings it’d be best if you could mooch off a guild for them because they are quite expensive with the ectos.
Ascended weapons are a good thing to craft because they provide more of a diffrence than armor does; and armor requires a lot of materials, so that should be prioritized last. I also don’t recommend making armor because the materials for it very expensive.
If you have a free character slot and some tomes of knowledge, try getting to level ~50 and opening champ bags on that character so you can get more mid-level mats that are required for ascended gear.

Now that you get 2g a daily, it always pays for itself and more, and find myself doing them anyways whenever possible.
It’s really not that much and honestly sort of shallow on my end but it feels like it’s more worth the trouble all of a sudden. The other factor I think is the presence of gliding, making getting to most locations in Central Tyria trivial.

for there you have been and there you will long to return.
The problem I see is that the Druid heals are too extreme. When you go Celestial Avatar or use a staff, for example, you lose most of your dps while a Ele only needs 2 seconds to go in out of water and then proceed to constantly dump damage with meteors and whanot. Eles can also share auras all over the place and proceed to heal and cleanse without much sacrifice or any investment in healing power. Eles also don’t have to maintain a resource like Druids have to— just cooldowns.
It also does not help that the gylpyhs are limited by a trait that sprays light fields all over the place. They’re also requiring one to be stationary which isn’t good.
When you’re just focused on healing yourself, losing dps uptime isn’t a big issue in say, a small scale fight. You just wait until you recover and keep fighting— I can run all the way to spawn on a druid with people chasing me and reset the whole fight. But in a big fight, what about your allies? your lack of presence in either damage or healing will be troublesome. Furthermore, blasting water fields tends to be so strong for group sustain that it doesn’t really make sense to have dedicated healers especially when the healing power of the blaster is what determines the heal.
In the end it is very hard to compete against easy water fields, AOE protection spam (40% damage reduction on tempest), high damage of which a good deal is ground targeted and thus cannot be reflected, and high survivability while picking aggressive stats,
The existence of whatever the heck Revs crap out, damage reduction, durability runes, resistance spam, boon share, and the power of the Tempest all with minimal cost unfortunately just has such a stranglehold on frontline sustain that it is hard to carve a niche role for the druid. The only real advantage a ranger can provide is a somewhat longer range for sniping targets and the potential for high self survival— but this is a group fight. All we can do is blame Arenanet for applying the mechanics and balance of pve/pvp, which generally assume a few people fighting in a few small spaces brought out to WvW and act surprised when it doesn’t really work for everyone.
This isn’t to say you couldn’t make a druid work, but the current game is dominated by these things and to be able to compete with this honestly seems more effort than it is worth.
I did give it a shot last week just for fun though. This was my mediocre build: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJAWTnMqA1Ci9CC+rActglZB7JA012aw/zE6C1ZqNn+XnUrHPD-TlCFABr/AAQSZEWKBlSpD77PAwRAQf1fsVHg6aCE4SAIKA/C-w
I could outlive the whole zerg, finish off stragglers, and keep people up, but I just was doubtful that I wouldn’t be contributing more on an ele or something. To be fair, I am rather bad with ranger (if not in general) and people could do better just by playing better or optimizing a build.
Also, I just came to the realization that the radius for a lot of these things is utterly atrocious.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/WvW_Reward_Track
You don’t need a guild. However, you are better off with a guild if they have the WvW reward track boost which will speed things up. You can also purchase Badges of Tribute with badges you find to earn some gold:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Badge_of_Tribute
Hopefully it’ll help you afford more materials for your legendary.
Essentially, you need to open the World vs World screen by pressing b and look at the icons on the left. One of the icons leads you to a reward track and there are various choices. Mouse over the one that says Gift of Battle, and a button that says activate should appear. If you did it right, it should be on top of the screen.
To earn reward track points, you need to earn participation by doing events or killing enemies or guards. Every 5 minutes you are rewarded progress towards your reward track based on that. You get a bunch of intermediate rewards along the way as the bar fills up, and you get the Gift of Battle at the very end.
Doing a couple of events fills up the bar quickly, but it starts decaying after what I believe is 10 minutes. To prevent that from happening, you need to participate in any event or kill an enemy. Going to kill a guard does the job too.
Events include things like capturing enemy objectives or defending your own. Attacted structures will display swords and if you pass by one of your objectives that is under attack, the defend event appears. If you repair any damaged gate or wall, or kill an enemy, you get credit, so just remember to do that.
The most important thing to remember for WvW is supply. It is used to build siege weapons that can destroy gates and walls, and also used to repair them. You can grab supply from a supply depot (but the objective must have supply). In general, it’s better to grab them from supply camps instead of towers or keeps if possible.
However, do note the upgrade level of a objective. It’s marked by stars at the icon on the objective location. 1 star means the first tier level of upgrades, to a max of 3. A tier 3 objective is much tougher to take. You can also click on a objective on the minimap which gives you a lot of information, most importantly, how long it’s been held. Structures held for less than 5 minutes have Righteous Indignation (RI) on the NPC leader of the objective— rendering them invincible and also doing much more damage. So don’t show up before 5 minutes or close to it. RI is marked by an icon and also blue flames surrounding the supervisor.
The importance of supply is also why dolyak caravans (marked as a dolyak symbol on the map) are important as they transport supply to objectives. Killing the enemy dolyaks is a good way to cut the enemy supply and also gives you credit for an event. They are the easiest things to do in WvW, as well as capturing camps which are only guarded by mildly strong NPCs. Towers and Keeps have walls and gates to breach, and thus isn’t as easy unless you have a group.
An intresting thing is that you only have to kill guards to get credit for an objective capture. Thus, the laziest thing you could do is run around killing guards and you may get credit if your team captures the structure later.
The easiest way to do progress your track is to do dailies. Keep an eye on what the dailies are. They give a chest that gives you a potion of reward track.
Because you don’t care much about Player vs Player combat atm, consider bringing a class with high stealth uptime and mobility such as a thief or mesmer. This will enable you to easily do things like Daily Ruin capture, Daily Land Capturer (sentry), or Daily Supply Disruptor (kill dolyak). Personally, I would suggest Mesmer if you see allied zergs running around, because it’s a bit easier to give utility in zerg fights without risking yourself. One thing you want to try is to go into options and map a key to “look behind”. This will help you be a bit more aware of your surroundings.
If you do join a zerg, they may occasionally ask you to join their Voice Comms; typically a third party program like Teamspeak is required. Guide: http://www.multiplaygameservers.com/help/teamspeak3-guide/
It’s fairly easy to set up though. Consider it; most folks don’t care if you stay silent, since listening in already helps a lot. However, note that Arenanet has no control over what gets said on them.
If you wish to spend as little time here as possible, I would suggest sticking around until your dailies are complete, hang around to refresh your reward track, and do a bit more the next day.
You might have to go to Edge of Mists if your server isn’t active when you play. The track gain is less, but it is also easier. While everyone might kill me to do this, use: http://mos.millenium.org/na to check when your server is most active (In general the higher the income is, the better it is)
Cliff Notes
- Do dailies (Veteran Creature Slayer, Ruins Capturer, Land Claimer, Caravan Disruptor are practically free and easy to do on a highly mobile, stealthy class)
- Follow Zergs if possible
- Help capture objectives
- KIll dolyaks and guards
- Use Edge of the Mists if your server isn’t active.
- Find and schedule times to PvDoor
- Pay attention to RI. Do not fight NPCs surrounded by blue flames.
- Using the server’s voice comms will help

They should put the scribing station in a better place too. It gets worse after the hall gets upgraded…
And honestly, I never bought the whole “convenience kills cities” thing since you can go to PvP to access your bank and sell things, but people are still going to the bank and vendor in Lion’s Arch. Also, the guild office for commendations and the Mystic Forge will still be there even if we can craft elsewhere.
It also hasn’t stopped Divinity’s Reach from being lively despite a lot of services being inconveniently placed, a horrifically designed Home Instance, and it’s also harder to reach than LA is
I’d go to Lion’s Arch more though if it was better placed— it was better when it was destroyed. That’s why voting Kiel was a mistake.

I’m hoping we get more of each kind of mastery points, so this becomes less of an issue.
For now, you can list the ones that are available; see if we can help.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Let’s not even talk about WvW.
There’s a reason why there’s no crafting stations in HoT maps or in dungeons/fractals/raids and I’ve never seen requests for them. Can you imagine what it’d be like if people stopped in the middle of a fractal run “BRB need to craft, we’ll be 4% more effective after 15 minutes!”. You’d be booted, and for good reason.
What about people that are in a full map for Dragon’s Stand? Would it be cool if they just went in that crafting? What if I go into these things and halfway through I realized I didn’t bring my best food? I deal with it, and get prepared next time like anyone else who actually cares about using the best stuff. If you actually cared about optimizing the run with overpriced crap like Gnashblade and Bountiful Sharpening Stones, you’d also properly manage your inventory too. As for feasts, well, if I don’t have one, I just summon a trader and buy it right away.
This kind of behavior isn’t acceptable anywhere else. Why would it be acceptable in WvW?
The difference is that wvw has downtimes when there’s nothing to do. When the enemy guild groups stopped raiding and there were enough other scouts or roamers around to keep enemy roamers in check, it was perfectly acceptable to get your crafting done. And yes, that also meant that you were still on the map and would have been able to help if an enemy server decided to rush one of your keeps.
I guess the removal also means that I will no longer find myself accidentally playing a couple of hours of wvw on a Sunday afternoon when my intentions were only to do some quick crafting before preparing a meal – which might be good for me but not that good for my server.
Now I don’t know if you ever have any downtimes in tier 1, but my tier certainly does. It seems to me that the change might be good for T1, but it’s not beneficial for the lower tiers.
Not in Tier 1 actaully. Like I said in a previous post, it’s not really a problem here, but it doesn’t mean the problem doesn’t exist and it doesn’t make sense to change the game based on tier.
To be fair, I can see why having a reason to stay idle for a bit can make one stay longer, though I’m slightly skeptical on crafting taking that much time or at least enough to make a dent in said downtime. What could you be crafting so much on a regular basis?
Personally, when I craft, I tend to buy materials in bulk and then look away from the screen while making threads like: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Could-we-make-crafting-be-instant In the end if I really do want to go for a long crafting session and somehow I think I’ll be needed, I just stay on my server’s teamspeak for a bit more even after I’m done. If they’re not on TS, I sometimes tell people to whisper me if needed.
Anyhow, I think these are also things that a server chat/non-megaservered city could really fix, but whatever. And also consider spending your downtime in the Mystic Forge, even if it contradicts a lot of what I just said… =p

Was there some mass train of WvW crafting stations happening that no one was aware of? Last I checked, the only time folks even checked out the crafting tables was in dire necessity.
While I realize the desire for FPS fail while crafting is hard to resist, I daresay most folks did NOT use the crafting tables just for the hell of it. And yes, having something there to encourage to new players to come hang out and check out WvW is helpful.
How do you know this?
I didn’t think it was a problem but apparently the developers have seen otherwise. It could be not a problem where you play, but maybe it was a problem elsewhere.
Hello everyone,
Many of you have been inquiring as to why we made the decision to remove the crafting stations in WvW. We made this decision because we have been seeing an increase in queue times with world linking. Upon observation we found there have been players taking up space in the maps who are only crafting and not participating with their teams. However, we’ve been listening to your feedback today and we wanted to let you know that we will be adding a banker to each team starting area in EB, Alpine and Desert. Thank you for the continued feedback!

The best way is to farm your tomes via reward track on a level 80 and then just use the tomes on your lowbie.

No. You claimed that people don’t get toxic and complain in forums about that kind of thing in Open World PvE when it’s clearly false.
If people are complaining about hero points which are actual parts of the map and people have legitimate reasons to be at them, then that’s a strong argument for not putting things like crafting stations in places where that might be a problem. You could go like “well, I go to HoT maps and they’re not always full!” but that’s not an argument.
And yes, if I am doing something like gathering or just AFK, I do avoid meta maps. It’s just basic considerate behavior.

Point is— there’s a reason why crafting stations aren’t there!

LFG Auric Basin AFKers and flax nodes. We see that lots of people are doing the meta but we don’t care if they fail or not because death to elitism. Will tag for Hero Point train once we see Octovine decreases in health.

Back when gold was harder to get I understand, but with dailies giving 2 gold every day, please seek out more time efficient ways for your crafting needs.
EDIT: What you really need to campaign for is a better Lion’s Arch setup. As is, if you’re crafting in Lion’s Arch, you’re probably doing it wrong without a portable Black Lion trader.

If scouts complain about not being able to scout while crafting, boohoo, get some friends, get server community guild or something, WvW is a teamgame, I lost plenty of garries cuz I had to go craft ascended gear.
Because leaving the borderlands in order to craft your gear will make your response time better… Logic?
How often do you craft gear? If you’re coming into WvW without gear constantly, I’m not even sure if response time is the issue.
I’m sure I could think of a fringe instance or two where you want this ultimate gear right now but I can’t imagine it happening on such a frequency that makes it relevant.

Not enough people have to forge to be a problem.
There aren’t many reasons to mystic forge all of a sudden beyond siege.

Why are people still so cheap with WP’ing to a crafting area? Do 3 dailies and get 30 WP round trips lol.
Half of my characters are WvW only, and they’re always parked next the appropriate crafting station at the end of the day.
I used to craft in WvW too, but then I realized there’s a lot of better places to do it especially since the trading guy is so far away…

You can buy memories of battle and shards of glory on the tp if you don’t want to do wvw. You can also go to eotm but the track will progress slower. There is also a new guild hall boost to make a reward track progress up to 10% faster. Unlike before where you could simply buy the Gift of Battle without ever really spending any time in WvW, you actually have to now, this is a way of making the legendary process go across gamemodes.
holy crap ty. lol lets see spend 10g on a stack of 250 of them or farm forever for a month or 2 for the same amount. When you can easily get 10g in pve in a few hours or less.
You’re my hero <3
Not sure what’s the problem though. Just spend 10g and save time? A lot of items in this game are better off just bought than explicitly farmed if you want to save time.
There are people that are just getting these things just by a side effect playing wvw, without explicitly farming them and thus prices are low. It doesn’t make any sense to go out of your way to farm them when there’s better stuff to do with your time.
And legendaries were meant to be a tedious grind. So there’s that.

— Central Tyria
- Malchor’s Leap. Every mob is there to annoy you and there’s these really annoying spots. Most of the time the only reason I enter there is to find the way to Cursed Shore.
- Dredgehaunt Cliffs. Singlehandedly made me hate Dredge
- Diessa Plateau. Just feels like filler
- Brisban Wildlands. Meandering with these hills that look like you can climb but you really can’t. The abundance of iron and wood made me hate it less.
—HoT
- Tangled Depths— is like the above but, much, much worse. Especially without masteries.

Personally I use Rata Sum to craft. Lion’s Arch is horrible but honestly why go through all these loading screens when you can just pay a few silver? And do you really have to craft that much? I find it more efficient to just place orders for stuff I need and make it advance instead of crafting it on the fly because you’ll be more disorganized.
Also, I would strongly suggest to stop forging siege save for golems for now. You’re saving 6s as opposed to buying the siege straight off the TP, If we factor in buy orders since you’re spending the time forging them anyways, you’re actually spending a lot of time to lose gold while going through all that trouble to craft them one by one. If you’re going to spend time on the forge, you’re better off using many of the other mystic forge formulas with your spirit shards to make a lot more gold and buy siege off the TP. (Not to mention you could sell those materials and regular siege blueprint anyways)
http://www.gw2shinies.com/alchemy.php Just look at how terrible Superior Siege (except for Omegas, but that’s not even that good) is for the value of the spirit shards. Look at what you could do in less time and for more gold.

Hmmm. Something should be done yes, another payment would be a good idea to get it to 750 or something.

Well, apparently it’s severe enough to register a blip on your radar and screw with population calculations. I didn’t know it was that significant, but facts are facts. In that case, given that you’re giving a bank at spawn I should be okay.
Consider adding a Permanent crafting station as an item as well.
