Latest Balance Patch Killed WvW

in WvW

The balancing is absurd.

PvP changes affect WvW and PvE
PvE changes affect WvW and PvP.

This doesn’t create a problem? Yes, it’s nice that there were a few changes that only affected PvP, but overall this nonsense creates something that doesn’t work at all anywhere.

And sure, WvW can’t be balanced but it doesn’t mean we need to be affected whenever they want to mess up other game modes.

WP costs is pretty sketchy because you don’t get a return trip and you could accomplish something similar just HOTM’ing back to Lion’s Arch. So it’s more about the time saved.

But even assuming 4s a wp trip and 1000 gems being 250 gold (it’s still a bit more.), it would take over 6000 trips which is possible until you realize it’s more like 6000 trips to the relevant facilities that are unique to the instance [forge or crafting]. And of course there comes the opportunity cost during those 6000 trips.

Not that you should really buy gem store items for value. I suppose the Watchwork pick (still one of the worst ideas) was so before Sprockets took a dive or maybe the copper fed salvage kit count, But even for those, the time saved greatly dwarfs the actual gold saved and making any kind of value on these items is a very low priority. The WW pick only has priority just because it’s much better on value than the other infinite mining tools.

Of course, there can be an argument that gem store items shouldn’t be profitable or worth the weight in gold simply because if it something is too effective, then it offers too big of an advantage over people not getting things from the gem store, and thus P2W.

In the end, of course, it comes down to whether you want it or not. If you have too much excess gold in-game, then there really is no downside and gold is honestly everywhere. I bought a Permanent Bank Express (which will certainly never pay for itself) since I didn’t care about legendaries but I wanted to buy something expensive just because. After all, there are no end to skins that don’t provide in game value, and is mostly bought due to personal preference. Personally, I like to wait for sales on upgrades that save my time, but that’s just me. All I’m saying here is that if it did allow me to return to my spot then I would probably give it another look.

Is it really that convenient?

I mean if you go into HOTM you can sell and access their bank and keep where you were. The biggest to advantage to such a thing is that you could craft or mystic forge and come back, but it sends you back to a city anyways….

I’ve only used the temp airship pass about two times when they used to drop back then, and I ended up deleting the rest. I just don’t think they were useful, so I really think being able to stay where you are isn’t that big of an advantage especially when it costs so much to buy.

That’s how I’ve felt about them, as well. Same for the Home Portal Stone. The cost isn’t worth it for me, but many people just like the convenience of it. So, at least someone is enjoying them, I suppose.

Well, to me it’s not just about cost; I suppose as you said some people do feel it’s worth it. I just can’t relate to it. I’ve bought a lot of silly things that will never pay for themselves. Sometimes I guess it’s just the novelty of spending on something different.

The Home Portal Stone and these passes aren’t worth it to me at any price in their current state as indicated by me not using them even when they were “free”. I do however think that their high price does justify bringing space saving and really wouldn’t be a big deal considering the options we already have. As for the fear that cities will be empty, I imagine a lot of people wouldn’t buy them anyways as well as the fact that Lion’s Arch has done a excellent job of driving me away from it on its own.

It might also be nice if it remembered you were there and you could load into there to begin with.

At this point, it feels like the main value of it is having exclusive access to an instance, which I guess is something.

lolololol panic!

Reminds me of when Mystic Coins dropped to 50’ish silver a few weeks ago; there was all these chicken littles and people wanting to SELL SELL SELL. But if you were to just calm down and either do nothing or buy the coins that were being sold you’d be in great shape. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were people that deliberately post these trends to spread even more panic. (Not referring to this thread, but I’ve seen some blatant examples) This is insanely exploitable and no I don’t flip crap. I just find these trends amusing.

Honestly, unless you invested all your wealth in a certain thing (which you really shouldn’t), it’s no big deal. Yea, there’s that time your stack of something became useless but what about when that stack of that thingy rapidly rises in price? Can’t always win them all.

Anyhow, if you want to do ascended gear, I think it would be a good chance atm.

Complaining about spending a few hours getting a mastery to buy cheaper extractors very funny too. Especially after we told all the pvers GOB track only takes 8 hours

Hmm, somehow we went from debunking the extractors as a choice as in, it’d be completely irresponsible to hand most people that recommendation, to something unrelated about the Gift of Battle. Dodge much? Plus you know, they both could be bad design choices.

Though I suppose it is consistent; the game seems to treat a number of choices like they’re viable…. in some obscure context.

Spirit Shards & L80 Ranking

ArchonWing.9480

It’s technically part of Maguuma masteries; points earned in raids can be used in Maguuma masteries, so that is probably how it is.

That being said, I would also like to opt out by having a spirit shard track myself. The well has really run dry for mastery points and I acquired enough to max the 4 lines plus only 1 extra for raids, which I now sorta regret because the new map seems to demand a mastery as well.

I have no intention of really raiding or doing legendary crafting so XP towards them is not worth anything to me. I also have 2781 spirit shards, so if one thinks I’m begging for them, you are sorely mistaken. But given my readings of the forum, I think it’s more of an issue that it’s rubbing into the faces of people who aren’t able to get enough mastery points if it weren’t annoying them enough.

Anyhow, my remaining points aren’t particularly fun, so I didn’t bother especially after doing all the main ones. Hopefully the Bloodstone fen ones aren’t too bad. I need 8 and there’s about 33 available outside of Bloodstone Fen. Doesn’t sound too bad but doing a lot of these actually hurts my head, either something about them or maybe repressed memories.

Heart of Thorns Story (4)
Mastery (all) Story is nice, story achievements, especially buggy and one that requires a forced grouping is no. Also, why did you decide to award the same amulet 3 times?

VB (5)
Bugs in the Branches (Gold) I just don’t like this one
Flying Circus (Gold) Actually I could do this maybe.
Shooting Gallery (silver/gold) EWWWW
Tendril Torchers (Gold) Flamethrower kittenes me off
AB (6)
A Fungus Among Us (Silver/Gold) Honestly never gave it a fair chance, but the controls were attrocious
Fallen Masks (Gold)
Sanctum Scramble (Silver/Gold) Watched videos, still end up falling somewhere near the end.
The Floor is Lava (Gold) Possible.
TD (6)
Beetle Feast (Gold) Annoying
Chak Crusher (Nobody ever does this one!)
Haywire Punch-o-matic (Gold) I really don’t understand why I can’t do this
Master Mushroom Spelunker
Scrap Rifle Field Test (Gold) barely even got silver on this; pretty hopeless
Lore Untangler. Probably try to do that.

Raids
12 Points locked behind raids; got 2 from these from the only raids I did.

tl;dr do bloodstone fen.
I’m not going to list CT masteries because I am hopeless there. I still need to do the legendary line which I never wanted in the first place.

HOW-TO Ring Infusions for WvW

ArchonWing.9480

Since we’re talking about fractals, we could use having Infusion Extractors not blocked behind the Fractal mastery. It prevent all base game players from being able to remove Infusions from their rings without destroying them.

Except we do have, they are the extractors sold in the gem store that removes any upgrade.

The price you pay for getting fractal mastery, which I have to say doesn’t take long and experience for the line can be earned while not actually in a fractal, is cheaper custom made extractors. But you never had to destroy the infusion before, just spend more gems if it was worth taking out.

The gem store extractor being a legit choice in trinkets beyond agony infusions.

[WvW] Zerg DH builds

ArchonWing.9480

With buffs to virtues and DH I was wondering if people were trying out new things in this regards that would provide something different than AH frontline base guardian.

The main thing I see is the traited shield of course. Stab starts at the start of cast now whereas before it was a questionable stun break and if Bulwark is taken, the shield lasts for an awfuly long time.

I was also wondering if Glacial Heart could be a thing since Resolve removes condis by default. But it’s only on yourself. I’m skeptical on Virtuous Solace since it drops a light field.

Of course, the main problems still apply. By taking DH, you lose AH/Strength in Numbers, Protective Reviver/Pure of Voice, or double stab/condi clear/consecration cooldown. Those are all sort of big so I was wondering how people that take DH work around that.

It’s annoying because we are having to deal with vertical progression in a context that doesn’t even involve anywhere but fractals and is so tedious. To be fair, I guess raids have eclipsed fractals and they started to become ded content if the stagnancy didn’t do the job already. You need the proper fractal masteries to buy those things, but yes technically you wouldn’t have to do a fractal. The mastery is the 2nd one which would cost a grand total of 3 mastery points to get to. Not particularly horrific considering I never bothered with the legendary line.

Not if you remove the infusion first. You can do so by buying an infusion extractor device for 24 silver.

Further reading:

Crafting an attuned ring will destroy all upgrades (including Infusions) in the original ring. The Infusions can be safely removed prior to Attunement by using an Infusion Extraction Device; and these Infusions can then be reapplied.

Thanks. So it looks like getting another infusion slot per ring isn’t too difficult and fairly cheap. About 50’ish silver per ring if I were to do the extractor.

Character slot and XP Scroll, huh?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

And yet, magically, newer players are not drowning in tomes like older players are. Not every package has to cater exclusively to veteran players, most of whom already have extra character slots in the first place. This one was clearly aimed at newer players

I’ve been around since the beginning and don’t have any tomes. I stopped playing for a while, since I’ve come back I’ve used up my level 30 scrolls and tomes on alts and could still use more.

I believe the forums represent a minority among players, those who are most deeply invested in the game and tend to run through content more quickly than the average player. But your own experiences are nowhere near that of the average player, what you do in a month many players take a year or more to achieve.

Really depends on your chosen content. WvW and PvP players will have too many tomes from reward tracks. Fractalers will get a few, and Open World PvE’rs won’t get that many beyond login rewards.

So more vertical progression that requires pve? Sounds awful.

Fractals were mostly self contained because building up agony resists only helps in fractals and fractals were meant for the grind and progress crowd. Everyone else wasn’t dragged into it and had no right to complain as a result. I was happy I never had to engage in any of that infusing nonsense. I am disappointed they decided to go this way.

So is this how it’s going to be like? If we’re going for the power creep, fine, it’s all over the place and ultimately I didn’t mind because you can make ascended gear from everywhere in the game but if it’s locked behind raids and fractals, in the hopes of carrot chasing, well, I refuse to be the donkey.

FYI, I don’t mind having certain favored paths. For example, if there was some content that required pve content and something else in wvw that offered the same thing that was 4x as long, I’d still pick WvW, for example. I think it’s fine to have choices like this with bias towards the content you want to push, and a bit more effective than to funnel everyone through a single path— you’re going to get some people who will simply refuse. I think the hero points finally reached a nice balance, for example.

Ultimately, it is the design that completely neglects us. I don’t care if it’s not meta or whatever. Even if they introduced utility infusions that weren’t terrible then I would have just taken the loss because I would have overwritten the infusions anyways. And then add in triple infusion rings and that’s just pretty crappy.

That being said, ignoring if it’s not meta is not a good idea in the context in this game, since say, pve, if you’re not meta you might as well not exist. WvW is a bit better in that regards, but still.

Oh, but cannon blueprints are important. >.<

If you’re willing to put in some fractal time, you can now get rings with up to 3 wvw infusions, 3*2-1 = 5, or +25 additional stats you didn’t have before.

Or a badges or honor / proof of heroics to fractal relic exchange could be added and avoid doing fractals altogether, since you could then buy the items you need to infuse/attune rings instead.

From the OOS AMA by the devs:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4uqx15/out_of_the_shadows_devs_here_ask_us_anything/d5s3q7s

Q: …is there a specific reason the amulet infusion slot has been replaced with the enrichment slot instead of just… well, having two slots? I have to get a bit more AR for 14 characters now, which is quite the hassle, just because the amulet slot is gone. Was it a technical limitation you didn’t get around reasonably or was it simply a choice?

Developer response:

A: It was a systemic limitation.

With the change to infusion slots which let players place any Infusion into any Slot, we couldn’t keep both kinds of amulets.

[it] actually takes fewer +1 Agony Infusions to get 150 AR post-patch. To get 150 AR now, you only need to make 12 +8s and 6 +9s. You don’t need +11s or +10s anymore.

If you currently have a set of +11s and +10s, you can take those to the new vendor in the Mistlock Observatory to break them down into +9s and +8s. Once you’re down breaking them down, you should have enough Infusions to get 150 AR and still have 2 +9s left over.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/4uqx15/out_of_the_shadows_devs_here_ask_us_anything/d5s372q

Q: Is there any way to add a WvW Infusion refunder for laurels since the new infusions slots now allow for any type of infusion, the defensive infusions are pretty useless now.

And the dev response:

A: No plans for that. Those infusions are still functional, even if they’re not meta, and refunding laurels is tricky because those can convert to gold.

Thanks, Illconceived. This answers the question and at the same time makes my heart sink. A systemic (it that even a word?) limitation prevented the developers to implement the desired solution and WvW players were selected to take one for the PvE player base.

Well, they have to protect their precious economy.

Come on people…its one infusion per character you have…
In full ascended gear its 1 out of 14.

Put them in storage until you need them for a new set of ascended trinkets/armor/weapons. Ya know, along side all your other not-so-precious ascended trinkets you have filling a tab, but at least these will stack.

Now past the crying, is it just the utility infusions that can go on them that we currently have? Or is there new things I might find interesting?
Thinking the most obvious current utility is magic find or karma for wvw.

Ahh, let’s all spend 1k+ gold on another set of ascended that we may or may not need to deal with this out of nowhere change.

I’m just finishing up a set of ascended armor; I don’t really have any urge to touch that stuff any time soon.

And all for what? Karma? No thanks. I have 8 million and I assume many people have more since I actively try to get rid of it. Converting that crap to usable currency is such a waste of time it might as well not be done at all unless one wants RSI. All it really serves is for the mystic forge daily.

MF in WvW when it doesn’t work on containers anyways? I guess that spike might turn into a blue. Maybe. That’s the other problem— they didn’t really give us anything interesting to replace it with.

It’s not just the infusions either. I had an amulet that I got solely to swap for fractals (put agony resist) in it. With this, it is completely useless, and now I have to find a blank zerker ring to do the same purpose…. until they screw with it again.

In another story, I also have (had) WvW amulets on each character with wvw infusions to separate them from the utility infusions. Now, I can’t blame them that much because yes, ascended can be swapped around. Of course, having to go swap gear just to play your character every time isn’t exactly I consider acceptable at all.

Whatever, It still sucks. Good for bringing on the guilt trip though.

Dat devourer/basilisk ready to be shared…

Yep, came on because of the nonsense I read; popped the pizza too. But at least it’s not a condi build. Only to find nobody to share with for like 15 minutes. Wait, can you share with guards lol?

I think it’d be fun to do the heal venom too in a big fight.

Oh ok… I never bothered much with that bonus tbh. I use it mostly for the swiftness duration coupled with power and precision.

Well, part of it was that I used it back then for AOE fury and swiftness but it’s not a big deal these days so I’m not sure why that had to be touched. Offensive stats were also good.

And also +30% swift duration vs +20% all boon duration >.>

WvW Enrichments?

It is a an awful change that completely overlooked WvW.

A refund would be nice, though I would also take an actually useful utility infusion.

Like I suggested in the other thread, the xp infusion should boost WxP too, as experience from kills doesn’t even count in WvW, and being a level 80 item it makes little sense for xp from kills anyways.

Chances are I will just put the infusions in other rings/earrings that could be used as alternate stats, but not too happy.

What a completely unnecessary change. 4 mediocre choices with 2 being worthless in WvW.

Make it so that the XP infusion works like the new xp boosters and apply to World Xp and reward track, so it may actually be useful.

Wah. Why the medic gyro hate? Is it because it’s not healing turret?

Passive Elixir S -> Dodge while casting Medic Gyro = TOO STRONK!

Couldn’t we have started with a 1/4 second cast time first? >.>

I am not sure why there would be an immediate need to refine materials per session; it doesn’t really save that much space. I didn’t think WvW gave so many mats. It’d probaly take only a few minutes to refine all the mats I’ve gotten in a week though I do sell quite a bit of them.

Here’s my excess materials that have been collecting for quite a while. How long would it take to refine them? The silk was sorta bad, but I was actually using them for a purpose— ascended armor.

Though it does seem people pay a little more for the ingots and stuff. I didn’t realize they were that lazy. Hmm………….

The bigger question is: Why did SBIHoD and SoSNsP let that stand since reset?! Get out there and take that thing down.

I know its hard to take down a defended YB fortification but this is a perfect opportunity to play the game as its meant to be played. That’s why its WvWvW, 2v1 that sucker. SBIHoD and SoSNsP should both attack it in tandem. Those are some of the most fun fights where all 3 servers are in a keep trying to take it down. I wish that would happen more. And if Anet claiming keeps leads to it then I say, Claim more stuff Anet!

One does not simply walk into YB hills. Its gates are guarded by more than just Superior Arrow Carts.

MM… I don’t think they summon stuff out of thin air. We once had Anet claim Stonemist and also tossed a bunch of guild catas. Upon asking, the person did indeed note that they were paying for all those catas out of their own pockets.

Well, if there are employees playing on a wvw server, I do think it’d actually only be fair if they played in good faith and that would mean contributing to the server’s effort as they saw fit. Otherwise they might be taking up space.

When I play alt accounts on other servers in WvW, I would put forth an effort to assist as needed. It’s sort of a given if you enter the maps.

This kind of behavior should actually be encouraged and it’d definitely be nice if the devs spread across to the different tiers so they can see what’s going on, and how stuff works in practice.

I actually thought it was pretty funny when I saw all that guild siege. I guess they fit right in with YB— this really explains all the siege related polls. We’ve been calling it “Anet keep” and have aimed to take it down.

Look on the good side though. Their tactivators aren’t spawned from thin air…. they actually had to be gained in game so if people start griefing it, I imagine they’d take notice.

ANDDDDD arrow cart prices are rising again…. Right when I’m low on heroics.

camp solo flipping should be harder

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

I think the point is to make flipping the camp take long enough that it is feasible to defend it. Currently, from entry to cap completion, I can solo a camp in ~35s without even being optimized for it. That means that the enemy gets 5 seconds of warning. Tier 1 and Tier 2 add maybe 5-10 seconds and tier 3 maybe has a total of 30s warning.

I would love for people to have to defend their camps to keep them, but they need to be able to reach the camp from some place nearby in time. What I would hope is that the camps take longer to flip but don’t necessarily become harder to flip. Thus, a solo roamer could still take out a tier 3 camp but they couldn’t do it without detection or any real danger.

You don’t need people sitting in camps; just go out along the camp routes (especially yaks), follow the trail if stuff flips and impede enemies that one comes across. The best way to stop someone from taking your camp is to not let them reach the camp.

You don’t even actually have to beat them either. If they like to fight, then you can distract them from taking camps. If they are 100% focused on backcapping and avoiding fights, well maybe they wouldn’t be too good in actual combat. Another good idea is when you backcap yourself, to go backwards in a few minutes. Chances are you’ll find them right there.
