Can WvW get some profession balancing?

Now that they dropped the number of targets you can hit with line effect i say they need to make some of the counter play boons a bit weaker. Stab is in a good places but resistances is not. Resistances needs to only work on dmg condition or have a set number that is removed as ppl apply more conditions a lot like stab works for hard cc.

I don’t see how stab is in a good place, you can lose the 10 stacks of stability of armor of earth in less than 1 second in a blob fight. It reduces the viability of smaller groups and of the lightest classes tremendously in large fights.

Uhh, outside of corrupts/boon rip (which was always possible), you can’t lose 10 stacks of stability in a second.

Only one stack of Stability can be removed every .75 seconds.

Can we be able to hide mastery levels?

“the only people who hide stuff have something to hide”
- hidden man

In any case, AP and Mastery Level tells you less than absolutely nothing about anyone. If you are kicked from a party based on AP or ML, then assume the latter is so stupid you never wanted to be in a party with them, anyway

Pretty much this. If someone is judging a player based on this, they don’t really understand the game themselves and will prolly hold you back.

Wrong, low AP usually reflects bad playing. But it isn’t a must. I don’t care about AP but usually if people have low AP they are significantly worse in dungeon runs than ppl with a couple of thousand AP.

Nah, that poster is right. If you gave me someone with 3000 AP and someone with 6000 AP and the later was putting forth that they should kick anyone with under 5k AP, I would kick the later, because while they both might play badly, the later already proved their ignorance.

While it’s true someone with very low AP is probaly inexperienced, it’s also true that someone that puts a high value on AP doesn’t understand the game either because half of it can come from solely doing dailies while high end content gives very few in comparison.

Anyhow, on the matter at hand, I do think you should be able to hide various things including AP simply for the sake of privacy, not because people are going to be jerks or whatnot but because it should just be a choice.

HoT Hero Points need a severe nerf

HP’s don’t need a nerf… have you ever posted in LFG or just asked in map chat if someone needs a certain HP? I have never had to wait hours… or certainly not days to complete a HP. If you are, you are simply not trying to find a group. Also a lot of areas have HP trains that you can join.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pile_of_Guano

It’s hard enough just getting there, but then you have to fight a group of vampire beasts. I have seen a zerg try and nearly fail.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Balthazar's_Statue

The actual point is a commune but the champion can again destroy whole zergs by simply pouring on AOE fire.

Guano one is horrificaly placed due to the small window of time and I honestly thought that is the worst thing about the HOT maps.

The other one has a pretty bad fight, but as long as someone has stealth, everyone can just commune and leave without fighting,.

Not sure why celestial would be a thing on a tank guardian.

I mean condi damage? Nice 30 extra damage burn tick. Healing power? Nice But you can get it elsewhere. Guardians don’t really have much that scales that well with healing powers beyond dodge heals.

Your job is to be in the enemy’s face, keep them down and on you, while supporting fellow frontliners. Nonsense like tickling them with fire damage or trickling heals when the eles can do a much better job then you will just make you a jack of no trades.

It’s why PVT is the golden standard. Bulk, bulk, smash. No gimmicks. You can take a hit and while your hits aren’t exactly super exciting, they still can pressure the enemy.

Of course, boon duration is very powerful too because more stab uptime is good time, which is why wanderers is a thing. Keeping your fellows alive is just as important as keeping yourself alive. You’re a guardian, not a silly ganker that’s looking to brag about never dying. There’s a reason why you’re in such high demand. It’s because you’re literally a pillar of the zerg. Or check up a bit of commanders if you want a bit more damage. Of course, these boon things require a bit of active play to take full advantage of, so you will have to manage things a bit more carefully.

If you’re feeling edgy, a little marauder or zerker can make you a bit more dangerous than the enemy anticipates. Of course, I would have to take a very good damage boost to exchange survival . Exchanging 5% damage for a 5% drop in survivability isn’t desirable to me even if it sounds fair.

Of course, these things may make you a little less durable, but with experience you can definitely experiment what you can live without.

Primers aren’t meant to be cost effective at all much like most items in the gem store; they’re QoL items for those with too much gold/money on their hands.

Besides the mussels whatever -dmg reduction food, what are you using that’s so expensive that doesn’t have a slightly worse counterpart that’s 1/10 the price? (Oh you meant those writs lol). Scribe costs are stupid. It gives a situational 100 more power at best (on a full glass build with no toughness or vitality) for 20 times the price. Ehh, niche but hardly something that’s better than everything else.

I wouldn’t mind if they made a budget -8% damage, 15% boon duration food though, lol.

So, now that it has happened…how are SoS and SBI enjoying being steamrolled by FA now?

Eh, SoS wouldn’t know because they got punted into t4 as a side effect. Bu hey, anything better than having every tower and even camps loaded with siege.

Just as a reality check, YB barely sieged up anything last week, for the obvious reason that most of the time there was minimal risk of anything getting attacked much less taken. Towards the end of the week, when neither SoS nor SBI seemed interesting in defending (for perfectly sound, logical reasons) there was a point at which Commanders were barely bothering to place offensive siege either because the zergs were just PvDing through the paper gates anyway.

I’m sure we’ll get right back on our arrow carts this week thanks to ANet’s deus ex machina intervention.

Yah, I realized they weren’t sieging that hard for one week! Yes I know everyone fell asleep halfway during the matchup. Grats. But it doesn’t matter since relatively speaking FA is just a better match for t3 atm since YB was running away by this time and YB is holding strong in t2 as well for now. I’m guessing it’s boring for them maybe but what can you do? t3/t4 is screwed and now whatever server gets stuck down here has to whine to get their way back up. Seems fine in the end.

It’s okay though. I’m sure the people wanting variety are going to not log on for the rest of the week anyways.

Why can zerg commanders kick for lack of TS?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

If you get upset at people using swear words, you need to grow a set and get a grip on reality (though I understand if people are dropping the F bomb every second word, that gets tedious).

My 2 cents. I have a 3 year old who sleeps in the room next to the computer room. I usually play when he’s sleeping or almost asleep and it’s mom’s night for the bedtime stories. However, I like to be able to hear when kiddo cries, gets up and starts walking the hallway, etc. so the headphones are not an option. And I’m not about to play most TS chats on my speakers due to the language if wife or kiddo can hear. I got balls – I got ‘em and I’ve put them to good use already so that’s not the answer.

So yeah, different people have different situations. If you’re running a zerg and have a few people not in TS it’s not going to ruin effectiveness under a good comm who pays attention to the map.

p.s. case in point, kiddo just woke up as I typed this. he went back to sleep soon after but yeah, the parents get it

I actually do think that using coarse language is a reason for people not to get in TS, actually and it has nothing to do with developing body parts but more of not wanting to associate with juvenile edgelords that lack manners. If for whatever reason people offend your beliefs, you are definitely free to not have to deal with them and sometimes if I feel the speech is too offensive, I just don’t bother.

It’s fine to say whatever when you’re with your friends or guildies, but if you’re opening a public run, then I think it’d help to watch these things to whatever extent of audience you want. Social awareness and all.

And I cuss a lot myself in-game, on ts, and in real life, and so do a lot of the people I run with. Sometimes the F word is great for emphasis such as when you’re about to go down or when you have 396 supply but both rams are still incomplete. Censorship filters I feel do impede my posting style. And yea, our chat is a bit politically incorrect but that doesn’t mean everyone has to accept that or it makes us especially edgy or grown up. I’m generally more offended by stupidity than words though. =p

Ascended gear/weapon: worth it?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Weapons are good but not essential to have. They’re not too expensive relative to the boost they give so honestly I don’t see why not to get them.

Armor is by and far a luxury item. A single ascended piece can cost almost as much as a weapon but with less benefit.

I’d craft ascended weapons and hope the armor drops in the meantime.

https://gw2efficiency.com/crafting/ascended

NOTE: All the cheap ascended weapons (less than 40g) are collection items so they take a bit of running around and getting masteries to get. If you’re doing loads of HoT content anyways, these may be worth a look.

Fire/Air keep and that DAZE DAZE guy were horrific at HOT launch when stability was crippled because they pretty much crapped on it, but they’re not too bad. I remember trying Juggernaut/FT and it meant nothing.

Now, none of them are too bad though I have a severe disdain for the Airkeep boss but I really don’t like anything concerning that area. Granted, I’ve actually never solo’d a keep before; most of my experience comes from solo/duoing recapping the map or just helping pve daily folk. The towers are pretty manageable although the NET boss can screw you over if you play badly or just don’t have the dps.

It seems like the best amount seems to be 3-5 people which can take down the lord fast and also conveniently set up 2 cats instead of having to repeatedly run back for supply. More than that tends to scale them higher which of course due to strength in numbers makes it much safer but also far more tedious than it should be. Less than that and you might get bored defenders ruining the day.

Why can zerg commanders kick for lack of TS?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

There’s always mute/volume adjust. Granted, if that annoying person is driving I suppose it’s not always possible and I would not follow any group I found that annoying.

I’m really better without TS, even in small groups. Until I’ve found who of the 50 is constantly talking I’ve died 10 times, then the next will think it’s a good idea to talk about pudding with their spouses who aren’t playing, then I’d have to mute the music bot and so on and so on.
Additionally I seem to be lagging for whatever reason so no one understands me anyway.

Well, I see your point too. There are certain times I won’t be on TS because I know I don’t want to communicate with them for whatever reason Also, Every now and then, TS kittens out on me and I have to guess. For many classes this is fine, like guardians are probably going to do the same thing no matter what. And overall, it’s not like zerging is exactly rocket science either. But there are a few things to consider.

One of them is the more exotic movements, such as portal bombing and whatever bizarre maneuvers they’ve worked together with for the last 2 years. In these cases, if you don’t know what’s going on, you could really mess things up.

The other thing to consider is that policies are based off of generalities. AKA, exceptions abound. Certainly, being inflexible isn’t a good thing and there might be legitimate reasons someone can’t use TS. But policies towards random people you don’t know specifically are there for a good reason, unless people are brought evidence to think otherwise. When you bring unknowns into a group, it’s often better to play it safe than not.

You might want to note that you yourself might be an exception. You do a lot of non-zerging so there’s a good chance you know where to go, what to build, and how the flow of a battle is going to happen and not overextend yourself. Basically, you’re not a zergling that needs their hand held all the time. It’s just necessary skills that you have to have in order to stand a chance outside of a zerg. But not everyone is like that. There’s tons of people that don’t have that level of awareness and have to be told 100 times to build a ram because either they’re here to farm a gift of battle or are busy watching porn on a 2nd monitor. Gw2 is a casual game and there’s nothing too wrong with that.

But in the end, it’s certainly within a certain group’s choice to be selective, but it’s also a follower’s choice to be selective. If toxic blob guilds try to blob while kittening people off, they may find themselves in a bad spot when they need help. Of course, I think that groups that don’t bend at all are way too uptight and they could have easily taken precautions to not get into the situation where they have to kick anyone at all (DONT INVITE EVERYONE GEEZ, some people like their small parties) In the end though, I can’t really force my thoughts on anyone.

Like many things, it goes both ways. But most parties refuse to admit it.

ArchonWing.9480

Their squad, their rules. You can be kicked for any reason. They have no obligation to you if you won’t agree to their terms especially if you’re not coordinated with their movements. Why do you need to be in their squad anyways? It’s not like the tag vanishes. The only reasons would be boon share (which you’re not in comms to coordinate), I guess how much supply you have, and broadcast which are great but is redundant if people are in comms.

Also keep in mind that a lot of these things tend to be guild events, so people are going to prefer to spend the time with their guildies. Maybe you should be thankful they’re willing to run the pugs too at all?

OTOH I would urge people that have this sort of policy to either make their squad invite only or not to spam invite to everyone around to make things more upfront and not to cause conflict. So in a way, being placed in a position where you have to kick people for that is actually a fault of your own. It’s pretty annoying to see people pull a pug blob and try to lord over everyone on the map.

Edit: As an aside, I’m at a loss as to any reasons you could have for being unable/unwilling to download, run, and listen on teamspeak short of your parents blocking VoIP programs on your router or something like that.

Personally I hate TS – usually the people with really annoying voices are talking the most and absolutely random stuff while in the midst of a fight.
I do get why commanders want everybody on TS though.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

I usually log off in Rata Sum due to close proximity to the most convenient home instance for mining, vending and also access to crafting. My ranger is located in Black Citadel to access that home instance and maybe to do zone specific vista/miner. As most of my characters just WvW, they are generally very static.

As a side note, there seems to be always people RP’ing in the racial cities, and I find that entertaining though YMMV.

Beyond that, I really only need a nearby vendor to sell things and a Mystic Forge Vendor (have a conduit), so Bloodstone fen with its portal scroll often means I log out there instead and as long as I have someone bothering with the Rata Sum garden I just don’t bother moving that.

I don’t mystic forge enough especially with the extra materials so I usually just visit Lion’s Arch and buy in bulk if I actually need because I have so many spirit shards and now that leveling in Maguuma gives me them, that will be more so. I generally avoid LA like the plague and the only time you will see me log into Lion’s Arch would be WvW reset night or if I crashed.

Please Remove Daily/Monthly AP Cap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

Yea, there’s a content drought and it’s not been that impressive. However, I have to laugh at the people that point out that there’s not enough points to beyond 35k. I mean you can accuse Anet of a lot of things, but I think they can do simple math. It’s simply the prize to a race that hasn’t even started yet. If they fail to provide content that suits it, then yes, it’s on them but there’s much bigger problems here. But supposedly we have an entire living story season 3 to go through.

Personally, I like it when the occasional event happens and there’s a new set of achievements to get. That feels like more of a progression along with the development of the game itself.

And I would support increasing the daily AP cap when more achievements are added to the game too. I just think at the moment, dailies make up such a large chunk that it doesn’t feel worth it to really pursue any of the static ones unless they’re literally right there. For example, why would I spend the time to kill a bunch of enemies with a shield for a measly 11 (1 more than a daily) points? Or buy a race’s cultural armor for 16? 51 points for 250k kills in WvW?

The matter seems worse when it comes to the new ones…

Please Remove Daily/Monthly AP Cap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

If the gameplay has devolved to where 99% of the game is no longer worth playing beyond login and daily rewards, then I think it’s time to find a new game.

I mean, if most of the game doesn’t even matter to you, then there really is no point bothering to cater a reward system to your needs.

Honestly, I don’t see an argument for lifting the cap beyond you wanting more AP.

That’s not what I said. The game does matter but it does so through the rewards.
I’ve sank 4.6k hours into this game. I’ve done everything a few times over. What keeps me coming back is that next “fix” of cosmetic items, skins, cool things.

I don’t really play GW2 for the “gameplay experience” since I know most of that by heart anyway.
Except for WvW and PvP and Raids the game doesn’t really have “interesting gameplay” to keep me going. I play the same old stuff over and over chasing skins.

I mean, if most of the game doesn’t even matter to you, then there really is no point bothering to cater a reward system to your needs.

Yes there is – because regardless of what matters to me keeping me involved, playing and coming back means you’ll keep me spending money on the game AND spending time – both of which benefit the game.
Money goes towards development. My play time goes toward maintaining a numerous and vital community.

Anet has every reason to want to keep me playing.

But you said

If my daily log-in AP and rewards go away – so might my log-ins.

That would suggest that those things by far trump anything else in the game.

As for the rest, I shrug. I’m glad you’ve spent 4.6k hours to this game though and done mostly everything. But really, so what? You want stuff. And you won’t play if you get it. And it can’t be any reward, but one within your narrow band of interest. (tl;dr rewards useless to you doesn’t necessarily mean it should be changed either)

I mean the argument is rather circular, I would think. It could be used to justify anything. What if I like to kill ambients each day? Should they adjust the reward system to cater to my “loyalty” and to keep me logging in? Why can’t I repeat any achievement? If you can infinitely get AP from dailies, I think I should deserve more from repeatedly making ascended armor.

And honestly, I think there’s a case for making various achievements repeatable….

Agreed. I’m surprised at some of the responses here and elsewhere. The argument is basically, “Let others catch up while you get nothing.”

That seems rather one-sided. But let’s go with that. When will ‘everyone’ catch up? When can we then raise the bar as far as the cap?

Except that you still get 2 gold and 3 spirit shards for doing your dailies, among either karma, mats, PvP/WvW reward track potions. You aren’t getting nothing if you have maxed your daily AP. You are still getting quite a lot from them.

Don’t cherry pick. That has nothing to do with this discussion. We’re talking about AP. They can keep all the gold and spirit shards involved. That’s not the point of this thread. Nor the point of progressing your achievement tab.

Your example has nothing to do with what you quoted. Nothing to do with the cap. And nothing to do with this ‘waiting for everyone to catch up’ excuse.

You’re the one cherrypicking here. You claim that the argument is “Let others catch up while you get nothing.”, which is simply not true.

Just because you are not getting AP from the dailies anymore does not mean you are getting nothing from them. You can’t claim that you get nothing from them, as that is cherrypicking and borderline pedantic. Using your arguments, I should be compensated extra for doing more than 3 dailies each day because I’m “getting nothing” for the extra dailies I do.

Dailies reward everyone, you can’t justifiably deny that. And besides, its not like a newer player is going to catch up to the people who have maxed out their AP from dailies anyway, its just not going to happen, even if ANet just maxed out the daily AP for everyone, these players missed out on all of the extremely generous AP from season 1 releases. They are never going to come close to you.

Let’s make this simple. I am AP capped for my daily AP. You are not.

I log in.
You log in.
I get nothing.
You get something.
We both did the same thing – I did it for longer and am still doing it now yet I’m no longer rewarded for it.
Why?

Cause you’ve been successfully conditioned to login and do dailies. You don’t need that food pellet anymore, you just tap that little buzzer to your heart’s content.

I don’t do dailies for the AP, I do them simply to do something. I do them for the 3 shards that I then use to promote mats for profit. I do them for the token karma or reward track bonus. I certainly don’t do them just to have a big number or the fugly weapon and armor skin. I’m surprised when I get a chest cause I’m not playing for the AP total.

The 2 gold now is a nice bonus I wish they started years ago but I tend to give half of that away to friendly mesmers on days when I finally get frustrated by a JP and take the shortcut they offer.

No I haven’t.
I don’t log in because of dailies – I log in because of rewards. You stop givine me rewards and I will stop logging in.

If my daily log-in AP and rewards go away – so might my log-ins.
This is an MMO – i am kept here and still play because of a sense of progression. The less I progress the less I feel inclined to play.

To put it simply – no food pellet – no monkey button press. You might have been conditioned to do dailies “just to do something” but I and a lot of the people I know do them exclusively because of the rewards. Rewards go? I stop.

Do I still do dungeons? Not really – ever since the rewards got nerfed first.
Do I Still do EOTM? Not really – since the rewards got nerfed.
I play for rewards – no rewards? No play.

I certainly don’t do them just to have a big number or the fugly weapon and armor skin.

I agree – the weapons are bad and armor is ugly but the radiant back piece is the best looking back piece in this game.

I’m surprised when I get a chest cause I’m not playing for the AP total.

Congratulations – they’ve almost conditioned you to play for free.

The 2 gold now is a nice bonus I wish they started years ago but I tend to give half of that away to friendly mesmers on days when I finally get frustrated by a JP and take the shortcut they offer.

When they started this I started doing dailies on my second account. More reward = more play.

… when you purposely do not tick poorly placed siege or normal siege so it will despawn and replace it with superiors

No that’s being a snob, lol.

Superior is preferred, but never discourage anyone from building. There are too few of us. Big deal, regular siege. Build a superior beside it and refresh both.

Take the time to teach if you can do it gently and patiently.

Which brings me to:

A good scout is endlessly patient and willing to teach anyone who’s interested.

Well, I guess sometimes people do throw down whatever siege when they’re in a hurry though there’s generally very little reason to build regular arrow carts. I suppose if the target is full of supply, building a crappy ballista or something as bait (so they don’t instantly torch all your expensive stuff) isn’t a bad idea though not everyone agrees!

Although I suppose if a structure isn’t likely to be defended well, cheaper siege does make sense. Also the whole superior siege snobbery sometimes rears its ugly head when people toss catapults or something and suddenly realize we don’t even have the supply to build it.

The main argument against regular siege is that it contributes to the siege cap, but outside of deliberate trolling, I can’t say it’s actually been an issue— lack of siege is usually the bigger one.

You after 3 years still care about a completely pointless scoring system.

You feel in the right to commandeer public teamspeak channels because the commander does not come to save “your” tower.

You have used the phrase “true way of playing WvW” and were actually serious.

You feel entitled to special privileges within your community and that the server owes you something for your sacrifices nobody asked you to make.

Projection much? I mean I despise the PPT’arding individuals you describe because I know a few like that and they’re in my block list, but hold back on the salt— because not everyone is like that and probaly not in this thread especially. It’s bad for your health.

Please Remove Daily/Monthly AP Cap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

After some discussion in Bloodstone Fen tonight, I also discovered I’m capped as well. And I thought, “Other than the two gold and middling gift, what’s the point of doing dailies anymore?”

If the primary rewards an activity don’t interest you, then naturally it is pointless beyond the quality of the activity itself. Doesn’t mean it’s pointless for everyone. Just don’t do them.

The rewards from dailies far outstrip the effort required to complete them. If you’re so established that 2g a day for 15 minutes of effort is still not good enough for you, then give yourself a good pat on the back, for you are very well accomplished in the game.

I think the writ of experience from most dailies is completely worthless because I have level 80 of each class and it does nothing but provide an eyesore. Doesn’t mean the game needs to be changed to suit my needs.

Dailies already represent a disproportionate part of all AP. I think that makes it a complete joke because it doesn’t really measure any degree of accomplishment in the game. Ironically, this is probably my best argument for increasing the cap.

The only thing that I think should turn down is prebuffing. It’s fine to have all these OP boons in combat because incoming damage is ridiiclous without it, but on the other hand so is getting 1 min of prot and quickness before you even start a fight makes it really passive and kills all semblance of diversity.

Maybe a arbitrary time cap on quickness, resistance, protection, and fury?

It seems like people think that if that dueler isn’t dueling, they’ll go help facilitate the blob or barring that, some other person in their place will help in that cause. That’s honestly wishful thinking in most cases. You’re more likely to get people that only farm nodes/reward tracks/dailies and then afk. Or you might have someone that’s actually suited towards fighting other players and picking off the enemy tail if you ask nicely enough. Or they might attract enemy attention by having zerglings trying +1 and +2 and getting wrecked and then making angry threads about it here. I mean if they get 15 people screaming “red is dead” and chasing a poor soul across the map, that’s got to be some kind of tactical advantage.

My other suspicion of the other source of complaints is that a blob guild can’t get all their guildies in because obviously they are more important than anyone else. Usually they’ll come in, think they’re God’s Gift to the map and demand everyone bow down to their tag. Sure you can duel in a non-queued map, but what about blobbing a non queued map?

Of course, there’s also the roaming classes and builds that don’t work that well in a group….

When you ask in game, it is somewhat luck dependent because you may have come on at a time where people that know aren’t on the map. If you post on their forums, eventually someone will get to you I imagine.

Ok, Sounds like a simple question but it is not. Mainly due to the wide ranging opinions.

My take is as follows;

Firstly, If I have no time or am given no warning indication by my team mate, I step in.

If I am then given an indication I stop attacking and move on.
If the enemy kills me with my player helping or not I move on.
( do not assume you will get help)

If the allied player abuses me, I put them on block and move on.

Please note, once blocked you can no longer let me know it is a duel and best move to the duelling areas I avoid.

The mileage varies for each player, if I am in an 1v1 , arranged or otherwise I will attempt to tolerate the actions of any allies, whatever they may choose to do.

Sounds fair. If someone is salty they don’t deserve any consideration.

False dichotomy here.

Have you ever considered that those people might just be taking a break from running around? A lot of people encounter each other roaming and it’s just more convenient to meet up at a predetermined spot rather than just run around aimlessly hoping to get lucky.

Try giving this a read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play_

It can be useful to hone various skills which can be applied in more practical situations, aka getting better.

In a game that promotes zerging everything, I suppose people that seek some degree of self improvement in a game where the bar can be set quite low are quite the bane of its existence.

I have seen players who are 1 vs 1 monsters, but in real fight they are totally useless. So i could say that 1 vs 1 fights will lower your skill level.

Well, we have no idea of how useless they were before that! Improvement is relative.

Totally agree. I’ve found dueling to be tremendously helpful from a small-scale skills point of view, and from the perspective of adding more variety to the game mode.

I find it helps small-scale wvw rather than ruins it, and I think it would be easy for someone to ask similar question of, “do small-scale/havoc squads ruin large scale scene” with just as much justification. In that case, hypothetically, someone could be concerned that five or six havoc groups plus roamers could have made a mid-sized tagged-up group, which is obviously better (sarcasm).

Yea, the thing I would be pointing is that there’s an assumption that someone would be dueling and if they weren’t, they’d be blobbing. This is not the case, and some may just opt to log off. There’s a lot of downtime sometimes.

Hate fighting druids; can’t win at all. But unlike some other things, at least you can get away from them lol.

Perhaps the class feels so obscene when played to cap because long term ranger players have been playing with heavy weights for so long that when the class was brought to par (or above par) it feels absurd. Especially for a class whose skill ranges from your bearbow keyboard turner to that druid you can’t even hit.

Certainly I can see the difference when I can hop on my own ranger and railroad some easy kills but just fall apart against anyone experienced enough because I just don’t know how the class works. I’ve just noted that often with classes that were once crap but suddenly they’re no longer free kills and everyone loses their minds. Part of it is due to overtuning yes, but a lot of it also has to do with not even recognizing what you’re dealing with because you never have had to before.

Now, this isn’t saying that there are baddies that are carried by HoT builds like myself, but this is hardly specific to druids.

Sure, I’m sure we’ll see posts like “I just hopped on a ranger and killed someone and I don’t even play ranger!” but perhaps you were > your opposition anyways in terms of raw skill? And the game design doesn’t work in 1v1. Yea, I know it’s not balanced anywhere, but what did you expect?

Do whatever you feel is right. Though personally I will stop attacking if I’m having some decent fight in the middle of nowhere, and 4-5 people decide a spike is worth the chase. On the other hand, if you fight near an objective, especially a big one, that’s pretty much the equivalent of playing on the highway and you don’t have any expectation of privacy. Personally, I don’t interfere when 2 consenting adults do things out of the public eye. Whoops… yea!

Usually it’s rather clear but if not I put ???? in say chat when things are nonstandard; ala they’re not attacking each other or w/e. Usually I get some commentary on how much of a nub the other person is and they’re stalemated. People really love to share. Just ask!

There are sometimes I will +1 and that is if I know the servermate/friend there is a z... not suited for roaming and it was highly unlikely that they’d be doing it. On the other hand, if I know my friend is a leeroy, then I’m just going to leave them to their own devices. xD There are also cases where I know that enemy has a tendency to +1 or has friends that inevitably join in when their buddy is losing so I know it’s a farce anyways.

Incidentally, I’ve gotten yelled at more for not helping 3v1 or (even worse) some guy. I have better things to do with my life usually.

I don’t know. I get that all’s fair so I can’t really judge people that disagree. But I consider an obsession with adding more numbers to make things worse. So you have a 1v1 and 2 people splat the 1 guy, so now the other person always brings 2 buddies as backup. So they travel as groups of 3 and that encourages solo players that encounter this group to also call for backup against this, and then other side calls for even more numbers as “backup” and then so on and so on. How should I term this? Mutually assured blobbing. This starts an endless cycle of blobbing and all of a sudden you get 30 people “havoc” and nobody wants to fight unless they have a map queue.

Oh wait…

As a side note is final salvo superspeed AOE; since the tooltip is very vague on it.

Is that a question? :P
If so, yes it’s aoe, guild groups usesually use 2 engineers in gvgs to apply tons of super speed to move around the enemy bombs

Yea it missed the Q mark.

Well I mean it does say “Gyros grant superspeed” and most tooltips usually say “for allies” but boo Anet for not documenting their game properly. =p

And as for Rocknull, yea I’d imagine that thing is quite a trigger xD and I do understand because sometimes I’m the only scrapper in the whole group but fortunately my guildies know what’s up and generally prefer me around anyways as opposed to not as all. I can definitely sub in as most classes as needed but otherwise I rotate around Guardian/Eng/Ele/Mesmer/Rev as I see fit though I generally am more conservative when playing with unknowns.

But yes, it does suck to show off footage or a story and then someone goes that you could have done better with something else when we have no idea how your group works together. Sometimes they may just write you off as a class diehard that doesn’t know about other classes, but I don’t think that’s the case for myself. I noticed a lot of comments towards gw2 videos veer towards the salty end….

Though my comp is largely crap and I can’t really count so I have no idea what’s really a good skirmish at times. Frankly, I usually just watch Gw2 footage for the entertainment value and not 360 noscope MLG.

I will say that I have been testing Iron Blooded and Bulwark Gyro though after this thread. The gyro actually lasts a bit which surprised me, but I’m not complaining since the Reconstruction Field and the Gyro are some serious damage mitigation.

Throw mine was fun and actually a pretty solid choice but its funny you mention it because the tool belt ability on throw mine will 100-0 kill you faster then nades as far as retal is concerned.. It has happened to me on a couple separate occasions funny as hell . I actually want to try throw mine with with a tool/inv/scrap (mines everywhere!) build but i mite have to bulk up on toughness/vit if im losing ironblood and the occasional adaptive armor

I’m not really sure how mine field, could kill you as fast as nades could considering you can’t spam it at all and you could really just hit the same amount of targets with nades. You’d have to be pretty kitten ed lucky, but TBH the only time I’ve died to retaliation is when I foolishly overload fire on ele (remind me to not do that). But it’s more of the combo of reflects + retaliation— I mean, yea I’ve opened nades in zergs before. I’ve even done FT! But I’m going to tell everyone the risks involved.

You and a couple of others are making the case for Inv/tool like i dont know about it. trust my friends I know all about it. inv/alch/scrap was my first frontline build but like anything else i got a little better at staying alive so now i can trade out some survive -ability for raw damage.

There’s only 6 trees lol, so yes the chance you’ve come across it is high. Of course many of us have played engineer (I sure hope!) and inventions is just one that’s hard to let go. It’s not like any of us introduced firearms right? If you can survive without it, that’s fine. I just don’t like a damage oriented tree because I feel one could just gear more aggressively and since a good chunk of the damage is biased towards explosive, which again, I’ve expressed potential problems with the dps being realized.

lol there it is…. GREN. What is it about this community?

Let me ask are the people who still think GWEN/GREN is the only viable comp the same people voting for trump? Classism? i swear …..

Wah, call me narrow minded or dumb or something. That’s too far man.

But seriously, you really think I told you to go play another class? Why would I even bother commenting on builds and utilities then, or even open this thread beyond “LOLZ PLay A REVEANT”?

What you choose to play is your own decision, but you can’t just ignore the meta because the enemies and some of your allies are most likely following some variant of it so it’s a good idea to know where you stand in it. There’s a reason why your own group consists of 2 guardians and a rev— they’re indispensable, and meanwhile you are competing against eles and warriors for the same spots! This is a fact. If your group is able to accommodate your needs, that is definitely swell, but usually when it comes to this thread, we’re generally talking about giving advice to the general public well.

All I am saying is that it is very hard to compete with these things currently, and (I’m not sure how you didn’t read the last part), that the recent whack to tempests might give scrappers a place to stand more so. So again, where is this classism?

Interestingly enough, metabattle lists scrappers (but not warriors) as part of the wvw meta which brings me a chuckle since metabattle isn’t everything. But it’s still amusing enough to bring up and the general quality of the WvW section has steadily gone up, so….. are there some sick Toss Elixir R scrappers running around or something?

I normally would agree lightning fields overwriting other fields is normally a l2p issue which is why I didn’t say anything about thunderclap, but it is linked to your heal which is why I find it a bit sketchy. As a side note is final salvo superspeed AOE; since the tooltip is very vague on it.

I don’t think wells are a good comparison against nades, because wells can strip boons, and also are not reflectable. Wells also tick 5 targets per pulse while you hit multiple targets per grenade. Its a big difference. Nades are good for vuln, chill, and poison beyond raw damage, and that’s it. Note that Revs, Eles, and Necros all have big burst skills that aren’t reflectable. It’s just a sad fact of life when Revs, Eles, and guardians can potentially put out a lot of projectile hate, and the former two with almost zero effort.

Explosives isn’t really a favored tree because it mostly just increases more damage. It’s basically 7% more damage and 10% extra damage but only for the grenades. None of the GM traits are particularly good. The vulnerability stacking is so-so. The mortar trait is quite nice but you’re not using it.

If you’d like to keep Explosives, maybe try Throw Mine. The toolbelt skill isn’t reflectable and is easy to get off in melee, plus the occasional boon strip is useful. The actual utility isn’t too hot but it is a blast finisher and can also be thrown where the enemy will go making it less subject to reflects. Sure there’s cooldowns on it but it’s not like you’d be spamming nades anyways.

Inventions is nice because of the extra healing, mecha legs, and bunker down also contributes a good bit of damage. I don’t think it’s essential as much as I find most engineer trees highly lacking so if you can live without it, that’s fine too.

As for stealth, I think Toss Elxiir S tends to be better for breaking target but I suppose using them both has its perks.

Personally, I think Revs and Eles have dominated support so hard, that there really doesn’t seem to be any space for non-GREN. However, the ele’s recent nerfs may change matters a bit… so keep on experimenting.

Med kit needs to have some offensive utility too. For example, the 1 skill could periodically blind enemies or something. Healing someone else for a piddling amount while doing nothing does nothing. Even eles that camp water can still hurt the enemy!

I think it should give out condis kinda like elixir gun.

Another possibility is to turn into a signet’ish thing, but there’s too much passive stuff in the game.

Thanks for sharing.

Not a fan of sneak gyro; as the bigger the numbers get because it cannot keep up with swiftness-boosted characters. It’s designed to pretty much keep up someone using a 25% move bonus (ala mecha legs). Also the gyro itself is visible which is fine when you’re alone but when people in a group see it, it’s prone for an easy target to drop aoe on. Personally I think Mortar is better beceause of the additional chill field (frost aura), poison on downs, and of course, the extra water field.

The other issue is the stability. You were fortunate enough to be placed with 2 guardians, so if it’s a guild group you trust that can do that for you, you should do a lot better. If you’re in a pug zerg, you will most certainly be dumped in the trash with the rangers and co so do take account that or bring your own personal stability in the form of Elixir B but honestly if you have guardians giving you stab, the toss B is a good supplemental form of stability in case someone screws up their stab.

Other comments on the video:

  • You should turn on show enemy names tags, because it was rather hard to discern what you were actually fighting. It’s a good idea to know how many enemies you’re fighting.
  • Nades aren’t really recommended because if you note, those 500 retal ticks do add out. It’s the same reason why guardians do not randomly whirling wrath in the middle of a zerg and if you have enemy auramancers hitting their magnetic aura, you’re in for a world of hurt. Also nades are mostly taken for vuln spam which is great! And chills and stuff. But these things tend to be really marginal in zergs…
  • You don’t have a blast finisher, and this is a problem when people call for waters. If you can control your rocket charge, or just find an enemy nearby to smack in the face, a leap finisher in a water field generates comparable healing as long as you don’t get too far out of position. It’s also good to use when you activate f1.
  • Speaking of that, you have I believe no condi clears either. (EDIT: You actually do, HGH just increases the frequency) This is fine with revenants spamming resistance and guardian condi clears, but it does put a burden on them. All the other standard zerg classes generally have a good panic button when it comes to condis should the resistance fail. For example, guardians come with f2 condi clears and Pure of Voice ready, and tempests can overload water. This doesn’t mean they don’t trust their teammates, but it’s something that comes standard anyways. I think HGH is great; I’ve never had a need for Iron Blooded and it feels somewhat selfish anyways.
  • Also not a fan of Final Salvo in zergs. The reason for that is that it creates a lightning field when the stuff blows up and that can sometimes be highly undesirable.

Anyhow, whatever works for you and keep up the good work and hope to see more videos.

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards,
