Marauder gear

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

ArchonWing.9480

Marauder is a unique stat because it uses HoT mats but doesn’t require the expansion to make as you can just get the recipe from the vendor. It also doesn’t required jeweled damask patches to make ascended. You’ll naturally have to buy the materials if you don’t have HoT.

The other HoT stats such as trailblazer do require HoT because the recipe can only be purchased in an HoT map.

Marauder exotic costs about 10g per piece + the cost of leveling crafter. Ascended is naturally much more expensive— ~100g a piece.

I haven’t used it in months due to how cumbersome it got and the how plentiful xp boosts from wvw are. Also, candy corn has gotten a bit more expensive over time.

For a 300 gem purchase though, I thought it did its purpose well.

I’m not sure if celestial is that great of an idea for this build.

You’re doing mostly physical damage aside from the flamethrower burn so condi damage doesn’t help that much and you don’t really have anything to take advantage of healing power with.

Backpack regenerator doesn’t seem to be a good idea as none of the kits are really worth camping.

Finally, being kited will be a problem.

Well, that and Gw2 esports = lulz

At its heart, Gw2 just seems to have carved a role for casual players, and the anonymity of WvW with the lack of cross team chat tends to be good for that kind of thing. And of course it is blob friendly so a lot of insecurities and badness tend to melt away when you can hide in the crowd. I understand that’s not probably desirable for the competitive minded, but then again this is a game where people get frustrated over slightly hard pve content so it might just be for the best.

Sure, you can make fun of the game for being “carebear” and whatnot, but it really does has its benefits. Not all of us want to do with some wannabe esports brats that found whatever on metabattle this month.

Yea, I don’t think Anet ever intended the bridge to PvP to be better for many than the actual PvP, but it is what it is. It also allows for people that are umm… mechanically challenged to contribute to a pvp enviornment through scouting, maintenance, and of course, siege that certainly wouldn’t show up in an actual pvp match. Then again, I’d probably cry if you had to rely on me to hit something with a treb or mortar so maybe I shouldn’t talk so big….

Official Feedback Thread: WvW Reward Tracks

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Well, it seems to have have a lot of great effect according to gw2efficiency. Naturally my account was worth crap before due to mostly playing WvW and I’m still in the bottom compared to others with similar playtime— it barely increased in the two months before the patch which I am sure in pve it would have been a lot more which surprises no one. Now I just have so much crap sitting in my bank I’m not sure what to do with it.

I drew a blue line indicating when the April WvW changes came along and I’ve been mostly WvW ever since the changes. Although disappointingly enough, it’s probably just some of the skins I’ve gotten with the tracks or something. Still good— I’d probably never get them normally. Part of it is also due to me playing more, which is also good.

Questions about reward tracks

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

Reward tracks are for WvW players to acquire things they’d have to pve for. It’s only natural the original channel of dungeons is more efficient than getting that stuff, but on the other hand it’s probably easier to grind out wvw reward tracks than to grind dungeons depending on how much you care.

Basically, you should target whatever content you won’t be normally playing.

It cannot be an intended feature for one to use such a roundabout measure to whisper someone.

Personally, I think they should just allow whispering across servers. Believe it or not, not every enemy player whispers you because they’re to talk trash. Once my guildie killed an afk person and they got a whisper of something like “lol ouch”. There are also people, mainly duelers, that would like to fight you again but something else interrupted.

However, using the block feature or contact feature to stalk someone isn’t justifiable. Blocking someone should completely remove them from your sights and it should be mutual. You obviously shouldn’t be able to block someone and still talk to them. Otherwise, what does block even mean?

I’m not really sure what could be done as they can listen to an enemy TS and Anet cannot control what happens outside of their game.

Plus there are many other ways. For example, say your friend has an account on an enemy server; you could always just tell them to go into WvW and relay information. They wouldn’t have to sabotage anything at all and could play normally.

I suppose there needs to be more report options though. There are too many things that cannot fit in those categories.

Mystic forging superior siege is possible but I’ve mostly stopped doing it even though I have like 100 siegemaster things in the bank. You can only craft one at a time; that just kills it totally when I can select how many I want from the heroics vendor so I pretty much only forge siege when it’s mystic forge daily.

It doesn’t help that elder wood is so expensive now. https://gw2efficiency.com/currencies/spirit-shards

As one can see, siege is one of the worst use of spirit shards in terms of value, except maybe golems. So it seems that one would be better off buying it straight off the TP and waste less time— and using the shards for anything else for a method that takes less clicks and makes more gold so that you can buy even siege anyways or just save up heroics if one wants to save gold. Right, now it just really feels like you’re clicking more to save an inconsequential amount of gold (and are effectively losing it in the long run. )

To make matters worse? Well, if you’re using badges to purchase the regular siege needed to make the superior ones, you might want to reconsider.

https://gw2efficiency.com/currencies/badges-of-honor

tl;dr Back when Mithril and Elder wood were so plentiful and cheap, forging siege might have saved gold. But now since elder wood’s more than 4x as expensive, it’s really not as such.

Spirit shards are good. But it’s a pain clicking on them all. Maybe a use all button.

What I really don’t like are those writs of experience. They can be exchanged for ToK which are already marginally worthless as suggested above but it’s pretty tedious and the MF vendor isn’t everywhere. Although that’s not a wvw thing though I guess; I just felt like bringing them up.

Acid bomb isn’t thrown or consumed, so it doesn’t remove a condi. It does give you might though because of HGH

Something that should be removed from the game because I don’t like it.

Still, that is how the game is ment (that is all gw2 is about) to play, for some reason Anet makes them and only touch them when many rumble on that build, and much more play it.

Even on CS and other mmo i listen players doing gw2 fail jokes and only bad players keep playign it… that is how the game is known… saddly :|

Just look how Anet manage pvp, to avoid balance or work on classes they remove trinkets to hide how broken classes are.

They probably do have some merit where, sure, Gw2 isn’t exactly the most skillful game and balance is highly questionable and way too knee jerk and too slow at the same time. Esports is just a pipe dream.

On the other hand, I’m more annoyed by the common mentality that when the first time one encounters hardship, their first response is to demand nerfs. Thus, I don’t care too much for the common depiction of so called skill, as a lot of them probably aren’t playing to win anyways.

This doesn’t mean one can’t comment on imbalance and bad design because there’s plenty of that, but at the same time a lot of it must be taken with salt.

How do you play WvW???

Yea, like I said, I really feel like mesmers are so underappreciated; and people seem to think veil has a 0 second cooldown or something. And yea, I understand if you don’t want to be a veil or portalbot.

It also really brings up something and sometimes you really need to know what it is like in someone else’s shoes. Maybe they didn’t res you because something is about to be lost, or their group is losing or maybe there’s 20 people targeting them. They can be tied up easily and maybe they’re not helping you not to spite you. Also, it’s kind of hard to spot people in a zerg already.

Remember, reviving double downs especially with current mechanics is just not a priority especially if it may endanger the whole group.

How do you play WvW???

ArchonWing.9480

Like most aspects of the game and probably any other things, the game is best played with friends and what are most likely guildies as well as a trusted circle. It’s a quality, not quantity thing, and frankly I don’t care about anyone else. I do like recklessly trying to res people though, but that’s just something I take personal pride in.

It’s why I haven’t transferred servers even though I probably should have. I’ve developed a disdain for the PPT blowhards (and they seem to be the loudest) that don’t tolerate the fact that I have no interest in defending a t1 tower against 86 people in the lord’s room when the scouting report comes when the lord is at 25%. Of course, there’s an extreme overlap with those who talk big and don’t show up when it gets tough. (You know, PPT hard when the matchup is easy, then PPT you up to a place where there are nowhere to be seen besides scolding whoever’s in map chat). I dunno, maybe they are salty that they’re so bad at the game that they don’t even know what their skills do since the UI to them is just siege skills and have to live vicariously through someone that actually knows how to press more than just 1 and 2.

But while this sounds like a rant against people that defend and such, that’s not really true either. I actually have a lot of respect for those people that do come out every day but they also give the same respect to others. And what’s more is that they do show up regardless of us ticking +5 or +695, and that I think is something special. Sadly a lot of them left after the DBL came out which depressed me greatly but they seem to be returning.

We have a lot of guilds and friends that aren’t leaving, so I don’t leave as a result. Though frankly it always seems the grass is greener on the other side and using alt accounts have viewed a similarity among pugs at least. In the end, it’s an MMO. The quality of the game really depends on the people you play with. Don’t try to take the world on your own, and stop imagining percieved slights in a video game. Life’s way too short for that.

I mean, hey, once, as a mesmer, the commander left me in the stinky sewer hole in the enemy EB keep for like 20 minutes until he realized there was nobody to place veils. It’s just a funny story now, instead of something to be left salty about. That being said, an extra toast goes out to people that play mesmers regularly, since people expect them to be omnipotent somehow, and often to do suicidal portal tasks. I have to admit sometimes I just stay silent when someone asks for the next suicidal portal bomb. (Portals can only carry 20 people FYI)

To be fair, I think there’s not enough variety in the mastery points. Better than Central Tyria but I save my rant for later.

And let’s not forget there’s a mastery point tied to getting bronze for all of VB, so that’s adventure related. Though it’s only bronze, I think we were better off adding one for VB and TD.

There’s also a number of issues with the non-adventures so I imagine people have less leeway. I though the Canopy over Pact Encampment Mastery point was absurd and far harder than any adventure— that’s really the only one where I actually quit and requested for someone to portal me.

OTOH, you really don’t need to be “good” at these things for quite a few of them. Just mechanic abuse.

Wall of but’s I told you to save…

Oh, a Necro can do blah blah blah. I have a weapon, it should work on all enemies regardless of downed state, period. This is the only weapon in game that is broken as such. Broken… b..r..o..k..e..n.. and it should be fixed.

How anyone can excuse this is ridiculous.

I can excuse it because you’ve made assertions that you need to prove. Trying to insist that anyone else that disagrees with you that is wrong is ridiculous.

You do have a weapon skill that works on downed enemies. I hope you realize most weapons are pretty much designed to spam 1 with. I use it all the time when all my other stuff is on cooldown. It also build your life force. The synergy is so beautiful when you use it with soul marks to keep your LF up so you can do more spinny action.

Your other assertions that those skills should work on enemies and that it’s even broken when reapers are so prevalent everywhere places the burden of proof on you.

But I can always toss an anecdote. Got 40~ loot bags in an hour of playing reaper and the action was on and off, mostly camping staff and hitting 234. And I even casted marks on downs for comedic reasons. Mostly just staff 2 since usually my marks were on cooldown due to them actually being used on standing players. And I somehow got an ascended armor piece out of a rank up chest, so I wasn’t complaining. I don’t even regularly play reaper in wvw, probably first time in 2 months so anyone could easily have done better. Hell, I don’t even know what most of the reaper shroud skills do except 4 seems ridiculously broken.

tl;dr necro staff is good enough already for what it does.

ArchonWing.9480

Since this continues to sidetrack and fixate on loot, etc. let me pull this back to marks needing to be fixed. I have a weapon with 5 skills. Four of the Staff skills do not hit downed enemies. That is an extremely broken design! All of my offensive skills should help in killing a downed enemy. And, before you all begin with your “but’s”, you can save them. It’s a broken weapon and it’s needed fixing for far too long.

These forums….. it’s like herding cats in a field of Catnip.

That complaint only sounds logical if you ignore the fact that you have a weapon swap;, a functional autoattack that you can supplement with air or fire sigils, and the fact that necros and reapers are also balanced around the fact that they can use shroud regardless of weapon set of which the very same AA also helps build up life force. So it’s disingenuous to claim there’s nothing a necro can do to finish the job because that is just plain false.

And there’s no rule that offensive skills should do such a thing, otherwise they’d all be the same. I don’t cast static field on someone downed and then mummer that it doesn’t really help.

Let’s also not forget that marks persist for a while until triggered unlike most attacks that go nowhere if they miss.

Finally, if you have only downed people to hit with your marks, then one of the following is true

  • The fight is over anyways and thus this issue is irrelevant.
  • You are way out of position and letting living, standing foes beat on your allies
  • You actually need to finish a downed so someone will rally. In that case, there’s always shroud 4.

The only situation where I’d consider this an issue is that the blast finisher of putrid mark is wasted. That’s it though. Bet nobody thought of that.

Am I the only one wondering why people are taking a pver’s request for rebalancing seriously? It’s clear his only concern is for lootbags and spending all that time making spreadsheets over loot? If they had spent that time doing combat theory crafting they might have figured out such basic mechanics of the necro by now.

Sorry to break that for you.

We’re talking a possible BUG or lackluster weapon design.

People already pointed out that my build nor my skill rotation based on my raid’s damands are fine.

I have 8 000 hours in this game where at least 7 000 are spend in WvW raiding with my guild so please don’t be so ignorant and call people pver’s – It makes Broze Tier Players like you really stupid. (Oh yes you’re not anonymous we can all see since when you’ve been playing and where you spend your time in-game my dear PvE loving friend)

I want this game to be balanced for all classes – right now every other class which can use staff except necro have their skills able damage downed players and this need to be fixed.

A bug is not the right word to describe it, if the behavior is intentional.

It’s disingenuous to compare staves across classes when they don’t even perform the same roles.

Ele staff is strong because they can’t swap so it needs to have a way to kill. Guardian staff is a support weapon; it does very low damage on its own, unlike Necros who can get rather solid ranged damage on actually alive opponents. Mesmer staff… well, it’s nice but Mesmer players are mostly throwing bricks at the screen at a staff necro complaining about no tags.

So you know, I want to kill people by camping staff too. Triple Guardian staff 1’s damage and maybe we can talk. I’d settle for just 1200 range too.

@ Luna. That build is fine (using something similar myself) and I don’t see why you wouldn’t get bags though you should consider quickening thirst. You might want to try “chilled to the bone” for elite if you have reaper. I assume you have reaper as you left the 3rd tree blank— may want to try to gw2skills as that has elite specs. A fire sigil can also contribute to bags.

Do you feel a bit shy getting a bit close though? Do you have trouble with staying up? Are you saving for clumps when you cast wells?

It has absolutely nothing to do with being good at the game.

If it were simple lack of knowledge of skill usage, I think it’d be dumb to scoff at anyone, because the game is confusing and inconsistent at times. I mean, I constantly confuse Mortar skill 2 and 4 still. That’s pretty terrible.

It’s rather the fact that people would rather ask something to be “fixed” without understanding how something is used first. Unfortunately, this seems to be a problem with modern gaming. In particular in Gw2, due to a number of mechanics, but mostly based off of zerging, players are able to accomplish a lot of things without having to actually learn these things as there will be someone else to cover for them. It’s not even the fault of players; it’s just how the game is designed. There’s plenty of group content in PvE, for example, that I really couldn’t be bothered to learn, and in the end I’m indirectly being carried by someone so that I wouldn’t be able to do it on my own. I don’t really care about pve efficiency, but I’m not going to defend myself.

But you can’t have good game design if nobody knows how the game is played though. And thus, I don’t complain about a lot of those things because I know I made a deliberate choice to not put an effort to actually play the content to a level where I could make legitimate commentary.

That’s why I suggest to a lot of people to get off that arrow cart and leave the zerg for a bit and go by yourself or with a few friends for a bit. No, it’s not because those things are inherently bad, and if you do it 99% of the time that’s fine. But just try it for a bit; you’ll die a lot for sure, but in the end your mistakes are your own and you will approach the scenarios even when you go back to the zerg very differently.

Yep, I have gotten inactive when they’re talking. I sometimes try to give out boons;don’t know if that helps.

Why the unrelenting pressure to do JPs?

You don’t have to do all the dailies.

Now, oftentimes the dailies have poor selection, I would have to say for pve. I usually do the wvw ones. For example, I haven’t ever done the zone event daily since HoT came out and probably more. I think that one is a hassle for all the wrong reasons (notably players competing for events), and would probably prefer it to be regional much like gathering.

Dailies + Dungeons Causing Inflation

Dailies give 2g a day.

In a year you will have 730 gold.

That’s not even enough for a single set of ascended equipment. If anything, they’ve been updated to keep up with inflation.

You can buy memories of battle on the TP

That costs 3.8 gold for 200, which is a drop in the bucket if you’re going for a legendary.

How do you deal with stealth gankers?

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

  • Take a more obtuse road. IE Not out the front door of EB keep to SM.
  • Run stealth yourself, or a runaway build until you reach the zerg.
  • Avoid sentries. That tells them you’re there.
  • Grab a friend and hold hands.
  • You need mobility regardless, if you are being picked off at the tail, then you are lacking in that area.

I must have had the oddest luck then. Might as well go confirm. I really can’t remember the last time I got sucked underneath.

This needs to be changed ASAP. Essentially gates the collection behind purposefully failing. Encourages you to not participate in dps so you have more chances to get the whirlpool. Massive kittening timegate given that teq only spawns like twice a day and most people can’t play for that long. Nothing about it is fun or interesting.

A bit more than twice a day.

Tequatl Whirlpools and Achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ArchonWing.9480

I haven’t seen the whirpools for quite the longest time myself. I used to do Teq daily before HoT came out and have 3 teq weapons to my name as well as sunbringer and the whirlpools have usually only showed up when there were major mistakes made. I think this is a problem because weirdly enough Sunbringer is harder now to get despite people being better at Teq.

The problem is that the whirlpools appear near the end of a burn phase but if you burn him too fast it doesn’t show; as people have been getting better at Teq, this is being increasingly more common. In the past it was much easier and the game has had a lot of power creep since.

But then if you get a fail map and can’t burn him at all, the whirlpool isn’t going to show.

In essence, we have gotten too good at doing Teq and the best way to get him is to burn him mediocrely but not so bad you can’t even get him down.

Yea, pretty much. It was never meant for pve’rs another farm spot if that’s all they are here for. It was meant for WvW players.

That being said the reward track booster should apply here too.

Not sure why you guys are having this problem cuz on my venom share thief i just sit back and watch the bags roll in.

That is probably because you’re also getting support credit; if you’re taking leeching venom with venomous aura a lot of healing is being credited to you.

Help! New lvl 80 Engi - feeling very squishy!

Well, when you take a squishy build, you tend to be squishy.

In open world I recommend taking scrapper with sneak gyro and bulwark gyro. The reflects can come in handy. This cuts the challenge by 75%. In addition take inventions to get the mecha legs to move faster and also reduce the effectiveness of chill/cripple immobolize.

Fastest way to farm Badges of Honor

ArchonWing.9480

Hehe ok thanks everyone for your advice! You’re awesome Wahoo! You think a nade / mortar engi can keep up with a lootstick?

It really can’t, and you’d end up dead for a lot of reasons— reflects and also having to take offensive trait lines. Mortar is too slow and grenades hit many small hits so retaliation will eat you. You’d have to use mortar as support (use it to set fields), and hammer/medical dispersion field.

Sample for tagging if you don’t want to swap characters:

Defense’s Field is good against people that just try to mindlessly shoot at you.

Best way to tag for kills is guardian/ele/necro, and metabattle’s builds are sufficient for that purpose.

Why the double team against TC?

Sad part is the server just started rebounding after the exodus which sent it to T2. There was only one pugmander left.

Closed raids and lost presence from the influx of people invading just means we’re further in the red once they leave.

You have my condolences as it is definitely a terrible situation. There might be a chance though that once those people leave, it may result in others coming back once they fix all the host servers being full.

Oh, and I’d like to address your previous point about having the reputation tarnished for being a bandwagon— there’s practically no server in the top half that hasn’t that happen to it multiple times. Especially when the people that are already there have no say.

Fastest way to farm Badges of Honor

in WvW

Posted by: ArchonWing.9480

ArchonWing.9480

The most time efficient but not the fastest way is to simply do wvw dailies. Those give the most badges for time spent (10-20 per daily), but obviously you can only do them once a day. Though sometimes you will get the big spender and you’ll get less badges back than you spend. Non-WvW’ers should take this approach.

Otherwise, you can kill players for them. Find a zerg in EB or EOTM, pick a class like an ele, guard, or ele to give as much support and hit as many targets as you can.

Ah, that really does suck. I recall a guildie on YB lamenting the same thing when their server was infected with parasites that turned their server into a puppet.

Eventually the leechers will find another host, and thus begins the purification process. It will probably hurt really bad and potentially be fatal but surviving should make one stronger.
