I don’t think the Elite Spec Mechanic is noticeable enough. Only after I use a Superweapon it gains any relevance (because we don’t have toolbelt skills), before that it doesn’t make you play any different.

Fluff-wise most ideas sound good, but I feel they are too diverse and unrelated. Maybe you should focus on a couple of them and develop from there.

Since I think it is right to see my own happiness as an objective of this game, I think the 2 gold worked very well.

Pure blind optimism?
From most to least important(To ME, of course):

- An amazing LS3 story with 50 hours worth of content, with hard personall choices and persistent consequences (The choices from the majority of players became the official world standard after a couple of months).
- A real, PvE valid and truly impactul Elite Spec Mechanic for Scrapper.
- RP specific aid functions and tools, including “RP map preference checkbox” and Tons of New Emotes.
- Lore imbued, storyline coherent and properly animated/playable explanation for the Revenant timeline phenomena, the sudden development of gliding, and the concrete birth of every Elite Spec.
- Bigger (Visible!) weapons for Asura.
- Reworked Gyros without AI.
- Head and foot gear fixed to correctly match Asura and Charr anatomies.
- Fully reworked, gliding-allowing and megaserver fixed WvW.
- Voice customization for the playable character.
- Pets who don’t forget their names.
- Multiple medium armor sets without trenchcoats.
- Multiple light armor sets without buttcapes.
- New playable race: Steam Creatures, with a proper lore, PS line and coherent explanation.
- 2 new weapon types: Chains and Boomerangs.
- Improved aquatic combat and proper drowning. Breathers become relevant.
- How to dance vol 2 in the gemstore, and How to Legendarily Dance (with 10 new dances) obtainable through a long, hard and diverse quest.
- Raptor, Chak and Karka pets.
- New armor piece: Belts.
- Fun version of the final battle against Zaithan.
- Customizable Home Instance.

I love my airship pass. I don’t see why I should want to change it for something else, much less for a lame Divinity’s Reach one.

Only fix the “Havoc’s Heir” NEEDS is to tone down the steam leaks sound.
Anything else would be a very welcome improvement: changing the ship location randomly would be awesome, and allowing you to travel back automatically to your previous location will be magnificent.

Aesthetic options aren’t silly, are options. Antlers for charr have been needed from a long time.

This doesn’t mean antlers should be THE option that get’s the special treatment… although they should be the unique to make sense for a growing-falling mechanism: antlers are the only “horns” that fall and grow periodicaly.

Personally, I don’t like the idea very much. I think it is too much ado for something too specific. I’d prefer just more hairdos, horns and ears to choose from, and more cultural armors too, without any over-specific mechanic asociated.

Q3 Update and ANET communication

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

I remember them adding JP to the daily rotation: that was AWESOME for me.

I also remember a lot of balance issues keep going still, a bunch of OP Elite Specs keep decimating build diversity, lots of very obvious bugs are still annoying people, new content outside raids continues to be really scarce, armor pieces keep having the short stick when compared to outfits and glider skins, with buttcapes and trenchcoats still being top fashion despite the years. For some reason Asura and charr still use equipment that doesn’t fit them.

I remember Anet saying they will listen more to us and communicate more frequently, and in the Engie forum, Irenio saying they will explore the possibility of adding alternative functions to the FGyro to make it more relevant in PvE.

So yes, the Q2 update maybe was good. But it is clear it was nowhere close to be enough…

It could be done very easily by simply putting flags you have to pass by, like in the Guild Runs.

Also, please, add a title for people who have done every one of the JP in the game world. It IS an achievement, much more than just killing a random champion spawning out of RNG.

Raid Narrative and Lore

Ardid.7203

I’m going to make a very, very silly and not really accurate comparison. Yet I’ll do it to reflect how I feel about all this. Here it goes:

Let’s say “The Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy is the whole story.

Now let’s imagine we all can see “The Two Towers” and “The Return of the King” without any problem, but “The Fellowship of he Ring” is only available to people who can play piano. They will also receive a cool piano as a reward for their performance.

Of course, everyone can read the novels, and read the reviews, and ask a piano player friend to narrate the whole movie. But it still isn’t the same as seeing the movie.

Playing the piano is a nice skill to have, but you’ll need to invest a lot of time just to get the basics, and anyone who can’t invest that time just will never be able to see the movie.

Fun thing is we all paid the ticket for the movies. But as long as you can’t play the piano, you’ll not be able to see the beggining of the story, period.

Some people who can’t play piano are asking if they can just sing instead. They are also saying they don’t want the great piano prize, they would be happy with only seeing the movie. On the other side a bunch of piano players say they want the movie to remain exclusive only for them.

I’m sure I could sing decently if I practice for a time. The time I would need to learn how to play piano, and all the equipment involved is just beyond my possibilities. Yet I don’t understand why the first movie have to be only for people who play piano.

Making a party of 5 pugs to go into Aether Path is quite possible to do.
Making a group of 10 to go into a Raid is HARD.

I’m not talking about the raid itself or the combat mechanics involved. I’m talking just about getting enough people available and coordinated at the same time of the week.

An easier, 5 man mode without the full rewards, made just to play the whole story would be really welcome for me.

Charr and Asura female precursor armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

For people saying that legendary armor should be cultural – though I agree that cultural legendary armor would be nice, do keep in mind that this is specifically the Envoy Armor, and our ‘legendary journey’ (a la the precursor weapon crafting journeys) is tied directly into our actions in the Forsaken Thicket. Therefore, the story of the raid will influence the theme of the armor set visually, across all races.

I feel like cultural legendary armor could and should be a thing, but not acquired from raids. That’s a different journey to be had.

(Also kind of sad that the medium female asura armor will be changing, but the masses have spoken. No wee tummies this day, it seems. At least the horrid female light armor is being axed as well~)

I don’t think anyone is arguing the new Legendary armor and its precursos should be “cultural” from a lore point of view. What we are saying is those armors should be treated as the cultural armors are, from a design point of view: every race should have their own 2 models, specifically polished to take accountof their unique racial characteristics. Not the same stretched model for everyone.

No, Ryou. You aren’t understanding.

The laws of physics, the human concepts and ideals, and the world of aesthetics work togheter, but on different levels.

Fantasy MUST touch concepts from society and explore them. It doesn’t need, however, to adjust itself to real life limitations. On the contrary, it HAS to break those limits to trascend them and reach deeper into the symbolic, metaphysic and speculative.

TLDR: Taking everything from real life is not what fantasy does. Superman exist to explore human nature, not biomechanics.

We can discuse if people wearing thongs can fight or you need military grade realistic gear to just throw a punch on other place.
We can also make a different thread to debate if people should defend sexyness or die for prudeness.

Neither of those are the point of the thread.

IMO the OP is just right: if a set of armor is revealing, it should be revealling for both sexes. If a set is covering, it should be covering for both sexes. If it looks practical, make so for both sexes and the 5 races. If it looks glamorously soft and colorful, make it look just like that for everyone.

Is that simple (and hard). Make every type of character using certain set show the same intent and follow the same logic. Stop being inconsistent with the designs.

Then begin to make MORE designs. More diversity, and more quantity. Please.

It is still a totally limited concept, a mere gimmick, 95% useless in PvE, barely noticeable most of the time in every mode, easthetically unimpressive, that doesn’t change at all the way the Engie is played (hammer does this, not the “game changing elite spec mechanic” they promoted).

It shines once in a blue moon under the right circumstances, but isn’t comparable in any way with the elite spec mechanics other professions received.

Besides, you are arguing “real life logic” reasons to NOT allow character diversity in a fantasy setting. Don’t you see that is plain WRONG?

Even worse, the fat warrior, fat sage and fat trickster are very known and very loved archetypes in multiple fantasy worlds. People here are seriously saying those character concepts shouldn’t exist?

Weapon question : Rifle

I love rifle+FT engie, but IMO engie is a very complex profession, you can’t take it just for the rifle. As Paulintz says, engie rifle is more like a shotgun, mid to short range weapon, focused on CC. I find it VERY satisfying, but you need to use it along kits: much more than just 5 skills for your game.

I don’t like warrior rifle, I find it boring. But also almost everything else from warrior bores me, so dont take my opinion on this too seriously.

Profession Synopsis

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Guardian and Warrior are extremely boring for me. I stopped playing my Warr just a day after he hit 80. Guardian can be amusing here and there, but overall, they move too slow and don’t seem to have great variety in gameplay. Ranger I must say is boring to me too. Most of the damage comes from your pet, and it is far more useful to play from afar without barely moving…

The rest of the profs are really really fun. Mesmers have diverse playstyles: to me they are most fun when you play them for their crazy support options and weird utilities, like the portals. Also, they can kite like hell, and clever Mesmers must be the most annoying opponents in the whole game.

Thiefs just require you to really think what you are doing, because initiative runs out suddenly, and being squishy, they force you to truly evade and position yourself every single second. They are lots of fun too, and have crazy bursts, but require you to be careful and clever, and to truly master their tricks should feel amazing. Abusing stealth is so OP.

Eles are the spoiled child of this game: they just have everything. Damage, sustain, mobility, condis, direct damage, etc. They are specially good at range, but they have so many options I think you can really customize your build to whatever playstyle you want, as long as it include constant change of skill sets.

I have barely payed Revenant, so I can’t realiable give my opinion. As far as I know, they are fun and efficient, though VERY limited in the build area.

All that being said, my favs are Reaper and Engie.

Necro is good, but Reaper is awesome. We can argue that it is THE most slow prof of all, but it’s deliberate pace, cool effects, periodic transformation, multiplicity of damage sources, magnificent art and VO work, and the amazing variety of playstyles/build you can make make the Reaper really really fun to play. I can’t reccomend Asura male reaper with lots of shouts and some minions enough: It is just perfect to hear this kitteny bstrd making his snarky comment while obliterating everything around.

Engie is my main, just because it is the most fun I have had in a game in years. The gameplay style is totally insane: you jump from your weapon to use a specific skill that gives you a field, then go to another to blast that field, then put your turret and make it create another field and have to choose between leaving it there or exploding that very moment, then go back to your weapon to get cc and a burst, then use your toolbelt skill to give burning to your next attack wich is in another kit, and then disengage while blasting everything at the same time, and then run at max speed because you also got perma swiftness…

I’m clearly not a great player, but god, I really have lots of fun just by flamethrowing every mob around me and then giving area might thanks to my satellite laser, all the while gaining multiple might stcks for miself, and moving with swiftness and stability between multiple enemies.

With engie, although only some builds are “optimal”, the possibilities truly are infinite.

Engie skills are really distinct and entertaining to use and see, but there are also a LOT of bugs (from pulls that don’t work if there is a slight slope to harvesting tools replaced by flamethrowers), and some skill families (Turrets) are pure crap. Also, Scrappers have now the problem of dumb AIs (Gyros) making the life hard to live, but a lot of people seems to manage the problems well enough to be competitive.

I’m clearly talking too much here: IMO you should simply use that beautiful 80 booster and test every profession for a while before deciding in wich one to finally invest your time.

Charr and Asura female precursor armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

Redesign each model, honestly. There is no reason for my charr to be forced to fit into human male or female armor. She is a charr. She should have charr precursor armor. Even my male charr should have charr precursor armor.

Recognize that you can’t just force a square peg into a round hole and spend some time designing character armor that fits the character. Especially for legendary armor, armor that I’m expecting you guys to have put some work into, I’m expecting something akin to cultural armor. My asura with legendary armor would signify that my asura is legendary. These armors do not say legendary to me. They say “should have rolled a human.”

Norn and Sylvari would fit into human armors, but honestly they should have their own armor models, as well.

I can only speak from the Asura perspective as I have no Charr, but having the same model for both would make the armour set seem about as legendary as the gem store armours we used to buy that were identical for both genders. It definitely needs a rework, because breast plates on a race without any breasts is a bit silly, and, I don’t think any comment needs to be added on the light leggings other than “dear god, why. That butt looks like it’s concealing a tail the leggings are extending that far out at the back”. There should be a distinction between the two else it defeats the purpose of unique and legendary, but the distinction between the two shouldn’t be the current version at all for the light armour. The medium is… interesting. The heavy is actually okay, however. I’ll also add for medium and heavy’s helmet: If legendary armour/legendary precursor armour is just going to remove ears from existence, what makes this set special compared to the million other sets that already clip through everything that isn’t part of a Human’s model?

Something as special and expensive as legendary armour should really be fit for each race’s culture instead of a copy-paste of the Human’s and it’d be a brilliant yet woefully expensive unofficial tier 4 to the cultural armour, by technicality. When a wedding outfit is more culturally fitting to each race than the most legendary armour in the game, you really do have to question the choice…

Just have to put these two awesome posts here AGAIN, because just +1 them is not enough.
