Why the unrelenting pressure to do JPs?

@Ardid – Yes, “The Dog in the Manger” https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FThe_Dog_in_the_Manger perfectly symbolizes those who can jump well and who enjoy jumping not wanting more choices, so that people who can’t jump don’t have a fair chance.

Who here is asking for jumping to be taken out of the game, or even out of dailies? Just give us more choices.

@ Elden

Then I don’t see why are you arguing with me, Elden. Did I EVER say I dont want more choices? No, never. In fact, I haven’t read any JP supporter saying “please don’t add more choices” either. That seems what you spect us to do, but… we don’t.

On the other hand, the anti JP threads that began to appear with the JP Daily comeback are just that: anti JP. Hence the manger.

Anet really needs to re-examine this, take them out of the daily rotation and let them go back to being a sidebar in the game for those that like them.

Thanks for illustrating my point, Blude.

NPCs should have their dialogue words pooled and then randomly assembled when you talk to one. So for example you’d get “I pray by Ogden’s challenge, but the looking spirits have a right to rarely grow rich violence! I answer I’ve taken leave of my help. Greetings.”

That should keep things nice and fresh.

Somehow random wording dialogue feels creepy to me .

Why the unrelenting pressure to do JPs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ardid.7203

Why the unrelenting pressure to do JPs?
The answer is easy.
“There isn’t any pressure to do JPs”.
Really, you don’t need to do JPs, ever, if you don’t want. No pressure.

Why is there an aparent effort to promote JPs?
The answer is twofold:

1- 3D game value: This is a 3D game. A real 3D game, not a 2D game with 3D graphics. A game where up and down are different, and where space matters. JP are simply the most pure form of recognizing this beautiful fact, and a place where the environment creators can really show off their skill and art. JPs are an amazing work of 3D design, gameplay and world building, which deserves to be known. (GW2 IS NOT GW1, or WOW, or any other 2D-ish MMO.)

2- Exploration vs Routine: Most JP aren’t directly visible or in the most trodden routes. This is because they are meant to reward exploration, so people who really invest time to walk all over the maps gets naturally to them. However, for most people after the first world completion, and for people who never explore in the first place, JP are too far and too unrewarding to bother. Putting them in the daily cycle brings them to view again, revealing a really fun and well done aspect of the game that some had forgotten, and other had never known. (Most times I lead newbies into a JP, they are really delighted with the discovery.)

Finally, to all the people who hate JPs and keep posting this hate-threads: There is an old story that explain far better than me your behavior.

PvP was never balanced in the first place…

While I don’t agree with Anet promising EliteSpecs to be equally powerful as CoreScpecs, just to later see an Elite Meta fest in PvP, I really don’t think that has anything to do with money invested, entitling rights or betraying the playerbase.

Anything new will be grossly unbalanced, because it is new. Elites could have been worse than Cores, but that would have been even harder for the developers. So they choose to use the more typical aprouch: allowing the players to discover the OP points on the Specs, then nerfing them progressively.

EVERY PVP GAME TRY TO DO THIS. I’m talking from a fighters player perspective: the new guy is always stronger, because of sales, because of fan spectatives, because of unexpected bugs and exploits, because of new strats, and because that way is easier to re-balance later.

My point is: a perfectly balanced expansion including big system changes is simply imposible to do. If you feel so salty about the “unfairness” that every single time arose from this, then buy the XP, or stop playing. If you are not so salty, just play and enjoy the game, and wait for the patches. That’s what I’m doing. As always, I choose to ignore metas and just play for fun.

If you feel like complaining, complain about Anet taking too much time for balancing, not about Anet asking a payment for their work, and specially not about other people enjoying things you don’t want to get.

Just to make things clear: I do have the expansion, I do play it and enjoy it, and I dont use meta builds for PvP. I still play the most with my old Core Engie.

In a living dynamic world I’m sure there should be repetitive labors to do. Also when something repeats itself enough, it becomes routine too: events that happen every 10 minutes aren’t that different from static quests.

I still don’t see how the “heart quests” are detrimental to the game. On the contrary, I think they add more life to it, by creating a contrasting landscape of familiar minor characters who live a less adventurous life than the protagonist.

World Boss Daily vs jumping puzzle daily

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ardid.7203

Ardid.7203

I’m sorry to be somewhat rude, but I really don’t see the problem here. Do the things in game that you enjoy. Don’t do the things you don’t. Why do you feel it’s necessary to remove something from the game that others enjoy?

Didn’t see that the OP wanted anything removed, just added to give more choice in PvE.

The thread is called World Boss Daily VS Jumping Puzzle Daily.
The title indicates the intent to compare and replace one of them, as it they were mutually exclusive.

So don’t do the jumping puzzle daily. Do a different daily achievement instead. There are lots. Problem solved.

Not enough PvE choice for those the despise PvP and WvW.

To have more choices is always good, I think we all agree on that point. That said, to despise things is also a choice, usually a bad one.

To state that “world boss” should take the place of “jumping puzzle” in the daily rotation is a valid opinion, but it IS and attack on whoever like doing jumping puzzles.

I don’t understand why people see the existence of the JP daily as a reason to not having a boss daily.

In clearer words: if you want some type of content, ask for it to be added, DON’T ask for other content to be removed.

For me they could add boss daily, fashion daily, dancing daily, dive googles daily, hard-to-find city spot daily, naked daily, wathever. I don’t care. Just please don’t remove JPs from the rotation.

I think some people really need to read about the concept of Opportunity Cost.
Which in this case it is about Exploration vs Combat.
This game call it Perma Swiftness: the choice between a very useful off combat speed boost and a more powerful combat option.

Why do you think the game doesn’t simply offer direct 33% speed boost runes, and instead compels you to incorporate perma-swiftness in your build?

Because this game values Exploration, and give it a wheight through an oportunity cost balance when compared to pure Combat. THIS IS GOOD.

If they at any point introduce a fixed 33% speed boost that doesn’t affect your build, the whole Exploration aspect of it will simply dissapear. Any trait, skill or combination of them that gives you Perma-Swiftness will lose value, and pure Combat meta will bcome even more prevalent. Worst: this new fixed meta will require everyone to take that special boost (In this case, an item-linked, money-linked boost), or be automatically subpar. We already suffer of a lack of variety in builds. This will make it 10 times worst, and trivialize all the amazing Exploration aspect of the game.

That is why mounts, travel items or even runes can’t offer direct 33% speed. Because they dont wan’t you to get an unfair PtW advantage which you will use to skip travel and minmax combat.
