that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”
Hawks
I think it looks funny, and that is good.
BUT, it is an outfit, so no, thank you.
Of all the many, many outfits they have made, I like exactly 0. Because they are outfits.
I did buy the wedding one, because It is basically a collection of 10 cultural clothes.
Pieces of armor and armor sets, on the contrary, I like and have bought.
So, yes, no matter if obtained by coins or ingame, I rather have 1 set of armor than 10 outfits.
I think this suit Warrior better.
Solo: Havoc and Fun. (Sometimes Focused Task Havoc and Fun.)
With Newbies: Teach them as much as possible. Then Havoc and Fun.
With Party/Squad: Havoc and Fun while respecting the mission objectives.
HoT Maps: Carefully Havoc and Fun.
Jumping Puzzles: Just Fun.
PvP: Havoc and…. dead.
WvW: Havoc and Run.
I would love a more mecha-magical rifle, not so long and Charr themed as the predator.
I definitely don’t want anet to change the asuras body type, but it would be really nice to use more of the female versions of outfits.
( On a less related note, it would be awesome if you could switch between the different gendered outfits regardless of sex! )
Do you really want to see and fight with fat male norns fighting in “sexy” dresses?
I think they have the right to dress as they like. I’m sure I would use some masculine armor pieces to make some female characters even MORE sexy.
Happened to me as well. Since then I always make sure to be in party with someone from the octovine fight until the end of the rewards phase.
I own exactly 2 outfits: the veteran one, that is nice but I hardly use, and the wedding one, which is basically a pack of 10 cultural costumes in one bundle.
I will never pay for an outfit. I will pay no doubt for proper armor pieces.
/idle: just a new bunch of random idle animations.
/afk: automatically prompted when the user don’t activate any command for a time. The character sleeps standing, drooling and making slow circles with the head.
/inventary: also automatic when you spend more than 30 secs on your inventary. The character unpacks and search things in its clothes and bags.
Human faces doesn’t allow you to make truly older looking chars. I do have a necro with gray beard and withered skin. While he looks, IMO, older than Redenaz example, he still looks like he is a younger man using a fake beard.
It is even worst when he talks. God, that boyband voice!
(edited by Ardid.7203)
I’ve had times when my char fell face down in regular PvE, and then couldn’t get up. My char then spent the next few minutes traveling across the map face down, like a doll being dragged across the floor.
By the way, you can still harvest nodes like that.
One day more than a year ago, I were doing that Conundrum Cubed jumping puzzle when my engie asura fell flat on her face from a floating cube and almost died. She keep sliding down, though, finally reaching the floor… and don’t get up again util I reloaded the map.
I actually got away from the place and began to roam mount maelstrom, jumping around while still flat like a roadkill, and even killed a couple of mobs with an invisible flamethrower. It laughed so hard I hurt my jaw.
Asura and Charr are among the best race designs I have ever seen in an MMO. Big part of that is them not being “humans with strange heads”, and therefore, for their females not having absurd, unnecesary and cliche breasts.
Well, IMO they still should spare some manpower to acknowledge this area of the game. Basic character movement, weapon attacks, emotes and other similar animations really would improve with some polish and expansion.
I understand the resources are finite. But these are the details that make the whole feel alive in the first place.
1870 is right. In fact I even use an automatic stunbreaker in my build. So the problem is OP assumes he knows about Engie’s access to stab, but probably have not actualized his data.
Pre-purchase gave me and those that bought it beta weekend access. IMO it was a huge difference from pre-order.
People can’t simply run at you without worrying about cc anymore. I think that is a worthy change.
“Whole Chak Hive” pet then.
I support the OP general opinion.
HoT maps are interesting, complex, multidimentional, challenging and mostly BEAUTIFUL.
To some degree I agree with you Kerin about Tangled Depths, but I really think the problem is not the map, but the distribution and amount of events available. I really enjoy simply walking/running/gliding though TD. I just enjoy it less when I need to go somewhere fast.
Maybe he had a flamethrower?
While I know I’m necrorising this thread, I think the suggestion appears often enough to have a good represetnative discussion in the front of the forums.
(I have found at least another 6 less interesting threads covering this subject, and people also ask periodically for emotes in all the “new ideas”, “new gemstore items” and “missing stuff” ones).
What I would like to discuss today is this quote from Regina B, taken from the “dev Quotes from Reddit” thread.
Regina BGimmeSylvari…
Also, seeing that the animators do such a great job in GW2, why can’t we get more emotes ? (Could even be a gemstore thing, as long as it’s not a book thingie that we have to take everywhere, but something that unlocks new emote commands instead ?)…
Resources and priority comes up with animation and emotes as well. Yes, we can technically create new emotes, but they need to be prioritized over other needs. Do new player emotes take priority over animation for creatures in (as an example) the next raid? If game directors believe that this is a good use of our limited resources, then then this would be prioritized and resources would be allocated accordingly. It would be awesome to have new player-character emotes, but we don’t have unlimited animators, and they may have other other priorities that supersede the desire for new emotes.
I would like to answer the hypotetical question from Regina.
YES.
I do think player emotes should take priority over raid animations, for the simple reason that the new emotes will add to the experience of every GW2 player, while raids only affect a group. Emotes also would aid RPs, another group integral to the community, one who ahvent seen any support since a loooong time.
I’m not saying raids are bad. I like them, and I think they add a new aspect to the game that is needed. But I think they should NOT exist at the expense of other much simpler, open to all and fun content.
I also understand Regina is just saying this as an example. But I think the example sounds too specific and real to ignore. I think a relevant company like Anet should be able to split resources for areas so different, but if I’m forced to choose between Emotes and Raids, I DO prefer emotes.
What do you think?
I prepurchased HoT because what they offered sounded great to me. I did wait first, though, for Anet to correct the situation about the “not so clear” marketing strategy (When they allowed refunds for game copys purchased during sales and added the extra character slot for “veteran” players). I don’t regret at all the prepurchase: betas were great, the extra slot was nice, having fun with gliding and testing Revenants and Reapers during their polishing was amazing. While a lot of the new additions have still some issues to solve, I really like HoT. IMO, it is a great product.
That said, I will NOT preorder based on what HoT is. IF I prepurchase the next Expac, it will be, again, based on what Anet offer at that moment.
So, I don’t know. I will know when they begin selling the new Expac, not before.
How do you use the elixir gun with power focus?
IMO anything that weakens the nades gives better chances to the other weapons/kits, so this could be good.
Ok, how bout hardmode is activated by doing some special event or purposefully putting yourself at a disadvantage for bonus loot?
Here are some examples:
An elementalist fight where you have the option to run around the area and destroy the boss’s four pillars (air, water, fire, earth). Doing so weakens the boss. Leaving them up, however, makes the boss stronger or gives additional attacks. Pending on how many you leave up would determine the bonus loot you get.How bout the next fight you have to attack a son of svanir shaman and his totem? You attack the totem when its vulnerable to knock him out of his elemental state in a short time window. But if you are able to actually destroy the totem in one phase, he berserks and gains new abilities plus deals more damage.
Another fight idea attack three mord general bosses at once, and depending on what order you kill them determines the difficulty and loot at the end.
Another boss summons minions that empower the boss, granting new abilities and damage. You can kill the minions or leave them alive, leaving them alive and just killing the boss rewards more loot.
Or another boss that gains charges to a max of 10, increasing his damage and defence, and moving him over to some spot and activating a device removes all of them for a time being. Killing him with 10 up rewards more loot.
All of these are great ideas.
TexZero, sorry to say this, but skill level IS a gate. As it is smart organization. And available play time. (And they are perfectly valid, correct and valuable gates. No one should get everything, and better players should get better and unique rewards.)
But you also shouldn’t deny the more general content to people who can’t fulfill those exigences. Everything lore related that happens after the Vale Guardian is, efectively, closed to people that can’t beat the boss because of skill, time or socialization restraints. IMO that IS a mistake.
This Tengu.
E’s passed on! This tengu is no more! He has ceased to be! ’E’s expired and gone to meet ‘is maker! ’E’s a stiff! Bereft of life, ‘e rests in peace! If you hadn’t nailed ‘im to the perch ’e’d be pushing up the daisies! ‘Is metabolic processes are now ’istory! ’E’s off the twig! ’E’s kicked the bucket, ’e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-TENGU!!
The purpose of an easy mode is to allow the most people possible the access to content that shouldn’t be exclusive and only available to hardcore players, like story, lore, exploration, and the boss fight itself.
The purpose of a hard mode is to make things truly challenging, and to gate content that should be truly exclusive and only available to a fistfull of really awesome players, like legendary items, skins, achievements and titles.
At 80 AND after unlocking Herald. Not hard, but not so quick…
All but the highest/most exclusive rewards should be available for everyone in some way. Specially the story. So yes, I think an “easy” less deep and much less rewarding mode is needed for the raids.
Awesome idea. I need to put more than 15 characters in this message, so I will use them to applaud.
My girl also hates when I craft there because those pipes. I barely mind them, but, for the same reason, I don’t think them are really necesary.
Function Gyro is 99,5% useless in PvE.
No. It takes some time to learn how and when to use it, but it truly is a gift in PvE. You can resurrect players far away, or double the resurrection speed. You can resurrect two people at the same time and even go into stealth while the gyro keeps doing his job. The gyro does not ask if there is an AoE in the way and it not runs away when the HP go down. Even if a partymember is downed inside an AoE, you can simply send the gyro to buy some time.
I use it mostly in fractals, dungeons and HoT maps. But again, it took me months to use it that way.
Ok, you are right.
It’s only 95,5% useless in PvE.
Reddit is not organized around this game. To communicate there about it makes no sense. Unless there is effectively some kind of regulation involved.
To make clear my point, I don’t say there is some kind of watchdog activelly controlling what the Devs post here or on Reddit. I believe there is some kind of RULE written somewhere that make saying things here a more serious deal than there.
Imaginary example: “No developer will discuss game development details in the official forums without explicit authorization from the Public Image Comitee”. I know in my line of work stupid rules like that often exist: since the comitee is composed of 9 people with hard-to-match schedules, the authorization can’t happen unless there is a really big disaster, and anyone who want to keep their work will not risk breaking the rule. Since the rule only applies to the “official” forums, people can dicuss safely anywere else. Bad policy design leads to weird company behaviour.
I don’t know if that is the case with Anet… but it sure looks like it is.
International priority.
Looks like just another bookah to me.
Come on. You need to put more attention to the latest discoveries in phrenology. This is clearly a different bookah.
Interesting designs, but none goes well with my chars. I’ll wait.
Function Gyro is 99,5% useless in PvE.
This forum is probably controlled by some kind of internal regulation. To make sure nothing said by the devs here violates such regulation, they choose to watch this forum from afar instead of use it.
The problem is not the forum, but the regulation: they are afraid of declaring anything “officially”. Reddit provides a form of “grey area” where they can speak without fear of internal retaliation, and without full official commitment.
IMO, they need to fix both ends: the official forum needs to be the place for all the communications, the lightheearted jokes, the intense analisis dialogues, and the legal pledges. All of them needs to be official, not only the unalterable ones.
And of course, the platform for the communication needs to be vastly improved.
I’m as old as the cinematic Superman. Or Conan the Future Boy. Or Grease.
Taimi is great as she is.
About the “ratio”: Really?.
Watch most movies, read most books, play most games. You’ll find the “ratio” in the vast majority (specially in the fantasy genre) of them is at least 3 males for every female. Now you have two options:
- Consider the Destiny’s Newcomers “ratio” as a response to that “imbalance”, and therefore right.
- Consider “ratios” as something really unimportant, and therefore stop being worried abut it.
DPS=/= Power damage.
DPS applies both to Condi and Power Builds.
But for Herald he needs to do a lot of HoT conten before even unlocking the spec.
Walder: If you are just beggining, the first thing you need is to get a mentor to explain you the basics, or do a bit of research to understand the basics on your own. Also, you’ll need to test how far is your disability limiting your gameplay.
My reccomendation:
Began with a Ranger, then locate a juvenile bear and buy a long bow as soon as possible. You’ll be using the bear to tank for you, while you kill the mobs from afar with the bow. (This is a classic basic build known as Bearbow).
Practice dodging with double tapping “wasd” keys. If you can’t do it reliably, then remap the dodge to some key that is easier for you. Remeber you can dodge back, and through your enemies too.
As pointed before, simple movement can be done by pressing both mouse keys or toggled by pressing “r” if you have trouble with the “wasd” buttons.
Jumping is also important, so you need to practice with the spacebar to test your limits. In this game taping the spacebar makes you jump the same as maintaining the spacebar pressed. Train yourself to not keep the spacebar pressed, because after 80, you’ll use this to activate the glider autodeploy.
Personally, I remapped most of the skill commands to be close to “wasd”, so I can active any skill using my index or thumb without need of moving my hands over the keyboard.
Guys. Guys. This game…
How in the name of anything that is holy can someone design mechanics so wicked? Why? What for!!!?
Just this morning I was happily leveling my cooking craft line, laboriously transforming “Onions” into multiple “Onion Slice” with one of these simple weapons you can put in the shelves of your home instance and use as tools sometimes. The process is very unfriendly, because the “Onions” apply multiple stacks of blind on you, but I wanted really bad the “Cooking Husband” title so I kept going.
Then I glitched and instead of another “Onion Slice” I obtained “Small Player Piece”. At first I was perplexed. What in the world is a “Small Player Piece” (It was really gross, by the way)?. Then I noticed a bunch of red dye everywhere, and that I had a pulsing “Pain” condition, and also several stacks of “Bleed”. And my hand model had the most strange clipping artifact, like it was transparent in the end. The “Small Player Piece” was my own!
I was convinced there was an stealthed mob in the instance, because just the prior dark cycle I had a terrifying fight with a fast venomous Spider in the bathroom instance close by, but no matter how much I revised the place I couldn’t find anything.
In the end, after losing more than 3 hours and a gigantic amount of gold to get the “Small Player Piece” attached to my hand again, I calmed down enough to think about the events, and close the eyes to revise the combat log.
Then I found it.

I thought it was a bug at first, and did some research to find what was being done to solve it, but the mods always said simply “Working as intended”. Then I understood it was part of the basic mechanics!
WHY!? How can the devs be so evil that they include an option where you can attack yourself? THE GAME IS PVP EVEN WHEN YOU ARE ALONE!!!!
I tell you guys. Outside is pure evil. Like a Troll-Game, or something like that.
Watch yourselves and good luck.
OP assumes everyone knows how Seifer looks. Only with that knowledge you can see the image shows an INCOMPLETE Seifer outfit, made with heavy armor pieces, but lacking the last fundamental item, wich you couldn’t find in the heavy skins available.
IMO, if you want to make a Seifer lookalike you should have made a mid armor character, probably a thief (sord+pistol, do you see?)
“So we needed something new to continue to grow in the future.” = They needed something they could capitalize on that required minimal effort to maximize profit.
Where are these new cheaper and easier to collect armor skins? Without purchasing HoT you got a total of One new armor set.
I think they weren’t refering to new armor skins, but plainly and shamelessly to outfits.
“Making separate pieces that look the same in every armor weight tier is too hard, so we will make full body, fixed skins instead. Instead of giving you pieces to mix and match, we hope you can be happy just looking the same as anyone else that use it. We will also stop selling separate pieces, so if you really want to try something new, you better buy these new outfits. They will not help you be more creative or unique, but they are more detailed, and cheap! Buy!”
I vote for puting the race discussion aside from this thread. Please lets hear people’s wishlists instead?
My personal wishlist for GW2 next year(s), from most to least important(To ME, of course):
- A real, PvE valid and truly impactul Elite Spec Mechanic for Scrapper.
- RP specific aid functions and tools, including “RP map preference checkbox” and tons of new emotes.
- Lore imbued, storyline coherent and properly animated/playable explanation for the Revenant timeline phenomena, the sudden development of gliding, and the concrete birth of every Elite Spec.
- Bigger (Visible!) weapons for Asura.
- Reworked Gyros without AI.
- Head and foot gear fixed to correctly match Asura and Charr anatomies.
- Fully reworked, gliding-allowing and megaserver fixed WvW.
- Voice customization for the playable character.
- Pets who don’t forget their names.
- Multiple medium armor sets without trenchcoats.
- Multiple light armor sets without buttcapes.
- New playable race: Steam Creatures, with a proper lore, PS line and coherent explanation.
- New weapon type: Chains or Boomerangs.
- Improved aquatic combat and proper drowning. Breathers become relevant.
- How to dance vol 2.
- Raptor, Chak and Karka pets.
- New armor piece: Belts.
- Fun version of the final battle against Zaithan.
- Customizable Home Instance.
The problem is not Anet couldn’t make Dotanuki, Sabers, Flexible Chinese Swords, Nagamakis, Laser Sabers, Rapiers, Scimitars, Machetes and Gladius into whole different weapons. They COULD do it.
The problem is there is no point in doing that, because all of them are still too close.
Actual skills in GW2 barely recognize the real differences between weapons, and certainly don’t even try to remain close to their actual general purposes (In the name of whatever is holy, Mesmer GS is a RANGED weapon!!).
With this approuch to weapon + skill design, new weapons need not to be specific varieties of actually present broader types, but completely different things. That is why chains, “flying” weapons, fists and “two handed magical devices” come to mind first and as more relevant solutions than big axes or small hammers.
They need to better balance the different proffessions. Aside from that, Downed State is (desperately) fun and well.
I think Norns just can’t stand to see the sky below them.
Thanks for giving us info in the official forums for once. Thank you thank you thank you.
Please consider the Roleplaying community in your fixes too. We are still here, despite the terrible blow the megaserver system meant for us.
It is not so much to ask. It is still not important from a whole game scope.
