HoT new weapons/new specializations

Thief isn’t confirmed, that could have been an Engineer.

Engineers don’t tend to wear face masks or skin-tight leather, so im assuming its a Thief, like the other 90% of the community. If so, and it is an Engineer who’s just really out of character, the only other weapon i’d think the thief would get besides rifle is torch, or mace.

Types of masteries!

Argon.1563

I would like to see some kind of a mobility-style mastery, such as rock climbing, or parkour, so we can get up to those hidden areas ArenaNet were talking about at PAX.

and I would like to see features in areas which make them impassable, such as being unable to pass a desert in the Maguuma Wastes because its too hot, or later in the game, when we get to go to colder areas, an area which is impassable due to extreme cold or snow storms, so i’d like masteries to negate that effect such as desert training, or tundra training.

Argon.1563

Colin confirmed in an interview, there will be no new weapons, so no land-spear unfortunately. Heres what we know concerning specialization weapons so far, and what will come in my opinion.

Ranger – Staff – Confirmed by ArenaNet at PAX South
Necromancer – Greatsword – Confirmed by ArenaNet at PAX South
Engineer – Hammer – Seen in HoT trailer
Thief – Rifle – Seen in HoT trailer
Mesmer – Shield – Seen in HoT trailer

My opinions on ones we haven’t spotted yet.

Warrior – I think either pistols or daggers, focused around sustained damage, because lets face it, Warrior is only useful for burst DPS.

Guardian – Longbow please. They have no 1200 range weapon.

Elementalist – In the trailer, we see a light armour character with a sword, but its possible they could be a Mesmer, but I think sword would be the most appropriate.

Will NPE be tweaked/reworked in HoT?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Argon.1563

Ive heard from other players that supposedly, NPE is being re-done, so we don’t need to hunt down our traits any more, but I can’t find it written down anywhere.

Is this true?

I haven’t done it myself, because all my characters pre-date the update except for one, but im dreading having the level that character up, along with the Revenant, after hearing all these horror stories about NPE, and looking at some of the tasks and price tags on traits, it seems a bit over-the-top, so I wouldn’t mind it being revamped.

Legendary Weapons - an appeal to ArenaNet

Agrees.

I want things that look humble, yet cool enough to be a legendary, like Predator, Juggernaut, Bolt and Incinerator.

Dreamer, Quip and Moot don’t even look like legendaries to me, they look like seasonal celebration skins or something from an april fools day skin set or something.

Regarding you’re take on how the Charr don’t suit the Revenant because its not fitting, in theory, none of the races are fitting, because we have next to no information about the lore of the Revenant. (yet)

Im sure ArenaNet will come up with something multi-racial enough so I can shoehorn a reasonably lore-friendly backstory for my new Charr.

New legendary skins?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

Ive kept away from legendaries since launch, because I flat out dislike the legendary skins. Joke weapons are a massive no-no, and the ones that aren’t joke weapons, are flashy in the wrong places. For example, things like Incinerator and Predator would look amazing, if it wasn’t for the flame effects. If Incinerator had an actual blade, rather than that plume of flame, and Predator didn’t breathe fire, they would be good looking weapons.

I don’t mind the hilt of a weapon being decorated, but having the blade decorated, in the case of Twilight, Sunrise and Incinerator, just ruins the skin.

First generation of legendaries were mostly joke weapons, and the few that weren’t were too decorated, to the point where it became tacky. Im hoping the second set will contrast this, being a set of feasible weapons, that still look “legendary”, but don’t look over the top. For example, I feel that something like Bonetti’s Rapier could pass as a legendary weapon, because its decorated, and pretty, but its not trying to induce epileptic fits within those who stand around me, nor does it scream “Hello! Im lore/immersion breaking!”

Opinions? Do you want a more humble set of legendaries, or more fun-themed weapons?

If they got hammer, I don’t want it to be another generic CC hammer. I want something else. The Mesmer’s greatsword is unique when compared to the other classes who use greatsword, so hammer should be the same. The whole concept of the Mesmer is channelling magic into melee weapons, and knocking people down like every other hammer user doesn’t seem very magical or creative.

Constant "network errors" crash since update.

Argon.1563

Since the Point of No Return update, ive been getting constant network errors, causing the game to close itself. Ive found it to crash every 1-2 hours, however, it ALWAYS crashes immediately after logging in for the first time in a day, and it ALWAYS crashes when the server reset time comes round.

As far as im aware, my network has not changed at all, the patch for PoNR is the only change, so im assuming this is an issue on ArenaNet’s end.

Details.

Ascended crafting

I can’t remember where I found the quote, but I remember reading that Colin supposedly said something along the lines of, Ascended would be the final tier, and nothing would be added above it, with the exception of Legendary, only things may possibly be added below it in future to add “progression”.

Like Steveway said, GW2 is all about horizonal progression, so the game is literally a giant fashion show, not a mathematics convention about who has the best stats.

Does Rifle still work with condition builds?

in Warrior

Argon.1563

Hell to the no, its pure 100% pure un-adulterated power

Well, thats a terrible shame, considering it was the better of the two long-range weapons. I hate longbow for condition builds, because people slap the tag “condition weapon” on it, because it deals burns…those burns are so short, no amount of +burning% can save it, therefore it is not a condition weapon, because it’s conditions are so short, they might as well not exist.

Thats really annoyed me now. They nerfed the only real long range condition weapon to the death.

Does Rifle still work with condition builds?

Argon.1563

Ive just come back from a break, to find that in the few months ive been gone, Rifle has been nerfed (It was underpowered anyway, so why did AN nerf it?) so now it doesn’t deal bleeding damage any more.

Considering I use a Rifle + Sword/Sword condition build, does it work? Ive thought about it’s viability by using Volley to proc loads of On Crit bleeds, but otherwise, im not really sure.

Any ideas? I really like the rifle, so I don’t appreciate it being nerfed to the point where I feel obligated to use the longbow, which I dislike in terms of functionality and aesthetics, so im desperately trying to find an excuse to save my rifle.

Argon.1563

1. Necromancer – All the hype that states Necromancer is useless, is total bs. I can do the same, if not more sustained DPS than a Warrior with Mainhand Dagger. Also, all 25 of those vulnerability stacks belong to me, along with that perma-CC, and I just revived you with Death Shroud…You’re welcome.

2. Thief – I like you as well. You do lots of lovely DPS, and you heal me with your comfortable, air-conditioned Shadow Refuge. But you’re a bit on the squishy side. Not that it matters, considering you’re healing capability is out-the-kitten, and you can just Shadowstep out of the way of anything nasty.

3. Mesmer – Portal is my friend. Time Warp is my friend. Mesmer is my friend. You also do oddles of DPS.

4. Elementalist – You’re annoying conjured weapons are degrading, but you can kill things, therefore you are my friends. Also, thanks for the 25 might stacks.

5. Guardian – Very balanced. I like the wide variety of stuff the Guardian can do, but they’re too squishy. They get one-shot by conditions due to being on the bottom tier of base-health, so make sure to use Sentinel’s gear or something of that nature.

6. Warrior – I don’t like you. You get hyped because you can DPS…So can every other class…Get out of my house, now. You also have terrible utility, and yellow particle effects are last season.

7. Engineer – You’re my friend, Engineers, but you don’t have the greatest DPS in the world, although you’re good at doing utility things. You’re nice and bulky though, so I don’t have to waste my sanity reviving you, unlike other people. ^w^ Looks at Berserker players

8. Ranger – Sorry, I don’t like you. You’re boring to play, you’re not a team player, you’re obnoxious, and you’re pet isn’t toilet trained. You do nice DPS though, so you can stay here for now.

Basically, I like Necro and Thief, the others are tolerable, except Warrior and Ranger, who need to leave.

Help choosing a warband name

in Charr

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

Faith is an ok Warband name. The warband name is collectively chosen by all the members, as a way to describe them all, as one. For example, you could have the Faith Warband, if all the members have great faith in eachother and their abilities. Faith doesn’t necessarily have to relate to religion.

One other detail, just in-case you’re not aware. Your Warband name can be a suffix, which makes it a bit easier with picking a name you can put with your Warband name. However, all members share the placement of the Warband name. So you would have Faithmist, but you wouldn’t see another member of the same warband with Ironfaith for example, their name would be Faithiron instead, following the pattern.

If you’re still struggling with ideas for non/less threatening Warband names, that still relate to the Charr, heres a few suggestions.
Faith (Putting faith in the legions, in the warband, etc.) Examples: Faithmist, Ironfaith
Spirit (Relates to the Ascalonian Ghosts.) Examples: Spiritchaser, Silentspirit
Sky (The Searing came down upon Ascalon from the sky.) Examples: Skywatcher, Burntsky
Crystal (The Searing crystals, and the Dragonbrand.) Examples: Crystalfur, Hardcrystal
Shield (Protecting the legions, Ascalon, etc.) Examples: Shieldbarer, Thickshield

"Viable"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

The term “unviable” does not exist in GuildWars2. Anybody who thinks you need full berserker Warrior with greatsword to do any content in the game is a kitten ed fool, who just needs to learn the game.

I could walk into any PVE content in the game, and beat it using any build I liked. If you want to do a dungeon with a staff Necromancer using Nomad’s gear and runes of mercy, you could do it, and beat the dungeon without any issues.

The term “unviable” becomes applicable when you’re talking about the players who get a kick out of being able to solo Arah in 3 minutes 26 seconds to beat their high-score or something, which is ok if they enjoy it, and want to play the game like that. For example, to a player who wants to do speed runs and such other things, running anything but “optimized” builds is not appropriate, hence why anything else is “unviable”.

However, for the 90% of players, playing your preferred build is fine, and theres no harm in it, and you can still be “viable”. As long as you don’t die, and whatever you’re fighting goes down, its viable. If you run P/P Thief, and its fun, and you can complete the content you want to complete, its viable, just don’t try to solo Tequatl with it, because im not sure how good it would be for your health.

People throw around the words “viable” and “unviable” as labels for anything and everything, when most of the time, it is out of context. Certain things are unviable in certain contexts, but for the most part, you can run anything and get by.

If you really took 1 year and 2 months to grab 4 maps worth of Pois and vistas, I’ve some bad news for you..

You make it sound so ludicrously easy, but you forgot to mention the bit where Boarderlands used to be allocated differently, which prevented people from getting a lot of stuff for the longest of times, and the bit that involves players attempting to siege areas that may not belong to them, which may or may not be possible, depending on the circumstances.

Now WvW has had a few updates, in the form of Bloodlust and now powerful siege stuff is more widely available such as Golems, its a bit easier to siege most places, but theres still a few hard to get areas such as the keeps, and certain towers in easy to defend places. However, its still pretty hard, depending on how good your server is at WvW, and RNG.

GW2 was only created because ArenaNet had a load of new features planned for GW1, but they were so extreme, they thought it would just be easier to make GW2, so they can be cleanly implemented, and give them a fresh start, so technically, GW2 didn’t need to exist, it exists for the fun of it. In theory, GW1 could’ve kept on going, with no issues for even longer. GW1 was 7 years old when GW2 came out, so GW2 will live for at the very minimum, 7 years, unless something apocalyptic happens, like the entire playerbase quits all at once or something, which is very unlikely.

tl’dr: More than 7 years.

Personally, I think GW2 will go for a little over 7 years, then we’ll see either a major, major revamp/update for GW2, or GW3. GW3 would probably be better economically, for ArenaNet, because GW2 created a lot of publicity and hype for the company, which also attracted a lot of income, and it gives all the players a fresh start, which is always nice and refreshing.

You could take the completionist’s/hardcore route towards it.

Get to 80 on all 8 professions, and deck them with full Ascended equipment.
Reach the stat-cap (WoodenPotatoes has a video on how to do this.)
Get all Legendary Weapons (This might be a bit over-the-top/unobtainable.)
Obtain every non-infinite, non-time-limited achievement. (Minus Skritt Burglar)
Reach Rank 80 in sPvP
Reach Rank 9945 in WvW
Complete the wardrobe (excluding one-time skins that are no longer available.)

Or, if you’re into it, you could explore the lore and storyline of this game. Theres plenty of mysteries that need unravelling, many speculative points that need speculating on, and plenty of stuff to read.

Or, you could give roleplaying a go to see if you like it. Ive met plenty of players who’re in your position, and say that roleplaying really revitalized the game for them, and kept them playing. I know it did for me.

See, theres plenty…Now just finding the motivation and/or time/in-game money to do it…

By Any Other Name (Language)

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

The “Common” language in Tyria is New Krytan, it was designed and popularized by the Durmand Priory, before it was accepted as the official Tyrian language in 1105AE. New Krytan is a mix between the old Ascalonian and old Krytan languages. Its spoken by the 5 playable races, and most of the non-playable races also.

The Asuran had their own language, that went out of use after they had to evacuate the undergrounds and come to the surface for saftey, due to interacting with other races more. I know a guy on Reddit figured out the old Asuran alphabet, but obviously, its not canonized, so it could potentially be wrong.

I guess the Charr would have originally used Old Ascalonian, or some other common language that they would’ve used to communicate with the Ascalonian humans, before they took back Ascalon. Or they could’ve had their own language, which there seems to be no trace of, or none that im aware of, but it would be interesting to see.
