Rytlock, the new Khan-Ur

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

Rytlock is a Tribune, not an Imperator. Only Imperators may attempt to become the Khan-Ur, and I highly doubt Rytlock is willing to challenge Bangar Ruinbringer to become the Blood Imperator, considering Rytlock seems to be avoiding him (hence why he was in Ascalon at the beginning of GW2, rather than the Blood Citadel, displayed when he said he left his warband behind “back east”.) (On a side note, I think Rytlock is avoiding Bangar, because Bangar is the only Charr with the rank high enough to command Rytlock to explain how he got Sohothin, which he wants to keep a secret.)

a Khan-Ur needs to keep all of the legions united at once, for a sustained period of time, which many Charr have attempted in history, but all have failed, because none of the legions get along, and although Rytlock is more liberal, in the way he will converse with other legion members, I highly doubt he can persuade everyone to be cool with each other.

The Khan-Ur also must hold the Claw of The Khan-Ur, a ceremonial weapon, which at the point of “Ghosts of Ascalon” taking place, was in the possession of Smodur The Unflinching, who hinted that he may melt the claw down, so no Khan-Ur can ever be crowned, however, we never discovered if he did this. Ive heard in places he supposedly has it mounted on a plaque in his quarters, but I can’t seem to find any proof for this.

Realistically, we have no idea how Rytlock’s character has progressed since hes been in the mists, except hes gone genocidal and doesn’t trust the Sylvari any more, so we could meet him again in HoT, and he could have no desire to even be part of the legions, let alone be Khan-Ur.

I think the concept of a Khan-Ur could take place in GW2, just not in HoT, because for that storyline to take place, Smodur The Unflinching, Bangar Ruinbringer, and Malice Swordshadow need to be involved, and we’d need to be in Ascalon, and none of those plot points are currently fulfilled. I think the topic could come round, during the Kralkatorrik arc, or in some kind of an auxiliary storyline where we go to the Blood and Ash Legion Homelands, but for now, its extremely unlikely to happen.

I think in HoT, they will pull out a few tricks they’ve sneaked into previous areas like The Silverwastes when it comes to conditions, like, lots of mobs that have the “weak to conditions” treat, like Mordrem Husk Copper.

On a side note, have any of the people that attended PAX East spotted any interesting condi mechanics in the demo? I don’t get to play it until Saturday at Rezzed.

Argon.1563

Thief is the fastest, because it’s skills have no recharge times, unlike other professions, but it instead has to make payment to use it’s skills using Initiative, it’s own currency consumed to activate skills, which will regenerate over time.

In Heart of Thorns, the upcoming expansion pack, a new profession is being released, the Revenant, who will also be a “no recharge” style class, with an energy mechanic to pay for activating skills, so if Thief doesn’t please you, Revenant could be an option when it arrives.

I think pretty much every field besides fire, water and smoke are horribly underpowered. Lightning is nice for swiftness, but only Elementalist gets Lightning, and Revenant will when it releases, which is still a bit too restricted.

I agree, the whole lot needs balancing a lot better, so fields besides fire/water/smoke have a purpose.

Other people that sleep, eat food, etc… have more ascended armor than you. If there is a break in logic here, it’s showing.

If you say so, dear. Last time I checked, CasualWars2 was the game branded as being “no grind” and “the game you can play with a job/career/human needs.”.

I think I might just switch mains to a light or heavy character, because they take ~a third less Damask to make their armour sets, so that might be a bit closer to the realm of reality.

I don’t think it’s Anet’s fault that you aren’t the kind of player suited to make ascended armor.

I think it is, because I like doing things such as going to sleep on time, and turning my computer off, or eating food, or not burning my eyes out because im “farming” silk perpetually.

So, I just began my quest for my ascended gear. I went into my guild bank, and found all the silk I have been hoarding since the beginning of GW2 (If im honest, I saw silk was useless at launch, and I knew ArenaNet were going to do something with it, so I hoarded it.), and I had 3050 pieces of silk…10 bolts of damask…2 years of work…for one third of a light ascended armour set.

At EGX Rezzed this weekend, im going to be asking the devs what they will be doing to fix this mess. Just so ya’ know.

… and you sat looking at the rest of your collected mats thinking “Hey, I could sell these on the TP, and make the money I need to buy the rest of the silk I need for a full set of Ascended armor while silk prices are low”.

You’re welcome.

I was busy using that money on getting 500 crafting, because, you know, thats something you need for ascended crafting, and I never looked into crafting ascended immediately after it came out. Like I said, I only got round to doing it recently.

My fault for waiting, I know, but it shouldn’t be, because of inconsistencies and breaks in logic, on ArenaNet’s part.

Are GW2 IPs IPv4 or IPv6?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

No decent firewall (or “security system”) for home users enforces the explicit enabling of outgoing traffic per IP address as default. Either you activated some advanced settings without knowing what you’re doing, or you don’t have a piece of hardware for home use.

Some parental controls or access profiles in SOHO routers work this way, but you have to explicitly activate this. Look into your router and verify if you perhaps accidently activated some kind of restricted internet access of this kind.

If I have activated some restricted internet thing, what should I be looking for to turn off? What would it be called?

Are GW2 IPs IPv4 or IPv6?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

These are IP4 addresses. If they are seen on a home, work or public network depends on the setup of your local network. Without knowing this, I would say they are on a public network.

Regarding ipv4 vs ipv6 addresses: not to offend you, but anyone with the barest network knowledge will know if an address is ipv4 or ipv6 on first sight. Ipv4 are 4 numbers with 3 dots in between, and the numbers are always 0..255 like this:

1.23.123.34

and ipv6 addresses are numbers (containing 0..9 and characters a..f, this is called hex code) with colons in between like this:

2a01:488:66:1000:57e6:fc1:0:1

Usually an ipv6 address has 7 colons, but they can abbreviated with some abbreviation rules and double colons appear in this case.

This could be looked up in any documentation about the internet for sure.

Thank you for your help, but I checked the GW2 client IP addresses today, and they’ve changed, so it would be pointless to allow them through my firewall, because they would only change again, so I would have to re-permit them.

I think its just easier to get a new security system.

When I refer to the GW2 IPs, I don’t mean the in-game sever IPs, I mean the IPs the game client functions on.

I e-mailed support about this, and they’ve taken an abnormally long amount of time to respond, so I figured ill harass players on the forums also for an answer.

My security system, BT NetProtect Plus is blocking the IP addresses GW2 functions on. The IP addresses are:
64.25.47.119
206.127.159.185
and 206.127.159.77

Ive figured out I can allow IP addresses into my network, but I need to know if the IP addresses are “IPv4” or “IPv6” and if its a “Home, Work or Public” network.

Is anyone aware of this information, or has had a similar problem in the past?

Argon.1563

Considering they’ve announced no meaningful PvE stat overhaul or design changes, and Berserker and Soldier are the best armor sets for literally every profession, it’s pretty obvious what will be better right now.

I agree that Soldier would definitely be better, but im too lazy to and get soldiers stuff, i’d rather just pick one of the Carapace box armours for starting gear, because ive got dozens of carapace boxes from farming Silverwastes, then upgrade to an exotic/ascended set of whatever stat I feel is best after playing Revenant. If I get really bored though, ill just go and grind out a set of exotic soldiers gear in a dungeon beforehand.

I wouldn’t go with Berserker myself, because we don’t know how squishy it will be, and we don’t know how difficult the content in HoT will be. Also, I just don’t want to be playing a brand new profession ive never played before with no defensive investment, because I don’t know how to play it, and ill die constantly without defence. If it turns out Revenant is a walking Great Wall of China, and I learn to play it really well, I wouldn’t mind going to Berserkers for the extra damage.

I understand the purpose behind not giving them certain outfits like the female Noble Count outfit, because it has loads of boob exposure, but the Crystal Nomad outfit in no way, shape or form can be seen as “sexy”, it can almost be seen as the opposite.

Neither of the variations of the outfits have any gender defining features, at all, so why even bother giving this outfit gender variation, then not applying it to all races?

Really, really disappointing. 1 outfit I would be willing to buy, and im genderlocked out of it.

Crystal Nomad Outfit Feedback

Argon.1563

I saw the new “Crystal Nomad Outfit” in the outfit previews today, and I decided to look it up to see if it looked different on other races and genders.

Dulfy link: http://dulfy.net/2015/02/25/gw2-upcoming-gemstore-items-from-feb-24-patch/

Look at the first lady shown wearing the outfit. I think its a norn female. Why is the norn female one prettier than everybody else’s?

Its got that nice asymmetrical dress bit on the bottom, its got a clean, uncluttered torso area, and on the right leg, where the draping cloth doesn’t covered, its got a nice set of cloth tassels that hang on that side to balance it out, yet ArenaNet made a different version for everybody else?

If the norn female’s variation was copied for everyone, or even just other females from different races, I could buy it, it looks like an outfit that could feasibly be used in battle, while looking good, but everybody else gets a cumbersome skirt, with a chest area cluttered by glass bottles.

ArenaNet could even publish them as two different outfits. More revenue for them, more outfits for us. Everybody would be happy, rich, and good looking.
“Crystal Nomad Outfit – Glass bottle battle skirt edition”
“Crystal Nomad Outfit – Pretty one-side skirt with fancy tassels edition”

I want the norn female’s version for my female Charr Revenant when she arrives in Heart of Thorns. If we could get that, I would totally buy it. Give the male Charr the current one if you want, but please make the female Charr’s one the same design as the female Norn’s.

Considering its not out yet, I won’t freak out too much, in the hope that the Charr female’s being the same as the male is just a placeholder thing while they develop it, because normally, when an outfit in non-unisex, the female Charr get the female version, the same as all other races. Make me proud (and fabulous) ArenaNet, and ill pay your coffee bill for a week using my gem money for that outfit.

Balthazar Outfit - thanks!!!

Argon.1563

Yeah, why can’t we use the individual pieces? What a waste. Maybe it’s more effort to make the pieces separate but ultimately they make more money in the end.

Its less effort on their part to make outfits, because they don’t have to worry about clipping with other armours, and because they don’t have to make dye channels for each piece individually, they can just dye channel the whole thing as 1 piece.

Not “V.simple”

Your race has multiple implications that directly effect the game in very complex ways, mainly your character biography and your personal story.

The only way ArenaNet could add a race changer, is if it reset your personal story to the first chapter, and also reset your character to level 0, and undid their entire existence, to redo the character biography.

I think its a lot faster and convenient myself to just make a new character.

You get 2 dodges. If the boss decides to attack for a 3rd time, you die.

Blinds are a valid point though. Its possible to become pretty much immortal with a full blind build.

Q: Confused about how the servers work?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

GW2 has a Megaserver. This means that everybody, regardless of server gets lumped into the same map, but obviously, when that map gets full, it opens a new instance of the map, and lets more players in. The blue mushroom buff is when the amount of players in a map decreases to a point where there is no point to keep it open, so the map will send you that message, offering you the buff in exchange for leaving, so it can close the empty map.

How people get put into different instances of the map is random, but if you are a party member, your chance to be put in the same instance increases dramatically, you can also right-click their portrait in the party sidebar, and click “Join player in…”

Because of this, its possible to have players from any server in a guild, and they will all be able to play with each other without issue.

The only restrictions on servers are: Players from North America and Europe cannot play with each other, and you cannot join WvW with a player who is not on your server. (Guesting does not work, their home server must be the same as yours to play WvW with you.)

If you think you can do the task for a trait, try to get it though that method. Always best to do it for free if possible.

Concerning you gear, it depends on what stat combinations you want. Refer to this page for a full list of stat combinations, and their acquisition: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats

I would say traits are more important than gear myself, because you can succeed in most just using sub-80 gear, unless you go for high level dungeons and such.

I was reading your post, and I thought “Oh, this guy is totally a Thief. Ill tell him to play Thief.” then I read you already have one at level 80.

Necro – Its very balanced, but its got about as much mobility as a quadriplegic who has been tranquillized and is being repetitively stun gunned. It does have the best “oh ****” button in the game though, in the form of Death Shroud. Its’ mechanics aren’t exactly the most amazing things in terms of enjoyment value, but it gets the job done, its a very powerful profession if played right.

Mesmer – No mobility. None. Its disabled…Unless you count Blink, which has a horrific recharge time for what it does. Also. squishy. Quite fun to play though.

Engineer – Sounds like it would suit you the most. It has a lot of mobility. I wouldn’t say as much as Thief, but its up there. Its also balanced in the sense that you can do a lot of builds with it that do lots of things, which creates a rather well rounded character. Only thing is, I find it dreadfully boring. You mind find otherwise, because it is a very niche profession, so not everybody enjoys it, but its just one of those professions you have to try to figure out if you like it. I always looked at Engineer thinking it was amazing, then I played it, and realized ill kill myself before levelling one to 80.

Why is silk going up in price?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

Sounds to me like two independent issues being discussed.
1. Aggregate price for silk and market velocity
2. Farming for individual mats is hard

I would argue that these issues aren’t actually related and shouldn’t be discussed as if they were.

I suppose they’re related in a way, because the silk price is related to the saturation of silk the market, which is derived from it’s difficulty to farm.

I feel the main point of this thread is “Silk requirement for Damask is too high. Tone it down to be on-par with the other ascended materials.” OR “Give us silk worm nodes to farm silk from.”

The price of silk would be acceptable, if we only needed 150 silk instead of 300, but unfortunately that is not the case, and there is no way to regularly farm silk, besides sacrificing goats to RNG and hoping you get light armour drops to salvage.

The overall topic is still the same: Silk is an absolute mess at the moment, and something needs to be done about it, and theres a few realistic ways to do that.

Axe the amount of silk required for Damask. (Least effort on developer’s part.)

Tamper with the trading post to bring the price down. (short term fix.)

Silk worm nodes. (Most effort for devs, but probably the best long term solution if ArenaNet feels the unnaturally high requirement of silk for Damask is warranted.)

For a long time, Berserker has been looking shady for open world content. It started getting sketchy to run it around the time of the Tequatl Rising update, and from then on, more content has been released that has made it less viable. Now we’ve seen the stuff in HoT, if I see anybody in my open world parties to do world bosses/events running Berserker, in HoT, they’re getting kicked. Im not picking up corpses off the floor for half of HoT.

I think Berserker will still be good in dungeons, but for open world content: Not appropriate, not viable, buy a real armour set.
