Post HoT - Cleaning up the mess?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Argon.1563

So far, Mordremoth has destroyed Concordia, Fort Salma and Monger’s Sink, while destroying a few dozen waypoints along the way, leaving ugly vines where ever it goes, and there will be more untold damage throughout HoT.

After Mordy is dead, will there be an operation to revert this damage by cutting down the vines, and rebuilding the destroyed areas? While im all for the philosophy of permanent change to world, im just concerned that by the time we finish off the 6th dragon, the world will look like a post-apocalyptic wasteland, with bits of stale dragon paraphernalia dotting the landscape.

Like the situation with Orr, its supposedly being “cleaned up” by destroying the remainder of Zhaitan’s forces, while the continent slowly cleanses itself. Will a similar operation occur after HoT?

secret mesmer society

Argon.1563

We know Anise and Kasmeer are members of The Mesmer Collective and that they supposedly hold the most powerful secrets of the Mesmer profession, which are kept hidden from outsiders.

A lot of players speculate its not really an official thing, and it was only made to give Kasmeer a reason to enter into the Tower of Nightmares story arc, but the fact ArenaNet keeps slipping it into dialogue with NPCs over the course of the Living World patches, its likely it will amount to something big eventually.

Argon.1563

Im curious towards if Rytlock is just a base Revenant, of if he has the Revenant’s Elite Specialization active or not.

I think either Jory or Kas dying is a bit obvious, so i’d quite like to think something happens to Kas, so Jory gets really angry, goes psycho “movie monster” mode and turns into a Reaper.

I would also love to see the Chronomancer be used as a plot device to shed more like on The Mesmer Collective. Maybe the origin of the Chronomancer is something the Collective has kept secret, and they feel it necessary to reveal it to defeat Mordremoth, allowing Kasmeer to learn it’s magic.

Why are all races thinking like humans?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

Theres plenty of ways to differentiate the cultures, and design purposes of the races. If I put a human building, a Charr building, and an Asuran building next to each other, you think those are the same? Use your eyes.

The fundamental concept of a building isn’t even human to begin with, its just something all living things do. Birds make nests, rabbits dig burrows, humans build houses. They’re all the same thing, and fufill the same purpose, they house the inhabitant.

Asurans are a subterranean race by nature, hence why they build from stone. Kryta has a lot of trees to build with, along with lots of watery areas to collect clay from, hence why they build from stone, bricks and wood. In Ascalon, there are less trees, hence why Charr prefer to build from metal.

Even in the designs of their buildings, you can see why they are designed the way they are, reflecting their culture. Humans build with the intention of a building being luxurious and comfortable because they value those things, while Charr buildings are minimal and functional, to reflect their industrious, functionality-based culture.

and The Black Citadel probably feels “human” to you, because in real life, humans were the progenitors of industry, design and production, whereas in Tyria, that was created by the Charr, and the humans of Tyria see industrialism as a Charr thing when they look at their machines, guns and automated products.

Asuran female’s clothes have breast pockets because…ArenaNet’s budget…but if you want a lore reason: Maybe Asuran females develop breasts while pregnant, so they design clothes with breast areas to cater for that. Charr women don’t cover their breasts, unless its with armour to defend themselves, because again, they’re a race based on functionality: a breast’s functional value is to be a lump of fat on the chest that creates milk to feed young. They don’t have the superficial, sissy value of “Oh noe, hide private parts.”

Sylvari are human to the very bone. Just in-case you didn’t know, The Pale Tree was planted on top of the burial ground in which humans were buried, so when the tree grew, it copied the way in which the human body was structured, which is likely also the reason why the Sylvari think in a very “human” manor…The tree also did this to dogs that were buried there also, hence why Sylvan Hounds exist.

The way in which each race acts is very different to me, based on their drives, and values, so im not sure why you think they’re the same.

Asurans value intelligence, creativity and convenience.
Humans value sociability, comfort/luxury and meritocracy.
Charr value strength, comradeship and determination.
The list goes on.

Obviously the races of Tyria are slowly blending together, because the world is very multi-cultural now, considering the races of Tyria collectively speak and write a single language (New Krytan), whereas hundreds of years ago, they would have spoken their own languages, and even their design processes are becoming one in the way we see The Pact developing technology based upon the influence of all races. I wouldn’t be surprised if eventually, Lion’s Arch was rebuilt in the “Pact Fleet” style using the input of all the races, like we see with the Pact Airships and Pact Fleet weaponry.

Have a nice day.

What happens to Orr?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

They have a lore reason to keep it the way it is – Apparantly, the “cleaning of Orr” isn’t instantaneous, its a process that takes a long period of time, and Zhaitan’s forces didn’t immediately dissipate upon his death, explaining why his minions still live.

Realistically, it could take decades for Orr to cleanse itself. I think Orr will just be left as it is, with the backstory narrative of “Its slowly cleansing itself”. Considering GW2 could potentially last for decades, its all covered. If anything ever happens to GW2, and we go to a GW3, then if ArenaNet makes a time gap between the two games, THEN Orr will be cleansed, but right now, they have a valid lore reason to leave it the way it is in GW2.

Ive decided I want to go back and play GW1 to do the Hall of Monuments, but ive never played GW1 before, but im not sure about what basic choices I should make prior to beginning.

Does it matter what profession I choose? Ive been debating on choosing Necromancer for my GW1 character, because I main Necromancer in GW2, and i’d quite like see where my Necromantic brethren came from 250 years ago.

When I unlock subclasses/secondary class, is there any good way to tell which one I should select?

Should I do the campaigns/expansions in any particular order? Or should I just take the obvious route and go in the order in which they were released?

I don’t think theres anything wrong with Warrior’s dual swords, its the issue with the GW2 PVE elitist groups that run round only using Axe MH and GS.

If you want to use dual swords, use it, and tell them to know their place. Nobody has the right to tell you what build to use. I myself use dual sword Warrior in PVE and have absolutely no issues. Conditions are also getting buffed in HoT, so even better.

I don’t think Revenant will have dual swords, because it hasn’t been given any other dual wield weapons (yet), but I think Sword/Axe on Revenant will be a popular direct damage combination.

ArenaNet should only use RNG for petty drop tables, like T1-6 crafting materials and such other things, but major items should be obtained via the collection system, or other system in which the player can 100% obtain it after a certain amount of things have been done (Example: Carapace armour.)

I would like some major gay male npcs

in Lore

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

I think the only reason the whole “Sylvari date whoever they want” thing to provoke the relationship of Caithe and Faolain was just to point out the fact no LGBT characters existed at the time in popular games, whereas now, a whole multitude of games have LGBT characters.

I think a lot of the issue with people saying “We want LGBT characters”, comes down to the fact, most characters in the game haven’t even stated their sexuality. People are assuming all characters who haven’t displayed their sexuality are heterosexual, which simply might not be true. For all we know, Rytlock could be gay, which is why he hasn’t had any cubs despite being a slightly older Charr, and Jennah could be a lesbian, which is why she hasn’t produced an heir to her throne yet. We simply don’t know.

Its something I come across in RP quite a lot. A lot of people say to me “What sexuality is your character?” and I reply. “Who cares, until he wants to date somebody, nobody needs to know.”. Its the lore writer’s business concerning who-likes-who, and until they want to throw us that information, who cares.

On a side note, as a gay male, I do enjoy seeing homosexual couples in my media, because a man and a man, or a woman and a woman is what I see as normal, so I get that silly, warm “awh, thats cute”, feeling when I see homosexual romance in media because I can relate to it, whereas that doesn’t happen to me when I see a heterosexual couple.

On the topic of “Why is there no homophobia in Tyria”, I think the denizens of Tyria are a lot less wimpy than the people in the real-world. Considering they’re facing a potential apocalypse via Elder Dragon, I don’t think they really care about what gender their friend is into. They have bigger things to worry about, whereas people in the real world, have too much time on their hands, to formulate ways to be nasty to eachother. and take into account the vast majority of characters we meet in the GW2 storyline are soldiers in one form or another, and generally soldiers are more focused on reaching their goal (in this case, killing the Elder Dragons), rather than being focused on who they’re achieving that goal alongside.

Chronomancer Lore

in Lore

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

As many of us know, Chronomancer was the “class that never was” of GW1. It was intended to be added, but got cut, so maybe they’ll integrate that into the lore of the GW2 Chronomancer, by setting it up as some super-rare branch of Mesmeric magic that never saw mainsteam use, due to being sealed into the Heart of Maguuma, where nobody has been for over 250 years, then the player character goes and finds it, and learns to control it, becoming a Chronomancer.

Using Mesmer/Chronomancer is a bit of a bad example, because all of Mesmer’s core specs are pretty bad, while Chronomancer is an obvious choice, so im sure nobody will have any issues with sacrificing a traitline to activate Chronomancer.

I think the really hard decision will come with Elementalist/Tempest, because pretty much every PVE Ele will choose Air/Water/Arcana, and all 3 of those are quite integral core specs, so it will be quite hard deciding which to drop when becoming a Tempest.

Apparently my thousands of hours online, hundreds of pounds spent in the gemstore and help in beta testing the original game doesn’t constitute me as an active, “loyal” player (which is insulting as kitten.)

Now ive been grinding every day for nearly a week in SW, trying for this infernal portal drop, rather than playing content I enjoy. SW was fun when it first came out, but after spending nearly 200 hours in there for my Bioluminescence Achievement, I literally wanted to get on my knees and cry when I was told I had to sit in there to grind for a beta portal. Dry Top, I never enjoyed, it was annoying and confusing to navigate, and it just never appealed to me, so I wasn’t going to go there at all.

Just let us pay to get into the beta, like we did for the original GW2 beta, because this is just ridiculous now. Take the money, and either use to develop HoT, or pay for the daily coffee. I just want a guaranteed beta slot, because all of these nasty RNG systems are beginning to grate on me.

Ive always seen caster characters in games described as “Tempests” to be storm mages (Water+Air/Lightning magic), so maybe its a hint that instead of singular elemental attunements, Tempest will wield combination attunements.

So instead of Fire, Water, Air and Earth, we’ll have:
Storm (Water+Air)
Lava (Fire+Earth)
Sand (Earth + Air)
Steam (Fire+Water)

Or any other elemental combinations people can think of. Smoke(Fire+Air), Mud (Water+Earth). Who knows.

While I agree with your point, because many people need to stockpile money in advance, it categorically will not be more than £50, because that was GW2’s original price, and its just not possible for an expansion to exceed that price.

Just tuck £50 away. If anything, it will inflate your interest percentage while it sits in your bank, during the wait for HoT.

How I see it is: This is the 1st week of Specializations. There will be 8 more weeks of specializations, then E3 is immediately after, where I personally believe they will drop the price and release date of HoT. There is 56 days in those 8 weeks. Save £1 per day, and you’ll be set for HoT by the time E3 comes.

Mesmer's second health bar

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Argon.1563

Argon.1563

I wouldn’t call it a second health bar myself.

Using Continuum Split is more of a way to negate death memorially, with a small chance to turn the battle round. I think its more comparable to a Warrior using Endure Pain just before its about to die, in which time they could stun me and heal up. The same applies to Chronomancer.

and like Rob said, using Continuum Split/Shift is a double edged sword, in the sense it carries a high cooldown, as well as the fact the Continuum Rift can be destroyed by enemies, which will automatically activate Continuum Shift.

Not so much a second health bar, more a “Im going to avoid death for a few more seconds, hoping I can heal.” style tactic, akin to Endure Pain, Unholy Sanctuary, etc.

Quality of gemstore items decreasing

At launch, and for the subsequent year, we had amazing armour sets, that could be mixed and matched with any other armour in the game, and dyed freely.

Then we got “outfits” that couldn’t be mixed with other armour sets and had crippling restrictions depending on your race and gender (Example, female Charr/Asura getting shoehorned the male versions.)

Now we have the Balthazar outfit…an outfit that cannot be mixed with other armours, an untextured neck, so the head floats, and 50% of the outfit cannot be dyed (the fire texture). and a red panda made of cardboard.

I wanted to dye the fire texture white and give it to my Revenant when she arrives in HoT, but no, looks like that won’t be happening. I wasn’t overly bothered about this being an outfit that cannot be mixed with other armours because it looks good as a whole set, but colour-locking it is a joke. Whats next, outfits that cannot be mixed with other armour sets, and are completely colour-locked?

Harsh, yes, but since launch, the quality of gemstore items has been decreasing, and it needs to be pointed out.

He said he likes to watch the in-game economy, and he does recognize that Elonian Leather is too cheap, and Bolts of Damask are too expensive to produce. I’m selfish and don’t wanna share this build.

I to, have created monstrously powerful builds (not necessarily Mesmer), that the “meta” players haven’t discovered, because they’re still fumbling round with their “optimized” GS Warrior builds, which I choose not to share, because im evil.

I don’t know. I feel like with Shiro being confirmed, I have a hard time believing they won’t have a sword offhand, but I guess you never really know. Time will tell!

But He used Daggers not swords.

On a logistical level, his weapons were daggers, but they were modelled as swords. I suppose its like saying something like “Charrzooka isn’t a rifle, its a cannon.”. What something is, and what it is modelled as are two different things, and considering how GW2 weapons work differently to GW1 weapons, swords are the best fit to re-create his character, because they face forward (GW2 daggers face backwards), and they have the length to recreate his blades, whereas most daggers in GW2 are short, stubby little things.

Why would they ever put this into the game when they know dataminers exist. I don’t even understand.

Unless the beta isn’t running on a different version of the client, but that would be an… odd choice.

Because of how the game is produced, and many other games, they can’t introduce all the files all at once, because it will cause huge issues, so its better to install it piece by piece over a series of updates, so it doesn’t cause an apocalypse or something.
