If Elonian was more expensive […]
Whoa, stop.
You know what happened the last time people complained about a certain crafting material being too cheap? Damask happened.
If they “fix” Elonian prices, it will be to double the materials required for the Elonian cord recipe, nerf the drop rate of medium armor, and add Elonian squares to all recipes to jack up demand. Then we’ll have people complaining about Damask and Elonian.
Im not talking about just outright making Elonian more expensive, as I mentioned several times, I also said the price of Damask should be lowered, so they reach an equilibrium, where light, medium and heavy are similar(ish) in a price, to get rid of the 300g price difference between the sets.
Didn’t they say that they’re fine with cloth prices in general?
John Smith is the one who said he was ok with cloth prices on the forums, in big thread about the price of silk, while loads of players were in there talking about how they didn’t like the price of silk/damask, and his simple reply to everything was “I don’t agree with that.”, which doesn’t help at all, while hes surrounded by players talking about how they feel punished for playing light armour characters, and how they feel obligated to switch mains to a medium or heavy character so they can afford to do high level fractals.
Its a discussion that is 19 pages long, and it achieves nothing.
Thread link: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Why-is-silk-going-up-in-price/first
I’d just like to point out though, it doesn’t speak for ArenaNet’s opinion as a collective whole. At certain events over time, when ive spoken to devs, there are ones who feel Damask is too expensive, and Elonian is too cheap, which gives hope for change.
I’ve crafted 7 full sets of ascended armor and weapons and haven’t purchased a single mat. I had so much extra damask laying around that I used it to purchase a precursor.
The price seems fine. Never shelled out any money for gear.If you want the gear now, you have to pay for it. If you make it all yourself, you don’t.
The prices seem fine.
So the thousands of people who struggle to get ascended armour sets are liars, and you’re correct, despite the fact you’re in the minority of players who can pull ascended items out of thin air? If they’re so redundantly easy to get for you, send me a set in the post, thanks.
I know more people who say they struggle to get ascended armor than don’t. The price isn’t fine for light armor characters. Its true that Medium and Heavy sets can be acquired with a bit of effort, but the light armours are just ridiculous.
Its great that you have loads of free time to make multiple ascended armour sets with, but i’d be quite happy with 1 set myself, so I can go into higher level fractals, the content I enjoy. The thing is with real life commitments, it gets difficult trying to produce money, or materials to get a hold of the Damask on a reasonable time-scale.
I think if they make the requirements to make light med heavy all the same, it would alleviate some of the burden. make requirements along the lines of heavy armor and that should balance it out. damask is still required, but not near as much. just my opinion…..
Ya, I think this is part of the issue. The fact the light requirements are higher than the other 2 makes it difficult. More silk for a damask than leather for an elonian or mithril for a deldrimor.
So there are 2 direct options. Increase the flow of cloth into the system, or find a popular use for Leather to drain the surplus. Preferably both.
Silk wurm nodes that are fed leather by players to produce silk.
Bam.~ Get on it, dev team.
As in the horrific price of Damask, and the abundance of Elonian.
If Elonian was more expensive, and Damask less, so they met a nice equilibrium, it might be more affordable, and fairer on light armour characters, so they don’t have to shell out 500g+ for an ascended set, while medium characters can get one for only ~200g.
Or at least some form of gathering node for needed for cloths, which would hopefully bring the price of Damask down due to the higher supply.
Also, has anyone seen any developer discussion of ascended materials recently? The topic was discussed quite a lot a few months before HoT was announced, but its gone a bit quiet since then.
I use the Razer Orbweaver, Naga 2015 and Kraken Pro headset.
I really like them, and think they’re totally worth the price. They’re top notch quality, and ive never had any issues with them. For ergonomics, they’re absolutely excellent. I have Carpel Tunnel Syndrome (uncontrollable shaking) in some of my fingers and it really helps, in fact, since using the Naga and Orbweaver, I don’t get my carpel tunnel doesn’t occur when im on the computer.
One note about the orbweaver however, you will need to do some DIY with it, because the glue they use to glue on the hand grips is a bit weak, so eventually it will go really tacky and it will begin to slip, so you’ll need to remove it and replace it with a hand grip you’ve made, or you’ll have to re-glue it on with something like No More Nails or Cellulose Base Modelling Glue.
I’m completely in, but with one caveat:
Ranged power stats pretty please?
Yes please. The fact there are no ranged power pets bugs me.
Title. Would love to have a little mecha devourer to run around with me, and from an RP point of view, it would be great, because my Ranger is an Iron Legion Charr. Would love it if he built his own pet.

Although its not explicitly stated, in the “Specializations Part Two” blog post, it implies Elite Specializations are unlocked in the same way as Core and Skill tracks, so yes, its likely to be Hero Points.
If the Core Specs need retuning, they will be, however, take the word “Elite” with a pinch of salt. The Elite Specializations are side-grades, not up-grades. If you don’t like an Elite Specialization, or it doesn’t fit into your build, you won’t be any weaker for not running it. Its essentially just a 6th traitline that gives you a few skills and a weapon.
So far, we know we’re getting
Mistward Armor (6 pieces)
The weapons that match Mistward (16 to 19, depends if we get underwater weapons)
2nd Generation legendaries (16 or more, depends if theres multiple legendaries+water)
3 Revenant Blindfolds
Light, heavy and medium Guild Hall armour (6 pieces each = 18 skins)
Elite Spec weapons (9 weapons)
Elite Spec unique armour pieces (9 armour pieces)
So thus far, that is a minimum of 77 skins we are getting, and theres even more armour sets that have been datamined up floating around the place, but im not including them since we can’t tell if they’re for HoT or a release before then. If the datamined skins are in HoT, then we could see upwards of 120 new skins, as well as anything that hasn’t been revealed or datamined yet.
Galina and Snarl are quite funny to listen to in they way they bicker.
Smodur The Unflinching is also quite an interesting character. I think its comical how dismissive and jaded he is of everything. Like when Rytlock goes into The Mists to chase Sohothin, the Player Character and Rox are freaking out, and Smodur is just like, “lol, he’ll be k. Lets go home.” before walking off.
Braugit is hilarious. I think hes the only character ive ever seen the Player Character actively attempt to torment. But then again, if I met somebody who is scared of cows of all creatures, i’d poke fun at them also.
Maybe it will ignore energy based skills, and simply activate Rebound on the first weapon skill or utility with a cooldown.
While traditional Charr/Human places might raise an eyebrow to it, places such as Lion’s Arch definitely have interracial couples.
While its not exactly concrete evidence, there was for a time, an unnamed Charr worker in LA shortly after The Battle of Lion’s Arch, who described his remorse at loosing somebody called “Gwynne”. One could assume this either a partner or a pet. Considering Gwynne is a bit of an odd name for a pet owned by a Charr, and the way he refers to Gwynne as “my”, I assume its a partner. The name Gwynne could either be a Human name, or theres a slim chance it could be a Norn name.
On an unrelated note, I think there could potentially be a story arc with Rox and Braham as an interracial couple, considering they’re quite close, so we’ll see if the topic is expanded upon in lore.
EDIT: One more thing, interracial relationships are completely infertile according to lore. This includes Human+Norn relationships, despite how similar they look. Something to remember if you try going into an Instanced Area for some private RP, if you get my drift.

Considering Elite Specializations allow a profession to use a Utility archetype from another profession(s), what can the Revenant give to other professions, considering it’s utilities are also it’s profession mechanic.
If it doesn’t give anything, and it only receives new legends for it’s E-specs rather than real utility skills, it could feel rather isolated from the other professions, when the other 8 are swapping utility archetypes to fill out holes in the roles and playstyles they can fulfil and Revenant is stuck in it’s own microcosm.
While Revenants should have their legend’s skills, I also feel like they should have a pool of regular utility skills that can be used instead of a Legendary Stance skill. For example, if I decide my build doesn’t benefit from having Pain Absorption on Mallyx, I could swap it out for a generic Revenant-style utility skill, which gives Revenant more build diversity, and it gives the other professions another utility archetype to inherit when more Elite Specializations come round.
Although lots of people say Berserker’s gear is the only thing worth wearing, you can still wear something slightly tankier like Knight’s gear and nobody will notice the difference.
you dont need to go into Water to use Ice storm (Ice bow #4)
You don’t have to, but its recommended to activate the “20% damage to vuln’ed people while in Water” trait.
Come see The Tempest on this Friday’s POI show! We’ll be showcasing new and completely original skills such as:
Dagger Storm
Signet of Inspiration
and Well of Darkness
But seriously. Devs running out of ideas for new skills, so they rehash existing ones.
So what kind of Revenant are you?
The kind that hurts people.
Do you have a back story if so what is it?
A Charr Warrior who is conscripted to fight against Mordremoth as part of Smodur The Unflinching’s pledge to help with the campaign. During the pact fleet crash, the majority of her warband die, and the rest of them are killed by Mordrem on the ground. After this, she seeks ways to become stronger to seek revenge against Mordremoth and the corrupted Sylvari (and probably all other sylvari.), and in turn becomes a Revenant as a way to do that.
What race are you going with?
Female Charr.
What weapons are really tickling your fancy?
Mainhand sword looks very nice, partly because its the only Revenant weapon capable of killing things effectively. and the offhand axe. I like the bit of CC and mobility it has. and I don’t want to run sword/sword because I already have a character who runs dual swords, and I like to keep all my characters unique.
What is your favourite legend?
Shiro so far, although I wouldn’t be surprised if I prefer Glint when she arrives.
How are you going to make your Revenant look?
I like to make each of my character’s armour a different colour, and so far, the only colours I don’t have are White, Pink and Brown, so ill probably make her a mix of White and subtle Pinks. Im also yet to embrace the Albino Charr fad, so I might give her white fur and pink eyes.
Is it now going to be your main or just an alt?
We’ll see. I haven’t judged Revenant yet based on the betas. Im reserving that for when we can play them at full strength, with all 5 core specs, and their 5 legends.
(Im only going to talk about Charr, because they’re the only race I play in-game, so as a result, I only really pay attention to their lore.)
While the pregnancy time is unknown, Charr can walk and talk in a matter of months after birth, by which time they are separated from their parent(s) and put into a Fahrar. The mother, and sometimes the father will take this period off-duty to raise/wean the cub, but resume duty when it has been put into the Fahrar.
Besides this, Charr function nearly identically to humans on the reproductive/birth side of things. Just because they look like cats, doesn’t mean they need to function like them. There are no known Charr siblings who are born in the same “litter” which suggests they only have one cub at a time when giving birth. In-fact, the only Charr siblings im aware of are Rox and Rytlock, who are of different ages.
Charr also don’t have heat periods. They can do it as and when they want, and get pregnant at any time of year, as evidenced by the fact all the females don’t go on heat-leave or get pregnant at specific points in the year.
So in essence, Charr function exactly like humans, they just reach a walking/talking/eating stage in a matter of months, as opposed to humans taking years to do it.
58 days ago, I bought GW1 and all 4 expansions for it. Today, I got my 30th Hall of Monuments point, yet I cannot claim the rewards.
I genuinely thought I would have been able to claim my rewards by time I finish HoM, but that clearly isn’t the case.
Ive posted several times on the forums, in devstream Twitch chats, and on Reddit asking the same question: “Will HoM be reactivated by the time HoT releases?”. Taking in mind that developers are normally quite good at replying to specific questions, it simply shows they’re concerned it won’t be done by HoT release day.
Ill be taking Reaper, but I won’t be using Greatsword. The greatsword skills are just too slow. I hate the greatsword on the other professions because its too slow, so I immediately dismissed Reaper’s greatsword when I heard it was even slower than the other professions.
The traitline is nice, because it has a few traits that synergize nicely with some of the existing Core traits.
Im not sure if any of the healing or utility traits will be replacing my current set up, but the elite one is definitely replacing Lich Form in open world PVE and PVP. A bit of hard CC is nice.
On the whole, I don’t really like Reaper, because I can only make use of 1 elite skill and a few traits, but ill welcome it for now, in the hope a better Elite Specialization comes in time.
No matter what ArenaNet calls it, some hermit in a far-flung province of France will have an issue with it, because the French language has a dozen different ways to pronounce basic things.
In all honesty, Shiro’s skills don’t look very impressive besides Impossible Odds, so I think there could be room for other legends in viable builds, I think the swords or at least mainhand sword will be a staple for direct damage builds.
I was going to post this, but you beat me to it. :L
In all honesty, some racial skills are better than some of the Revenant utility skills.
For example, in PVE, Pain Absorption on Mallyx is categorically useless, its only practical to use in PVP, where theres hundreds of conditions at a time being thrown around. Considering my Revenant will be a Charr, I would rather slot Battle Cry for the Fury, considering Revenant doesn’t get much Fury, but loads of traits to synergise with it.
Considering the Revenant’s utility skills are locked to a legend, it will be nice being able to change out some of the useless ones with racial skills that might be potentially better, but so far, Racial Skills haven’t been mentioned in the context of Revenants.
Levelling a character doesn’t take long. I’d just bare the lack of blindfold for the few days/weeks it takes to level a character to 80, then transmute it onto a permanent piece of Exotic/Ascended gear you want to use.
In the Shiro Tagachi blog post, its pretty apparent his channelling colour is green. It surrounds the player’s hands, appears when you begin channelling, and when you summon the Jade Daggers, as seen in the screenshot.
I get that the green is meant to represent the Jade Sea after it was crystallized by Shiro’s shout, but I feel like red or yellow represents him more as a character, considering it was the colour of his armour and skill icons in GW1. Red was also the colour of his Shiro’ken constructs and it can indirectly relate to his final goal of collecting the royal family’s blood.
and even from an aesthetic point of view, I feel like theres too many contrasting colours. Red, White and Black from the Revenant’s signature colours, with Green from channelling Shiro. I feel like the contrast between all of them is a bit much.
Obviously its a really minor thing, I just feel like red or yellow would have been a better choice for Shiro’s colours for aesthetic and connotative reasons.
(On an unrelated note to save me making another thread, I think rather than the Jade Daggers being just lumps of floating jade, it would have been better if they were a set of knives that float around you, similar to how the Shiro’ken Assassins used to look in GW1, and how Shiro always had multiple swords behind him in concept art.)
After the Core Specialization rework, I could see Necromancers potentially taking advantage of Zealot’s gear to go with the new Blood Magic traits, but its technically unavailable at the moment. (Unless you use Trading Post, in which its rather expensive.) I also wouldn’t mind testing it out on Revenant, considering the staff has high DPS, with added healing potential.
Are there any plans to add PVE methods to obtain Zealot’s gear as well as the other obscure stat combinations such as Forsaken, Captain’s, Apostate’s and Sentinels?
Ive never played as a human before this beta test. They’re surprisingly fashionable for such a boring race.
Yes. Considering everybody in the game has their own healing skills and condition removal, the role for a group healer/support isn’t needed or wanted, however, defense/CC roles are appreciated sometimes.
I want staff to have Fury on Autoattack again, so I can take advantage of all the Fury-themed traits in the Invocation line, considering Revenant only has 2 sources of Fury currently, and they’re really short duration.
Contact support. The gems should be added to your account upon purchase.
Will HoM be back in time for Heart of Thorns?
I really like whats been done with the hunt for Princess, and evidently, a lot of other players do also.
Is there any chance of seeing a similar hunt or other task for the Star of Gratitude so we don’t need to wait until Christmas every year for another shot at it?
Has this update gone live yet? Ive logged in today, and I don’t have the 2nd character slot.
Blow it to bits.
For every human murdered, ill buy another gem.
For the Charr!

I saved the equivalent of £1 a day since announcement. Was pleasantly surprised to see I had enough for Ultimate Edition when the pre-release dropped.
Can we have an update on how this is coming along? Is there any approximate timeframe on how long this might take to fix?
Ive been debating on getting a copy of GW1 just to do the HoM stuff, but im sceptical about doing it because I know I won’t be able to claim my rewards due to this bug.
40 hours of farming, no portal, too bitter to care.
My same attitude.
Its not the “pay for prepurchase/beta” one. Not very “special” when the testers were selected on luck.
I see where you are coming from but I do 210% disagree.
What has ruined this game from start is any level 80 in zerker armor can beat everything with ease. By making the content 2 or 3 times harder I think this will change the game from easy, to builds. We will start wanting people in knights gear or clerics gear and doing more then just mashing 1 through 5 on keyboard.
I hope this new hard content actually means if you run in with full zerker gear you are going to die and be useless to team.
Only 210% disagree? Casual much.
But I agree with the point. Berserker has trivialized this game’s content. I don’t care how “hard” people say the endgame (Fractal50, etc.), it can all be done with ultra glassy builds on full berserker, which isn’t right. Im just glad ArenaNet will phase that out, so we are forced to have defensive investment to diversify the buildpool and detoxify the nasty “berserker only, no ranger, no necro” side of the community.
How I do know they “will” phase it out? At EGX and PAX East, we battled against the Wyvern, a legendary grade monster, using pre-made characters. Those pre-made characters were equipped with Celestial armour by default, and a lot of people got wrecked by this Wyvern. You need to be on your toes, and there are times against it where dodging will not save you. Considering people wearing Celestial got wrecked, people wearing Berserker will literally die instantaneously, and after we played, we found out from the devs that they nerfed the Wyvern for the demo so it wasn’t too hard for us. So if Celestial players struggled against a nerfed Wyvern, berserker meta is dead when it goes up against it un-nerfed
Thats just 1 encounter that we’ll meet at the beginning of Verdant Brink. What do you think we’ll find as we get deeper into the jungle, where we’ll meet harder battles?
Ive already got my Soldiers/Knights gear in advance.
I personally don’t think it will have much if any relevance to Grenth. Just because the idea of the human gods only appeals to humans, which is pointless when theres 5 races involved.
Take the Revenant for instance. Its essentially a reincarnation of the Ritualist, but without the “human gods” motif. I think it’ll be something similar with Reaper. I think it will just be an extension of the Necromancer’s power. Maybe something really upsets Jory, and shes goes a bit “movie monster”, turning into a Reaper.
Im also a “from day 1” player.
Always rep the latest anniversary title (currently “Veteran”).
Wear something that looks good, but isn’t tacky. Any fool can craft a Twilight and walk around like they’ve accomplished something, but what takes real skill in this game is making yourself look like the type of girl that people don’t want to mess with. I walk through cities in the game, and see the tacky outfits with legendaries galore and constant flashy effects, but niche items like the “Of The Mists” weapons and the Spirit Weapons, with humble, yet stylish armours are a good way to get the message across. “I am a better catwalk warrior than you.”. With the anniversary titles, this really gives off the vibe: “Gurl. I could wear a tacky paper-texture legendary, but I don’t want to, because im better than that.”
FashionWars2. Embrace it. The only way to show you’re a veteran, is to dress like one.
I don’t think they should be baseline, because it adds more reason to activate an Elite Specialization, however, I feel all the E-Spec weapons should be shared between all of the E-Specs, so lets say for example: Chronomancer can wield a shield, but another Mesmer E-spec may wield a Mace, and I hypothetically would like to use an Elite Specialized Mesmer with Mace + Shield, but I may not be able to do this because I cannot have 2 Elite Specializations activated at once.
How to fix? Make the new weapons shared between all E-Specs, so I can have a Chronomancer, that can wield it’s shield, AND the mace of the other Mesmer E-Spec, just by having one Elite Specialization active.
Generic korean art style vs GW2.
GW2 wins. Its the first game in a long time to have its own art style besides “Everybody is a supermodel!”
Its fine the way it is.
There are two places in the GW2 community you should not listen to. The forum, because its full of cynical people who have never seen the light of day, and the GW2 Twitch Community, because its full of fools who hate the game, yet insist on playing it.
If you want an accurate representation of the game, play it yourself.
