You’re right, it was WAY over the top. It’s essentially a slightly stronger version of Smite Condition 3×. It needed to be fixed. This wasn’t a nerf but a fix to a broken skill.

Traits

Rework all of the upon revival/kill and falling traits. They’re useless while actually fighting.

Rework all of the traits that discourage the use of activating your virtue’s(Zealous
Scepter, Purity of body, Defender’s Dogma, Zealot’s Aggression)

Valorous Defense: This one is completely useless, I’ve never noticed when it’s actually helped.

Zealous Blade: Increase the healing and have it be 10% dmg bonus instead of 5.

Symbol Avenger: Needs a damage increase.

Shattered Aegis: Needs a radius increase

Rework Radiant Retaliation: Have this something be power-based.

Stalwart Defender: Give this a unique attribute like Warrior’s Shield trait.

Communal Defenses: Radius increase.

Retributive Armor: Complete rework, this thing sucks.

Empowering Might: Remove the ICD and increase the range.

Remove Kindled Zeal, replace with Writ of Persistence.

Retaliatory subconsciousness: buff the crap out of this, the protection on cc is FAR superior than this.

Merge Permeating Justice/supreme Justice: No one takes these and even if they’re merged, I doubt anyone will take it.

Weapon/offhand Skills

GS: Remove the bolts from WW and increase the base dmg. They’re too unreliable and require you to be inside your target.

Hammer: Speed up the auto a tad.

Staff: Remove root on Empower.

Sword: Remove projectiles on 3rd hit auto. Remove root on Zealot’s Defense.

Mace: Third hit auto to cleave. #3 should only proc within melee range(same blocks as ranger/warrior)

Scepter: Fix the tracking on auto, change smite to a symbol.

Torch: Allow for Cleansing flame to remove conditions on the Guardian.

Utilities

Litany of Wrath: Trade with Revenant’s Infuse Light.

Signet of Resolve: Completely change to something else, not sure.

Merciful Intervention: Change to a shadow step without the need for an ally.

Signets: Change all to be self-empowering(buffs upon activation).

Signet of Courage: Uh….lower interval to 5 seconds?

This BWE:

Shield of Courage blocking everything in front of you is amazing, excellent job. I still think the cd needs to be reduced but that’s just me.

Wings of Resolve: Very clunky, easy to interrupt. Evasion might be nice for the duration.

Longbow
#1: Finally has solid tracking.
#2: Excellent damage.
#3: Still a bit too fast to block projectiles.
#4: Feels weird having a symbol on this weapon since you need to be constantly moving.
#5: Cast time is a bit long.

Traps:

Fragments of faith is bugged. It will trigger twice un traited and three times if traited to do massive damage.

Feed back time!

Longbow:

Auto: Feels good now, can’t be strafed. Excellent change

#2: Nice damage boost, feels strong for sure. Still a bit weak for the root attached. I’ve seen Revenants Coalesence hit for over 10k on a 2 second cd while moving.

#3: Fires too fast to block projectiles, needs to be slowed down.

#4: I’m not a fan of symbols since they feel like wasted skills so…not sure what to put here.

#5: Feels a bit slow on the channel, bit of a long cd.

Traits:

Piercing Light: The daze doesn’t do much to keep people in said traps, feels out of place

Dulled Senses: Without consistent kb’s, this feels useless.

Soaring Devastation: Strong immobilization. I feel like this should have an added affect but maybe that would be too strong.

Hunter’s Determination: ICD is way too long.

Zealot’s Aggression: Excellent trait for both cc and damage.

Bulwark: Just like Soaring Devastation, it feels like this should reduce the cd of the specific virtue or something added on.

Hunter’s Fortification: Completely useless. The ICD makes this this below-average for condition removal and the 10% damage reduction is NEVER on since everything sneezes conditions.

Heavy Light: Too much RNG with both cc and stability, very weak for a GM.

Big Game Hunter: Feels relatively weak for a GM, 10% damage increase? This should be bumped up and maybe have an added affect like keeping the passive?

Defender’s Dogma: Discourages the active use of your Justice Virtue, bad design.

Pure of Sight: Too weapon specific and boring.

Traps: They’re traps…I can’t say much honestly except what everyone else has.

Remove Kindled Zeal, replace with Writ of Persistence.

Personal opinion: Nope. Looking at Mace and Hammer this is extremly important for supportive Symbol builds. But Zeal doesn’t do them any favour. I’d rather see Kindled Zeal reworked into something else. For example, there could be an additional effect when a Symbol is created instead of prolonging the Symbol. Damage burst. Blind. Or Cripple. Wink, wink.

Writ of Persistence needs to be in Zeal with the other symbol traits. If you’re running a support dungeon build, you’re picking Zeal anyway. If you’re running a support build in PvP or WvW, you’re better off with Pure of Voice or Force of Will.

Even with that, I think Zealot’s Speed needs a change since it doesn’t give any…speed…

More changes:

Rework all retaliation traits(overhaul retal itself).

Glacial Heart: Move to master valor

Stalwart Defender/Strength in numbers: Merge these or something. Also, the toughness needs to be increased from Strength in Numbers since Toughness itself scales terribly in comparison to Power.

Amplified Wrath: Remove the burn-on-block, increase burning dmg to 20%

Unscathed Contender: Change to a 5% bonus when you have protection.

Battle Presence: Change to allow for VoR to keep its passive

Edit: Didn’t include any DH traits since they’re not finalized.

Still though, with the sheer amount of ways the guardian has to apply retaliation it would be like reflects…… for everything.

Even if it only copied the damage you were to take and applied it back on the attacker it would be insanely powerful.

You’d obviously have to reduce the ways of obtaining it. It’s funny you mention retal because I’ve seen Engineer’s with far more retal up time but that’s besides the point.

Not sure about the shield change, as others have stated, i’m not going to stand there for 4 seconds after the initial kb when I have more important stuff to do. Unless this constantly kb’s people, it’s a weird change.

Shield 4 is nice, mostly for the prot increase.

I hope we get a look at a lot of traits and other skills such as.

Zealous Scepter, Purity of Body, Symbolic Avenger, Might of the Protector and Valorous defense to name a few. I feel as if some of these work against the class mechanic while others are completely unnoticeable.

Just to reiterate, a lot of dmg was lost with the recent trait overhaul(4 dmg modifiers gone). Also, sustain was lessened with most dps builds since you can’t go 1 into Honor for vigor. A lot of negative changes were inflicted and i’m hoping there’s some decent balance there.

What if you take less damage for each condition on you (say 5% each?).

There are 13 conditions. Do you really want to have a trait that could give you 65% reduced damage, on top of toughness, protection, and other things?

It was a suggestion, nothing concrete. This is also a trade-off, do you keep the conditions on you for the reduction or do you cleanse?

Why not make the traits more fun and work with your class skill instead of inhibiting it.

Defender’s Dogma/Big Game Hunter: Once Justice is activated, this becomes useless. Maybe add on the ability to keep the justice’s passive.

This could also be applied to a lot of Vanilla traits as well ( Zealous Scepter, Purity of body, to name a few)

Also, making traits reasonable given the current state of pvp would also make sense. For instance, conditions are constantly spewed out so you’ll always have at least one on you. This makes Hunter’s Fortification 50% useless. What if you take less damage for each condition on you (say 5% each?).

Heavy Light: It’s very difficult if not impossible to keep track of the ICD so I would put this in the rng category. Why not tie this back to True shot? To be honest, I don’t think this one is GM worthy given how random it really is.

What? This is a post complaining about herald being strong, but almost all of the things you complain about are shiro stance skills. Nearly everything you complain about is about the evades. And hammer is a well balanced weapon with slow hardhitting skills. Things like drop the hammer are quite easy to dodge and the hammer leaves you mostly helpless in melee range.

How is phase traversal any different from judge’s intervention? The mobility is much much weaker compared to a thief that has steal, shadowstep, and infiltrator’s arrow, its not even comparable.

And I’m not sure why you’re complaining about the shield breakbar when soft Ckittenerally blows it up and stuns the revenant with 25 stacks of vuln. Thats so much counterplay its not even worth using.

I have only one gripe with Dragon Hunter. As many have stated, the longbow is a ranged weapon while traps are cast on position. This means that the best case scenario is only when the DH is when moving backward and setting traps for enemy that chase. This scenario is pretty uncommon in PVE, outside of kiting enemies while leveling or solo.

Because of that, there is one thing that Dragon Hunter sorely needs: a backstep, or retrat. Sure, we have Merciful Intervention, but that requires an Ally to shadowstep. My idea is to add a backstep or retreat to one of the traps OR add a traits to make Judge Intervention and Merciful Intervention ground-cast for DragonHunters. Another useful thing would be increasing the traps cd while drastically lowering the cast time.

Wings of Resolve. Same function as Ranger’s Swoop. The range is a bit lower though.

One is on a massive cd with far less range that doesn’t have an evade at the end of it…come on dude.

Oh also, the new virtue’s are far worse than the older ones. Whether people want to admit it or not, DH IS a selfish line. The virtue’s themselves only really affect the Guardian and are on massive cd’s.

Long bow is too slow, has no defensive mechanics attached so if someone rushes you,(you can’t run because you’re a guardian) you are screwed.

Traits are a huge mess. Dogma discourages you from using your virtue’s which make no kitten sense. Flat % traits are boring and unimaginative.

Haven’t given much feedback since it’s started so here we go!

Long bow: Not being able to cast abilities behind your back is a major hindrance. The auto is still strafeable.

Traits:

Minors: Defender’s Dogma makes no sense, this should be changed. It’s like Purity of Body/Zealous Scepter, it discourages you from popping your virtue’s active.

Pure of Sight: Nice change to help include staff for the damage increase.

Majors:

Piercing Light: With how traps are, no matter amount of cd reduction would influence me into taking this because traps are that terrible.

Soaring Devastation: Awesome change but it’s now the ultimate choice in the adept tier. Might want to bring the rest of them up.

Bulwark: Again, Shield of Courage needs to block all attacks in front of the Guardian, this doesn’t help.

Hunter’s Fort: Reiterating the fact that condi’s are sneezed out so half of this trait will be rendered useless.

Heavy Light: Random KB’s are not good for the game, needs changing.

BGH: Needs to retain Justice’s passive to be useful.

Edit: Also, since all of the virtue’s are inherently “Selfish,” they should have far lower cd’s

Puncture shot: is still strafeable, they didn’t implement the changes

Deflecting shot/Symbol of energy can still not be cast behind/side of you.

Traits:

Pure of sight threshold changed from 600 to 360. This is nice since it now accounts for staff.

Soaring devastation is at a 3 second immobilization, nice change.

Edit: No other changes were implemented that I can see.

It’s barely on a higher cd and has saved my butt many a time. LoW just screams, “CC, kite, counter-burst me.”

I that’d be neat to have 2 different types of Shout builds. Never really occurred to me really.

The issue I have with signets is that they’re both not strong enough offensively or self-empowering(Dolyak signet for example) to consider usage. I like where you’re headed just the signets themselves are a bit meh.

FoW: So…merge with Pure of Voice?

Battle Presence: Still wouldn’t be nearly strong enough to compete with Pure of Voice but excellent initiative.

Even though Zeal is the (un)official Symbol line, I wish this wasn’t the case and was more akin to Burst. Minors to reflect this would be beneficial.

Edit to be on topic: I just want to reiterate some suggestions people here have made as well as ones i’d like to see!

Spear of Justice/Soaring Devastation/Shield of Courage: Possible GM to retain the passive’s after utilizing the active.

Shield of Courage: Shield either KB’s those close to you or closer to the Guardian to actually block all frontal damage.

Hunter’s Fortification: This one is tough but if say the ICD was removed, one could spec outside of Meditations for condition removal and have a viable build utilizing blocks. Also, change the 10% dmg reduction when you have a condition on you.

Just a couple off the top of my head.

I’d absolutely consider giving up Monk’s Focus if that was the case but the big problem is that the only reason why that works for Warrior is because of their large health pool and long-duration invuls. Guardian’s lack both of these to sustain in the same way.

Essentially when you have nothing better to compare it to from the profession therein, it may seem OP because that’s all you have.

Meditations are in a slightly weird spot because they’re supposed to be completely selfish yet they provide AoE Fury. I’ve never been able to make a somewhat viable build in pvp without this. My one healing skill isn’t even close to enough to sustaining me. Hell, Meditations barely bump it up from there.

AH is also a bit weird as it’s the only GM in the game that has a HEAVY stipulation as to when it’s strong or not. If you’re by yourself, it’s a joke of a trait that’s not even worth looking at. In a group(at least 3), that’s a different story. Even then, this trait is HEAVILY revolved around running staff due to empower. I cannot find a single other trait in the game that requires so much for sustain.

Edit: I’d love it if the aoe fury was removed and it was like cantrips where you gain 2 short duration boons for yourself.

I really like Focus Mastery, amazing extra layer of defense since 99% of the time your shield will be broken relatively quickly.

Edit: Remember, Focus had its cd reduced base and this further makes it more quickly available.

This is true Asmodal. However, if you really wanted Guardian’s to have a viable ranged weapon for kiting, all that had to be done was to fix Scepter’s tracking. This is all that needed to be done instead of implementing a brand new weapon while still maintaining the original problem Scepter has.

Very well could be Noctis but i’d love to test it so we can verify. The whole “First in, last out” only works if you’re essentially as tanky as a D/D ele while also putting out significant damage. This obviously doesn’t happen. If Anet wants to keep Guardian’s slow then compensation needs to be made for significant sustain since your ability to retreat is non-existent. It’s the whole reason why when you’re in a fight as a Guardian, you MUST win or you die, you cannot run away.

The DH strengths are Virtues, Bow and traps. Nothing wrong with encompassing some defense into virtues as you’ve stated above. It would be nice to somewhere fit a trait to allow the passive aspect of virtue’s to remain.

Long Bow: There have been some incredibly positive changes being implemented.

Traps: I’m very biased against traps since they’re very much against promoting player skill and instead relying on your enemy to screw up instead.

Traits: We’ve mostly covered traits within this discussion ever since Karl graced us with his presence and gave us some insight into the proposed changes. A lot of solid suggestions have been touted throughout this thread. I’ll just reiterate some of my own and others who I’ve believed have been spot on.

Hunter’s fort merged with Bulwark makes sense. I still am not 100% sure on the ICD for the condition removal on block since it happens sparingly. Also not a fan of the 10% damage reduction while NOT having a condition. If anything change it when you do have a condition.

Wings of Resolve(soaring devastation) could help make it an evasion. What about a leap/blast finisher?

Dulled senses: Instead of vuln applied to your target, why not grant the Guardian swiftness?

BGH: I still think that as a GM, this needs to be 15% instead of 10, just my opinion.

I know everyone wants it, and i want it too, but we wont get it. Because of the sheer amount of Cripple that we can inflict, it would be a bit OP to also move faster from just a Minor trait.

I would be satisfied with just Zealot’s Aggression and Pure of Sight switching places.

I don’t see any reason why not. Either that or a way to gain Swiftness reliably.
