Thanks for the info Mystic. That is what I suspected. It’s good to see a confirmation.
(As for salvage kits, I almost never buy them. ^^ The Charr and Norn cultural weapon sellers have fine kits for 252 karma and basic kits sell for 77 karma at Valiant Mathair).
I would say the April and September feature packs would be the most useful things to look over.

Magic carpet coming to the gem store soon. There’s your mount.
Just a couple of dumb questions.
Was the other map Caledon? Could you have already have done the Ashford map and went back to do the 2 new hearts added last month?

I’ve seen threads that say high toughness or using shields will increase aggro. If you are pulling mobs from far away, maybe try adjusting your traits/stop using shield, see if that’s the problem.
Other then that, I don’t recall seeing places where 20 or 30 mobs are that close together. Some site names/events would be useful.
How about greens and blues?
I salvage some greens (all light armor, heavy chest pieces and greatswords) but it seems it’s more cost effective to sell all the blues and most of the greens. I tried salvaging all greens and while I got some luck out of it, the mats I got didn’t cover the cost of the items salvaged.
(My luck is about 140-141)
You must heavily twist the true meaning of P2W to believe that….
If you ever played a REAL P2W game you would realize how laughable that claim is.
Considering there are people who believe that buying cosmetics from the gem store makes this game pay to win, it seems there are a number of people with “flexible” definitions of the term.
Well I guess I missed out on this “unique” knowledge business when I took a break from the game. I just came across this same issue when buying a second ascended ring. Hopefully they respond to my support ticket.
I’m assuming there must be some other MMO where “unique” items exist and it’s known to mean you can only equip one? I don’t know why else some people would assume it was “obvious” from the word “unique”. Either that or your flavor of English usage just happens to be similar to the flavor of those who created the “Unique” tag.
I thought “unique” just meant you couldn’t find a ring with the same stats/upgrade slots anywhere else except the laurel merchants. Kind of like how there are certain unique weapon and armor skins that have to be obtained in a special way.
An example of how language has ambiguous meaning with multiple interpretations. If you don’t think language is ambiguous you don’t know anything about human languages.
[/linguistics]
Seeing as how they have the “this item cannot be equipped by your profession” blurbs, I don’t see why they can’t attach a “can only equip one” blurb to these “Unique” items’ description windows.
As far as I know they still fix this by giving you the alternate ascended ring. I hope you post what Support says, either yes or no, since the issue comes up periodically and it would be good to have accurate information.
Good luck with support.
He would need access to his bank if he has ascended items. However if he bought the 2 week banker golems as needed, one char could buy/craft the times and put the them in the bank for him to pick up, using the golem.
No difference in hosting, major difference in bandwidth. It’s not as simple as what he was talking about. Not to mention, a lot of stuff is a lot more expensive today then back then. A staff of 350 in a bigger office is a lot more to maintain than a staff of 50.
But there’s a lot more complexity in getting 150 people playing together on a the same screen at the same time with better graphics. It’s just a different product. It can’t be compared.
There’s not a chance in heck that they have 350 ppl working for Anet on gw2 atm. That might have been the case during development or prior to the china release (although I think KZ took much of that burden), but atm, there’s simply no way.
I was also under the impression that Anet was fond of sub-contractors…….ie many of those that used to work on the game were only there when needed. Thus now since they are not needed, they are not there. This explains why we have minimal reflection from what once was a much larger group.
I’d wager that there’s maybe 35 employees tops at Anet actively working on the game itself atm.

1/19/2013 size of live teams

“In GW1 we had a really small live team because the game wasn’t big enough to generate a consistent revenue. The gems/micro-transaction based model allow us to have a much larger live team in GW2, allowing players to see much more content on a monthly basis.
Our live team in GW2 is 15-20 times larger than the live team in GW1.”Yes those numbers account for the launch and the China release and include subs (which most likely are not there anymore).
If you look at glassdoor and several recent ex-employees that have made comments on the matter, the actual base is nowhere near the size of those numbers (300-350).
I’m actually stunned that people think 300-350 people would be able to keep their jobs if their jobs resulted in what we’ve seen in terms of this game. That many people are capable of so much more.
Are you saying that from 350 people or so in February 2014, they lost substantial numbers and no one has noticed or commented about it? That’s very interesting. I would have thought that would come out in some sort of business review or note of some kind if they lost that many people in about half a year.
I am saying they included contract employees in that 300-350. They are no longer employed by Anet once their contracts end unless either renewed or a new contract is agreed upon.
Think of it like a builder. They might contract out all the plumbing, electrical, framing, masonry, hvac, roofing, architects, etc….At a time they might actively employ lots of people, but once each contract work is finished they are no longer employed by the builder. The builder really only has a few employees like secretary, superintendent, project manager, etc…
You said, “I’d wager that there’s maybe 35 employees tops at Anet actively working on the game itself atm.”
If there were ~350 people working there in February and now 35 at the most, that would mean over 300 of those employees were contract workers who were let go in the last 6 months. I find it hard to believe that a company of this size and type would have had 85% or more contact/temporary workers. That sounds very unusual.
I would love to see the source where you are getting the information about staffing size and type.
It’s down so I can’t see what it looks like to suggest something similar. ^^

This subject has been hashed over repeatedly during the last two years without changing anything.
May I suggest you consider switching to female. There are several medium sets for female that don’t have a coat. The gem store Krytan armor http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Krytan_Medium_Armor_Skin and a couple of human cultural armors.
If you stay with male it’s coats, jackets and dusters for the foreseeable future.

It worked for you after you retyped your login?
If so that’s good to know. I’ll give that a try.
No, I actually did just as Yenn said, kicked off the launcher and just hit login, despite the wrong number of dots showing in the p/w field and it worked, it loaded the game automatically. so yea it’s great.
Oh ok. Yah, mine will login if I hit the button. It just won’t do it automatically right now.
I really think they should take out the part where it says, Warning:
That makes the email look peculiar, like it’s an actual warning. In common terms the word warning means that there is some sort of danger. That note is informational only, a comment.
This message was sent by another player. It was not sent by the Guild Wars 2 Team.
That gets the point across without sounding like there is something to warn against with that particular message.

How so I wonder? Unless they ping it no one else will know they have it. I wouldn’t think there would be 300 plus role players in game whose story includes a white coral ring.
Maybe role players are the answer. It just seems odd that it would have such a high price for something that’s barely cosmetic.I would assume people might use it for gifts or as wedding rings or something. It is not unusual for people to pay silly amounts for completely useless stuff in-games just in order to make certain things more special or something like that ^^
That would make sense.
I don’t role play and it’s hard for me to think of why role players might want something like this.

Are these on the TP yet? Anyone got some prices for me in-game? Still at work
If you’re on TC, aren’t you on a decent server?
I just jump on the map, look for what we have and run over and grab it. Occasionally I’ll get in a zerg and grab something with them. Unless you are in one of the problem servers it’s quite doable.
There’s always suicide runs into places. As long as I get the poi I don’t care.
Party up with a friend or 2 if you can. It’s a lot easier that way.

Are you trying to say that the store that was added years after it launched was the primary focus and that it made them more money then all the boxes sold? I remember when the store launched and all you could get was more character slots and the expansions. Then when they made it so you could have a pvp character with everything unlocked for balanced arena pvp they started selling skills in the store. I will agree that is an advantage for PVE but everything was on an even playing field for PVP. Are you saying there is not more in-game advantages in the current gemstore? Day one in Guild Wars I could not pull out my credit card and buy what ever I wanted including the best weapons in the game like I can in GW2. Trying to make Guild Wars sound pay to win when GW2 is 10x more pay to win is silly.
Years after? The in-game store in GW1 was released July 28, 2006 which was only a few months after Factions and only about 1,5 year after release of Prophecies, and before the release of the last campaign and the expansion.
And no, PvP in GW1 was not an even playing field. You still had to manually unlock the vast majority of skills, or you could take out your credit card and buy them all, thus bypassing the grind for either faction or in PvE-playing. A new account that just started playing had only a very basic skill-bar unlocked in PvP, not everything as you seem to imply.
How is being able to buy the best weapon in GW2 by trading gems for gold any more of an advantage than to be able to pay money to unlock the skills in GW1? You are also ignoring the fact that you could buy mercenary heroes in GW1, which basically made it possible to create AI-parties that were 100% impossible without paying.
On the skill unlock thing you may have a point, but since it was released together with the PvP access kit I suspect it was implemented for those who didn’t have PvE to unlock skills as an alternative.
But I really don’t understand why the mercenaries would be an advantage. There were at least 2 but mainly 3 from every profession in heroes not counting Razah.
The mercenaries were your own level 20 characters. I had an Necro/Ritualist mercenary party that would have 20 to 30 minions going at all times once they got started. They healed and gave the Rit weapons. They rolled over the regular PvE content.
Maybe the message from Seth Chadwick was from his gaming/playing account. The warning about coming from official ANet employees may be only from official accounts. Gaming/playing accounts might not count for that.
It fits my ele with her wind catcher backpack. It makes a theme of elemental weapons and effects for her. My Mesmer who is white and blue with Zodiac armor with Shattered wings and a white and blue Zephyite Wind helm, those weapons fit her theme too and I would love to get the greatsword for her. However I have the Vision of the Mists already on her and I don’t want to change that after going through the trouble and cost of making it. (Sigh).
Indeed, most likely interesting for RP:ers.

You’re probably hitting Diminishing Returns. To remove this, that char needs to go to another map and play there a while. Do a few events. One might be enough but the number needed is unknown.
If you want to remain in that mini dungeon you can go to WvW and do some events there. When you leave WvW you will return to your original spot.

What businesses don’t need a steady monthly income? Sure, ANet is getting some monthly sales from new players buying the game but is it enough to support them? They suggested strongly that any expansion type releases wouldn’t be sold separately but would be part of the Living Story. If so, then they need to make money some other way. Fluff and cosmetics in the gem store seem to be their way to get a monthly income.
That’s very strange. There is a fair amount of demand for this item, 300 plus buy orders.
http://www.gw2tp.com/item/23094-white-coral-ring I wouldn’t think a statless ring would have any sort of demand for it.
How bad is your internet that it takes so long to download a few hundred mb?
That was my question. My download took about 30 seconds.
Until about a month ago, because I live out in the country, I only had 3G (usually 1 or 2 bars) and sometimes no better than 2G. It typically took about an hour to download a patch. Typical download speed, 30Kbps to 70Kbps.
Ouch, you have my belated condolences.
A month ago they brought 4G in to the area. Now the download is 1 to 2 Mbps and the game isn’t lagging. Its amazing. ^^

Charr could stand to get more ‘skimpy’ armor sets, in general. They definitely need more leg armors with subligaria (for all armor classes), at the very least. Pants luck ridiculous on charr. Tights are even worse.
It’s awful. Most light armor on Charr is skirts or pants with panels hanging down. Everytime my Charr ran with that stuff hanging down in front of her hind legs, I couldn’t imagine how she didn’t get all tangled up in it. I finally found one pair of light pants. Charr look ridiculous in pants also but it’s better than a skirt.
Guild Wars 1 Charr in armor of that time. (Not a skirt!)
Skimpy armors need to be abolished. Noone in their right mind would fight with skimpy armor. Especially not heavy armor.
You just don’t understand how armor works on women.
http://www.geekxgirls.com/article.php?ID=1878
These are totally effeminate and I’m not a fan, but the concept is ok. Certainly a step up from the Chaos re-skins.
Can we maybe get some cool skins that look like actual weapons without crazy effects? Perhaps just a shiny chrome like the Guild Defender for metal ones and detailed wood bows etc?
I’m just over weapons that have pieces floating around or leave effects everywhere or look nothing like a weapon you would actually use, ie metaphysical, I just want something that looks cool but realistic.
Try the karma weapons in Divinities Reach. The NPC venders are by the Palace waypoint. The T3 Seraph Outfitter sells weapons with a silvery appearance for 63k karma each. They do have a silver “fan” motif though, if you are looking for unadorned weapons. (Think of the shield that Logan Thackeray carries)
You might also want to look at the cultural weapon sellers in Ebonhawke. Those weapons are very nice also. They are black and gold and if you just want the skin you can get the cheaper karma ones.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
I suppose it’s fair to give males, especially human males, something skimpy. I don’t know how many would actually want their dude characters skimpy, but at least it would be good for laughs.
I would like armor that shows the glow on my male ranger and if I had a male Norn or a male Charr I would like to show off the tattoos and fur. Some armor on some professions (heavy mostly) allow this but it’s hard to find one in light or medium that displays the chest or arms on a male.
It’s not always males who have male chars and it’s not always skimpy just to be skimpy.
When I was farming grawl for large skulls, I got quite a bit of silk. They drop a salvageable pelt that often yields silk, as well as bags that contain silk. I also got a few rare weapons, tier 5 totems and bones. I farmed them in the southern part of frostgorge for about 30 minutes at a time using whatever magic find buffs I could get. I don’t have exact numbers, but I ended up with a nice amount of materials each session.
Mmmm good luck farming grawl now. They were nerfed. No farming allowed.
What do you mean? Source please. (I assume he was talking here about the grawl near the Jormag site between Earthshake waypoint and Slough of Despond waypoint).
Personal experience. Yes, those are the grawl I’m talking about. I used to get decent drops there but I was there this week after a long time not farming there. Got nothing but trophy clumps of fur/vendor trash. Not anything useful. I asked in map chat if it had been nerfed and was told it had been some time ago, but of course, I can’t confirm. However, do keep in mind that ANet does the “stealth nerf” on occassion – and that’s not tin foil hat stuff. Drop in champ box coin is one perfect example. They never said it was happening, then people noticed the drop and posted in the forums and ANet was all “oops, did we forget to mention that??!!! Our bad!!”
I won’t be going there again, since it seems a complete waste of time now.
Well, darn. I’ll give it a try and see if I get the same results.

I’m happy with the ability to see the projected profit now by mousing over the price.
The article didn’t make it clear if these will go up to 5 tickets. I thought it was standard to raise the price a few weeks after the skins release?
So far the pattern is one ticket, typically a month but maybe longer, and they go up to 5 tickets when the next set is released.
It is a sad state when players are trying to finish living story and get abused by the event farmers. I have not tried that section yet, but will be doing it shortly. I pretty much disregard the chat for that reason. Hopefully this won’t sour other people from enjoying the living story and game in general.
That’s not exactly what’s happened here.
There are a couple players who repeatedly find these farms that they consider “wrong” (they are correct – these farms are bad for the game and economy and should be fixed) and try to “fix” them by completing the events.
They don’t do it to “get the Living Story,” they do it to harass people. They do it repeatedly. They do it on characters with names that let everybody know what they are doing. Then they come to the forums and pretend to be innocent, posting screenshots of the in-game harassment they get (which is wrong and should also lead to bans.)
This is trolling or griefing. I’m fine with either term.
The first time I saw them post, I thought they were innocent too. Then I researched one of the players and realized that she’s done it over. And over. And over. And here they are again.
In another couple weeks, when the next fail-farm is found, watch. You’ll see those same names in chat, along with a “guild member” who was along for the ride.
^^
Some people are trying to do the event for the Living Story and some are trying to do it just to do the event. But you see these threads where people say they are doing the event over and over because they enjoy doing them. Ok maybe so. Maybe that’s the only event chain in the game that gives them that special thrill. But when the event is nerfed and the farm moves to another site, those people are not staying behind to do that event. What they do is move with the farm and claim that this event is now the one they need to do.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
This….. was a strange thing to change.
Was there any sort of exploit or bug attached to using this next to useless tonic in a dungeon that they had to go out of their way to “fix”.
If they are going to fix it, why not change the timer on it so it’s something that people can actually enjoy using.
Shield are often the best looking weapons. Too bad only 3 classes can use shields.
Do these weapons have an animation, like that wind back piece, or are they more solid-ish like dream thistle weapons?
They have a ‘white wind blowing off the weapon’ animation and they have short ribbons that move in the breeze.
They fit the wind back piece very nicely imo. My ele has that back piece and the scepter and dagger I got fit that theme.
Edit: pistol and scepter
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
Is this another tempest in a teacup thread?
I just got the dagger and scepter for my ele. Very nice skins.
It’s a bug that hit accounts since this last patch. There is a workaround but it requires leveling up a character. If you do that, It may fix itself at level 8 where underwater stuff is unlocked. A friend did it by using a level 20 scroll and I did it by leveling a char to 10 for a key farm.
Edit: this last patch may have fixed it.

From The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
“This planet has, or had, a problem which was this: Most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper… which is odd, because on the whole, it wasn’t the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy… "
Substitute ‘people at event’ for planet and ‘champ bags’ for small green pieces of paper.
It’s not the champ bags that are the problem, it’s the people’s reactions to the events rewards and how they get them. Any time people are working towards a reward and get stopped by someone else, this behavior will pop up. It’s human nature. The answer isn’t to remove the reward but to rework how people get them.
Are you doing this because you want to or because you think it’s needed to play the game?
If you are doing it for the looks or just to have a goal then it’s fine but the final stat increase on that armor is tiny and is not needed to play the game. The vast majority of people are still using exotics and the game is made to be played using exotics.
This armor can be easily set aside to be crafted later when you have more money and mats.
As to the silk, most people I think farm gold and put in buy orders in the trading post.
(edited by Astral Projections.7320)
It’s not the champ bags that are causing the problem. If they are taken out then the farmers and the people trying to stop the farming will move to a different battlefield. The answer is to adjust how the events are rewarded, not remove the rewards.
well the highest buy offer is only 700 gold. Quite hoenstly just wait a few month, price will drop.
I spent like 700 gold on exotic hunter too. Still missing crustacea.
Only 700 gold? O.o
Well let me snap that little bargain right up. Or should I wait till it drops down to 500 gold….
Decisions decisions.
