As far as I can remember it has been doing this since launch. Presumably because each char can be repping a different guild and they didn’t want to confuse matters where you switch, see a comment in guild chat for one guild while repping another, and respond on that guild chat, possibly inappropriately.

I completely forgot about Marjory’s and Scarlet’s journal and the zephyr sanctum model. I have them stuck on a mule I never play anymore. Also my Watchknight tonic, that only allows you to use it for 5 minutes out of 30. (Still annoyed about that design decision). These are all items I’ll never destroy, along with any similar item in upcoming events.

If you are only doing PvE you don’t need to be on the same server, just in the same server grouping (EU or NA). This is because of Megaservers.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-megaserver-system/

And how partying up works.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Party

If you are in the same party and go to a map it will try to put you on the same shard. If it doesn’t and If you wish to go to the world that another party member is in, right click on their portrait and choose Join In, and you will be moved to their world.

The only time servers are really important is for WvW reasons.

Hammer Master without using a hammer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

I just noticed that I am close to achieving “Hammer Master”, with 483 out of 500 kills. The thing is though, none of my characters (Ranger, Engineer, Elementalist and Mesmer) can use a hammer! How is it possible to have attained 483 “hammer” kills? Do some character classes have skills and/or spells that can be counted as a hammer?

You get points for 500, however mastery is 5000.

Yah 5000. Which is one thing for hammer but really hard for something like shield which also has 5000 kills.

And to put a cherry on top, you can get a title for something like carving up a few pumpkins for Halloween but no title for getting 5000 kills on each and every weapon.

Asura gates for new players?

It’s not a block on new low-level characters, it’s a block on new accounts. If you are a veteran, several of the level-based content gates are already unlocked. This is one of them. It looks like, according to the wiki, Asura gates are unlocked at level 18.

Unlocked? Or information about?

Another possibility is that that was a trial account. Those do have some gates (WvW) locked to them. Maybe the LA portal is a bug, or it wasn’t the LA portal but a WvW portal the guy was leading a newbie to.

If you say something and I don’t have the same experience, why shouldn’t I be able to say it?

If that invalidates your experience to you, in my opinion you’re being too sensitive. I never said you were wrong. I never used those words. This is you painting your opinion of what I’m saying over what I’m actually saying.

The game felt so huge.

By the time I bought it, the EOTN had been released. I played all the way from the northernmost edge in Jaga Morraine down to the southernmost areas in Cantha, all across the parched plains of Elona and up to again the endlessly burning forests of the Charr area.

I miss the scale and scope of the dungeons. Not cramped rooms filled with seemingly endless trash mobs but whole maps in their own right where you carefully maneuvered among the mobs, taking them out one by one. (And the Dreadspawn Maw in the Domain of Anguish, aka DoA or Dead on Arrival, scared the spit out of me by coming out of the ground right beside me the first time I was there). The Guild Wars 2 dungeons don’t evoke the same feelings of battling dangerous foes.

By comparison, Guild Wars 2 feels so much smaller.

Keep in mind, I was able to finish all four Guild Wars 1 titles in a single week once.

I was talking about moving across the landscape and how big it felt. How big the dungeons were and how hard to fight the individual mobs were. Not whether one person could finish the game fast if they wanted to.

Guild Wars 1 (not dungeons the world) gave the illusion of size by limiting where you could and couldn’t go. It felt big because you could never go in a straight line to anywhere. You snaked back and forth on a path or one of a couple of paths through a large zone that was mostly inaccessible.

Take a look at the area north of Piken Square. It’s not really that big. But it’s very very hard to navigate. The illusion of size.

Oh I know all that. I didn’t say they were bigger, I said they gw1 felt bigger. And it still does, Guild Wars 1 gives the illusion of more space by being spread out across a bigger potion of the known maps. By having Elona and Cantha, the Crystal Desert and the far north. By having the ring of fire and the huge dungeons that were whole maps in their own right.

There may be more map to Guild Wars 2 but it feels much more limited in size without the other continents and the large dungeons.

You did say this is a thread about nostalgia and this is what I feel nostalgic for.

Well, yes, that’s true.

I just saw through the illusion and Guild Wars 1 always felt smaller to me, even than other MMOs. Probably because I started with WoW and was used to a truly open world, and then felt very claustrophobic by comparison.

I miss the far north. I miss Cantha, Elona, the Crystal Desert.
It’s been 2 years and there hasn’t even been the hint that we will see these areas again.

Did they give a reason for these server mergers? Because with Megaservers there isn’t any reason to do it for PvE or PvP. The only reason I can think of is WvW. Because of the way that set up, 3 against each other, that would mean they would have to merge 3 together to keep them equal for the WvW matches. So imo it would depend if there are any WvW maps that are so bad they need to be merged

I don’t know why you think those problems are specific to Charr. They’re not. Most helms make chars bald. My Asura’s toes and ears poke through shoes and helms. Her wings and weapons now float a far distance from her back when wearing the new costume (that I paid good money for). The wings are lopsided on top of that, they tilt to the right.

It’s not just Charr. It’s all char.

Didnt say it was only charr.

Says nothing about other races and I left my mind reading cap off when reading your post so I didn’t know that Charr meant Charr, Asura, human, Sylvari and Norn.

My bad.

So by not mentioning that other races have issues to (races I dont play) you assume I’m saying that no one else has issues.. Seems you are reading more into it than anyone else. Seems you are the problem.. not anyone else.

Good day.

When someone makes a post specifically referring to only one race (in this case Charr) and makes no reference to other races then a reader does not know they are referring to all races.

I’ve seen a number of threads referring only to Charrs and the armor glitches that are specific to that race. Your post as it stands reads as one of those.

I want to put in a good word for the new arrow system and the way events are clearer on the maps.

I didn’t like the arrow at first, I admit. I turned it off. But later i turned it back on and I really like how I now know where nearby events are. Both by the arrow pointing at them and by the orange circles on the map. When going through a map looking for events to do, it can be frustrating not finding any. This system allows those who want to only stumble across them and those who want to do a lot of them to see content to have it their way.

I wouldn’t mind more options though. The way it is now doesn’t allow people to disable personal story and events separately. If I’m only doing events, I don’t really want or need the pointer for personal story, but it’s a small complaint.

What I suggested earlier was NPCs who when you interact with them lay down combo fields that you, on your character, can interact with by shooting through, jumping on, hitting, etc. They can say something like “Smoke field” and put it down. They can even put the skill name in chat (Black Powder) so you can mouse over it and read it.

People can then learn at their leisure and go back for refresher courses when they want to learn even more.

Thats nice but targeted primarily towards combo finishing. Shows nothing about placing your own fields, or the order.
Perhaps that can be Combo Finishing Tutorial then have another one for placement? For the professions/ weapons that place more fields than they finish.

Yah. Those get done so automatically as players use their skills that I’m not sure how to teach them differently. I suppose they could speak to the NPC of their profession and have it lay down the fields while putting them in chat.

ofcourse ofcourse I dont think anyone is arguing against a tutorial or that different types of teaching should be encouraged. Its what type of tutorial will be enough?

Vindictus had a little video pop up showing the combo’s in action. Then you could go into a menu and see the text and if desired a small video of the combo being executed on a mob.

The fields are great but what if the person doing it has a staff and is a necro. To fully realise combo’s one sorta has to be ele, warrior. I mean there are so many combinations leaping into all fields doesnt do the same thing (aura’s).
Maybe small videos?

It would probably have to be personalized to each profession also.

Just watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFtJOQgHiLw

fireflyry.7023 is specifically arguing against tutorials and calling anyone who wants them lazy so yes, there are people against different types of teaching that are different from how they learn best or enjoy learning.

I remember taking a vacation in my 20s with a friend, a smart A+ student. We were going to Colorado to camp in the mountains. Now she obviously had read about mountains and had seen pictures. But she didn’t know (in a true sense) what a mountain looked like. I found this out because as we were driving she pointed at this little hill and asked me, “Is that a mountain?” It’s only till we got there and actually climbed a mountain that she understood. And she was a smart gal.

The point of this story is that reading only takes you so far. For some people unstructured random learning only takes them so far. Some people do need to have somethings set in front of them to learn. This is not a sign of laziness but a sign of difference in learning ability.

MMORPG’s should always have an aspect, be it story or in-game mechanics, that involves and entails effort on the part of the player to discover. It add’s to the depth and reward of the game as a whole.

Just my opinion mind you, but I hate MMORPG’s that play like a “For Dummies” handbook whereby they explain every aspect from day one…or twenty for that matter.

Fact is your being lazy and you want the game to explain everything to you. Learning for yourself, forums like this, or even better off vets/guildies/friends, is VASTLY more rewarding. Pretty sure Anet intentionally designed it that way.

PvP has a tutorial that shows players important elements of PvP, the downstate, reviving, stomping downed enemies, and capture points. Why don’t they expect people to read a forum here? Or ask people in game?

Sure I can read a few lines of text of ask guildies to explain (more lines of text). But that’s not the same as seeing fields put out in front of me that I know what they are and learning by exploring what I can do with them. Why is it laziness If someone is willing to spend time learning how do something? Just because the learning is structured is not a sign of laziness. (And it’s a very judgmental thing to say. I do hope you don’t teach people if you believe that structured learning is a sign of laziness).

No one is asking for you to do it if you don’t wish to but even at level 80 I’ve seen people not know how to dodge or how to use combos.

Like this game doesn’t have enough hand-holding after the last update. Want Anet to tuck you into bed and read you a story at napnap time?

Wiki/combo/stop being lazy.

I read it. But reading isn’t the same as seeing and seeing at random without explanation isn’t the same as seeing while being taught.

Maybe you are one of those lucky individuals who can read an explanation in a book and that’s good enough for you. But different people learn differently. Some can learn by reading while others need to see and practice. Practicing something is best done when it’s laid out and explained, not when some unknown field lands in front of you in a fight and you don’t know what it is. Sure, it’s possible to learn that way, slowly and inefficiently, but possible.

If you are one of the lucky people who can learn by reading and by using unlabeled randomly applied fields in game, well good for you. I learn better in a structured environment which is why I ask for a tutorial.

ANet could seriously use a combo tutorial. I’ve played for these 2 years but mostly solo or with one other. I still know little about combos and how to do them.

Profession specific NPCs that can lay down combo fields for players to interact with would be ideal to teach what they look like, how to interact with them and what the interactions look like.

Why would someone apply the terms of an ad directed towards new people to a 2 year vet? Of course you’ve already done all the exploration available after 2 years. You’ve seen the cities and no longer have the new and shiny of exploring them for the first time.

I’ve never played other games. How does Divinities Reach or The Grove compare to cities in a game such as WoW or the new ones such as Archage? If Guild Wars 2’s cities are less impressive then OP has a point there but I remember being very impressed by the size and detail of Divinities Reach and Lions Arch. Lions Arch especially was big and detailed compared to the Guild Wars 1 version.

As to growing and evolving. Maybe it isn’t at the speed we would like but is is both growing and evolving.

I knew from what the guildie said that it was supposed to send me to another spot first, Salma I think. So I zoned out of Lions Arch and tried it again. It then sent me to the other spot first then to LA. I was able to get the key then. It wasn’t visible to me but when I approached the bush it was in I got the option to pick it up.

Here is another example of what I mean by “rewards” being a joke. They gated content, and then they give out fake reward! https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/168240/gw416.jpg

Looks pretty decent to me. A nice booster (karma, speed boost or magic find) and a salvage kit. If I was a new player, one with no level 80s, I would be glad to get these items. Just because you, as a not new player, doesn’t value these items doesn’t mean they are fake.

It’s not the cinematic. Its a skill point in Cursed Shore in the water. In fact, there’s alot of those glowey sun-like orbs all around Orr if you look hard enough.

Is that the one that has that book, at Harrowed Sea? http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Captain%27s_Log

Can't see Vistas on map.`

A couple of possibilities.

First, what level are you? With the new set up, the New Player Experience, there are restrictions on low level players on what they can see on the map.

If it’s not that, try opening up your big map, default key is m.
Check the bottom left corner of the map. There is an icon there, looks sort of like an eye. Click on that. That gives options for various information to show on the map. Make sure vistas are toggled on.

Not Getting Authentication Emails

Read this thread for possible solutions, Not getting our emails.

If it’s not one of those problems, he might need to get a different email for the game.
After he gets a new email (one not on that thread as having problems), he can contact support. For that he does not need to log on to the forum.

At the top of this page-Support. Then top of the page-Submit a Request. (There are 2 drop down buttons with required answers on that page).

Tell support that he wants to switch to the new email. They will set it up for him.

The only quote I could find about dueling was this one: http://www.junkiesnation.com/2012/06/07/reddit-ama-distilled-developer-chat-all-of-your-questions-answered/

Re: “Can we, or are you planning on implementing – a way for players to duel each other?”

“We intend to have dueling post release, but when will depend on how demanded it is and how easy it is for us to get it into the game. ECHO!

Maybe the places like the Bane were made as possible place holders if they got PvE dueling set up.
