Are you trying to get to Southsun Cove? That’s the only place in that area that’s reachable.

Southsun cove, if you don’t have a waypoint, is accessible from a portal in Lion’s Arch. It’s near the fractals portal on the east side.

The game no longer launches automatically when the Auto-Play button is toggled.

Someone was screaming on the forum that they couldn’t use their copper-fed kit until they were 15.

Hmmm I used crude salvage kits that I already had from previous key running. I didn’t try the copper-fed kit.

also note that the DOWNED SKILLS are LOCKED

so are skills for UNDERWATE COMBAT. You have only the #1 until roughly lvl ~8.

I had plans on getting all classes to 80, but there’s no way I’m touching a char pre-40 in a very, very long time.

Salvage is locked until level 12 and basic kits and better at 15, including the copper-fed salvage kit. Gathering is locked until level 9.

I salvaged stuff at level one while in the story instance. Gathering I saw at level 5 outside the level 6 heart.

They didn’t remove the ability to dodge or heal. I dodged an attack in the starter instance and dodged whenever I wanted at low level. There is also the heal skill right there, same as always.

I’m only at level 6 on my trial char and while I think it makes things very clear for new people, it’s very "handholderish " and constantly is pointing people towards the next heart. That more then anything would discourage random exploration. The arrows say, “go here”. Most new people are going to do this and it quickly becomes a run from one heart to the next heart rather than a free form exploration of the world.

Maybe these people need this. Idk, ANet seems to think so.

There are a lot of people dodging thru to get the chest. ^^ Some are obviously learning how to dodge.

Skill 3 at level 4

No gathering, from what I read “at low levels”, so no exp (so no money from gathering for low levels). Skill point challenge sites not accessible.

I’m going to level a char at least to 10, see how it goes.

Please let us know how it goes. As I can’t log in right now, I am wanting to pla the game vicariously through you

For key running, it’s awful.

For brand new people who are just starting the game. I have to say its good. It’s handholding true and telling you exactly where to go to be level appropriate but you can ignore all that if you want. So far it’s spelling things out in a very clear and understandable way. So far explanations on simple stuff like inventory bags and how to access them as well as information about stats are popping up.

I’m level 4 so far and just received a message to go to a spot to “learn how to dodge” (dodging is in the game still from the start, as I dodged an attack from the starter boss).

One that was really hard to report was one where the char’s name was fine, the guild name was fine, but the 2 together made a sexual reference.

There are other ways of earning Keys, FYI. You can map complete for a 50/50 chance of getting a key + other mats (one of the rewards is always a Key or a Transmutation charge). And there are several maps in the game that once you know all the routes you can easily do in 20-30 minutes. Especially mid-level zones that give coveted mid-level mats. So you can do like Caledon Forest on a new character Map complete it in 20 min get chance for a key or a a Trans Charge and then when its level 10 do the PS and get a key there. I don’t know, its not like they took it away they changed their early game (not to kill key farming) to help new players have a more streamlined and easier process.

I’ve done a lot of map clearing and unless they’ve recently made a change I’d say that the likelihood of getting a key for a map clear reward is closer to 1/50.

Its a 50/50 Chance as it’s either a Trans Charge or a Key. I’m not sure on the exact math numbers but there is a pool of two items to get in that reward slot. I get keys all the time, I have 15 characters to map complete on and it works pretty well, its not as streamlined as farming a key in the old way, but it works and you get tons of other loots and such just from completing the zone if you pick up your items.

@Astral: Yeah its totally possible to kill level 15 mobs when you are about level 10-ish depending on your class. I usually roll a Guardian for this and what I do is make sure I get Green gear for level 10 and put Minor Runes and Sigils in it that give Power. It works pretty well. The changes coming to the low level unlocking of skills might make it also a little slower, but it still is a way to farm it.

Maybe. It’s still only auto attack for several levels and then skill 2 added for several more. No first utility at level 5. No weapon swapping till level 7. I suspect the new leveling system means it will take longer than 20 minutes.

But you are saying you got 8 levels in 20 minutes or less by doing map clearing? If you did I’ll have to look into this.

Since I haven’t had time to check out the changes personally, I am not sure how it will work, but yeah generally I was able to get to level 8-10 in about 20 minutes doing map completion. This includes events, btw and there are some good ones in Caledon Forest near the JP at the start of the map that cycle and overlap frequently..

Well, this is certainly interesting information. Even if the chance of getting a key is no better than 50%, at level 10 one can then do personal story also for the key. It’s definitely worth looking into.

I don’t know if someone already mentioned this but this was a mistake by WP he added a comment edit down in the thread about how you still DO get a key at level 10 completion of Personal Story Arc. It may take awhile longer (you have to get to level 10 to unlock the Personal Story now) but you can STILL keyfarm if you want.

The essence of the key farm was speed. The reason why speed is important is because it was barely cost effective at 30 minutes per run. If it takes longer because you have to first level to 10 by playing or adding in the time needed to get 8 PvP level tomes then it’s far more cost effective to do other stuff instead.

Crafting to level doesn’t work either. Cooking, which is the cheapest using all hearts is between 3 to 4 gold to get 7 levels. While someone can get some exp by switching between different crafting to refine, this assumes they have the raw materials to start with and don’t need to spend time or gold getting them.

The low level maps are 1-15. Are you saying that you can start a new char and in 20 minutes do a whole map? That in 20 minutes you will be able to handle level 15 mobs that are trying to kill you while you are doing hearts?

You realize you will now only have autoattack for several levels. No blocks, no cc skills. Just good old auto.

They said keyfarming was alright. Why change it now? This is horsekitten.
Way to be inconsistent as always.

It was all right.
Now it is still all right but more time consuming.

Nothing is inconsistent here, just unpleasant for those who farm.

Yes I would say getting to level 10 without level tomes falls into the category of “more time consuming”.

No doubt people can add PvPing to their regular activities for the purpose of getting tomes but since key farming barely paid off when it took no more than 30 minutes for a run, adding the time involved in leveling to 10 or the time needed to get the 10 PvP tome rewards to this time means it’s no longer cost effective.

This IS insulting.

The Chinese system has skills and utilities removed to higher levels. While ANet didn’t spell it out in the blog, knowing what other Chinese stuff they are bringing in implied they were doing this also.

Key farming would have gone away if keys actually dropped while playing the game the way it was supposed to be played.

Black Lion Keys do drop in game from random mobs, but the probability is so tiny that it’s almost non-existent. I’ve been playing regularly since early launch, and I’ve gotten about 4 keys from random mobs over that span. Outside of precursors, they seem to have one of the lowest drop rates of any item.

If ANet would increase the BLK drop rate to a reasonable level (for example, maybe half the rate that black lion chests drop), it would probably help quash a lot of the angst over key farming getting nerfed.

Black lion keys are probably a pretty good moneymaker for ANet. Tolerating key farming is one thing, as key farmers probably wouldn’t have bought keys anyway. Giving keys away to all, including to the people who will pay for keys, is another thing entirely. Giving keys away cuts into their profit in a way that key farming doesn’t.

One consideration. If you have the scrolls to get to level 20 and if the keys are still at level 10 and level 30, then the most effective use of those scrolls is to go all the way to the level 30 story line to get 2 keys out of it. Doing the 2 sets of stories before the level 30 set should give enough exp that only some leveling to level 30 needs to be done.

I wonder if ill be able to put them in my collection still.

“You will no longer deposit minis into bank collections. Once a mini is removed from the bank, the collection space for that mini in the materials area of the bank will disappear. Those collections are being moved to the Wardrobe. New achievements will also now be available for completing Wardrobe account unlocks for the series 1, 2, and 3 minis.”

Now this part is a little ambiguous however the way I read it is, if you have a mini in that slot and you get another then you can still place it in there. If you don’t have that mini already then the slot will be gone and if you get it you can only put it in bank/personal inventory or make it account bound.

While it’s an interesting idea, crafting to level 10, I’m not sure that the cost of crafting will be cost effective for a key run. Most key runs only net the gem store items and a few silver in items to sell or salvage. The gem store items have the gem value that it would have cost for you to buy them, but not everyone wants or values these items.

If it costs a gold or two to craft to from level 2 to level 10, times the average of 50 times this has to be done then it will cost 50 to 100 gold just get one skin.

Looks likely that changes will effect this. But I don’t think it will stop people from keyfarming. I think the techniques used will change and particularly take longer, but be worth it as there will be less supply for the key items acquired (skins, minis, permanant contracts etc) for profit without effecting demand so hopefully the extra time will equate to an equivalent profit. Just less boxes opened.

It may bring more people into PvP in order to get the Tomes of Knowledge. 8 of these plus being level 2 out of the story instance will allow someone to do the personal story.

Key farming was an unintended consequence. It wasn’t a feature. I’m glad Anet is changing it.

The ignorance of many players is astounding. If you don’t key farm that’s your choice. Farmers supply those lovely skins you get to buy cheaply.

Keep applauding the Chinafication of GW2 I’ll pass.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe Anet will be forced to change how keys are acquired now? If there are very few keys being bought now because of this change, they will be forced to change their tactic on selling them or making them more available by other means, or perhaps getting rid of them altogether. The current system keeps the keys in place that isn’t even a viable alternative, as to how the game should be played. Again, it was an unintended consequence that was unforeseen.

Or perhaps the same number of keys will continue to be bought by the people who bought before this.

Key farmers as a group probably didn’t buy key then and won’t buy keys now. There is no real evidence that there will be a net change in the numbers of keys bought after the patch.

Imo ANet truly needs to take tickets and scraps out of the black lion chests and either put the weapon skins directly on sale in the gem store or sell the tickets directly to get the skins from the vendor.

Once key farming is ended and the majority of weapon skins are from buying keys, I’m expecting each weapon to cost several hundred gold each, around 400 to 500 gold.

They should do away with breathers as gear and just use it as a skin. You don’t actually need them to survive underwater, so the only value is cosmetic.

Instead, you should just have your land-helm provide the stats/rune.

Considering most people at level 80 have, at best, a masterwork with stats that don’t match their build, getting rid of the breather as gear would be a good idea since they don’t seem to be interested in making it craftable.

[Suggestion] Server Based Guilds

Astral Projections.7320

Imo the main flaw with your suggestion is the rationale behind it, that the reason for guilds is WvW. Not role playing. Not PvP. Not PvE. Not just to hang out with friends and maybe do this and that. People join guilds for many reasons, not just WvW.

An example of a problem tied to your suggestion. What if someone is a major role player who also likes WvW. The guild with the roleplaying you like is tied to one server but you really want to WvW another server. If you join another guild for WvW then every time you switch guilds between WvW and roleplaying, you get locked out for 24 hours.

Your suggestion has the potential to force people to chose between being in a guild with friends and being in a guild for a particular server.

And of course there will be those that make a personal guild, get the affiliation then want to join another guild with a different affiliation. This means they will have to pay again to switch their personal guild. A minor point but it will cost them each time they do this.

“The cost of joining a server for your guild would reflect on the quanitity of members currently in your guild at that time. " What if a guild has a lot of people and kicks them all to get the lowest price then reinvites?

How much gold for an unguilded person? This means players without that much gold wouldn’t be able to access WvW? A paywall in game isn’t a good idea imo.

How are people in game supposed to find a guild for the server it wants to play for? Guilds can advertise, sure but they don’t advertise all the time. People will have to pay close attention to chat in hopes that a guild for the server they want is advertising

This means people will have to chose guilds not for the personality of the guildies and guild but the WvW affiliation.

How about new guilds? The one that don’t have the badges and influence? How are they to get and retain people who want to do WvW if they can’t access WvW?

Hello guys . Today I bought a human heavy T3 armor but I just wanted a skin so after a purashe just sold the Parts again at the npc . There were 5 of 6 parts i bought so my question is : I need to buy the whole Set again to get the AP for Emperor title or every part of set just count and I dont need to keep this ?

You can only buy and unlock each piece once to count toward the title.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fashion
“….The Emperor’s New Wardrobe; this tracks the total number of pieces you have collected. Maximizing each title requires purchasing six cultural armor pieces for Tier 1, 2, and 3, which costs 128g 98s or 644g 90s for all five races, which will also complete the meta achievement”

In total, you will need to soulbind 90 unique pieces of cultural armor. If you mouse over the armor at the NPC it will say locked or unlocked. The ones you bought should say unlocked, which means buying them again will not count towards the title.
