Every month I spend $20 on gems. Except for one or two foolish times after launch they haven’t been for keys. I buy items with firm prices you can buy directly. If key farming is nerfed I still won’t be buying keys. The profit/loss from me to ANet will still be the same, but my feelings of losing a part of the game that I enjoyed and found mildly profitable won’t be positive. For me and ANet, that is a net loss.

To be fair even if it was read as the name of the Egyptian Goddess it would be against the rules, since that would be using a religious figure

I didn’t know that, i have already contacted support and is in progress. In the future i’ll be more careful about how i name my toons.

This part of TOS is about not offending others. The part about religious figures is really about current religions where someone could be offended by a name. No one cares if names from extinct religions are used as long as they don’t have some sort of current offensive meaning.

New players can still play WvW and PvP, only their icons at the top of the screen will be locked.

If their icons will be locked, it means they can’t click them right? If they can’t click them, they can’t join WvW or PvP.

For WvW they can go through the LA portals.

I admit I’m not familiar enough with PvP to know if they have a portal in LA or not.

There is a portal in LA. It’s near the WvW portals. I think you can also keybind the menu, tho it’s not by default. checks Yeah, you can, but it’s not by default.

Yeah. Went back and read it again. If you know what you are doing you can get into PvP.
“but experienced users can use the portals in Lion’s Arch or use hot keys to access those game modes immediately.”

Yeah, it’s strange. Lol.

The “other self” isn’t visible to others and I only noticed it from how my mini pet acted and from me dying suddenly for no obvious reason. Or if I’m running along on flat ground and suddenly fall down and lose health for no reason. If I die high up on a ramp, other people can’t see my “other self” lying below. But if I talk in chat my chat bubble comes from that spot. I have to keep talking until so they can find that spot and get the rez option.

“personal story starts at level 10”

So the question is how long it takes to get to level 10.

You more or less reach level 5 when keyfarming right now, and that’s 15-20 minutes. However, that’s including experience from doing the Personal Story itself.

Anyway, using this as an (extremely) rough guess, it’ll take 30-40 minutes to get to level 10. Add another 10 minutes to do your Personal Story steps, and it’ll be 40-50 minutes for each key.

So expect Black Lion weapons to significantly increase in price on the TP.

Without the exp from the story you can normaly make maybe 2 level per hour, so
for me it seems it will then take maybe 5+ hours for a run.

I think Beldin’s estimate is much more likely. To reach level 5 in 15-20 minutes was by doing personal story, which gives a lot of experience and was fast. To do it by events, you have to run around in the starter area finding and doing events. Finding takes time. Doing takes time. And the cherry on top, you don’t get as much exp as you get for doing a personal story.

I would say 2 levels an hour is fast. Knowing where events are and grinding them out.

While they are porting things over from the Chinese Client, they were very specific about locking the WvW and PvP buttons on the tool bar until level 18 and 22. Making such a dramatic change to the PS unlocking at level 10 without so much as a whisper doesn’t fit into their MO. Yes the blogs tend to be a bit vague, but with changes of that magnitude they are very upfront about it.

True, they don’t specifically say but they have that system already made and set up in China. They just need to port it in, not completely remake it for our client.

It’s also in the words they use:
“story chapters become another big moment to look forward to earning and unlocking as your character levels up.” Here they are saying that they are something you will be looking forward to. If you get the first section immediately after reaching level 2, then you haven’t spent any time “looking forward to it”.

Yes, but what is being left out is: “As another addition with the level-up guide, we’re updating the personal story steps using our new Story Journal so they come in story chunks that unlock all at once per chapter. When a story chapter is unlocked as a level-up reward, you’ll be able to play straight through the entire chapter from start to finish and not have any awkward starts and stops that throw off the storyline.”

This says to me is that I can play through an entire story chapter seamlessly without interruption. As it is, with each chapter, I need to step away from the story, and level up a bunch before I can go to the next step in the story chapter.

Adding in the level 10 restriction does exactly the opposite. The story starts at level 2. Now if I had to wait until level 10 to be able to finish that story, where is the seamless “play from start to finish without awkward starts and stops”?

I don’t know how the Chinese Client has included this problem, but I don’t see it coming here without first changing several things, and without an announcment of some kind stating that is what is happening.

I’m not sure how what you said relates to when it starts. They said it will come in chunks so obviously it’s no longer seamless no matter when it starts, level 2 or level 10. The first part is the tutorial. The personal story really doesn’t start until you leave the tutorial and get the first message of what to do next.

Even if you consider the tutorial as part of the personal story, it’s still an obvious place to pause it to allow your char to level up enough to tackle the first set.

Right now there is a breadcrumb that leads you from one to the next and it’s obvious you need to level up for each section. If a level 2 player gets the personal story as a chunk to do, not one story at a time, I suspect that ANet feels too many would try to tackle it as one chunk. They would hit content with mobs way to hard for them and get discouraged. For this reason I think ANet set it aside till level 10. At that point your level is above or matches the personal story chunk.

I’m not saying that I don’t wish you were right. I just think that ANet does not want level 2 players immediately doing personal story, that they want them out in the world leveling and exploring first, learning skills and weapons, before they tackle it.

When does personal story begin after patch?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

It will be level 10. Key farmers could do it with experience and carefully chosen gear, runes, food and sigils, but a true starting person would get wrecked if they tried to do a level 10 story line, where you get the key, at level 4.

So if it’s in chunks now it makes sense to start it at level 10 so their chars’ level will match the level of the mobs.

To those saying, we did it. It’s different. They will get a notice that this chunk of personal story is ready for them to do as a set. If they get this notice at level 2 and try to do it, it will be too hard.

Key farming was a way for me to grind 100 gold each month or two, by selling one weapon at the trading post for that much.

I’ll be doing other stuff of course, but so will many of the other key farmers. If key farming doesn’t start till level 10 then this is really going to affect the prices of the new weapon skins in the TP.

I used to do the Temples on a regular basis before Megaservers. There would be days that I would get in with a commander and do all 5 Temples, one after another. I’ve done them a handful of times since then. It’s a real loss.

Jormag, I don’t do very often. Takes a long time and people squabbling over the champs gets on my nerves now.

Ulgroth. The crowds there can cause my computer to crash. Only do it occasionally.

Fire ele. Pre-event takes too long. Boring. An occasional mob spawns and maybe you get a chance you hit it before it dies. Then the fire ele spawns. The last few times it melted in seconds.

Teq and 3 headed wurm. I’m lucky enough to be in a guild that does Teq daily and is trying now to lean wurm

The others, most have been so trivialized by the massive numbers of people that going there is just to get loot. It’s certainly not for the fight.

Teq and 3 headed wurm deserve their solo spot on the timer, but the others really need to have 2 or 3 starting simultaneously. They would really benefit from splitting up the zerg.

Hardmode/Vanquishing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astral Projections.7320

One problem with vanquishing in this game is the difference in both map sizes, number of mobs, and mobs that spawn for events.

Guild Wars 1 maps were smaller because you couldn’t walk on all of the map. Many areas were simply corridors lined with mobs. The mobs were fewer per map and stable in number. If you killed one it didn’t respawn. There also weren’t events going off all over the map with mobs spawning for them.

So, to make it similar, ANet would need to stop mob respawning, remove events and probably reduce the number of mobs per map. They would also need to remove hearts. Certainly most have mobs tied to them and killing mobs tied to a heart can trigger more to spawn. In addition they would have to redo all the mobs to increase then to HM levels

They would need to make maps wiped clean of all except mobs and then remove all except a set number of mobs. This is undoubtably feasible, but how easy is it to do that? Would they need to remove events and hearts one by one? Remove mobs as a group or individually? It sounds to me like a fair amount of work.

With the Megaservers, all the servers are combined into a few map copies. In other words, you might pick one server as your home server but when you log on, you are in a mix of people from all the servers of your region. WvW is exempt from it, but not PvE or PvP.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Megaserver#Megaserver_system
“Players will no longer be segregated into separate copies of a map based on their home world selection. Instead, all players will be placed into shared copies (instances) of the map, which will be instantiated as necessary to hold the current population of that map.
Overflow shards will no longer exist.
Maps are still region-based, i.e. North American servers are separate from European servers.
Upon entering a map, players will be placed in the copy of the map based on a set of heuristics which includes your party, guild, language, and home world. This will dramatically increase the chance that you will be placed in the same map as your party and guildmates, or other players who speak your language.”

I’ve been running along sometimes, DC, and when I get back I’m nowhere near where I thought I was.

The grove has open spots and ramps. If the game thinks you are somewhere else, you could be running on what to you is flat ground and die because your “other self” at another spot runs over one of the holes in the ground or off a ramp.

I’ve died suddenly while on ramps. My “other self” ran off the ramp and died. My rez spot is on the ground below where it is. If someone rezzes me down there, my “self” way up on the ramp above will be rezzed and get up.

They took out all those items from WvW as some of the skills there were being used there to advantage. For example, iirc, corpse toss allowed for a speed boost with a short cooldown. And I seem to recall reading about the sonic tunneling tool being used to hide under the map.

For these reasons all the items were disabled in WvW, regardless of their skills.

It doesn’t help wandering around looking for stuff to do on a map and not finding anything for long stretches of time. This makes maps appear empty and boring. So much easier to go back to Frostgorge and hit the champs again. Or Instead of of doing events to get karma, heading to that EOTM map.

I like the idea of repeatable Hearts, especially if integrated as something simple like a daily/monthly achievement. I think 5 is too high for daily, though — 1 or 2 would be more reasonable.

Did you know that the game originally didn’t HAVE Hearts?

But players didn’t know where to go to find the events. So ANet put things to do to pass the time in areas were events tend to pop up. These are the Hearts. They are primarily there to slow your progress in an area down long enough for you to see an event occur. They put it towards map completion and gave rewards to it so that players would have incentive to slow down when they ran into a heart.

Uh… do you have a source on this? You must be talking about an extremely primitive prototype version, because even in early betas there were Hearts. In fact, there used to be over double the amount of Hearts that we have now.

ANet said that about the hearts before the open betas, that people were lost without a traditional quest type structure. I remember reading the quote, but it’s been over 2 years now and while I can find numerous references to it, the original quote seems to be gone.

ANet seems to have removed a number of old quotes. The links leading to the quotes clarifying the manifesto are gone also.

Logging on and playing? Or just logging on? Some time ago, you could get Influence just for logging on with characters, but that changed to a certain time limit of being logged on, or a certain amount of activity…I’m not sure which it is. I suspect time. Because my JP-parked characters don’t generate any Influence, except once in awhile. Since they do nothing, really, I think it’s only when I’m logged into them for a certain amount of time. Same with my character that’s parked outside Home Instance for gathering.

But, if you can see someone on the same World as the Guild is playing a goodly amount and not generating Influence (to that World’s Guild pool), you can, indeed, contact CS.

Remember, you would only be able to see the Influence gained if the Guild member is on the same Home World as you. And, that Influence is posted on some crazy timeline. Some things seem to show up rather quickly, and others take a long time to show up. /shrug

Good luck.

For me, logging on and playing on my key runner. Which means being on at least an half hour and doing personal story. There would be several days in a row where I got influence for doing activities but no influence showing for logging on.

I don’t think resetting hearts is the way to go.

A long time back I suggested the book method, like Guild Wars 1. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Storybook
An NPC gives you a book, you can have multiple copies in your inventory if you wish. In it are all the events in a map. Doing the events fills up the book, (one event will complete only one page of one book, not that page in all the books in your inventory). You can turn in the book to a reward NPC for exp, karma, gold or progress toward new skins unique to that area. Each book can be turned in partially filled but a completely filled in book gives the best rewards.

Imo, a system like this would get people out in the world to do events, all the events, in order to fill up books.

They could even have a final part where the char is lying on the ground all tied up. One commando poses beside the char while the others do high fives, before picking him up and running to the helicopter. ^^

Edit: removed a part where I suggested posing with one foot on the char as some cultures are very sensitive about shoes and the soles of shoes coming into contact with another person. Shoes walk through all sorts of dirt (including excrement) and in some cultures it’s insulting to touch someone with a shoe.

Sometimes that can happen if you are lagging. Where you think you are and where the game thinks you are can be two different places and it’s where the game thinks you are that counts. Because of lag, the other one will be on a separate track from you and won’t be making the same turns at the same time. So you might run around a ledge or a hole in the ground, common in the Grove, and the other will run off it and die.

It possible to see this in action if you have a mini pet out. It will stay with the game’s char. When you stop running it will be beside it, but several feet over to the side. If you log out and log back in, you will appear where the mini was, not where you were,

I reported it as bug ingame with a screenshot. That’s probably the best route here OP. That way they have information that you didn’t include in your post, such as guild name, dates, server, etc..

You could have been hacked. Maybe they got interrupted after taking the gold and haven’t had a chance to get back to you. Even hackers have real lives that interfere with stealing.

Do a full security sweep of your computer. Change the passwords on your emails. Change the password for the game.

Then contact support.
Top of page-support. Top of page-submit a request.
Be sure to select an option on the two drop down buttons.

Support should be able to tell you what happened and give you an account rollback if you were hacked, if you want one. Just be aware that they only give one rollback to each account for the lifetime of the account.

Missing ~150 gold. Filed ticket. what now?

I don’t see what the problem is in regards to follower list. If they’re only on your followers list, you aren’t deeming them worthy of adding to friends list… so what’s the problem here? Why would you want to distinguish between NA vs EU if you aren’t friends with them?

Sorry, just not understanding what your personal problem with it is. To me it seems a little strange. Either way you could just send them a whisper and ask if you care to know…

My problem (Personal would mean just me, I’m sure others have the same problem, So not personal) is that My Followers list is clogged up with NA players who I don’t necessarily want to block but cannot play with them and don’t want to be friends either, So when new EU players add me and go in there things can get confusing. It’s not alot to ask for to add a simple “remove follower” option, It would take anet like 5 minutes to add and make alot of players happy. Its not as good as a full friend request system like wow or facebook but it would be much better than what we have now. I don’t get why some people argue (sometimes for the sake of arguing) when players ask for this and their argument is that it doesn’t annoy them personally so anet should never add it.

It will only take 5 minutes to add a function that would go into other people’s accounts and their friend’s list and modify it without their permission?

Do other games do this? Is this even remotely a good idea?

Instead of asking ANet to take the time to add this invasive feature, to modify the accounts of people who you don’t even play with, why don’t you take a few minutes to go through your list and add the nickname, NA to all of the NA ones.

If you don’t know which are NA, friend them. Go to the leaderboards https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/ and check which world they are on. That will tell you right there if they are NA or EU.

For nostalgia reasons, it would be so cool to have potions that are the same as the old Guild Wars 1 potions. I am referring to the ones that turn you into Jora, Ogden, Olias, etc.. Since articifer is already at 500, cooking could possibly do this, maybe with bloodstone dust, dragonite and empyreal fragments as components.
