Ah, sorry, forgot to specify. Let bleed be the one changed so as to have an excuse to make it significantly more damaging as it is. Not JUST make it conditional to make it even harder. Use it as a justification of making the skill do enough damage that people will actually be able to run it successfully.

An idea for a change to bleed that I have:

Maybe Anet could make it act a little like a bleeding wound acts in real life. In real life bleeding wounds that are stopped immediately are not that big a deal. But you let the bleeding go on longer it gets progressively worse (logarithmically,), plus you get weaker after a little bit if it goes on long enough, plus it’s harder to stop the longer it goes.

So in game terms something like this: dmg per tick increases X% for each additional tick+after X amt of ticks the victim gets the weakness condition+after X amt of ticks it has a X% chance to come back immediately (at the first dmg amt, like the process starting all over).

It sounds like it would be a bear to program. But that would differentiate it from the flat X damage each tick that burning does.

Something else to consider would be to take a deep bleeding approach where each stack of bleed reflects a severity of cut. As more stacks are applied the “cut” worsens so bleeding damage scales up. The idea is that bleed would do +X% more damage for certain thresholds of stacks. so 1-5 stacks may be 20% below current damage and then 5-10 may be 15%, so on and so forth in 5% increments where it then starts gaining +Y%. This would make condition duration and weapon speed more even relevant to the condition meta, and would add more thoughtful active application and counter play.

Really disappointed to see that people with differing views on this npc were censored.

Think you misread, their views are still there.

Eh, not to be that guy because this is a topic that i want to avoid like the plague but Gaile did say:

“If you feel negatively towards the presence of this NPC, this optional, easily-avoided, easily-ignored NPC, please avoid her in the game and please consider not posting in this thread unless you can do so with respectful and constructive comments.”

While this is not saying hey don’t post negative commentary on this NPC, it IS saying that negative commentary of this NPC will be under extraordinary scrutiny specifically because Anet obviously favors exclusively positive comments on their inclusive of a transgender NPC.

This is not censorship in a very explicit way but it does have a self-censoring element to it, because anyone saying something that they feel is counter-narrative or contentious will be leery of posting for fear of repercussions (infractions/bans/etc.).

It’s really just a weasel way to deal with thoughts and opinions you oppose.

This is assuming of course that they do not literally mean: “unless you can do so with respectful and constructive comments.” because let’s face it, 99/100 times this kind of wording arises it’s just a ruse to make someone seem like they are not shutting someone’s comments out.

While this seems hyperbolic, nerfing SE is disastrous for thieves. The current state of pvp is seeing a lot of condi bombing. Thieves have to go to extraordinary lengths to properly deal with periodic diverse condi bombs. Nerfing one of the staple condi removal options for thieves just disadvantages us.

Thief is playing almost exclusively as a ganking class at the moment. Skirmishing is more risky than ever, and though we bring more damage to the table we do not bring so much that we can necessarily and reliably make up for our glassiness.

We got changes that favor risk -> reward, but now it feels like we are risking much more for very little additional reward.

You actually have way more damage that got rolled in and from traits you can pick now, and because your not locked into picking initiative traits you get to pick up a TON of utility from other traits.

The only thing p/p lost was a tiny bit of range, and ricochet.

I think the loss of ricochet is a huge deal, and a deal breaker for the weapon set. p/p is a very risky weapon set to run, and as far as single target damage goes it was outshone by the dagger loadouts- with ricochet there was a very easily justified use of p/p as a kind of riot gear set.

The loss of ricochet pushes p/p behind many other sets- too much risk for too little reward is most cases.

However, we did get some buffs at the same time (like that one trait that gives a chance to immobilize a target from an attack when they are under 50% health). We also got the double steal, which was a good edition (if you chose to use it).

So i often see stated that there are two pve zones confirmed with 3 layers a pop. the different biomes are stated to be “zone” sized in their own right, but i assume they have some dead space so let’s say that we have announced 5 zones of content right now.

I am holding out for pre-purchase until the remaining elite specs are announced, the remaining zones previewed, and the challenging group content detailed. I think it is practical to do the same. Though if the current specializations and guild halls are any indication, i think pre-purchasing will not lead to disappointment.

I feel this should not have to be said, but it needs to be broadcast loud and clear.

This is more RNG, yes you can cash in on it but you can also lose big like myself and many others have. Of my immediate play group only one of us made a profit- though this is a small sample size.

You will see people saying they are making 100s and 1000s of gold from this vendor but that is extremely rare and you will LIKELY lose money on this vendor. It is a money sink that functions as a ecto slot machine.

Gamble if you want, but this is not your way to pay for your precursor.

Make steal use initiatives?

we all know steal is instant cast, and traited has lots of terrifying effects.
TLDR steal is OP.
Even thief mains feel that steal is OP as it is.
when they can choose 3 trait lines when the patch hits, thieves will eat everyone for dinner.

so,

giving it a cast time will break a lot of thieves’ gameplay.

Why not make steal use up initiatives? like maybe 4 per cast?

That will help balance out an OP skill.

Thoughts?

While we are at it lets double the cooldowns of meditations and virtues- same principle right?

I won’t make a convincing argument for the imbalance of power necro. I don’t think it as broken as most people do, though i do think the damage its lich form 1 and death shroud 1 are able to do at 1200 range is high- how imbalanced it is is up for debate, since there are specific and clear counters for both of those things, and we can argue until we are blue in the face about different team comps and roles in that.

I do want to comment on the second bit though. Just because one class doesn’t change does not mean that others do not- and those changes can cause imbalances for classes that do not receive changes.

Lich at 1200 range may as well be shooting balloons with how easy it is to sidestep the projectile. And life blast does significantly less damage beyond 600 range. You should learn more about the class before you complain about it. Both of these things are only effective at mid to close range.

The first point doesn’t have anything with my point on necro balance, and i retain my position in regard to your second- different strokes for different folks then. Don’t assume because i have an issue with something that it is from a lack of understanding.

I am not going to die on a hill talking about necro imbalance or otherwise. To me, the risk vs the reward is lopsided- how is this fixed? By the countless ways to counter their abilities.

Like i said i think it is a problem with risk vs reward- you can feel differently because necros you encounter have their own host of problems. Some people feel differently.

Edit: Consider this dismissal as i don’t believe you intend to argue is good faith, just as most people who concern themselves with trying to bait out talking points don’t.

Yday I had 1v1 downed state as ele vs necro. Necro got down first, before I went down he ate ligtnining strike, sigil flame strike, few auto attacks and arcane shield explosion… I still lost that 1v1

Some classes have more advantages in down-state, that’s class design. I think downstate specialty fits Necro quite well. People shouldn’t think they win the fight when put people to down state. In a team fight, down state means nothing because there’re plenty of ways for people to rev the teammates, and it’s totally intended.

Also class balance shouldn’t be considered v.s. each downstate. For example, if both you and warrior go down, you’d lost the fight because he’ll eventually stand up for awhile. When you down together with a ranger, ranger will eventually win because of pet rev. However, for thieves, mesmers, and ele, even though you can’t save yourself and win the down-state fight, your skills allow you to stall time until your teammates are able to help you. That’s entirely how balance works. And for engi… Yeah their down skills kinda suck, but at least they’re strong when they’re not down lol…

Everyone knows that downstate skills are not balanced at all and they should be. Rangers interrupting you several times and before you can actually atempt to stomp, they will be getting ressed. Necro who can one shot thief, zerker ele etc. from a downstate. ‘’Totally Intended’’ Yeah, right.

i never understand this.

If a superior player playing a balanced, more technical build plays an inferior player that is using a low-skill, low-risk, high reward build then the win is not guaranteed for the player of superior skill.

All of these people who chant “well if necro 1 spam or ranger lb spam is so easy then you should be able to beat them no problem right??? or do you just suck, huehuehue” can’t seem to understand that the problem is that players who make bad choices, who are not good at their class, who use these unbalanced skills are able to kill people they otherwise wouldn’t stand a chance against.

Poorly balanced builds do well because they are poorly balanced, not because everyone somehow magically sucks against them. Furthermore in a game mode where team fights eclipse dueling scenarios, you cannot possibly anticipate or counter everything that comes from range or that out of your field of vision. Necros and rangers benefit greatly from having high burst range damage- something that if it is spammable is very hard to counter consistently if fights are even or lopsided.

This is why people complain about them.

Back to playing a kitten optimized meta instead of trying to break out in non-meta more satisfying builds.

Prove necro is imbalanced. I’ll wait.

I run my own small guild. People are getting bored, plain and simple, even with lots of guild activities.

We have a house model in game already in the form of personal/home instances. Allow us to recruit services and npcs in collection quests. Allow us to hang trophies that give boosts. Let us hold events for friends/guildies in the personal/home instances. Make the personal/home instances connected to guild halls and we are golden.

2/12/2015 WvW report on Unbalanced Match-ups

In addition to population caps looks into sentiments about off-hours coverage.

The reasons matches are unbalanced are because of servers stacking time-zones, but even without a time zone being stacked simply having strong off hours coverage than your opponent will completely lopside match ups (i refer you to the history of DB, SoS, KN, JQ, and TC).

The issue really isn’t with player population so much as it is the PPT system.

Beyond that, yes- a WvW “reward track” would be awesome. We have masteries which are nice, but having gear sets or titles we could actually work towards would be amazing. Even having WvW collections that have items that take badges that then have to be bought from particular WvW objectives (certain towers or keeps) would be an acceptable reward system.

A lot of us would just like to work on quality PvE gear less and be able to get our top tier gear from committed WvW. The only reason i leave WvW is because it is unsustainable to pay for food, oils, and other needs from playing WvW unless i play in very specific ways. PvP players need never leave pvp if they do not want to, nor do PvE players- save for a few minor things. Most people will need to leave from WvW to make money needed for alternative gear sets and builds, higher quality gear, decent food, and any number of things.

Gold and quality rewards are just too seldom in WvW

Do you all think that EotM could cut it on a weekly rotation with the vanilla map and HoT map? Why or why not? Could EotM sub for EBG if they balanced the ppt on EotM?

To me WvW is too often instant “Game Over!”. E.g., just before posting this, a thief got 95% of my health with one hit. I had been 3 minutes in WvW. I rather would like to play the game longer.

Classes should be modified so that nobody can do instakills. Longer fights. Longer gameplay.

Alternatively the game should have a difficulty level. Those who like instakills would play with level “hard” and we the rest would play with level “casual”. Perhaps in different WvW maps if the idea causes somebody to rage.

This to me a is a mark of inexperience, i don’t know your situation but if you can find a casual WvW guild on your server they should be able to help you tune your gear and build to address most of the current meta. No one build can do it all, but keen awareness and a wide knowledge of not only your class but that of your opponent makes instakills and dying to “cheese” builds virtually impossible.

I tried to complete this achievement as a full zerk medi guard earlier and only got about 2 waves into the second trial before running out of time.

Is this achievement poorly tuned due to mob health/ capture point time requirements?

or is it supposed to be a group only achievement?

Are there any steps that should be taken to help it along? I lost about 5 mins on the first trial and then another 30 seconds for transitions

WvW Reward Suggestion

The quality of the skins is important. Make the skins themed with emphasis on something traditionally sought after in cosmetic games-DON’T MAKE THEM MISTS/WVW THEMED. By making a compelling cosmetic set with clear cut, non-rng, progression you would spark the interests of collectors, role-players, and other PvErs to join in the WvW matches and join the format.

Actually you’d spark their interest in joining the EOTM ktrain to farm the badges in the fastest way possible with the least amount of PvP resistance. I think the fundamental problem with this idea is that what you’re wanting to sell is a PvP game mode to a mindless loot farming audience.

In fact I’d be willing to bet that the majority of WvW’rs interested in getting their desired skins would take a short break to farm their badges quickly in the EOTM ktrain before getting back to the real action. Why? Because it’s pragmatic.

I’ll admit, i had forgotten about eotm, because it more or less has not been a thing i engage in for a long time, BUT i think maybe my original suggestions would still work out.

The only thing eotm is/was good for is Karma Trains and Fights. If people flood eotm more consistently that means more potential fights, which WvWers of many stripes would be happy to engage in- it would take some breaking of karma training, of course. If anything this is getting back to the argument of award fighting and not awarding objective trading.

anets focus is on pve and living story

unless it brings them cash i doubt we will see any updates to wvw bigger than siege disable traps :S

they have a awesome combat system and wvw but it will all ways be sub-par
because it does not make them money

the money is in the new players.
new players =pve

I agree but a larger array of long term goals to get new players to stick around and to get referrals from those players to people not currently playing is also massively in Anet’s interest from a monetary standpoint. Furthermore, revitalizing WvW for those left and those contemplating returning is good for the game’s overall health. This is just one action that augments their current goals and in doing so allows them to expand further into WvW by itself if they find a growing market of money laden players there.

I think WvW has already built into it a simple solution for allowing meaningful rewards that could possibly bring life into other parts of the game that are already ignored.

Badges of Honor in WvW are a joke. They are the primary currency of the format and in almost all regards they are secondary to gold. Badges of Honor need an overhaul in their value big-time! The introduction of tricks and traps was a start, as were the addition of skins for the skin collection system that we have now, but beyond that the badges are largely useless (save for newer players building entry level alternative gear sets).

Badges could be a lot more impactful if they were used, in large quantity of course, to purchase WvW exclusive skins, or skin components. I feel the second suggestion is actually the stronger of the two. Make a crafting proficiency level required to make the armor/weapon pieces. Have the components needed to craft the gear come from WvW and some baseline materials from PvE (read: leathers, metals, cloth, wood).

The quality of the skins is important. Make the skins themed with emphasis on something traditionally sought after in cosmetic games-DON’T MAKE THEM MISTS/WVW THEMED. By making a compelling cosmetic set with clear cut, non-rng, progression you would spark the interests of collectors, role-players, and other PvErs to join in the WvW matches and join the format. By making the time to acquire long enough you will give those other players sufficient saturation in the gamemode, and perhaps they would fine it compelling and fun for the same reason a lot of us already do. Even if they do not, having an ‘end-game’ gear set to progress to for it’s looks in a gamemode like WvW does nothing but keep people in GW2; it keeps people playing with others, getting more invested in the game, and assuredly buying gems (PRO MONEY MAKING STRATS).

I think this is a preaching to the choir piece, but still something worth restating. We all know this needs to happen but maybe if it keeps getting brought up we will get some push towards it. I mean it is common sense in a way with how seasons work, with massive PvErs swathes coming in to assure their awesome looking weapons.

The careful bit is to make the set visually drawing and compelling. If the aesthetics don’t work out the idea is a flop. And we need as many small ideas working as possible. Fix WvW with a barrage of small ideas that happen in rapid succession. Get a momentum of change and progression back in the format and people will pick it up and run with it. Build small changes up into large changes and kickstart the format again before we all just burn ourselves out like so many already have.

What will getting angry accomplish?

ANet has proven for almost 2 years straight now, that they will do what they want, when they want with this game, for all playstyle modes, regardless of customer experience and customer feedback/suggestions/testing.

It is their game, and they do get to do what they want.

Accept, tolerate or vote with your feet/wallet are the choices left to customers in response.

I would post more, but again, there’s no point.

Ironically, people bought this game because Anet did what they wanted to when they developed it. Somehow, people feel empowered because they play the game, and believe they should be able to dictate what the company that makes the game is doing.

We live in such an entitled society, and the reality is, no one is entitled to jack kitten in life.

Anet has to consider a lot of factors when they alter the game, not just 1 persons views. They do research, they pay attention to what is already popular in the game, they listen to people, etc. Also, whether the WvW team wants to do something or not, they have to get approval from people above them, who might not even play the game. And, in the end, it all goes back to NC Soft, who published and funded the game.

So, yeah, people can get angry, people can cry, but they should just take a business class, and maybe some game development classes, or read some articles on www.gamasutra.com about how the game industry is ran. It is always easy to be an arm chair developer, but the actual process is anything but easy.

Enjoy the game for what it is, and what you bought it for. You didn’t buy GW2 when it came out, to boss around the developers, and to make them bow down to you. No one buys a single player game, or a console / PC shooter, to boss around the company that makes those games.

Get real people. If you don’t like the game, if it is really causing you this much unhappiness, then play something else. It isn’t a job (unless you are a gold farmer), it is entertainment. If I am watching a crappy movie, I just stop it and try a different movie.

People bought GW2 not because Anet were mavericks but because their design decisions were agreeable. People are not leaving out of entitlement but of boredom. Anet has shown that there is nothing to be expected development wise for WvW, no maps, no change to the game mode and its dominant strategy of power recruiting for off-hours, no meaningful changes in the class metas, no changes guild or raid functionality, no meaningful WvW rewards outside of seasons, etc. Anet had a change to make an enjoyable game, but stagnation and apathy on their end towards their WvW base has eroded confidence and sent people away. I rather take those i play with to another game to PvE then to sit and do the same thing everyday in WvW KNOWING nothing will change.

Sir or madame, I don’t have to give a lick of “proof” – that burden is entirely on you. Your first post in this thread was talking about how commanders NOT on your server were doing such and such for such and such reasons.

What I’ve given you is what I’ve seen (having been there in the chat when a representative purporting to be from BG was INITIATING the buying process, which you claim never happened. I was there, and didn’t see you, but BG never did that. Interesting.

I’ve given you a perspective from servers that somehow have to continue to play, tearless, when they are hopelessly outmatched because of population imbalances (as you are right now), often as a result of either BG buying, or the knockoff effect of other servers doing the same thing as they copy what the #1 server did to get to be on the top.

Let me offer you another bit of perspective – IF it turns out that Blackgate implodes after the season as a result of this (and don’t scoff it off – others have), and you choose to continue to play after that, which of the two choices available to you will you pick?

Will you bandwagon to another server that you think will place high the next time there is a season, possibly hoping to capitalize on “I was on Blackgate when it was still great”?

Or will you ride the ruin of it down to the bronze tiers, and learn how to defend your entire map with five people against a zerg of 40+ and roamers taking back the occasional camp you manage to capture?

You may want to consider that if there is enough ill will towards BG, the 2v1ing may not stop with the season. You may just find yourselves being pushed downward week after week after week.

I know that you’re still at the point where you can’t imagine tier three servers being able to even touch you, but even if the 2v1 doesn’t work that week, there’s always the next one. And the next.

The burden of proof isn’t on me if they are admitting it. I can link you earlier posts in pretty much any topic right now – it is flooded with them bragging about it. If you are really going to feign ignorance to that level (god I hope you are feigning) I will link them for you when I wake up.

But no, the burden of proof is on you, telling me things are happening. You tell me you see people initiating the buying process. I challenge you to do simple math. Calculate how much gold it would cost to move a 60 person guild. You are telling me that BG not only afforded moving multiple guilds over, but managed to pay them for their time as well. But you can’t even name the guilds? Surely we bought a lot. You have lots of names to pick from. Right?

What would be the point of naming and shaming again? You BG apologists would simply try to white-wash as you do with everything. And you say your competition is dishonest. HA!

I really do not get the difficulty in being able to name these purchased guilds. You would think it would be common knowledge.

Man it seems all the Tier 1 WvW servers have like 0 Sportsmanship Im glad I transfered our of TC cause all of you JQ,TC,and BG all lie cheat and steal just to win a few extra tickets kinda puts a sad spin on such a great game I hop after this tournament after all the crap you will at least try and stop acting so awful towards each other and learn some sportsmanship.

It’s probably for the best, a lack perspective it probably better welcomed in other communities.

Please all of you PvE players spare me your tears. Almost every update for this game is tailored for the casual PvE base of this game and we, the WvW/PvP-centric players, are consistently ignored/mocked with the laughable changes we get. None of you who are up in arms over ‘being forced into WvW’ are there crying injustice when we WvW-focused players are ‘forced into PvE’ to experience any of the other updates. You only care because you are being put through what we have to put up with 90% of year. Next patch when it is back to happy funtime casual PvE land there won’t be a peep from the PvE crowd about how it is unfair that WvWers have to do PvE to experience the patch, so please do us all a favor and just shut it now.

Funny, this argument keeps coming up and yet, here you are complaining on a thread that brings up suggestions to benefit both sides of the community. Maybe you should sit down and read it, then go champion yourself a thread for your cause instead of saying “But mommy i can’t have a shiny toy without doing my chores, so why should Billy”.

Inequality throughout the game and its design is a problem that shouldn’t be swept aside or brushed under the rug because it doesn’t effect you personally.

No, you are right it is not fine. That said all of this concern expressed from the PvE community is incredibly insincere given the past year of updates so until something changes from their end i see no need to keep arguing from update equality on mine, ;ause kitten all has happened from the WvW community pressing for a better divide from PvE.

If you actually care about each game mdoe getting due updates advocate for it constantly, the only time the MAJORITY of PvE players even consider advocacy for it is when they don’t get an update tailored for them and they called out on their kitteny reactions.

Also, please don’t white knight when you plan to insult the person you are responding to immediatly after- trust me it’ll help you come across better.

It is so deliciously funny to see SoR cry about imbalance when a year ago they were riding ( and have been consistently returning to) the gravy train of guild poaching and over-coveraging their competition into T1. Well i suppose your ride has come to an end. It will be better for the WvW scene in general to have larger pools of comptetive equally manned servers than a series of segmented tiers. T1 has been destructive for the WvW experience in this game and the more fluid the match ups and the more even the fights the better off we all will be.

my guild doesnt. with the ridiculous amount of cleanse in general (and especially on heavies) it’s just not viable

So they’re running power then? I highly doubt that…

Of course they run power. why not?

Never seen a power necro in a zerg, but if you say it’s so, it must be so.

Power necros are definitely a thing, at leats in our guilds and in the rosters of most fo our competitors.

Conditions in general are already way overpowered and ridiculous.

I don’t understand why ppl keep repeating this nonsense.

the player base spent a year kittening about thieves and warriors being OP, suddenly condition builds start to catch up just a little and the easymode gankers are up in arms.

perma stealth was overpowered and ridiculous
stun-lock was overpowered and ridiculous

conditions in general? not remotely overpowered and accessible by way more classes than previous problem mechanics.

Condition spam is unbalanced compared to a number of builds and classes that cannot reasonably fight them.

More Counter Stealth Play

So what you want to say is that they should make it so you’re a free kill after failing a burst? Please say the same to mesmers and warriors then.

warrior and mesmer are about sustained…..except shatter mesmers..
And yes its how burst profession are supposed to work in ANY game.

You bring your opponent in a weak state then you have to finish him before it recovers or can fight back or just die.

Otherwyse you are covering 2 roles rather than only the burst one.

D/D eles have very good amounts of burst too with plenty of healing, and in no way are they are free kill if they miss that burning speed/fire grab.

you don t play ele….we d lose time discussing a profession you don t know…
FYI its called BUNKER D/D……

Lets speak of the real BURST that is S/F or S/D fresh air…if you miss the burst you are a free kill, and that is the most viable ele nowaday.

Mesmers can easily get away with failing a burst or two.

Mesmer shatter is a burst build, mesmer PU is not….its a duelist role with no burst.
Equip and build is totally different.

Actually almost all the professions can get as much burst as thieves while still having some mechanics they can rely on for survivability.

unfortunately you can t provide any example…mostly because there is none…
There is some sort of burst necro…with similar issues of ele and they don t even have stealth to get free burst attempts.

Taking away stealth is taking away the d/d and d/p thief’s offensive and defensive capabilities.

ther should be some middle ground…
stealth can t be a defensive and offensive tool and be coupled with mobility.

Look at what they did to ele RTL…….would be like giving 30 seconds of revealed debuff to thieves…..
That would start to make sense….keep your stealth and use as offensive OR defensive tool..

You don’t have a lot stealth and constant evades. It’s two different builds you’re talking about, you don’t get to have them both.

evades is th OTHER mechanic to build with…a luxury few professions have….

Personally I see thieves die all the time.

Even thief section is full of thieves saying only baddies die in WWW……unless you meet a Whole BIG zerg and you are surprised….not case that thieves first job is scouting….

They can disengage easily, but most classes can if they want to.

currently only 2 are really strong at this:
Warrior due to insane mobility
Thief with mobility AND stealth having it even easier.

There’s quite a few classes/builds that are very hard for a thief to take down 1v1,

read above….you may have issues Killing a profession….but if you are good with your profession you won t EVER die in any duel

As i said even anet admitted it…..

We just need thief to pay for their mistakes…..if you can t lose, then any chance of Killing an opponent is OP.

Taking away stealth is not the solution. We have not purposefully tied our defensive and offensive capabilities to it, Anet has. Without compensation in other areas stealth should not be touched.
