I guess they nerfed it but never revealed to the ppl because we would complain a lot.
(plus half of our skills are not what tooltips says)
Not sure if Jon Peters still works at ArenaNet, but I seem to recall him making up all kinds of stuff back in the day when people found out that Ranger Short Bow auto received a stealth-nerf.
Even when people showed hard evidence he was dancing around the issue and eventually tried to claim it was an animation issue that needed the extra frames or some other silly excuse. But in reality it was just a nerf and he refused to admit it. I even remember that he claimed to have made pets hit more reliably now. And immediately afterwards their damage abilities were all nerfed by 10-50% (but they did not hit more reliably at all).
If it’s the case here as well I can’t say, but Rangers always seem to be getting the short end of the stick while Warriors usually got all the good things (and ANet balance devs loved their Warriors). Then Guardians got the brunt of the assault; starting with making Spirit Weapons mortal (and even more useless as they originally were due to their traits being lacklustre and all over the place) as well as other kneejerk nerfs while Warriors only got minimal downtuning (like the Signet Heal ‘7% nerf’ which still made the health gain on a fully zerker Warrior more powerful than a full healing specced Guardian). And I find this odd as I always saw the Guardian as the most balanced class.
So while I praise ANet for giving me so much enjoyment out of Guild Wars 1 and 2, I just cannot agree with some of the decisions as some members of their ‘balance team’ clearly seemed to be playing favorites.

Sometimes the Mad King takes him away. I saw him walking around Lion’s Arch at times and stopped to chat with Drooburt. Something about eating some people and then they both vanish for a time.
He’ll be back though asking for more Candy Corn.
How very peculiar as I haven’t seen any such mail for some time now.
I used to joke about it with my guildmates and allied guilds that when you type ‘gold’ in chat, you’d get a mail or several whispers from goldsellers within 24 hours. Maybe you typed ‘gold’ in /y and that happened to you? :P
If so, it seems to be more of a burst-mail which is more of an isolated incident and you should be fine. Until you type ‘gold’ again haha.
EDIT: Ah, I see you added a picture. I got a similar one several months ago as I recall (and nothing to do with my ‘gold joke’ unfortunately). But as you can see ArenaNet has already done what it can to assist you. The bottom portion indicates the mail did not originate from ArenaNet and serves as a means of protection ArenaNet has coded in a while back.
Also you can be sure that they indeed are terminating such accounts. That is why it happens very infrequently as those scammers need to obtain another key in order to set up a new account. Just report the mail by clicking on the ‘!’ in the bottom left corner and delete it afterwards. Then ArenaNet can look into the matter and take action.

Some of you guys really like to complain for the sake of complaining, don’t you?
I have a Commander Tag but mainly use it during guild missions and sometimes for WvW. Personally I find the Mentor tag to be a nice PvE alternative and gives everyone the means to ‘tag up’ to help out. Especially since not everyone has 300 gold lying around.
But some of these responses make it appear as if they intend to turn the Mentor Tag into the next Ranger hate campaign. Rangers are still recovering from all the abuse, insults and kick requests and now some of you want to extend that blind hate towards people using a Mentor Tag as well? Please think for a moment.
Mentor Tag or Commander Tag, all they do is to provide a visual marker on the map for the people that need it. And I couldn’t care less if I see someone sporting a Mentor Tag instead of a Commander Tag on the North Gate of Tarir during the assault because it tells me that there is at least someone there to coordinate with.
This song is so beautiful it makes me want to constantly run up to the throneroom and simply glide over the city all day!
100% map completion Verdant Brink: no map completion reward or achievement
100% map completion Auric Basin: no map completion reward or achievement
(my character had 100% World Completion before HoT came out)
Completed both Verdant Brink and Auric Basin at 100% map completion but didn’t get any reward either. My character (Mesmer) also had 100% Tyria map completion before HoT came out.
So a guildie of mine told me that both the tiger and the lightning wyvern are behind that 2hr event. If so that is some serious BS in my opinion. We should be able to get all the new pets by taming them out in the wild; not locked to a brief time period behind some stupid meta-events.
Does some ANet dev take pleasure in harassing rangers every chance they get or something? Heck, just now our Rune of the Trapper was also nerfed by 33%. And the reason for the nerf? Ghost Thief.
A thought just hit me while trying to get that particular point (and failing quite a few times). Perhaps ANet intended for you to have Mastery 3 in Gliding (the no endurance cost). Because I can imagine that you could just jump out the Luminous Throne and glide straight to the ledge with the torch instead of having to go from platform to platform and then use the logout-login trick.
Made a screenshot to show which ledge I mean.
But this wouldn’t work with just basic gliding as I can never retain the altitude when having to glide from platform to platform and for a straight line you’d be out of endurance before you reach it.
Hope this helps!
Aren’t Mentor Tags for PVE only?
The Southgate: You’ll Only Be Able To Reach … is very awkward. I actually found a Reddit entry on that one with a method that can’t be considered the proper way. :P
When I was up there and looked around I couldn’t find any other way to reach it though…
On Reddit:
Don’t need any gliding masteries except the first one for this.
Start at Luminous Throne, glide southwards around the bend to a small ledge. Wait for gliding endurance to come back.
Glide south to the next tower. Wait a few seconds again.
Glide south to the next tower, notice the green ledge on the right (west), on top of that is the box.. Wait a few seconds again.
Glide to the next tower. Put your character as far west as possible on your current tower.
Log out, log back in… and you’re where you want to be.

Thank you so much Arewn!! With your help I managed to get the first two and can’t wait to kick the octovines out for the other one!
THANKS!
Still hope that someday ANet will allow us to use our gliders in all of Tyria though <3
I’m currently trying to complete the ‘A Study In Gold’ achievement but I am having difficulty in tracking down the last tablets in my list:
*- Southgate: Tucked Away Southwest found thanks to someone in the map
*- Northgate: Where We Lay Our Masks To Rest (in the adventure area)
- Westgate: The Way Has Decayed Unless You Fly
- Luminate’s Throne: The Jungle Grows Even Up Here
- Trial Rooms: Heavy Foliage Hides This One
Anyone know how to find these?
Thanks!!

Those pocket raptors were a cool nod to Jurassic Park’s Compys. :P
Wouldn’t mind having a swarm as my pets.
Well, at least they allowed me to use my White Wings backpack as a glider
Stay off the Koolaid, Koolaid, and work on a better title. ANet doesn’t need to FIX THIS!
:P
(I have 11 lvl80 characters)
Don’t worry OP. Maybe Jon Peters will look at the Ranger … after 2 years.
Because Charr were not made for flying or they are afraid of heights :P
Would have been neat as I would love to find the highest point in a map and glide all over the place. A shame this is not possible…

Considering that I’ve been playing this game since launch I would be highly irritated if this new expansion would only be 16 hours worth of content to unlock everything.
Instant gratification is all that matters to some people it seems… You want a big red ‘Click here for everything’ button next to the first waypoint?
Oh, and I have 10 (11 now with the Revenant) level 80 characters, but I’m not complaining.
I’m happy when i meet my goal but you guys only seem to care about how long it took you. “Only 10 hours for doing it. No fun at all!!11!”
My journey starts when i can experiment with the new classes not when i’m done fully unlocking them.
Oh cry me a river…
There should be an entrance in the west wall. I marked it on your picture.

I’m guessing this is what ANet meant with trying to do away with the zerker meta?
I mean I can still stay alive perfectly fine on my full zerker Mesmer, but I have to check my surroundings a bit more and work just a tiny bit harder to stay alive.
So no more standing there auto-attacking while I go get coffee or eat dinner.
Well, I for one am VERY happy to see that they included my White Wings as an option. Now I can have my wings out both on the ground as well as in the air!!
So thank you very much ArenaNet!
Ofcourse I’m also hoping they intend to add more back-items as potential glider skins, but at present time I am very happy flying like an angel!
Depends on your build and playstyle.
Sometimes it can be that little bit extra which can save you in a pinch – especially if you don’t need a different sigil apart from Energy.
Obviously I don’t think it’s worth the current gold cost for wvw – don’t bother until they reintroduce it hopefully this Wintersday.
PvP is free so just mess around and test it for a bit with different sigils – see what works best for your build/playstyle.
They didn’t reintroduce it last Wintersday, so what makes you think they will reintroduce it this Wintersday?
I don’t need an arrow. What I would like however is that the skill makes use of the red out-of-range indicators and that the entry portal has a timer telling me how long I still have before I have to drop my exit portal.
So could “ascended” food give buffs party wide? Could this be a useful thing for raids?
Unlikely.
It’s more probable that 500 cooking will be used for the new precursor/Legendary crafting or other non-consumable purpose.
Higher level food is just basic power creep and we already have feast items.
Creating party food will be hard to pull off because either they use less ingredients than 5x of the original food and impact the ingredient prices or they use the same or more and people don’t bother with them.
Prime examples being the Sharpening Stone Station, Maintenance Oil Station and Tuning Crystal Station that nobody bothers with due to the ridiculous material requirements.
Wanted to buy it, but it’s not listed in the Gem Store. Is this a bug or will it come back at some point?
I’m still waiting for the day that I can tame a dolphin…
lol, when you are so much waiting for dutch stroopwafels, which are nothing else but 2 thin waffles pressed together with caramel syrup in between, then you should eat here in Germany a real hot waffle (belgium/brussel style) with warm cherries, whipped cream and powdered sugar. Alot more delicious than those cold tooth terrors, that are stroopwafels ^^
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waffle
But if you really want to eat something delicious that comes originally from Germany/Austria, I advise you too eat some Apfelstrudel (Apple Strudel) with Bourbon Vanilla Sauce, you will never want to stop eating it anymore, I guarantee you hehe ^^
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_strudelSo much for culinary derail talk here lol.
Can’t wait… still 19 days to Gamescom
‘Cold tooth terrors’? That’s your problem right there as you are doing it all wrong. You need to eat them warm, not cold.
The best stroopwafels ofcourse you should get fresh from a stall when they’re nice and warm. Failing that, a good alternative would be getting Kanjer Stroopwafels from a store and warming them up briefly in a microwave (or just put them on top of a hot cup of coffee/tea for a few minutes).
But eating them cold would be like trying to eat an Apfelstrudel with mayonaise.
Here is mine!
I never understood why multiple classes have a ‘remove condition every 10s’ trait or utility yet Rangers get a ‘kill pet every 10s’ instead.
It’s like ANet wants Rangers to be some kind of sadistic entity who likes to torment animals.
Then again my pets die in under a second anyway when I’m in WvW because ANet never separated direct damage from AoE damage. So they apparently can’t even give pets resistance to AoE (like pet had in WoW) to make up for their stupid AI and pathing issues.
How are they supposed to make PvP 101’s for all classes when all they play is Warriors?
RANGEr
Another of these threads…
Really starting to feel like we need to get the definition of ranger stickied on this forum for new players to read.
No need as the definition is already there, as quoted by ANet:
“Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows.”
Are people suggesting this statement is false?
Well, the OP seemed to be getting attacked for wanting to play a Ranger as a ranged class with people taking potshots at him. So I figured I would shut them up as Anet already stated their definition of Rangers. Pets, traps, bows.
That doesn’t mean the Ranger is currently working as intended or anything though. Because the Ranger is back at the bottom of the barrel with this patch as our pets were kept at rock bottom and we lost about 15-20% dps due to mandatory traits that no longer exist.

Don’t worry guys, JP will fix this one ASAP (read: after 2 years)
But then what am I supposed to use as my Elite slot if everything sucks? At least Supply Drop had a tiny stun so I felt like I could actually help in some way. That elixir is stupid as I can’t count on RNG effects. So that left Supply Drop or Mortar.
And I agree that Mortar Turret was pretty pathetic as an elite and the damage output was beyond useless, but it made me feel special as I had my own little siege weapon. But the arc of the projectiles chewing into my range was the problem and I could never hit beyond 900 range when standing on a wall.
Don’t get me wrong, the Mortar Kit feels like it may have potential; if only ANet wasn’t constantly doing these knee-jerk nerfs.
Guess I’ll just go and troll enemies with grenades because they are bugged and deal twice the damage! :P
You really underestimate the current mortar. It’s not quite as strong as grenades in pure damage, but…
- You get a cheap blind field, and can trait its duration
- You get a cheap water field, and can trait its duration
- You get a cheap poison field, and can trait its duration
- You get a cheap chill field, and can trait its duration
- You get a blast finisher and can trait it into being a double blast finisher
- You don’t instantly melt to retaliation unlike the old grenades would have you do. Especially with many warriors now having spiked armor as a minor.
- You get a projectile finisher on every #1 use.
For defensive purposes, that 2 seconds stun is amazing against a single person, but the supply crate with its huge cooldown is lost on zerg fights. Just throwing down an aoe chill that pulses, throwing a poison field where the zerg is and orbitally lasering into it for an aoe weakness, and having your aoe blind pulse is pretty useful! And should things get scary, throw the water field at your feet, do some autos for regen all over, and-or blast / leap away to heal, gain regen -and- get out of combat faster. It’s a matter of management rather than direct dps. Same way full zerk is not recommended wvw gear even though it would be highest dps.
And don’t use the bugged grenadier trait. That’s just unfair.
Alright, you sold me (out) LOL :P
I’ll give the Mortar Kit a good run and see. Fortunately my current gear can be used as I already had a full set of Strength runes because of my old FT build.
And don’t worry. I would never use a bugged trait as I always fight fair! Even to the point of gimping myself with the old Mortar Turret because it was fun!
I would have preferred the old Mortar Turret. At least then I still had my own little deployable siege weapon in WvW when everyone was hogging the available ACs.
Now it was pretty useless with the range being all screwed up when standing on a tower and not giving the 1500 range so for an Elite it would have been nice to have a 2500 range or something, but it still gave me something to do.
With the new Mortar Kit it seems I’m better off keeping Supply Drop and using a rifle. I’d rather have my stationary Mortar Turret back.
The old Mortar was unusably bad. It rooted you, it did no damage, it had a minimum range, and you’d be lucky if you did as much as a tick of damage on a zerg. 2500 range is asking for way too much, just because it’s in an “Elite” slot. That’s like requesting that the guardian invuln elite should be bumped up to 10 seconds of nothing affecting you because it’s in an elite slot!
And no, you’re not better off keeping supply drop. ESPECIALLY in wvw. Your 1000 range rifle won’t help you much there alone, and 900 range greandes are high risk / high reward.
Once Explosives Powder actually works, there will be some damage potential to the kit. But currently, oh boy. Another 5% base buff could not hurt.
But then what am I supposed to use as my Elite slot if everything sucks? At least Supply Drop had a tiny stun so I felt like I could actually help in some way. That elixir is stupid as I can’t count on RNG effects. So that left Supply Drop or Mortar.

Why not bring back both? I was rather fond of my personal siege item that I could put somewhere and have fun with (or put it down for someone else to have fun with).
ANet could basically add the old stationary Mortar Turret back as an elite or utility while also keeping the Mortar Kit for those that prefer the mobile version.
Don’t forget Time Warp.
It’s a Quickness+Slow glamour but is not allowed to benefit from the CD reduction trait because ‘it would be unbalanced’ according to the devs.
Meanwhile Guardians have an elite Quickness+Ferocity shout with a mere 30s CD; that DOES benefit from their CD reduction trait.
You should just give it a rest. It isn’t going to happen, no matter what you think. Maybe in another 3 years with the next DLC, but for the foreseeable future, it ain’t going to happen.
But if I were to give it a rest, I am certain that it will never happen.
So I’ll just keep reminding ANet that I’d like to get a third mainhand option for my Mesmer (preferably pistol) instead of getting even more offhand weapons.
Have to agree that this is pretty insane.
We are not allowed to benefit from the 20% cooldown reduction trait even though TW is a glamour skill because it would be ‘unbalanced’; yet Guardians get an elite shout giving 5 allies in a 600range 5s of Quickness and 10s of Ferocity every 24s? And that one will get the 20% cooldown reduction if you choose the trait.
I say Mesmers should also benefit from the 20% cooldown reduction. And then TW is still on a 144s cooldown. That’s still a cooldown of almost 2.5 minutes!!
TW could (should?) be on a 90s cooldown and it still wouldn’t come close to what Guardians have!
Bump! Almost 3 years and I still can’t put my pistol into my main hand. :’(
I’ve seen these guys swimming around since launch, but we have never been given a juvenile version to tame. Instead we get jellyfish, a shark and some very ugly thing from the bowels of the abyss.
We even have dolphin spirits, so I would really appreciate it if we could get a dolphin (and other creatures that already exist ingame but can’t be tamed for some strange reason).
Heh. You’re roughly 5 months too late for this one. That ship has sailed.
Yeah, I fear no amount of timewarp will get me to fire my gun from my main hand.
Looking back through my posts, my last attempt to get the devs to consider adding the pistol as a mainhand option was over a year ago… Guess I was on the wrong boat. :P
Mainhand Pistol for Mesmer!
I’ve been playing a Mesmer for quite some time now (and still love it, despite certain changes in the past), but it still feels as if the Mesmer is still severely lacking in the choice for mainhand department, as if it simply wasn’t a fully finished class at launch in terms of weapon choices.
Only a Sword or Scepter remain as options for mainhand, which feels rather minimal; especially considering all the other classes and the sheer number of offhand choices the Mesmer has. Only the Engineer seems to have even less choices, but can make up for it with all their kits. Yet the only weapon that seems to be on the horizon for the Mesmer is yet another offhand.
Also, there are 2 individual illusionary pistols in the game; Lyss and Ilya. To this day this still leads me to believe that it may have been the original intention to include a pistol as an option for a mainhand as we already have it as an offhand option and a Master trait (Duelist’s Discipline) that affects pistols (plural).
Lastly, there is the pretty odd positioning of the Offhand Pistol skills when viewed from the weapon selection screen in our Hero panel and it all feels like theres a piece missing; as if it was originally intended for Mesmers to have pistol as a Mainhand option but not implemented at launch.
As such, I sincerely hope that ArenaNet would want to consider adding the pistol as a mainhand weapon for the Mesmer. Personally I would love to have more options available to me as the current choices simply do not seem to mesh well with one another.
So I would really love the choice of one more mainhand weapon that focuses on being a true Power based weapon. And to me the pistol could be that choice as a 900 range (1200 when traited with Duelist’s Discipline or equivalent with the upcoming new trait setup) weapon. This would allow ArenaNet to modify our scepter to take up to its own true calling; an actual condition based weapon.
For over than a year now the balance team are apparently still trying to figure out what to do with the Scepter’s identity crisis and its very awkward auto-chain. Having a Mainhand Pistol would allow them to turn the Scepter into a true condition weapon while allowing the Pistol to become a viable choice for power based attacks.
For me having the mainhand choices of Sword, Scepter and Pistol would complete our puzzle and give us a full set of weapons where each has its own identity and function.
—-
If the devs were listening they would have given Mesmers another mainhand weapon like a mainhand pistol. But instead they give us another offhand weapon; bringing the total to 2 MH and 5 OH.
So no, they are not listening in my opinion.
Would have preferred another mainhand though; like a pistol. Every other class seems to be getting another 2hnd weapon yet Mesmer only an offhand when we already had a ton of them to begin with.
Mainhand Pistol for Mesmer please! :’(
