As someone who was here from the very beginning I feel a cheated.
A FTP player can join the game for zero dollar investment, but has to purchase HoT to receive that content. Okay, no argument there until we look at how unfair this is to veterans.
Original GW2 was what $60 for standard? HoT is $49 for standard. So basically A FTP player can get everything for $49, yet veterans have to pay a total of roughly $110?
Seems to me veterans should be getting HoT for free. Correct my logic any way you see fit. I’d like to be enlightened.

Really? Because which MMORPG has changed its business model to free to play because its previous business model was a big success?
The Old Republic? Even its parent company admitted it was a failure.
ESO? They are still suffering layofs.
Wildstar? LOOOOOOOOOOOL!
But hey, you can continue to ignore everything related to facts and evidence and assume that everything is fine. It will make it much funnier when reality comes crashing down around you.
Are you seriously claiming GW2 is a failure and that going f2p is your evidence? Really? I mean, I understand the desire for more armor, but gw2 is a failure?
I’ll gladly pay for armors in the gem store, as long asthey are mix’n match…
^ this. I was quite disappointed when they said they wouldn’t sell anymore armor skins through the GStore anymore.
as if 5 millions sold copies in 3 years was a great number for MMO game.
It’s not WoW.

Ranger will be next week and engineer the week after.
Seriously though, none of us outside of Anet knows.
Since you consider them to be incredibly similar gameplay wise, I’d say that you’ve never played Guild Wars 1.
Since you consider them to be incredibly different gameplay wise, I’d say that you’ve never played Guild Wars 1. If you’re going to go off about GW1, please please have played it before.
Besides…
Wow, a parrot. If you’re going to copy and paste someone’s argument and treat it as your own, please know what you’re talking about. It’s pretty well established that the gameplay between GW1 and GW2 is very different. Anyone who has played the game for a few hours will have seen this with just the combat system alone.
GW doesn’t have 150+ different armor unless you count the differences between professions. If you do that then you can do the same in GW2 versus the five races so you have 90+ armor from GW2.
…It takes someone with no knowledge about either game to say that Warrior Elite Canthan armor is the same thing as Elementalist Elite Canthan armor, but that human Embroidered armor is oh “so” different from sylvari Embroidered armor.
Congrats. You can copy and paste links without knowing anything about they contain. Let’s go a bit further:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Armor_art
These are the unique armor sets. I count like 33 of them. Must different than your 150+. The number only reaches that high if you multiply it across the multiple professions who have their own unique appearance already stated this in the previous post. based on the armor they’re wearing. Of course, based on your post, you missed that and are pretending that I didn’t.
Also, F2P does not mean the game failed

I’m sorry but going to F2P is not an indication that a game is failing.

I am just wondering if at the next expansion it will be the same, where people who own it has to pay 50$ again and new player will get base Guild wars 2 and HoT + the new expansion for 50$.
and when the next expansion is gonna be, maybe 3 years again, i guess that would be to bad at all, but if it becomes a yearly thing, that is another story.
It will be based on their announcement a few months ago.
That might be a valid argument if Anet put any effort into redesigning the armours for the different races, but the don’t, hell, they can’t even be kitten d to tick whatever box it is that turns of the rendering of Asuran feet so that their toes don’t clip weirdly through their boots. There’s a handful of boots that do it so clearly the capacity is there, they just seem to lack the care or attention to detail to do this. Charr players will go on at length if you let them about tail accommodation.
What does this have to do with anything we’re discussing? My argument is about the differences between designing armor for GW2 vs GW1. It’s not about the perceived quality of GW2 armor.
Gameplay wise they are incredibly similar. But you are right in saying that they are very different: one was a big success, able to fund both constant updates and even a sequel, while the other has been such a failure that it has been forced to go free to play after enduring multiple content droughts and having next to no content added to it.
And one had, in two years, 150+ new armors available in game. The other has had, in three years, 15 armors available in-game. With the massive amount of… 4? Armors incoming.
Since you consider them to be incredibly similar gameplay wise, I’d say that you’ve never played Guild Wars 1. If you’re going to go off about GW1, please please have played it before. Also, F2P does not mean the game failed and we all know that the gap in content is because they’re working on the expansion. Feel free to continue to ignore all of that.
GW doesn’t have 150+ different armor unless you count the differences between professions. If you do that then you can do the same in GW2 versus the five races so you have 90+ armor from GW2. And once again, you’re failing to comprehend what goes into creating armor and how it was much much different in GW1 than GW2.

let’s just wait until they do the next legendary blog/PoI then.
Dont forget gw2 is not like other games .. we always keep getting new stuff !
Sure, sure. In 3 years, we got in game:
- Illustrious armor (the ascended one)
- Glorious armor (the PvP one) and its reskin, Glorious Hero
- Carapace and its reskin, Luminescent
- Hellfire armor
- Radiant armor
Meanwhile, the Gem Store got:
- Aetherblade armor
- Primeval armor
- Braham’s armor
- Phalanx armor
- Flamewrath armor
- Zodiac armor
- Rampart armor
- And 24 (!!!) outfits
So yeah, we definitely keep getting stuff… In the Gem Store. We got even less armors in-game than in the Gem Store, and that’s considering how ArenaNet said they would focus the Gem Store in outfits, not in armors.
They made that statement after they started doing outfits. You can’t make their statement retroactive and then accuse them of lying.
in GW1 we had in one year more new armors in-game then we have gem store armor skins in GW2, in my eyes they have become extremely lazy.
In GW1, you had only humans to play as which is much different than what we have in GW2. More work is required to create GW2 armor than GW1 armor.
Uhuh.
So the excuse “GW2 is more complex” is the reason why, 3 years after release of the original Guild Wars, we had:
- More than 160 new maps (in GW2, 3 years later we have 3 new maps)
- More than 150 new armors completely available in game (in GW2, 3 years later we have 15 new armors in-game)
- 4 new professions (in GW2, 3 years after release we have zero new professions)
- More than 70 new skills for each of the core professions, not counting the generic PvE only skills (in GW2, 3 years after release we have a single new profession specific skill for each profession)
And so on, and so on. Despite how, at the time, ArenaNet had half of the staff they have today.
Considering how by then we had ten times more armors – again, ten times -, maybe the lesson here is that, if GW2 is that complex, ArenaNet tried to bite more than they can chew.
I suggest playing Guild Wars 1. That game is almost completely different than GW2.

This again? You do realize that plans change over time within companies, right.
Ergo…
The full set can be included. It’s something that will be released over time with HoT as a requirement in order to acquire them.
You do realize that plans change over time within companies, right. I also suppose that plans can change again and the full set won’t be released ever, so you saying that people should buy HoT because it will include a full legendary set is at best a mistake, at worst a sign of desperation.
Just because something has a potential to change, regardless of its likelihood, doesn’t mean that you can disregard it. The current plan is to release a few legendary weapons upon release and then the rest through the regular updates. There’s no indication for them to change from this.
I’m also not saying people should buy HoT because it will include the full set. Please read the posts again and not make up what I was saying.
they never said they would release a full set in HOTS lifespan. They only went ahead as far as 3 more, and did they even say when that would happen? Its possible the next 3 could be in another expansion.
They said subsequent updates, not expansion. They also plan to roll out new raids through their regular updates so new legendary weapons will likely be rolled out along with them.
they put a specific date on raids, saying within the first month or so. They did not put a date on legendary weapons, which doesnt suggest to me that one should EXPECT them to come with raids, or any time soon.
Its certainly possible, but nothing they said says you should expect any more than 3 more, and they have no timeline on those 3.
and they wouldnt say what is next expansion or not at this point, i doubt they know what the next expansion is supposed to have in it at this point.
The specific date was because the first few raids will not be available at launch unlike the first few legendary weapons. What part of releasing more over subsequent updates, or as the story progresseses, do you get that they will not release more?

you are reading way too far into what they said, especially since you believe in giving anet as much leeway as possible with what they say.
They said they would release more after hot, they didnt say when they would release it.
they also never said there would be a full set before the next expansion.likewise more guild halls and specializations might end up being in the next expansion. Don’t assume you will get content that anet never said you will get.
They stated that the first handful will be released immediately with the expansion with more to come with subsequent updates. What you’re doing is ignoring everything that they could release because there’s a shred of possibility that they may not release them.

So basically, since I bought the game when it first came out and paid $50, what this all comes down to is they want me to pay a total of $100 (base and expansion) while new players only have to pay $50 for the same thing? Seems a bit unfair to me.

Amazing how people have selective memory when they want to.
Q: In 2013, ArenaNet said that, during that year, we would see the release of new legendary weapons and new kinds of legendary items. Has ArenaNet broken their promises?
A: OMG of course no! That was not a promise, just something ArenaNet said they were going to do! You cannot expect ArenaNet to do what they said they’re going to do!
Q: HoT has very little content. Isn’t just 3 new legendary weapons too little?
A: OMG of course no! ArenaNet promised they will add more legendary weapons soon! They didn’t say when but we know ArenaNet will add those, so you can consider them part of the expansion when you buy HoT!
Uhuh.
This again? You do realize that plans change over time within companies, right. I also suppose that if you don’t keep a promise then I can say that from here on out that whatever you say can’t be relied upon?
And unlike other MMO’s, you’re not being forced to grind there in order to progress.

No, they said purchase once and never have to pay for a subscription. They never said what you stated. Also I have never seen them promise to add more classes to the game.
this is only one of the examples as there were a lot of promises and statements made by Anet that later got changed.
“So right now we’re not really looking at expansions as an option,” lead content designer Mike Zadorojny told me on his visit to London last week.
“It’s something that’s on the table but it’s not something we’re focused on, because what we want to do is – our idea here is that with Living World, we can do what expansions would have done but do it on a more regular basis.”
Refer to the bold. Your concept of a promise is way too broad an encompassing.

anet $50 US
for
2 armour set, 3 legendary, 5 weapon set, 4 map,
+ legendary backpack, armor
1 new class
7 new weapondo you really think it worth $50?? don’t forget core game will be free.
so $50 only for HOT..really? i can buy i brand new game for that.
Includes everything else that you left out too
Based on the video, I’d say it’s closer to 2,000 range rather than 1,200.
We talk about 1250 range RADIUS, not 1250 range.
Ummm… so am I. You do realize than the distance from one location to another can be called a range? So the range from one end of the arena to the other can be referred to as a range.
Radius only refers to circles more or less. Radius is also the range from the center of the circle to the perimeter. The diameter is the full length.
Edit: I’m also wrong with my initial guess as I just went and looked at the OS arena. I’d say the one in the video is closer to 2/3 the size of that one.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
A non profit organization that exists to help a certain kind of people most of the time(prosecuted, poor, homeless, stupif, disabled etc etc) does not produce games to stay afloat, they receive donations big and small from companies, regular people and philantrophes.
I think nobody contests the love the designer had when making it too. Beside the helmet, I think it is fitting for a third birthday. I just contest the idea that people have to scream hoorray! for every present they get.
I don’t know what to say. If you think that a gift from Goodyear or Walmart or the small business who wants you to shop there more often is the same as your parents giving you something then you’re going to have an interesting life.
Well I see no point in myself continuing this as you still refuse to focus on the semantics of the examples rather than the argument itself resulting in this going nowhere. If you truly believe that no company would freely bestow a gesture to its customers without some selfish motive then that’s your prerogative. If you truly believe that it’s acceptable to criticize someone for having an agenda for giving you a gift, or to criticize the gift itself, then that’s on you.
I would describe thatchild to be very honest to their parents. I would describe that parent as bad parents in the first place for not knowing what kind of gift your child would like or not. No I’m not talking bout what the value of the gift should be. But if you child hates pink and you give him/her pink socks, why should he be happy with it. A good parent knows what their kids would like for a gift.
So a kid expressing why they dislike the gift (giving feedback) is a very good thing!I’m not saying that Arenanet should know what each and everyone should like.
I’m also not saying that I’m not happy and warm and fuzzy on the inside that they want to thank us.
I’m merely giving them feedback that giving something that has practical use is more likely to be appreciated by the recievers compared to a skin that is liked based on personal taste. You can like that someone gives you something and still dislike the gift itself!
It’s a free gift. It’s not going to appeal to everyone. The polite thing is to be thankful and not criticize the gift. You come off in a very poor light otherwise.
There is one big difference in the two scenarios. One is a friend or relative giving a gift to someone who is a friend or relative. Any sensible person who gets an unwanted gift in this situation smiles and says thank you, because otherwise you’ll hurt that person’s feelings.
In the second situation it’s a company giving something to a customer in hopes that the customer will feel good and buy more of the product(s). In this case, the company actually wants the people who don’t like the gift to say so and list why not. This tells them whether or not they reached their target objective (making the customer happy) and what they should change the next time they try it.
tl:dr
Don’t confuse your parents with a large “soulless” corporation. The motives are not the same and neither are how they respond to critisism about a gift. What if it’s a teacher instead. The point isn’t in the semantics of the examples but the fact that it’s a free gift and instead of being polite and respectful by saying thank you or nothing at all, you have people criticizing it saying that it’s garbage or that they should of gotten something better.
A teacher is also not a company trying to please a customer but a person with feelings giving a gift to someone they care about.
Don’t confuse a company with a person. They are not the same. The reasons they give gifts is not the same. How they react to critisism of a gift is not the same. A company wants the criticism so it can refine its gift giving to customers. It’s called feedback and companies want that so much they are willing to pay for it, though of course they’ll take free feedback if they can get it.
Again with the semantics of the examples… So according to you, a company will always have some agenda for any benefit they bestow to their customers other than a simple thank you for their support? In case you did not realize, a company is comprised of people. There are many companies whose sole purpose is to benefit people. Are they soulless too and thus anything they do is not sincere?
Based on the video, I’d say it’s closer to 2,000 range rather than 1,200. The arena that you referred to may be a multi-leveled one. Of course we don’t know for certain until the expansion releases and we can take a look for ourselves. Your scales are wrong as you’re not accounting for distance. The screenshot of the guild arena pole is clearly further away than the one that you took to compare it to.
This also isn’t supposed to replace the PvP maps so you’ll have to rely on those if you prefer a larger area to fight in. They also had mentioned different layouts for that arena and I vaguely remember the mentioning of obstacles which you can use to protect yourselves from those that choose to just camp at max range and mash their skills.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Of course.. I have even taken the time to whisper a few just in case they didn’t realise… but well its just the same outcome as with players that continually lay out verbal abuse to players cos they don’t wanna do as they say or play the way that he/she wants… same players, reported often, to no avail… nothing new.
As I said I guess its something we are going to have to get used to seeing.
I suggest writing down their account names, the time of the LFG post, and what it said. Then email it to Anet. They do not have the time to monitor each and every post on there so they rely on us to report those that go against the rules. If you see the same exact people on there then it’s likely because nobody is reporting them or they just shrugged off whatever punishment they received. It may also appear that it’s the same people but it could not be.
I would describe thatchild to be very honest to their parents. I would describe that parent as bad parents in the first place for not knowing what kind of gift your child would like or not. It’s that, and those dyes can be any color. Lumi armor glows so you could do a white/purple and get the same look.
The gloves and shoulders are radiant armor…the stuff you can get in achievement chests. At 3k achievement points and 6k.
How do i get the Luminescent?, i saw that i need to collect some stuff, but where?
The link to that armor set has links that show you how to get each piece. Essentially you complete all Silverwastes story mission achievements as well as complete collections for each.
Can use the following to try and match up the purple dye
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Category:Purple_dyes
My guess. although I haven’t compared them side by side to be precise is that the purple around the hips is Morning Glow dye and the lines on the rest of the skirt is Violite dye. Wine ice may be the purple on the boots.

Look towards the living story rewards to find most of it. The shoulders is from the AP set.
Are you reporting them? Are you keeping track of them as in you have a list?
— Imagine this scenario:
You have a child who receives a gift from his/her parents. That child then says that they do not like it and proceeds to list off numerous reasons why such as it looks like garbage, they want something else instead, and so on. The child’s parents did not have to give their child a gift in the first place.
How would you describe that child?
— Now imagine another scenario:
You have a player who receives a gift from the developers. That player then says that they do not like it and proceeds to list off numerous reasons why such as it looks like garbage, they want something else instead, and so on. The developers did not have to give the player a gift in the first place.
How would you describe that player?
I don’t know why people would still buy them off the tp when you’ll be able to do the mastery instead…. saving a ton of gold. Investing time in that would be preferable over gold grinding… maybe that’s just me.
Unless that time you’re spending doing the collections is more than it would have been to just farm the gold.
Will there be a HoT expansion only version?

C’mon it’s in the FAQ and has been said again and again allready…
50$ is for HoT and Hot only, especialy since GW2 vanilla is now F2P.Why so many people are starting useless thread about HoT now when you can allready find so many thread about it with all the answers… My favorite is the “why can’t I purchase HoT with gems” that one really made me laugh.
Anet may say they are giving the exp as a “bonus” but its most assuredly bundled into the price. Marketing 101 folks. I think if you bought the base game from anet, they do offer a refund but people who bought from third parties are kitten outta luck. (kinda makes sense but it sucks :P)
GW2 going semi f2p isn’t out of the goodness of Anet’s heart, its out of necessity. I hope they take this as a sign to go back to the basics of what GW was all about but we’ll see I suppose.
No. It’s not bundled into the price. If you knew marketing then you would know why they’re doing what they’re doing and how it’s not part of the price.
It seems fairly likely that one of the new legendary weapons will be a staff since now almost every class in the game can use one. 2 elite specs are getting staff, i’d say there is an 70% chance the first new legendary is a staff…
They’re replacing the ones like moot, dreamer, and quip first.
Do you actually have a source for this? I’ve never seen any evidence for this beyond “those ones are silly so it’d be nice if they made new ones” from players.
I think it was in one of the interviews by the vbloggers where Colin said that. Maybe someone who remembers the exact one can post it.
HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

This issue doesn’t matter anymore since the entire core game is free to play.
Not retroactively.
So yes, veterans will have paid for the core game + the expansion, whereas new players will only pay for the expansion. Veterans paid for all the development during those 3 years by buying the core game + buying gems. But somehow, only new players get a preferential treatment.
Please quote my entire post next time. What veterans paid for the core game doesn’t matter. Development was likely paid within the first few months of release.

My first inclination was to tell all the existing players complaining about having to pay the same as new customers that you’re all a bunch of whiners, as some others have done, but on second thought I actually kind of agree that it is unfair. The simple math is that brand new players are getting ALL the content for forty-something bucks, whereas older players who already own the base game and buy the expansion will have ended up paying double that amount to get all the content. It’s not unreasonable to find that a bit unfair. I think at the very least they should offer the expansion to existing players for half the price that will be charged new players. I’m not militant about it and will probably buy the expansion anyway, but it’s not really the non-issue that many people want to make it out to be.
What existing players already paid is irrelevant. This issue doesn’t matter anymore since the entire core game is free to play.
Anet has done character birthdays for the better part of the last decade. They have not done account birthdays.
The primary gifts for years 1 and 3 might be delivered to an individual character, but they are not solely usable by that character. Only year 2 has been soul-bound.
That’s because they are part of systems which are account bound (i.e. wardrobe). Miniatures themselves have also always been account wide (or no restrictions at all) regardless of the wardrobe.
I agree with Fluffy there, actualy. I think that not only should they be account bound, but better yet – they should be mailed to every character, including newly created ones. because its not my individual characters alone that are having a birthday, its my entire account.
so limiting them to specific characters is like only letting me use my birthday gift (lets pretend that gift is a mp3 player for instance – something portable) in specific rooms instead of just being able to take it everywhere.

doesn’t mean we can’t wish for that to change. plus many of the birthday rewards ARE account bound, rather then just character bound.
Account bound because the systems in place for those items are account bound. Keep in mind how many people complained about the 1st year birthdays when receiving duplicate copies of the Queen Jenna mini.

My concern is people will find it an easy (and untraceable) form of griefing. Just fill up a server to do whatever then do not do the major event (like a boss), thereby limiting the number of people who can get to it.
You mean filling up a map like Queensdale so players can’t get to SB?
In the very rare chance that they to eventually adjust the population, it likely would not be for months after the expansion releases to give time for everything to settle as new players pick up the game.
$10 is a ridiculous price for character slots when we can make additional accounts for free.
Yes, it’s much more convenient to have them all on the main account, and there’s the issue of specializations, but this still reduces the actual value of what a slot is worth.
Though, full disclosure, I always thought the price was ridiculous. Now it just seems more so. I can pay $50 to have enough slots for one character of each profession, or I can just make make two free accounts to play them all, which seems a lot smarter. Why should I have to pay so much to add those to my main account?
Anyone else agree or am I just blowing smoke here?
Yes, you can make additional accounts for free. But would you enjoy the restrictions?

The biggest issue I saw with the TP is that the T6 from laurels could be sold. Now that we know they won’t even get daily login rewards, it’s not an issue. Them being able to mine/log/harvest will not impact the economy as much as you’d think.
You have two more beta tests after the one for next weekend. Still plenty of time to test out the remaining two specializations.

On another note, prices for other things have risen while others have fallen since June.
Oh just saw your edit, was gonna ask that.
However, i think legendaries are incredibly stable in price because so much different mats and currencies go in it, so it doesnt matter too much, if one mat spikes by 50%.
I also wonder why you chose june as point of reference.
Edit: somehow i could only see your edit with the dates (top 16th of june and bottom today) when i replied but it doesnt seem to be on the main thread.
June was just the last time I did a data pull to compare. I don’t really follow the economy much anymore which is why there’s a gap.
I do agree that the costs for legendaries appear fairly stable as they don’t appear to have significantly moved since then. The only thing that really rose were the sell order prices. Crafting twilight/sunrise to make Eternity to sell gives you two legendary skins for 60G. Highly likely it’s not worth doing now as I’m sure others saw it and are doing it.
I forced another edit to that post and it the the full date shows up now.
