I agree that the bag slot expansions seem questionable, given that they’re character-bound and most new players will reroll at least several times. Of course, you could also fix that by making them account-wide as they should have been all along…
The bag slots should come as an account bound consumable.
I find them beneficial to new players.
All they really need to do is provide some quick explanation that you need to train your mastery first before you can unlock the mastery with mastery points.
So if I have gliding at, say, 50% I can not use a glider at all?
Think of it a needing your glider to be level 1 in order to use. You can’t use it at level 0.5 now can you?
All they really need to do is provide some quick explanation that you need to train your mastery first before you can unlock the mastery with mastery points.
First thing you need to do is define a day’s worth of playtime.
Well, i had rather hoped anyone answering would include the time ratio. How much times they spent doing this in Silverwastes. Otherwise, I have no clue
It’s likely around 10G/hr at most when factoring in time to gather the crests for the keys, opening the bags, and listing everything on the TP.
First thing you need to do is define a day’s worth of playtime.
I really need to just finish Prophecies and get to HoM. It’s so hard to get motivated for that though, even with the guarantee of 6 points when I do it. I haven’t even finished with the Charr and moved on to Dwarves.
Actually, you could just level your toon to around level 10 or so, make your way to Lion’s Arch (the mission Gates of Kryta leads you to it), and then go to EOTN by taking the quest What Lies Beneath (given by Len Caldoron). You’re upleveled to level 20 for all of the EOTN content, so you won’t be too underpowered or anything.
The really good part about that is you get 2 heroes, Ogden, a monk, and Vekk, an elementalist for very little effort. Both are much better than any henchmen you might be using.
Yup! Plus, if you just go outside of that starting EOTN outpost and talk to Jora, you’ll be able to just run right to the Eye of the North (only needing to fight maybe six mobs on the way) to unlock a mesmer hero. Three useful heroes for minimal effort.
I’m working my way through the Shiverpeaks now. Based on my understanding of the map in GW2, LA should be just on the other side, right?
Pretty much. You’ll still have to go a tiny bit into Kryta but it’s not very far.
Turning it into boon duration has all the problems everyone here has posted about. Coupling the two together makes the stat desirable, so some of us will want to loose a damage stat to take it. And I agree that the zerk meta does work better in an organized group… but this generates hate for longbow ranger and ds necro because the dps is selfish… I’m suggesting an alternative which allows zerk to go full dps, with virtually no support, if you bring a dedicated support… OR bring all zerk pluss support, and have everyone spamming the moves. Also condition based support, like blinds, will ben unnafected by the change. Also im not saying that a ‘support’ build ought to be nothing but…. however, if you want to bring an all support all the time build, the meta shouldnt punish you for it. In fact, they should be saying things like, “oh sweet! We have a support ele, let me swap out my phalanx strength, cause my extra stacks aren’t helping.” Then they can take a trait line focused on survivability, or dps, and not have all the builds hardlined into partial support roles. Then we wont lament ‘selfish’ dps classes like necro.
So are you sure that the increased DPS from that will be equal or greater than the loss of an entire party slot?

One problem with using tomes to advance Masteries is that it would simultaneously advance ALL your characters at the same time. You could use enough tomes to get all your level 80s to max mastery. With the current system you could only advance one char at a time. That’s a lot of bang for your buck, to get all your level 80s to max mastery in a few minutes.
Um, Masteries are account wide, therefore what ever you do on 1 character applies to all characters…no need to level up your Masteries for each character.
I’d read his post again including the part you cut out.

HOT isn’t a full game so why pay full price for a partial game?
You must never buy expansions when they’re released with that reasoning. Ever.

There’s a flaw here, you’re assuming they’ve been working on it since the game’s release. Who knows when they started? It was announced officially this year.
They likely started mid 2013.
Yes it works
40:55-42:00
at 41:34 he specficly say that boosters will work
You may have been looking on the twitch channel but go to 36:20 and you’ll see him mention boosters being worthwhile at the 36:23 mark.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
What you’re referring to was strictly for consumables that award instant experience. Even then, I guess we’d have to wait and see if what would have been experience is added directly to the mastery progression bar or something completely different. My initial assumption when they added the new boosters was so that people would buy them to progress their masteries faster.
It will work. I threw down a guild heroes banner during beta and the XP I got from kills increased.

Tomes do not give XP. Tomes give you a level. XP and level are not the same. You’re confusing the acquisition method of levels as being one and the same when they’re not.
If that was true (it isn’t, but let’s assume for a moment that it is) then it should also give you a mastery lvl. They are after all Tomes of Experience. You read the book, you get “experience”. Makes sense.
It is true. check the tooltip, the wiki, and try it out yourself. If you have 50,000 XP, using a tome progresses your level by one while maintaining the XP you had already progressed towards the next level. If you’re level 50 with 50,000 XP towards 51, using a tome will make you level 51 with 50,000 XP towards 52.
Mastery progression is achieved by gaining experience and not levels. This argument is pointless anyway as they’ve already stated the tomes only grant spirit shards once you reached level 80. I know you want to be able to sit in LA on day 1 and use your stacks of times to have every mastery unlocked within a matter of minutes but that is not going to be the case.
I really need to just finish Prophecies and get to HoM. It’s so hard to get motivated for that though, even with the guarantee of 6 points when I do it. I haven’t even finished with the Charr and moved on to Dwarves.
If you have factions then you can re-roll and be there in a couple hours if you have help. If you do all of the primary/secondary job quests, you’ll be most of the way to level 20 by the time you get to Kaineng. Definitely something to consider if that’s all that’s stopping you.

They maintained the same value because they give a spirit shard to an 80 which is what they would have done before HoT. They are not being given ADDED value by contributing to Masteries.
Also why on earth do you want to burn through HoT’s Masteries in one evening? Its self defeating…
Also “compensation”… What has become of us -.-
They give a lvl, you get lvls by xp, thus they give xp. Masteries up with xp, therefore tomes should provide xp for mastery usage.
Why on earth is your concern what I want to do with my gametime? Nodoby forces you to use them, but that’s not enough is it? Everybody else must also not use them cause otherwise you just can’t enjoy the game.
What has become of us, is we became consumers. We understand (at least some of us) that the game is a product, and that we consume it, and that the people who provide us with the game, make profit out of our consumption. So, they’re not our friends, our buddies, our anything. They’re the sellers, and we the buyers. They don’t do us any favours, and the service they provide is not from the bottoms of their pure white hearts.
Tomes continue to do exactly as they did before. They give 100% of a level. Before 80, that levels you up, after 80 is a skill point. Skill points have become spirit shards and tomes used on a level 80 do grant a shard. As such, their functionality has not changed. There is no need for compensation.
The mastery system is a new system. There is no precedent of tomes working with this system, because this system did not exist. Thus again, tome functionality has not changed in this regard either. So, no need for compensation.
Edit: Fixing my terrible, terrible typing.
The mastery system is a new system that uses the old system of xp. Tomes provide xp, stands to reason that tomes should provide mastery advancement. Otherwise remove them from the game and put something useful in their place.
Tomes do not give XP. Tomes give you a level. XP and level are not the same. You’re confusing the acquisition method of levels as being one and the same when they’re not.

There are people who will trade GW2 gold for a GW1 mini. A friend of mine did this for exotic minis- it’s helpful if you’re new to GW1 and don’t have any ectos.
This applies to basically any hom related achievements in GW1. If you have enough GW2 gold, you can basically buy most of your way to gwamm if you really want.
From what I remember, GWAMM requires 30 maxed out titles out of 43 choices. Only the activity titles could be bought which is like 8. If you want to count the plat needed for the skill hunter titles then that’s another 4 although you get more than enough for them just by VQ’ing and completing missions.
I only bring this up because your statement seemed to devalue the effort people put into getting the title by saying they could have bought most of it.
October 15 is a Thursday. I’d expect a Tuesday release.
Just because tuesday is normally patch day it doesn’t mean Anet needs to release the game then they can release it when they feel its ready.
It has nothing to do with their patch schedule. Most things (e.g. movies, games, music, etc) are released on Tuesdays.

I hope with the next beta, we can have guild chat enabled and possibly the chance to beta test the new guild chat system.
It craft eternity and sell it. You’ll get two skins for about the price of one. (Long term goal)
This would not have the effect that you’re thinking of.
Closest you’ll get to a rune replacing the fall damage trait as you’ve already mentioned.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_Snowfall
Viability isn’t reduced with specializations. You just have to make a choice between fall damage reduction vs increased speed if you were not going to make up for the loss of one with runes.

Hi , i dont play gw 2 a long time ago and i was thinking of playing again to see the expansion but why i have to pay the full price game again? i understand that for a new one that price is good because you get all at once but what happen to the old players? the logic think to do is to give us the option to buy only the expanson for 20 or 30 bucks. Is not fair that you punish the old players for only getting new players for more easy sells.
Read the post at the top of the page from Anet.
i already read that , i was trying to give my opinion how unfair is this for old players. I think is important for a game developer to keep the old players happy and to bring new people but in this case they only focus to get new people. well that is my point of view.
I agree with you. This remind me of membership model: members get discount price while regular customer pay full price. Old Players should be treated like this model while new players like me should pay full price.
My suggestion:
Players who are 2 years+ pay= discount price— $20
Players who are 1 and 1/2 years- 2 years pay= discount price— $30
Players who are 1 and 1/2 year to 1 year pay= discount price— $40
Players who are 1 year and -under pay= Full PriceWhat do you think?
(Old Players= Old Accounts= Pay Discount Price)
(New Players= New Accounts= Pay Full Price)Which companies have ever discounted existing players for expansions not yet released?

Another benefit to have all of GW is the following special event coming up on the 25th:

This will get you a free tormented weapon which is needed for the HoM. Well, it’s technically only needed if going for max points but it’s essentially an easy point to get.
Issues regarding XP that needed to be fixed
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Ayrilana.1396
Map completion chests won’t be an issue as we will not be able to infinitely re-roll instant level 80 characters with city map completion done once the expansion hits.
I’m fairly sure that the exp from dungeons would be 70% of the exp at level 80 max. They could just move the exp that you would get to the daily chest. This would at least timegate it somewhat so they couldn’t repeatedly farm CoF.
Having tougher enemies give more exp wouldn’t be a good idea. People would find events again that they can scale up to produce nearly infinite champs.
Crafting has a high cost and you’re limited by having a level 80 character.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
Yep. And then people will find an event that spawns enemies infinitely and requires a condition to be met in order for the event to succeed (or fail).

The amount of people here who thinks “free” actually means “free” is overwhelming. There’s never such thing as free. Someone is always paying for it somewhere in time.
If a player is so hesitant to purchase an expansion with so much info made available to them, and would prefer to wait until they see reviews first, would you really consider them loyal?
If, in the end, the player actually ends up purchasing the product (and thereby financially supporting the company), then…yes?
Anyone who makes a repeat purchase from a company is showing customer loyalty.
That’s not what I’m saying. What you’re calling loyal is similar to someone who supports a sports team only when it’s performing well.
but that’s the thing, they don’t perform well, they perform overwhelmingly bad.
it’s as if you pay €50,- for a team that loses every single time, i am a loyal player but i know when to stop paying and to start showing concern.Did Anet release as much information about Factions and Nightfall as they have for HoT? I seem to recall much less and yet people here complaining about HoT are praising GW1 releases. The primary complaint from people right now is the lack of information followed by price. The price being fairly similar to what was charged for the GW releases.
Factions and nightfall aren’t expansions. They were stand-alones that could be connected to your existing account. HoT is an expansion, which can only be compared with Eye of the North.
Did I ever say that they were expansions? The only difference between the two is one allows you to level up in while the other doesn’t. Take that out and they’re all the same. Whether they were standalone or not has nothing to do with my argument as well so I don’t see your point in bringing it up.
It’s free to the players who buy the expansion and apply it to a new account. Anet absorbs the cost in hopes of increased sales by new players to offset it.

and then everyone will hord up on tomes and instaunlock every single masteries a few minutes after HoT is released… That is beyond stupid
Anet could just make tomes continue to give you spirit shards at 80 instead of giving you levels. That way, there would be no abuse of tomes to unlock the reward tracks instantly.
Writ of experience still exists.
The system they chose was deliberate so people couldn’t cheese their way through the Mastery system immediately. Having the Mastery Exp dependent on the area it is earned allows them to not worry about people hoarding items to burn through requirements at the launch of each new expansion.
Its a goood system.
They could always disable the functionality of writs at max level. However, there may be people hoarding xp boosts. There is a decision to be made here for sure, but having xp being useless after a certain limit doesn’t seem to be the solution to me. It needs to be useful for something, even if it is not masteries.
I suggest that both if you try to use a writ of experience on a level 80 character today.

They could but it becomes a non-issue once you’ve progressed far enough in the mastery.
Forcing a map to reset would likely cause all events to reset including those that are on cool downs. Not a good idea.
I also had trouble with this, it’s not very intuitive at all.
I think it would be more logical if it worked the other way around
ie spend a mastery point (MP) to unlock a track level then your XP levels it up and you gain that function as soon as it maxes out. Use another MP to unlock the next level or a different track etc.
T
That’s actually how I originally thought it would work.
The AP thing is especially unfair, as the goalposts will keep moving indefinitely.
Meaning that someone who started playing later and/or who plays a lot, but does less stuff that acquires AP (e.g. killing endless drakes, or whatever, lol!), will never be able to catch up.
The goalpost has not changed since AP became a thing amongst some players. It’s always been around 5K AP. Also, it doesn’t even matter whether a player can catch up or not as very few groups actually require an AP threshold to be made.
I thought you got mastery points for each time you leveled after 80? If not, I hope they have mastery points throughout Tyria as not all of my characters will enjoy maguuma wastes as it is already.
You don’t. You’ll start out with a fair amount of Tyria mastery points if you’ve done world completion and finished the personal story. There may be other points awarded retroactively as well.
For Maguuma mastery points, finish the LS Season 2. There may be additional points for finishing all of the story achievements.
Easier to turn them off completely rather than decide what can and cannot be awarded to the non-beta account. Not to mention all of the possible bugs that could come as a result of that.
I found it fun and even more so with being able to control the glide speed. It’ll get better when there more updraft a (they instantly replenish endurance) and passive gliding doesn’t use up endurance. Depending on the locations of updrafts, you could potentially stay in the air indefinitely.
I’m also pretty sure there will be an adventure centered around that as well. Perhaps an obstacle course or something where you’d have to go through checkpoints to progress.
The only downside I can see with gliding is that I’ll likely be accidentally falling to my death when playing in the rest of Tyria as I would have gotten used to being able to glide.

Beta crippled by bugs, lack of info & devs
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

What’s disappointing is that while it’s impossible to progress the south event chain with the two NPC’s, it’s entirely possible to do that with the north event chain. It’s just that you have a bunch of people who don’t listen and mess it up as there’s a certain way you need to do it to not have it bug.
What’s disappointing is that these types problems that have been in the game since the original beta and almost 3 years later and I assume a lot of work put into the expansion(maybe not?) and nothing has changed.
I was hoping to hear about actual improvements to the game and not more of the same old broken events all over the place.
What do these new events have to do with the ones from the original beta? Events bugging, and not being able to be progressed, is a type of bug. Bugs are present in just about any release as you cannot anticipate everything when used by your target audience. Hence the point of these beta tests. It’s also not “broken events all over the place” as it’s only occurring with two very specific events.

Heart of Thrones prices should be adjusted!

I feel as if the Heart of Thrones prices should be adjusted.
The first thing I noticed is the fact that $49.99 regular expansion pack includes the core gw2 game. What if we already have the game…? There should be a new pack added for those who already have the core game.I also feel as if you bought the heroic edition of guildwars2 you should get the expansion for free or a lessened price.
Thanks for reading.
It’s a free bonus when the HoT expansion key is applied to a new account. It is not part of the expansion price whatsoever.
The rankings are based off of Raptr’s customer base who use their service. It’s not really accurate.
The amount of AP that someone has is similar to the amount (time) of experience that someone has in a specific job classification. Companies usually require applicants to have a certain number of years of experience. Does this mean that they’ll get applicants that meet that criteria but still lack the skill set? Yes. You can have someone that’s worked 10 years in a position and have they have no idea how to properly do their job. We’ll all encounter someone like this at least once in our lives. So why do they still require it? One reason is that it’s assumed that over the required years, you’d have likely picked up the skills to perform a large portion of the position that was applied for. Most of the time this is true. No job is the same so there can be things that you do not know how to do.
Going back to AP. The higher your AP count, the more likely you will have a player that understands the basics of the game. It’s not used to gauge someone’s ability against a specific path as the sources of AP are so wide-ranging in this game. There’s a fair wide range in skill level for this game between someone who just started compared to someone who has over 6,000 AP.
Another way to think of it (on a smaller scale) is like if you were to play a console game that you were not familiar with. You play it from beginning to end. Was there a skill level difference between when you first started and when you finished the game? Most likely. Does it mean that if that game had an expansion that you’d be a pro at that content? No. It’d just mean that you’d be more capable at doing that content after having gained the skills while beating the original game compared to when you had just started.
Disclaimer: I am not favoring for or against AP being used to filter out people. I personally could care less about AP being used that way but I understand the pros and cons of its use.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
I just got kicked from a dungeon group before it started for “only” having 6k AP. Please, let nobody be able to view other’s AP. Mandatory! That way, nobody can pressure you into opting-in to show others your AP for verification.
Did the LFG post state an AP requirement?
Tier 4 of the glider mastery is 2,413,000 XP. Based on the pattern I’m seeing, to get to tier 5 would be around 5,000,000 XP and to get the final tier would be around 10,000,000 XP. For comparison, you need 4,860,359 XP total to get to level 80.
The two event chains (itzel and laranthir) are AWESOME and night cycle feels lacking when compared to day cycle.
That’s true. Colin talked about that on Friday’s PoI. This isn’t a fully functional version of night–it’s an early iteration.
Does that mean what you accomplish during the day will actually impact the map during the night? I vaguely remember someone, likely Colin, saying something like that during one of the very early announcements for the expansion. I got the impression that the more successful that you were during the day, the better equipped you would be during the night cycle. The map we’re currently seeing doesn’t feel like that.
